  1. I watch TV, including the retro over the air channels, with a Tivo Premiere that has an outlet for antenna and one for cable.  Unfortunately I don't think the newer Tivos allow this anymore.  I mainly watch Me-TV over 33.1 in the NYC area to see Perry Mason, though they have a lot of other good older shows as well.  I'm afraid to cancel this cable because I'm currently paying about $100 with internet and cable through Spectrum, who took over from Time Warner, but I know I'm being grandfathered for now and if I drop cable I will end up with fewer channels at more cost if I come back.

I do see that Youtube is starting a streaming service with cloud DVR for something like $35 a month later this year.  I would consider that possibly, the biggest problem with services like Sling was the lack of a DVR I thought.  I'd still pay a lot though with Spectrum's charges for internet though.

At least he can say that he got Rosebud back. I'm guessing it wasn't compromised, because that guy doesn't strike me as any sort of tech genius.

I had the same thought.  By the way am I the only one who felt bad that the writers spoiled the reveal about "Rosebud" to anyone who hasn't seen Citizen Kane (there must be some people...)?

I also couldn't believe the way the congresswoman blabbed about an ongoing investigation by NCIS in the middle of a busy restaurant?  I almost felt also that they were making up this subplot to give Rocky Carroll something to do.

I'm glad Tim finally told Delilah, though I imagine she would have found out eventually even without the missing diamonds tie-in.

Nice to see a  Tim-centric episode.  I wonder though, have they gotten away from Tim's computer-whiz geekiness?  I didn't see much of it in this ep or in the others I've seen this year (not many I admit).

  3. I haven't watched a new sitcom in ages, but I saw the ads for this and I like it.  It has a good cast with Jermaine Fowler along with Judd Hirsch and Katey Sagal.  I also like the actor who plays Franco's friend.   If they can come up with good story lines I could see it lasting.

The title gets me thinking, though, there used to be a shop in New York called Fluffy Donuts (they either went out of business or changed their name to Fluffy's Cafe).  I think Fluffy Donuts would have been a good name for the shop, a little more memorable anyway.

After the excellent episode with Dr Jimmy on the ledge we are back to the cringeworthy writing. I lost count how many times I rolled my eyes.

I found the episode as an idea fairly tolerable - at least the only violence was offscreen which made it easier for me to watch - but I have to agree with the above.  I don't mind them doing a somewhat comic episode, but involving Senior just sunk it for me.  There is absolutely no reason to include him and I have a feeling that the producers are really overestimating his popularity with the fans.   It's Junior that everyone misses!

The only part I enjoyed was the repeated references to Dr. Palmer, and the scene where Ducky encourages Jimmy to give the results to Gibbs, and then forgets and starts giving them himself.

So where is Fornell by the way?  If they want to have a funny episode he'd be a much better addition than Senior.

  5. I just watched the show on demand tonight, which meant no commercial breaks.  It was great.  Brian was great, and I agree so was the actor who played Ryan.  I agree about the scene where Gibbs stops as he hears Palmer talking about his concern for him.  That was so well played.

I hope Ducky doesn't leave, but since David may wish to retire down the line, I think it's a good idea to have a situation where Ducky can retire and Jimmy can step in.

  6. I know she was 94 and lived a long and apparently happy life, but I am so sad that Barbara Hale is gone.  It was nice being able to watch the original Perrys and remember that she was still alive.  She always seemed like such a lovely and intelligent person and she brought those qualities to her role of course.

MeTV put up a remembrance still for her, but I wish they would dig around and find some episodes where she is featured more prominently.  I did recently see The Case of the Glamorous Ghost where Della receives a hefty finder's reward for finding rare jewels being smuggled in a jar of makeup (or was it cold cream - does anyone use that expression anymore?) and promises to take Perry and Paul out to dinner at the end.

I'm very happy. Been a huge Fed fan throughout his entire career, and after the last few Slam finals losses was beginning to doubt I'd ever see him win another. And to be honest, despite how well Fed was playing, I thought that Raonic needed to beat Rafa, because I feared Rafa more than anyone else in the final.

For Roger to win a Slam in his first tournament back after 6 months, winning three 5 setters, and beating Rafa in the final after being down in the 5th set - all amazing. Sorry to admit it, but when Roger lost the fourth set I doubted his chances in the 5th, and like practically everyone else, once Rafa got the break I thought it was lights out. But Roger came back to win 5 games in a row and averted what would've been another devastating finals loss. Maybe the worst ever given what was at stake.

This pretty much sums up how I've been feeling.  It was so sad for me when Roger took off the last 6 months of last year, it almost felt like he wasn't coming back.  But at the same time it was also sad seeing him getting to Slam semis and finals the last few years and winning nothing since Wimbledon 2012.  Honestly, I couldn't be more surprised at the whole thing.  I honestly didn't expect him to get past Berdych, then the final against Rafa seemed like it would be so hard,  and then when I had to go to bed without seeing it - I knew it would go to  at least 6 am - I guess it was really more like 3:30 am to 7:45am?  I got up and looked and was so thrilled he had won. No it obviously wasn't easy but I did feel that for all his brilliance for the whole two weeks the big difference was that Roger wasn't worried anymore about the history or the head to head record against Rafa, and finally just went for it in those last five great games.  So happy to see him make it to number 18.

    Oh, no!  :(

RIP, Barbara. I guess Perry needed you.

ETA I always loved the subtext with Perry and Della. Always having dinner together. In one episode, Della needed $25,000 and Perry wrote her a check, no questions asked.

Oh  I am so sad.  But it is sweet to think of that great Perry cast all together again.   I was watching the original show just tonight over dinner, as I do more often than not.  I am so glad MeTV brought it back, I never saw it the first time around, and it wasn't rerun often like so many other shows.

Rest in peace Barbara Hale.  You always seemed like such a lovely person.  and I too loved the chemistry between Perry and Della.

Roger had to make it interesting, didn't he?  My giddiness this morning has to compensate for my lack of sleep.  And I think I may be the only human on Earth who doesn't want a Rafa-Roger Final.  Go, Dimitrov!

No I don't want it either.  I just want a Roger win, basically, but I would be happy to see him playing against Dimitrov rather than Nadal.  I may be in a minority, but there you are.

  10. What does it say about ESPN that they think it's appropriate to put a repeated crawl of Coco's famous relatives under the screen?  How about when Venus is serving, writing "Sister:  Serena Williams."

I wonder, if Venus makes it, when was the last time she made it to a slam final before Serena?

  11. Ha, to tell you the truth @Spunkygal, I don't even avoid spoilers from the AO if I'm invested, I look up the score when I get up so I can watch the match without worrying about it.  It's been so great watching Roger's performances this tournament, and this way I'm not nervous (I know, I'm chicken about tennis).

    Come on Venus!

Sorry @crimsongrl, sorry, I should have added that men's semis are on ESPN. You are right that women's are on ESPN2.

Thanks for the alerts, I will have to see if I can record Roger's match over Tennis Channel though, I can't stay up until 3 am (to start!)  here and I'm never sure that ESPN will cut away from other sports to honor Tennis unless it's Wimbledon maybe.  The time difference between Melbourne and New York is such that all the night matches will start much too late.  I long for the good old days in the 1980s when this slam was still on grass and they began the men's and women's finals in the afternoon so it was only at 9 or 10 pm here.

  13. Maybe it's a glitch.   There have been times when I've seen my Weather Channel coverage go to country-wide showing major cities all over, rather than the New York area I live in.

I wish there were better alternatives.  The Weather Nation Roku Channel is still bare bones last time I looked.  When I went to Newfoundland on vacation I enjoyed watching the Canadian Weather Network, a much toned down variation channel (though they are apparently owned by Weather Channel).  Weather Network has a Roku channel also but unfortunately it's the same 10 minute or so feed over and over, and often a day late.  I'd pay a small fee to get a full version of it.

  14. I haven't watched this show since the first episode this year but I will have to see this one on demand.  It sounds great.   I don't want Ducky to leave but I'm glad Jimmy finally made it as an ME.  Thanks for the synopsis Sharpie66.

    (Hi, roseha! - waves)

Is there any chance Nike didn't give him preferential treatment this time because his ranking is down?  It's hard to believe, but the thought did cross my mind.

    Hi Harry!  (waves back!)

I just caught up with seeing Roger's match against Berdych, what an absolute delight!  I am just amazed.  Is it possible that taking an extended break has worked in his favor physically and mentally, if not ranking wise?  His performance was just extraordinary.  I would just love it if he could hang around even 2 or 3 more years at this level.

I'm  not sure though that the crummy outfit has anything to do with his ranking, I don't see any other player wearing that monstrosity so it appears Nike has some employees who flunked design school...

  16. Yes, Bouchard's outfit was ridiculous, the top was creeping up on her when she raised her arm.  I also agree that Roger's outfit design is dreadful, I can't believe he doesn't send Nike back to the drawing board when they ask him to wear stuff like that.

It's been so great seeing him play again, I won't be able to stay up to see him play Berdych but wishing Roger luck.

I can only shake my head as to the ratings that a clearly inferior acted and scripted show like Scorpion (which I admit to watching) gets compared to Elementary.  Not to mention 2 Broke Girls (another show I watch/hate-watch).

The ironic thing, at least to me, is that Elementary really exists in its own world and not in the cookie-cutter CBS drama world like  NCIS (and I used to watch NCIS and NCIS NO until giving up due to their plot lines and cast changes).  The Guardian article I linked to in the Media thread actually made mention of this as well.    I hope we can get another year from CBS, the show does seem to do well in syndication.   I wonder though if these long extended plot lines work against the show in that regard.  It's generally easy to watch a typical old episode of Law and Order or Law and Order CI, for instance, since they usually stand on their own.
