Faith Ringgold, quilt artist and children's book author, has died at the age of 93. From the article: "For more than a half-century, Ms. Ringgold explored themes of race, gender, class, family and community through a vast array of media, among them painting, sculpture, mask- and doll-making, textiles and performance art. She was also a longtime advocate of bringing the work of Black people and women into the collections of major American museums."

Maybe you brilliant and observant folks can help identify something which is driving me crazy. I am listening to an audio book narrated by the author. He has a weirdly stilted but enthusiastic style of narration, not quite maddening enough to make me give up on it. Yet. My biggest issue is that he pronounces daughter as dorter. He also says warters for waters. Whence comes this pronunciation? Is it a regional dialect? Thanks for your assistance!

Peter Schickele, creator of P.D.Q. Bach, has died. I had the distinct pleasure of attending a number of live P.D.Q. Bach performances at Carnegie Hall in the last millennium. I also conducted my high school Renaissance Choir in performances of some of his madrigals ("My Bonny Lass She Smelleth") and rounds ("The Art of the Ground Round" Schickele Number 119/pound). He was truly brilliant.

She was 85."

It's good to hear (read?) that they are doing well. I didn't watch Boy Meets World but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them together and separately over the decades. I particularly liked them in St. Elsewhere and thinking about Mr. Daniels' John Adams in 1776 always makes me smile.

I never watched Modern Family, so I know absolutely nothing about Sarah Hyland. I usually avoid clickbait, but this article about her filming while awaiting a kidney transplant is interesting and rather distressing. Poor kid (I am more than old enough to consider her a kid).

Same here. I discovered The Rat Patrol while in grad school, decades after its original run. A colleague mentioned that Hans Gudegast had changed his name and had been on Y&R for years, so I started watching it for a while. Could not stick with it more than a year or so. I prefer Hauptmann Dietrich to Victor Newman.
