S02.E05: The Rise of David Miscaviage
dcubed replied to a topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
Did I see one of the "commercials" correct - that this series won the "Best Informational Show" Emmy? That's gotta make Wee Davey worried. Yes, it's in the Media thread and on Tony Ortega's site. She won at the Creative Arts Ceremony. -
S02.E05: The Rise of David Miscaviage

I think the most telling thing tonight was when Leah said that yes, David Miscavage is a bad guy but if it wasn't him it would be someone else in his place doing the similar things (paraphrasing) because that's what LRH's teachings are : lie, conceal, attack rather than defend, disconnect, punish...ultimately that "the end justifies the means". Clearing the planet and preserving Scientology, however you get there, is perfectly fine. I think DM is evil but from what I've seen and read there are probably dozens of evil people in that organization (and at one time, Mike Rinder was one considered one of them). Everyone we've heard from that blew were in RPF or The Hole, they went from being an oppressor to being oppressed - that's what shook them back to reality. Paul Haggis might be the first we hear from that didn't receive physical punishment but instead left over philosophical/theological differences. Ultimately, I agree with Leah, it is the "teachings" of LRH are the source of the problems. It isn't just DM that needs to be brought down, it's the whole damn church. -

It was Brooke Shields, who is a far better person than me and accepted his apology and then went to his wedding. And what kind of mother would not rush to her child and do everything possible to help them get better and ease their pain? I don't even have biological children (two wonderful steps) and I would go to the ends of the earth for them. It's inexplicable to me. Child labor, child abuse and human trafficking...this should be everything the government needs to shut them down. They need to do a raid on Flag, The Hole, and everywhere else people are being held, round them up and separate them from the "officers". Many might not talk but I bet a lot would. -
She was born into it, I think, which has limited her exposure to the outside world and given them many years to brainwash her. I used to think her ex was an ass based upon what she's said about their marriage - and he may be - but maybe being married to someone like her and Davey wasn't so easy either.

Just saw this from Elizabeth Moss who appears so bright and informed when it comes to many current issues. I can't believe she is so insulated to not understand how her "religion" treats people: E! News reports that Elisabeth Moss, star of The Handmaid's Tale, recently shared a photo of herself on Instagram. In the comments below the picture, someone asked, "Love this adaptation so much. Question though, does it make you think twice about Scientology? Both Gilead and Scientology both believe that all outside sources (aka news) are wrong or evil… it's just very interesting." Moss responded: "That's actually not true at all about Scientology. Religious freedom and tolerance and understanding the truth and equal rights for every race, religion and creed are extremely important to me. The most important things to me probably. And so Gilead and THT hit me on a very personal level. Thanks for the interesting question!" Religious freedom? They can't leave. Tolerance? Disconnection and SP's. Equal rights? Child molestation and slavery. I'm surprised they haven't paired her up with TC. They're both single and delusional.

Against my better judgement, I watched. Let's see... Le Twins were out of synch and there's just two of them. They brought nothing new or interesting as stealing half your moves from MJ is neither. Swing Latino was out of synch but there's a gajillion of them so that's harder to do (though Kinja's succeeded each time they danced) Eva danced her heart out but there was no way they were putting $1,000,000 into the hands of a 14 year old that hadn't paid her dues yet. I predicted almost all the advancing teams throughout the competition because it was telescoped so clearly and/or the judges did a poor job hiding their biases. I will not watch next season.

Nope. I think he does a great job explaining the food tastes, heat, textures, tenderness, bite and he shows appreciation and respect for the chef/cook even though I suspect sometimes the food isn't exactly his thing.
-
I may have been mistaken but it seemed to me that he jumped out of the wheelchair and took about three giant leap steps in excitement. Didn't look that injured to me.

I'm out for next season but I wanted to share that not only is the judging total fuckery, the three separate divisions meeting in the final are two. It should be the three best dancer(s), no matter age or size of group. As wonderful as Eva is and has the potential to be, she does not belong there with Kinjaz and K&M out, let alone some of the other acts.
-
That was some serious fuckery. When Swing Latino beat Kinja's, I thought "There's one less reason to watch." When Ne-Yo gave Keone and Mari the 100, I turned to my husband and said, "They're done. That was a vote to say 'You're so awesome, it was so close' once they give higher scores to Les Twins. And that was what happened. I have never understood the appeal of Les Twins but there is no flipping way they out-danced K&M. I hope the 14 year old takes it but my guess it will be Swing Latino because that's who J Lo wants and she's the producer. I doubt I'll watch next week.

Yes, he didn't know what Loco Moco was but he knew what a plate lunch is. Why is he faking stupid? It is not endearing.

ITA. I cannot understand why Les Twins keep getting scored so high. I see nothing innovative or interesting in their routines. They leave me utterly cold. MTE. I don't get Les Twins. I don't find them terribly in synch. One is always dancing slightly ahead and more frantically than the other. Angsty faces do not emotional dances make.

What have we ever done to you?????

I have no problem with Giada pronouncing things in her dialect anymore than I when Jacques Pepin or Ludo Lefebvre pronounces things with a French accent, or José Andrés with a Spanish accent or Aaron Sanchez with a Latin American accent. Or for that matter, my husband, for whom Italian is his first language. He always pronounces ricotta, mascarpone, parmigiano and other foods with an Italian accent. Italian is her first language. She was born there and it was spoken in her home. I'd rather not hear an beautiful Italian dishes and ingredients, or French dishes for that matter, slaughtered by American accents.

I love them. Dance is so much more than how many tough movements one can make. It is about expression and story telling. It is why I like Kinja's so much too and think the props and their dance identity is so awesome. It i why I don't care for the contemporary singles that show how flexible they are without any real expression of dance. This type of dancing really speaks to me even if it isn't the most technically difficult or perfectly executed.

What I am thinking is that the judges can see how things are going just as well as we do, if not with a little more inside knowledge. Normani had been in jeopardy once prior. Heather got eliminated after a perfect scores so her vote total must have been very low. I can see them talking about who they want to remain and who they are concerned about and rewarding that person with the highest scores, worthy or not. Straight up know who's going? - no. Got a good educated guess as to who might go? - yes.
-
I'm just wondering if they reboot how she'll have time to be on the show and run three restaurants. She's pretty hands-on at hers.
-
I might be getting my weeks mixed up but if they had the best scores that night, it wouldn't help them from being eliminated as elimination was based upon the previous week's scores. So, just like Heather's perfect score didn't save her, Normani's may not have had the votes to keep her in so they gave her the immunity to keep her in and try to build momentum to keep her around.

I'm sorry :)

I was rocking with everything you had to say. I wanted to high five you or buy you a beer. Until this ^ You had me until this. When are we going to stop deciding that how someone looks defines who they are. Red hair makes you trashy? Well, OK but I'm a red head. I guess then it's OK to say that fat people are untrustworthy and lazy? That people with tattoos are uneducated and racist? There is a difference between liking a performance and judging a person. I've gone too far off topic but I will say, once I learned about the ignore button, it increased my pleasure in reading posts exponentially. Outside of that, I want you to teach me how to do a Flying Mancuso Spin, a four step Zaljecko, a Sugared Swizzle Stick and a Hough Chaser or at least be my guest at a wedding as I also suffer from White Girl Dancing Syndrome.

I have not been to her restaurant but ate at Spiaggia about six years ago and while the menu was "pasta centric" it wasn't anything like pasta I had ever had. The fillings were unusual as were the flavors. It was the farthest thing from traditional Italian pasta I could have imagined and it was delicious.

She didn't just do pasta. She won a chairman's challenge doing a beet schnitzel. She also made soup, cardamom ice cream and a won ton, which while technically a pasta, is a different breed with different flavors. One could say that Nakajima only does Japanese or Bobby always does things with a Southwestern twist but that is a real simplification of their skills. I think Stephanie is the right one to go on because she is so daring but I won't down play Sarah's skills or her ability to be a IC. And before someone tells me what a bitch she is or whatever, her cooking skills have nothing to do with her personality...some of the best chefs are some of the biggest assholes.
