  1. Didn't really now much about Lin-Manuel Miranda, nor had I seen him in anything, but dammmn, he crushed it tonight! Even the meh sketches (like the substitute teacher one), he gave it his all and really sold his characters. The monologue was amazing, I though. Even though I haven't seen Hamilton, I knew it had that feel, and it was so incredible. That intense rapping...so good. I seem to be in the minority who actually liked the camping sketch...primarily because for the first time this season, Vanessa Bayer was in a sketch. And I thought she was hilarious in this. Even Mooney was good! And I loved Cecily's incredulous reaction to the crazy siblings, and her husband liking them. This sketch made me laugh a lot. Weekend Update CRUSHED it tonight. All of the Trump jokes were so on point. The Penn State locker room joke probably made me wake up my poor neighbors because I was laughing so hard. Like others have said, the guest spots were probably the weakest...and I say this as someone who loves resident young person Pete Davidson, Jimmy Fallon, and Queen Fey. Alec Baldwin's Trump is just phenomenal. This is me too! I'm planning on watching it eventually, but haven't gotten around to it yet! Still enjoyed the sketch though. The Crucible Cast party was the bomb, because it reminded me of every high school drama cast party I went to. Good times!
  2. Are the ratings really not good? I don't really pay attention to that kind of stuff. That sucks. I really like this show. Sure, it has it's flaws, but I think the positive things about this show outweigh that. I love the cast - each character is cast perfectly, I think. It's kind giving me whiplash how many stories they're trying to juggle, but at this point, I'm invested in them all. I really liked Ginny's ex-boyfriend. Actually felt bad for him most of the episode. Still loving me some Mark-Paul. The previews for next week look really good.
  3. Oh my goodness, yes! Make it so, show! And then maybe Tiffani Amber-Thiessen can show up as his high school ex-girlfriend... I was thinking the exact same thing! Seems like they could be going there... I really hope that Will is still in Ginny's life...they had a really cute sibling relationship. And again, would love to know where their mom is in all of this. The smoldering kind of longing glance that Mike gave Ginny when she was dancing at the club had me thinking they might go there with those two. Which I wouldn't totally hate. They have pretty great chemistry. But also, the end of the episode totally means that Mike/Amelia did or are going to hook up? Right? Right. The scene where Al apologized to Ginny was really sweet, I thought. When he was talking about his daughters and all. I don;t think he hd any malicious intent when he brought up how Ginny is good-looking. I liked the twist of the super feminist TV anchor being Mike's ex wife, Love the actress playing her. Hope this isn't the last we see of her,
  4. Looking forward to another season of getting my PreviouslyTV on with you lovely people! The cold open was just so, SO good. Of course Kate crushed it as Hillary, but Alec Baldwin was so spot on as Trump. And yay for seeing Michael Che as Lester Holt! I was hoping to see him in more sketches this season, so seeing him in the cold open was great for me. Liked the opening monologue. The fact checking was funny. Cecily's was my favorite, but they were all good. I think my fave sketches of the night were The Librarian (the slo mo cracked me up, and the transition of the librarian getting nastier was hilarious and disturbing), Family Feud (all of the impressions were great....lost it when "Donald Jr." and "Eric" popped up), and Weekend Update...least favorite sketch was The Hunch Bunch...don't think I laughed once. First, shallow note, loving Jost's new suit and tie combo for the season! Dude was looking hella good. Che too! Cecily was hilariously unhinged as the undecided voter, and loved seeing Big Papi back...always one of my favorite WU bits! The endorseMINT was especially great. Really enjoyed Jost and Che taking on the debate as well. And The Weeknd Update was fantastic this episode! "I got a haircut..." Margot Robbie was an awesome host! Really funny and seemed game for a lot! Super impressed with her. I adore that Leslie Jones was willing to poke fun at the whole hacking scandal that she went through this summer. I really missed Jay Pharoah and really, really missed Taran Killam...also.......................... WHY WASN'T VANESSA BAYER IN ANY SKETCHES TONIGHT?!?!?!? I did not enjoy that one little bit. But over all, a pretty good season premiere!
  5. Hear, hear! Randall & Beth are my absolute favorite couple on the show (not that there’s really a lot to choose from). They are such an adorable and strong couple. I love how Beth is so fierce in wanting to protect Randall. I think she might be my favorite character right now. I love the entire family! Their girls are so cute. Loved the little one calling asthma her vice! Yes, I noticed that Randall did not seem happy to see Miguel as well! Also (and maybe this is me overthinking things), but Kevin and Kate keep telling each other that they’re the best part of each other’s lives, and they don’t know what they would do without each other…I thought this might be foreshadowing that both parents had passed away in present day. But now seeing that Rebecca (Mom, for those of you still struggling with character names!) is still alive, I wonder if there was some kind of falling out between Jack and Miguel, or fishy circumstances to how Rebecca and Miguel got together. Because I would think that Kevin and Kate would consider their mom a pretty important part of their lives as well. (I think I’m definitely overthinking this, maybe…) I still think Toby is hilarious, but yeah, something about his character is a little offputting…he seems a little sex-crazed, no? Maybe this is one of his coping mechanisms for his weight issues though? Loved this scene. It’s the one that made me cry in this episode. I think Justin Hartley is good actor – he handles comedy especially well, I think. But those legit tears in his eyes and trembling in his voice tonight had me all like “Dammmmmmmmn Fox/Oliver/Patrick/Will/Scott/Adam!” He is bringing good stuff! Sterling K. Brown was incredible in that scene too…and when the Big Three did their chant, I lost it. I had all the feels. This storyline, while maybe a little contrived, is the one that I can certainly relate to the most. Like Kate, I’ve struggled with my weight since I was in elementary school. And to this day, it’s something that weighs heavily (heh heh) on my mind. My weight has yo-yoed in the past 10 years, and sometimes, I cry in fitting rooms because nothing seems to fit. I cry when I’ve had a long, hard day, and am stress eating potato chips and ice cream, knowing that this is adding to my stress rather than relieving it. Because struggling with weight is stressful, and wreaks havoc with your physical AND emotional health. And I want to lose the weight, but sometimes it seems like such a steep hill to climb…I’ve done it in the past (lost 40 pounds about 5 years ago), so I know it CAN be done. But after gaining that weight back, it’s very discouraging. I think the actress who plays Kate is doing an excellent job with this storyline. I’m totally on board. How cute were the kids they got to play The Big Three when they were younger?!
  6. I really liked this. Parks & Rec is one of my favorite shows of all time, so when I saw that Michael Schur was involved in this one as well, I knew I had to tune in. Also, I absolutely adore Kristen Bell. She was great here playing Eleanor. She played the awful character so well, but since KB herself has such an inherent likeability factor, I think a little of that transferred over to Eleanor, and made me actually want to care about whether or not her character stays in the good place. Ted Danson can do no wrong. Loved him here. I though everyone seemed perfectly cast so far. Adored Chidi and the actor who played him. Overall, I forking loved this shirt, and think I am in it for the long haul!
  7. I came for Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and I shall stay for Mark-Paul Gosselaar...that, and, you know, the show was pretty good. Guess I'll stay for that too. Loved the actress who played Ginny. Solid lead. The Ghost Dad twist floored me. Didn't see it coming. Not sure I liked his motivaional techniques for Ginny through the years...crazy intense. I hope this show explores the dynamics with her mom and brother, and how all of this has affected them too. Another show to add to my "must-watch" list. Great news for my social life...haha, JK, I don't have a social life.
  8. I totally did not see the twist coming…all of the articles and interviews I read from show creators/actors before the show made me aware that there would be a big reveal of some kind, but I had no clue this would be it. I actually yelled at my TV” OH MY GOD KATE AND KEVIN ARE JACK AND REBECCA’S KIDS” and then seconds later “THEY ADOPTED RANDALL. IT’S IN THE PAST!” (Sidenote: I had consumed about a ½ bottle of wine at this point. And I actually do talk/yell to myself. Live alone, yo…) Like others here, I hope now that they reveal has happened, that we’ll see some scenes between all three siblings. A few things in the show seemed to indicate that Jack and Rebecca have passed away in the present day, which is a bummer. But I’m excited to see this all unfold. Thought all of the cast did a great job. I laughed quite a bit (mostly at Toby and Kevin’s characters, and Randall's awesome soccer playing/braiding twins), and teared up, but only cried once (when Dr. K was consoling Jack after revealing that the last baby was stillborn. Great acting from both gentlemen in that scene). Loved Kevin’s meltdown! In the post-show video, they said that some of that scene was ad-libbed by Justin Hartley, which is kind of cool. I actually did notice this. But I had read that the characters were all interconnected somehow, so I thought they were just friends...hypothetical bros. So it didn't ruin the twist for me at all. And gives me hope that we will see some scenes with "The Big Three" in future episodes. I kind of wondered that too...however, I'm sure that NBC wouldn't have ordered this show if it didn't have a solid plan going forward. I'm excited to see how they jump between timelines, and see what happens to all of these characters.
  9. HAHA!!! Yes. This. One of the main reasons I'm tuning into this show. Also pretty excited for Mandy Moore (who I think is actually a decent actress) and Milo Ventimiglia. Bring it on, This Is Us.
  10. I was wondering about Rob Klein and Bryan Tucker as well! (I read that same article earlier today.) Is there a chance that maybe they are staying co-head writers as well? I know four seems like a lot, but there have been times when they've had three. What's one more? Especially in an election season. From what I've heard, head writer is a very stressful and time consuming job (though that can probably be said for every job on SNL). Maybe they're spreading it out, so it will be easier for everyone? (I realize this is unlikely, but maybe a possibility?)
  11. I was kind of thinking this might open some doors for Michael Che to be in some sketches, because I thought he did great in the ones he was in last year. (Like you said, I don't really see Jost moving over to sketches.) However, according to The AV Club, it's expected that several new cast members will be introduced before the new season...which meh. A positive that I was taking from the departures of Taran/Jay/Jon is that I thought it was a good thing that they seemed to have shrunk the cast a bit, and it might give other people more opportunities. (On a somewhat related note, maybe Beck could do the Tim Kaine role?)
  12. Ahhhhhhhh, this sucks so hard. I'll miss Jay, but I'll REALLY miss Taran. He's always been one of my favorites. Guess this means we'll never see Jebidiah Atkiinson again...and the high school theatre sketches will never be the same. But it seems like he's got some great things on the horizon. So congrats to them both, and best of luck.
  13. YES to Adam Scott (been hoping for this one for a while), Mindy Kaling, Ellie Kemper, Gina Rodriquez, and Ben Schwartz. Also had no idea that Gina and Ben were a rumoured couple. I love that...and to everyone saying Kristen Bell, yes squared. To the power of yes. I also adore Nick Kroll, but not sure his profile is big enough to host SNL. In the same vein, it would be cool to see someone like Scott Aukerman or Matt Besser host. But not sure if they're big enough names. I know this is probably a long shot, because he's on another network, but I think James Corden would an incredible host. He is hilarious and charming, and he can sing and act. It could happen - he was on Seth Meyers' show a couple of weeks ago. Make it so, SNL!! Also, I want Jason Sudeikis to come and host real bad. Also, Aziz Ansari. And Brad Paisley. Hey, they had Blake Shelton last season, and Brad Paisley is a fellow hilarious country singer. Maybe Nick Jonas? He was pretty good in the couple of sketches he was in on his episode this season. And he was funny on Maya & Marty, Scream Queens, and even on that Jonas show that he and his brothers were on (which yes, I watched, despite being a lot older than what I'm sure their intended target audience was)/
  14. Yes to all of this. For me, it was funny even before the decapitation, with the stuff about poems that they were reading, and how the castmembers in it were playing their characters was great to me. How well it parodied "Dead Poet's Society" was amusing to me. It just switched humor gears after the decapitation.
  15. Mikey Day co-wrote it with Colin! Edited because I didn't see that vb68 had already kindly answered your question! I love reading through this thread after an episode, because it reminds me of little moments that I loved from the show. Many of them were in the "Farewell, Mr. Bunting" sketch. Pete's head being chopped off just kind of overshadowed them all. Jason Sudeikis eating the guacamole off of the shoe definitely tops that list as well!
  16. Cold Open: I liked it. The dance with Hilary insisting on leading was good, and I love her spinning Bernie into the elevator. And the whole cast saying "Live from New York, it's Saturday was a nice touch. Monologue: Did not really enjoy this. Some parts were funny but it dragged on a bit too long. Get to the show!!! Lewis and Clark: This was OK. Probably my least fave of the night. Digital Short: I loved this! Really, any time Andy Samberg is on my screen, I will be more than OK with it. And I'm so happy Vanessa got to play the sexy/freaky girl. Fantastic! Regine: I actually really loved this one. Jason Sudeikis was hilarious, and Fred was hilarious as Regine, I thought. And I loved that Vanessa broke. That was actually one of the best parts for me. Goodbye Mr. Bunting: I was thinking "where they heck are they going with this?" And then the fan chopped Pete's head off, and I absolutely lost it. This was so twisted and amazing and hilarious. I saw a tweet that said Colin Jost co-wrote this one. Props. Weekend Update: Maya Rudolph is amazing, so I loved her bit. Lots of great jokes this week too. Escape Pod: This wasn't great, but I got a few chuckles out of it. Student Theater Showcase: This is one of my favorite recurring sketches (along with Baby Boss, so I've been spoiled these past couple of weeks), so I was happy with it. Vanessa and Kenan playing the snarky parents is always one of my favorite parts of these. And Taran's dancing/movements between scenes gets me everytime! Harkin Brothers: I loved that the entire cast (including Jost and Che) were onstage for this, and Jason Sudeikis, Andy Samberg, Maya Rudolph, and Larry David as well. I thought it was cute, and a fun way to end the show. All in all, I liked the episode. I was meh on the musical guest. Had never heard of her or heard any of her music prior to hearing she'd be on the show, so I dodn't really have any expectations coming into this. I liked her first song far better than the second.
  17. Canadian here, so I loved all of the Canada references. I don't usually like Black Jeopardy that much, but I loved it last night (Rick Moranis...lol)! Again, Canadian here, so you know I loved me that hockey reference! Update is always one of my favorite parts of the show...they have settled into a very enjoyable bro chemistry. I enjoy their banter, and think they play very well off of each other. And they have both improved so vastly in their joke delivery as well. Last night was no exception. I liked all of the guests last night too.(Black Colin! White Che!) Was so happy with the return of Baby Boss!! Makes me think that the writers read my post from last week in the Brie Larson/Alicia Keys thread where I said, and I quote: "Also, I'd love to see a Baby Boss sketch before the season is through." I feel so powerful. This is one of my favorite recurring sketches. Beck's mannerisms are just hilarious. I was snorting with laughter so hard at the peek-a-boo part ("Where'd he go?! Oh, there he is!"). And his baby laugh, followed by a deep voiced, "Very funny". And I howled at the reveal that his dress shirt was in the style of a baby onesie when he took his pants off. I just love this sketch so much. I know it's kind of polarizing, but it makes me laugh so hard every time. So great! Drake really impressed me as host! I didn't watch his last episode, so wasn't sure what to expect, but he is very funny and charmng. "Drake's Beef" was hilarious. Also Bobby's physical comedy and the American Ninja Warrior sketch was perfection. And Jay's voice and pronunciation in the Rental Car sketch cracked me the hell up too... I loved the extra long goodbyes at the end of this episode too. It just makes my heart happy seeing everyone hug everyone and be so cute and I love how every week, Taran does that jump.
  18. I think Vanessa is one of the most underrated cast members right now, and one of my favorites...like you said, when she's the main character in a skit (Santa Baby, anyone?), she's incredible, but also great in smaller parts (the mom in the audience of the High School Theatre Sketches, for example) . And she plays such a wide variety of characters, and does them all well. Maybe it's because she's not flashy, I feel lik she flies under the radar sometimes.
  19. I love Brie Larson, so I was super excited for this episode. I think she did great with what she was given, but felt she was kind of underused? This (although Bobby and Aidy looked like they were trying not to break a few times)...also, the writing for the character was very similar to what it was last time. So it really wasn't that fresh or funny to me like it was last time. I still laughed really hard at "coot coot" though. And "drainer and "strainer". Kate still killed it, I just wish it wasn't so close to when/how the character debuted, because it felt sort of lazy on the part of the writers. I don't watch Game of Thrones, so that sketch was a snoozer for me. I really enjoyed the Mom Cut and Dead Bopz sketches. My fave of the night was probably Quiz Whiz 2018. I thought Weekend Update was really good again night. Loved Colin's Brazillian wax/olympic part. And although she appears often, I freaking love Vanessa's Laura Parsons character. The delivery just gets me every time. And Che reacts to her so perfectly. Loved Jost and Che riffing on Trump's messy office. I didn't hate Sasheer's part. I thought she was charismatic and sure, she fumbled a bit. You could tell she was nervous, but she was amusing enough! And though Pete's bit was not that different from what he usually does, I enjoyed it! I'm wondering why Taran hasn't played any characters on Update this season? I want Jebediah to make an appearance, dammit! Also I'd love to see a Baby Boss sketch before the season is through. Edited: Because grammar...
  20. Probably my fave Update joke. I guess I like dark humor... I though JLD was great in the episode. Even if some the sketches were kind of shoddily written, she (and the cast) elevated the material. I especially enjoyed the Classic Cinema, and the Car that runs on batteries commercial. That one really cracked me up...
  21. I think this was my least favorite episode of the season (except for the Trump episode). And I do not attribute that to Russell Crowe in any way. He seemed game for anything they threw at him, and was trying his darndest. I don't know if it was the sketch concepts or the writing in general, but this episode (like Deenie's brussels sprouts) was kind of a stinker. Things that I did like? 100 Days in the Jungle was pretty good if only for Russell Crowe yelling "Oh hell yeah, player!" before eating a duck's vagina, followed by Pete saying "He yelled 'Oh Hell Yeah, Player' and scarfed a duck's vagina." Also loved Deenie in Weekend Update. Been seeing a lot of mixed reviews in regards to the Deenie appearance on this episode, but I thought it was just as funny. The rest of WU was only OK to me. (But on a shallow note, I'm digging the longer hair on Jost.) I think I need to rewatch the Bruce Chandling bit. I kind of tuned out for that. I also really liked Margo Price. I just bought her album last week. I think she's amazing, and I'm always happy when SNL acknowledges that country music exists!
  22. Cold Open: I live in Canada, so I get pretty much all of my US political news from SNL (although I’ve been following it a bit more, because of SNL, if that makes sense). But I appreciated Kate’s reactions to all the crazy stuff Cecily was saying. They sold it. Monologue: Meh. I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but it was still funny enough. Loved when Vanessa came out to show her tatas because “screentime is screentime.” And Beck singing about dipping his chips made me laugh harder than I probably had any business too! Winnie The Pooh: Probably my least favorite sketch of the night. Although I will say that the cast and Peter sold their characters. It just wasn’t very funny. Naked & Afraid: Celebrity Edition: Everything about this was amazing to me! Leslie being Leslie, Peter being the perfect alarmed straight man. This cracked me the hell up. Mobsters: I think this was my favorite sketch of the night. (Despite whatever the hell happened with Rudnitsky…) “Space Pants” made me laugh so hard. Peter sold this. And I loved Bobby M. in this sketch too! So weird, but the weirdest and most obscure sketches always make me laugh the most. Glory Hole Restaurant: Again, weird as hell. But I liked it. All the actors were great. Peter and Aidy chowing down through the glory hole, and Beck and Vanessa acting like any normal human would in that situation. Game of Thrones: Don’t watch GoT…so I skipped this one! Weekend Update: Laughed at the first line about how Women’s History Month ended. The rest of the jokes were alright, but I always enjoy the banter back and forth between Jost and Che, and how they laugh at each other’s jokes. Even though Pete Davidson did his usual thing, he’s charming and funny enough to make it enjoyable. And I always love when Kenan plays David Ortiz. He just plays it with so much energy and gusto, I crack up everytime! Underwater Hotel Room: So weird, and kind of morbid, but I thought it was still quite funny. Vacation Nightmares: Aidy and Kate were hilarious, being “Danish” in this one. Everyone played their characters well too. Magician: Liked this one too. Peter and Taran were hilarious, and even the brief cutaway to Vanessa dressed like Peter was fantastic.
  23. I went into this episode with pretty low expectations because of Ariana Grande (even though she was actually not bad on Scream Queens...yes, I watched that show. Please don't judge me.), but I think it's my favorite episode of the season, and Ariana was amazing. I did not know she was that great of a singer, and her J. Law impression was so on point. So now I feel like a jerk...thanks a latte, Grande. (Haha, see what I did there? Latte...Grande...I'm sorry. I'm the worst.) Being Canadian, sometimes the politcal jokes/impressions go over my head a little, but I can still appreciate the humour in some of it. But I'll refrain from commenting on too much of that, except to say that it was great to have Larry David back. I thought the opening monologue was fun! The bit with her and Kenan was good and I thought the song was great too. I loved when Pete came out because he heard she wanted to smoke pot, and when she said they should smoke crack instead, his "I'm good" cracked me up! I actually loved all of the sketches, but I think my favorite was the mermaid/blobfish one. It was so random and ridiculous and hilarious, and I was crying with laughter. Kate is everything. I loved the #FeministSong too. So many of the female cast members have incredible voices, and I love hearing them sing! This was so endearing. Weekend Update was great again. Cecily was brilliant as the drunkest contestant on The Bachelor. I have a great appreciation for people who can act fake drunk and have it be hilarious, and Cecily nailed it. Her "I'm not crazy" and the smile slayed me! And it was great to have Riblet back. I love all of Bobby's WU characters, he's so funny. (Sidenote: I really hope that Taran does a character on Update at some point this season...I miss him. Bonus points if Jebidiah comes back, SNL! There's so many TV shows, movies, music, etc that he hasn't yet reviewed!!) Colin's pencil drop at the end of Update was adorable.
  24. While this was far from the best show of the season, I'm surprised by all of the really negative episode reviews as well. Other than the monologue (which was ridiculous, and thankfully, very, very short), I laughed at every sketch. Even is some of them were subpar. I think Jonah Hill is really funny, and he seemed game for anything, which I always appreciate in a host. And this...I really enjoy the current cast they have right now, so even when a sketch may not be the greatest, or very well written, I find the cast usually still finds a way to sell it and make it funny. I think Weekend Update was the strongest part of the show. So glad Jost and Che have found their groove this season. A looser approach definitely works for them. I think my favorite joke was the Donald Trump dong measurement joke. I almost did a spit take of my beer. And all the guests were great as well. (I think Vanessa Bayer mihght be one of the most underrated cast members right now. She always kills it, in my opinion.)
  25. Totally agree with this! I laughed heartily out loud at least once during every sketch tonight. Larry David just crushed it! I think the FBI sketch may have actually been one of my faves. I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews on Jon Rudnitsky's "Dirty Dancing" re-enactment. I personally was crying, I was laughing so hard. I found it brilliant, and while yes, it may have gone on a bit long, I laughed the whole way through. And I have re-watched it a couple times already, and Jost and Che's reaction shots in the background cracked me up as well. Hope this means we'll be seeing more Jon, and soon! I couldn't tell if the "It's his month" was ad-libbed or not either, but hilarious nonetheless. I am VERY ashamed to say that weed suppository joke was a thinker for me...BUT I got it before Michael said "It's a thinker". And I laughed HARD.
