  1. Sorry to hear that. He sounds like a sociopath. I'm glad she survived.
  2. Not sure if it's ok to ask, why was he "allowed" to shoot her? I know laws are different in the US, but still, holy crap.
  3. I've also experienced both and we'll have to agree to disagree. Being scared for your physical safety also leaves you stressed (I would also count being explicitly threatened with physical/sexual violence into that category). With online, you can technically log off - yes, it's not fair to have to do that, but at least it can be a means to escape.
  4. Now I don't feel so bad for having to google some abbreviations.
  5. I agree but I wouldn't say that mental bullying is worse than physical bullying. The victims can respond differently to different types of bullying and think they would "prefer" the other type, but physical violence is not just physical but also mental.
  6. Yes. (I still have one) But they will still have access to internet on computers.
  7. Question to comic book readers: Do you think the last two episodes will adapt I don't want them to make but it seems that's where we are heading.
  8. A lot of bullies are also victims of bullying. That doesn't absolve them of their responsibility . Some countries are now talking about banning smartphones for children under certain age. I think I've seen ages 13 and 11 mentioned so far. I don't usually weigh in, as I have no children, but I think some regulation is necessary. Obviously they need phones - I was a teenager when mobile phones started to be used by everyone and until I got my first one, we always had a pay-phone at school, so I could call my mom at work if I was going to a friend's house after school. I don't know if schools still have those. And parents are probably already used to their children having phone at all times. But the access to internet is a different thing. I am not for censorship in general, but children and teenagers having access to everything including social media can be dangerous. There are a lot of predators and even parents with best intentions can't keep track of everything. The idea of parents monitoring everything their children watch on internet doesn't sit well with me either. There has to be some solution that lets children access the info or community they need without total supervision, but still keeps them from getting harmed. I don't envy the people who need to sort this out.
  9. My guess is that when it comes to child actors, or really any children that had to work instead of study, play and do all of the usual "child stuff", the ones who make it out unscathed are probably the exceptions. Especially if they live under so much media scrutiny.
  10. Lumping people by generations can be tricky. It might work for some cultural phenomenons that are specific for a certain period of time, but when it comes to economics there are obviously a lot of other differences that can matter more than the time period, like the background or individual economic situations. (and that is even before you factor in different countries)
  11. Yeah, the Disney versions of classic fairy tales (or other stories) have been quite altered. See: Disneyfication This is a modern phenomenon, pre-20th century, fairy tales were usually not seen as stories for children, but mostly adults, and could get very dark (more like what we now call folklore or myths). I like both concepts, but they are fulfilling very different needs.
  12. I don't understand why do people make it into an issue of outdoor shoes vs. bare feet like those are the only two options. Do they not sell slippers in the US or what?
  13. AI has no soul. You can make mediocre art with no soul, but good art is only made with a soul.
  14. I love Disney movies. I've never been to Disneyland, but I'm not sure I would be much interested even if it wasn't so expensive for me. I am not much into theme parks and crowds. I have some merchandise, but I'm trying to cut back on buying stuff I don't really need. I have 2 Frozen mugs and some stickers and I think that's it. I once made myself a dress to cosplay as Elsa for comic con. I am mostly into the stories themselves, so I got most of the DVDs, even though I now have Disney+. I like all kinds of stories, those for children, adults, YA,... Disney has great animated stuff, both visually and story-wise. And movies aimed at children are usually hopeful and have happy endings and that is often what I need. A lot of shows and movies nowadays try to be too dark IMO, even some that I would not expect to. I don't know if they think it makes them more mature, edgy or whatever, sometimes it works, sometimes it IMO has the opposite effect. I can appreciate dark themes if done right, but sometimes I just want to know going in that this is going to be a comfort watch that helps me to stay sane and keep the rest of the faith in humanity I have left.
  15. We used to have a TV show like that and I was always soothing myself thinking they must be selecting the most outrageous answers to make it more interesting. Now, I'm not so sure and find it very possible that people really are that stupid.
  16. My paranoid brain is asking why is there no focus on Beast in the trailer.
  17. And often when they dress more casually, it's meant as a sign that they are letting themselves go or have a depression.
  18. Ha! My first thought when a man with a cat is mentioned is a European politician who shall remain unnamed, who is old, single his whole life, lives with a cat and is vocal about animal rights ... and is one of the worst misogynists I can think of. People are strange.
  19. I've never had a man hit on me. Although I had been told that I don't pay attention to my surroundings and can't read body language, so maybe I just didn't notice. Once upon a time, it bothered me and I wanted to look more attractive, but now, honestly after the stories I've heard from some attractive women about how every man they know hits on them, even friends they really wanted just as friends, I don't complain anymore. Plus with all of the news about women being stalked and murdered by their exes ... being single seems nice enough. And I'm bisexual, so I still have some hope that one day I might end up with a woman which sounds more appealing to me.
  20. I've always treated borrowed things with much more care than my own.
  21. I store my cat's food in our fridge and it never occurred to me that some might find it weird. But as a vegetarian, I would probably pass out at any insect part in my food.
  22. I need to vent about something from another site and I don't want to get backlash there, so this may seem random since I haven't seen such behavior here. But, it's what this thread is for, so please bear with me or feel free to skip. I love fanfiction. I really do, I love reading it and I have began writing one for myself. It's a great hobby and a way to bring fandom together, be creative, get representation that is lacking in the mainstream media. But my God, do I hate real-person-fanfiction. I don't mind it with historical people (after all, most of historical fiction is real-person-fanfiction to some extent), because those people are long dead and can't be hurt by it. If there is an afterlife where they are so bored that they watch us in present times and know we have some wrong takes about what really happened, it sucks but hopefully it's more like a source of amusement for them. But with living people? No, just no. It's disrespectful to those people and invasion of their privacy. I understand that celebrities probably don't go googling themselves on the internet if they want to keep their sanity, but I can't imagine if some of them or their family members saw what gets written about them. AO3 of course allows it, because they allow basically everything, even some pretty horrible stuff on the basis that it's all fiction, but I wish they would ban RPF. If someone feels the need to speculate about real people, I get it, I do it too sometimes, but I keep it to myself in my head. There is this idea now that fans are entitled to say anything and if you don't like it, just don't read it or block it, but I think that it's going too far. The freedom of expression should end when it interferes with a real person with real feelings and private life. One person's freedom ends where the other's begins. OK, that's all, thanks for listening, I feel better now.
  23. I loved him in non-comedic roles: Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting.
