  1. If only that were true. That's not how it works for most kids. Kids don't just "listen" and suddenly decide they are something. Also using the example of a cat to try and disqualify why some kids are queer is just wrong.
  2. Seth is 52, so he graduated college in the 90s when it was still possible to get a job in the business world without necessarily having a business degree. I graduated in 2000 and knew someone who was a Government and Physics double major (weird combo, I know!) who got a job as a financial analyst at JP Morgan. I also knew someone who graduated with a degree in civil engineering but got a job as a management consultant at Accenture (back when it was still called Anderson Consulting).
  3. From Google: A real woman is a living, material female human having measurable mass, volume, and location in the space-time. In contrary, a female who is not a real woman is a fictional character depicted in art, like a picture, movie, or video game.
  4. The most positive thing about the US is that there is the option to change, to progress forward, to adapt and move on. The problem is there seems to be a segment of the population who want to reverse a lot of that change and regress backwards.
  5. And yet they have all more or less come back at some point, with many of their careers also coming back on track for the most part. And of course they all have tons of chances to let us know again and again how they are being canceled on various platforms, all telling us how their voice has been silenced via dozens and dozens of interviews. Saying trans women aren't real women is kind of insulting to trans women. But to each their own. The problem is being allowed to say these things normalizes them which is what leads to actual discrimination and in some cases leads to violence because people see nothing wring in treating the people being marginalized that way. No but the Constitution has been amended as society has evolved and changed. At one point "Democracy" in the US meant women didn't have the right to vote. Same for Black people. Who were also considered 2/3 of a person at some point in "Democracy" as well.
  6. Yeah, no. Words have feelings and consequences. Having a sense of humor is one thing, but nobody is required to put up with other people's BS. People back then didn't have the voice or platform to complain or protest (not just with Rickles but other people who were being offensive in their comedy). The entire country may not have to to agree with what one faction thinks is offensive but they should respect other people who find it offensive. And that is probably why there is so much push-back from the people saying offensive things. They want to keep saying it, but are now feeling a certain way about having that "right" taken away from them. People can say and think what they want to behind closed doors. That is their right. Nobody cares if you* are a jerk in private, just don't be that way in public. And then whine about people exercising their right to free speech when calling them out for it. *You referring to the general public This. The word "woke" was co-opted by the right as a pejorative because they were feeling threatened that couldn't keep getting away with saying their nasty offensive sh*t and use it to fuel culture wars. You can add non-comedians like Rush Limbaugh to that list.
  7. Yeah but those people made the choice to attend the private school, no?
  8. Peter Sinfield, lyricist for King Crimson, Céline Dion, and more, dies aged 80. Versatile poet and music producer co-founded King Crimson, produced Roxy Music’s debut album, and had a long partnership with Greg Lake.
  9. When a lot of the men who say these things are now being told by gay men "Your body, my choice", suddenly it's a bad thing to say. (And yes, gay men are saying that to prove a point, nothing more).
  10. That really got Heather riled up. Another moment I liked was when Jenn was saying to Emily that she didn't owe telling her a damn thing when it came to Ryan. Which is true. Unless Shane and Emily have money invested in some venture with Ryan, whatever Ryan did isn't something Jenn owes her as an explanation.
  11. Ok I just saw a post on Instagram that said "Donald Trump appoints Tiger King as Secretary of Agriculture" and we're at the point where I believed it for a split second.
  12. The left aren't the ones pushing the war on Christmas.
  13. Who has ever gotten canceled? Just curious, since pretty everyone who wasn't arrested for something eventually bounces back career wise. I wonder if those consciously choosing to stay ignorant is just another form of evil? So that's a justification to keep saying offensive things? I'm still not sure why respecting what other people find offensive (even if the person saying it doesn't find it offensive) is so triggering to people.
  14. So she is a less fun, more uptight Patsy Stone?
  15. Actually, freedom of speech is protection to say things without facing repercussions or persecution from the government. If other people or society wants to call out people for what they say, that is THEIR right to free speech as well. And it's easy to say words don't affect you when those words aren't being addressed at you. You can have opinions but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to hear them if all they is offend people. Also, it's getting hared to ignore the BS when some of it is coming out of the mouths of our supposed allies. To me, there is a different between someone being ignorant and someone being offensive. Ignorance is some who just doesn't know but says and does certain things. Being offensive is someone who knows better but still continues to insist they say and do certain things. I tend to be more forgiving to the former than the latter. Oh, you have made your point very clear. So...blue MAGA then? Opinions are one thing, saying offensive things is another.
  16. Um, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make regarding me stating men having privileges? I was pointing out how I didn't mention it in a previous post when I should have. Also for someone who is complaining about being pre-judged, isn't that what you are doing to me here? And not hitting the mark at all as well... Sorry but some of that still does come across as making excuses for feeling a certain way about certain issues. Going back to the example about being pulled over, you didn't start out with that. You only added that in once it was pointed out that your husband most likely wasn't being pulled over for being white or old, but because as per you, he was driving at night in an area that seems to close up early. It isn't about being left of center, it's about listening to why people might be offended about certain topics, words, and issues, and learning from that. The only agenda should be respecting other people when they point out that something which others may not find offensive just might be offensive to that person. Instead of just ignoring that. Again, it still sounds like people want to play the victim when they are called out for not just being allowed to say certain things, but also that they have the right to offend others? No, being are being cancelled for saying offensive things. People are people cancelled for ignoring people's requests to not keep saying offensive things. That is what real disrespect is. Saying offensive things isn't a right to disagree with someone. Express your opinion all you want, but if people say offensive things, then other people are allowed to express their opinion as well by pointing out what you said is offensive. And this is starting to sound MAGA-esque in "why can't I say what I want to say and not face repercussions for it?" That...also sounds like something I hear from MAGA fans. People really to stop equating calling people out for saying offensive thing with fascism. But I guess we are in the real Trump era when the feelings of people saying offensive things matters more than the feelings of those being offended.
  17. Ok. I still like Katie overall and want to see her back next season.
  18. We are all free to believe who we want.
  19. Katie isn't perfect, but I tend to like her more than I don't. I wouldn't mind seeing her come back next year. And for now, I do tend to side with her on the motorist issue.
  20. So what is the solution? For people to say whatever they want so their feelings aren't hurt?
  21. Guess we will have to disagree on that. But the fact that they were happening says something. Great. I'm glad today gay people feel more comfortable in places like NYC, even if it wasn't always true back in the day (and a lot of work still needs to be done in other places). This isn't a question of being liberal or moving to the right. This is a question of being offended when people point out something to you and rather than maybe take it and learn from it, it's doubling down and acting like people are persecuting you for not being liberal enough. Being more tolerant is a learning process and isn't something that ends at a certain point. There are mistakes I have made but I learn from it when I can. Earlier when I posted about what privilege is, I didn't bother to mention that there are privileges men have that women do not, which a few other people on here rightly pointed out to me. I didn't get defensive or offended, I listened to what they said, and I hope to do better in the future. People get angry not because people aren't respecting them, they're become angry because you are even after explained why certain terms and phrases may be offensive, people still refuse to listen to them and/or keep using offensive terms. And the left is going to change or "move left" somewhat because there are more and more issues that people are becoming more vocal about because they are willing more and more to have their opinions heard. Transgender people have always existed but they never had a voice or didn't want to speak out for various reasons. It wasn't considered an issue for the left before but it has become one now. And as more marginalized people begin to find their voices, there are issues that will also probably become issues in the future. The right doesn't have to change in people's eyes because why would they? Intolerance means many aren't going to want to learn or understand why certain things are offensive. For many, not learning about these issues is almost a badge of honor. Fighting only for certain people and not all people isn't really as tolerant or inclusive as people like to think it is. The Democratic party can push for social issues as much can for economic issues, it doesn't just have to push for one. Yes, they are.
  22. Democrat to file motion specifically mentioning Trump can only serve two terms. Dan Goldman’s initiative will reiterate two-term clause from amendment approved by US Congress in 1947.
  23. Japan definitely owes China, the Koreas, and others quite a few things. At the very least, I hope the surviving "comfort women" that are still alive in all the countries that experienced that horror receive whatever they can during their lifetimes.
  24. Because many of those countries are still feeling the effect of colonialism, to this day. Nobody is really feeling the effects of the Roman empire.
