I havent even watched Iga but I will root for her because I cant stand Kenin’s behavior. She seems to be the ultimate bad winner. I dont know if her crazy dad is partly to blame but all I can say is go Iga.

Great news! I really hope Brokenwood keeps going as long as possible. They have really kept the quality high and all the actors are great, including the semi regulars like “Frodo” and “Mrs. Marlowe”.

I really hope Petra will win this. It would be such an amazing story after she suffered that terrible attack and slow clay isn’t even her best surface. To add the French to her two Wimbledon titles would be so great for her after all she went through.

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”
roseha replied to Actionmage's topic in Network Talk
There's a local Over-the-Air Channel, WJLP from New Jersey (though I believe they now broadcast from NYC as I get them in perfectly in Manhattan) who have been broadcasting Me-TV (on channel 33.1) for the last several years, and around a year ago I found out that they also simulcast a delightful oldies station which goes heavy on the 50s and 60s on channel 33.14. To my surprise, they have added the Retro Channel on 33.5. This channel is carrying all kinds of classic shows from Naked City and Route 66 to the Soupy Sales Show. Unfortunately the Soupy Shows are not the classic black and white 60s shows that Soupy ran from New York back in my childhood; those were said to have been mostly destroyed despite their great popularity at the time (in spite of their shoestring budget). Still it's fun to see these 70s shows with a similar spirit. -
He posted that he just got a negative result a few hours ago so I believe that means the last 24 hours? Clearly he should not have played although he said that his physio did inform the FFT doctors of his symptoms at some point prior to the match as I understand it. I do think that if the FFT had used protocols as strict as the USTA's situations like this could have been avoided. Also I read that Thiem was feeling unwell yesterday - stomach issue? -though I hope it's nothing serious.
-
He has since tested negative. Why they are not testing players daily before each match (and on off days) I have no idea.
-
There's also Roland Garros radio coverage @TVbitch, I believe you can hear it live in English: https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/ I watched yesterday on TC over Sling but haven't renewed their TC Plus, it's only yearly unfortunately and the other Slams are all on ESPN.
-
You're welcome @khyber. I have to say that I wish there were more Peacock coverage, since I suspect that NBC might have first say over Tennis Channel in terms of coverage. I'm keeping Sling for the next month to get TC, and then will see.

I was able to find a page just now with the complete channel breakdown: https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2020/09/22/french-open-tv-live-stream-schedule/ There does seem to be more NBC coverage than in recent years if I am remembering correctly, also I'm interested to see that there is some coverage on the NBC Peacock app as well. I have already signed up for Peacock for the special $29 a year deal so I will have to check out that coverage. Let's really hope there are no more COVID issues, apparently several players are already out of qualifying after either they or their coaches tested positive.

I've been a major subscriber to Acorn since....I think it started last fall after I watched an episode of Agatha Raisin while on vacation in Ireland. I've watched all of Agatha, but my favorite Acorn shows are Brokenwood Mysteries, a contemporary New Zealand detective show with great regulars and semi-regulars in the cast, and also Detectorists, which has its own thread here, but I just discovered it this year and loved it. I enjoyed Doc Martin too though I hope they will follow through on the promised final season - they certainly left off Season 9 with a cliff-hanger. I tried to find a new show this week so tried Bed of Roses, an Australian show about a rich woman whose husband suddenly drops dead leaving her nothing, so she and her family have to start over. Unfortunately it's not grabbing me. It may be partly the accents, which I can't always follow, but I think I expected it to be more serious than it is. Given the premise, the light treatment doesn't do much for me. However, others may like it, I guess, it has 3 seasons.

Naomi just went to 5-2. She is looking good. I think Serena and Vika will be a great match.
-
@Hudson0325, are you able to get ESPN plus to watch the matches? That may be a cheap way to see them.

I was so sad today to see the news about Diana Rigg. What a brilliant actress. I had only just seen her this year in the wonderful comedy Detectorists, as the mother of the character played by Rachel Stirling, her real daughter. I recommend seeing her in it, preferably on Acorn which has all 3 seasons (she is in the second and third). There is also an interview with her in which she says she is happy to still be working. So classy. Rest in peace Dame Diana. -
I was so sorry to see the headlines about the great Diana Rigg today. Seeing her on Detectorists was great, it was the first time I had seen her in years and I had enjoyed the fact that Rachel Stirling not only resembled her but seemed to have the same exact voice. So sorry, she will be so missed RIP. Also have been meaning to say how much I too love this show.

In other news, Roland Garros still insists that they will be admitting thousands of fans, all while keeping the players in a 2 hotel bubble a la the USO. I wonder how they intend to work out that contradiction. Defending champion Ash Barty has already withdrawn though partly due to restrictions in Australia as well I hear.

I was so happy to see Sascha Zverev make his second consecutive GS semi after overcoming Coric - who has always given him a tough time - today. I know people are saying the match wasn't pretty but I saw some fine individual plays and sometimes the players just have to tough it out I imagine. Im sure all the young guys are very aware of the big opportunity they may have. Anyway, Sascha really seems to have calmed down this year and been able to stay in tight matches as well. He has started working with David Ferrer and that can only be a good thing. Good to see his progress.

Retro TV Channels: ”The Good Old Days of Television”

I loved The Odd Couple. One of my favorite episodes was The Subway Show where Felix tries to prove to Oscar that New York is still a great town. Recently I was thinking that Tony as Felix would have been the perfect character to get everyone to social distance and wear their masks! Sometimes I quote his line to myself: "New York has made me tough!" -
Actually I'm pretty sure the person claimed to be a USO ball person. However, it's the internet...still I wonder what the protocol is.

I was just thinking about this last night. I believe that the Asian Swing has already been canceled by the local governments, so that technically leaves a few indoor events like Basel and the Paris indoors, but at least one journalist I read felt that indoor events just can't happen until there is a vaccine. By the way I rarely go on the reddit tennis sub anymore, but someone posted there claiming to be a US Open lines person or ball person and made the point that they would not be in a bubble and would be taking public transport.

Yes. I think Tim was amazing. I can only imagine how he must have worked to get well enough to make the movie, and yet his acting was wonderful. He totally had me believing every scene and I was getting teary eyed at the end. I happened to see an article where he expressed concern about the change in his voice, but I thought his voice and vocal delivery were fine. I agree that it was much better than the first movie - in fact I honestly hardly remember anything about the first movie at this point, except the ending. I'm glad they were able to work in all the regulars, though there was a little too much Woody for me - I tend to see him as a better in small doses character. I like that Dule is playing Gus a little more grown up now, and he and James/Shawn retain that great chemistry. I also was amused by Juliet keeping a secret from Shawn for a change. I did figure out most of the plot pretty early, but this show is always more about the characters than the mysteries. I feel bad for all of you who can't get the service properly. I have a new-ish Sony Bravia TV and I was able to download Peacock on the Android platform and it played fine. I am glad I got the special $29 a year rate since I don't know what else I'll be watching on this service in the near future.

I am just in shock. Grant was always my favorite Mythbuster. It wasn't even close. So very sad. I can't get my head around it. Rest in peace Grant. -
I can usually cast videos from the Chrome browser to my Sony Android TV (when my guest network feels like cooperating) so hopefully that will be one way I can catch this movie. I have to say though, what is NBC *thinking*? They had all this time to prepare this service and they have made it so difficult.

I thought of Mel right away too! For all that Carl Reiner accomplished, the story of their continuing friendship at each other's homes in recent years was so touching and sweet. Rest in peace Mr. Reiner and thanks for everything -
I think it was the Peacock website. Someone on another thread here (I think on streaming services) said there was a reduced yearly plan being offered. It's still being offered here for $29 a year: https://www.peacocktv.com/earlysignup

This whole thing is so confusing NBC. I signed up for the special rate offer but then got an email saying "see you July 15!" What if I miss it that night, will it even be repeated? I'd rather just buy the show from some service but it's not clear to me if we can do that.
