  2. Sorry Sunny, but I call BS on your testimonial to your son.

Sure, he got into Harvard and I'm sure his 4.0 GPA helped him. What helped him even more was YOUR salary and your husband's salary (an orthopedic surgeon salary isn't exactly in the poverty range) which Harvard took a serious look at in making their decisions. I know a number of applicants to Harvard who had 4.0 GPAs in high school, but didn't get in because their families didn't have the finances to back that GPA up.

Consider yourselves fortunate, Sunny. Money talks - not GPAs.

  3. Remember I told you on Monday Meganutz was out because she ran out of cheap make-up and janky hair extensions?  Well she indeed went to her local Family Dollar store, and stocked up on $1 cosmetics and janky extensions - proof is what she looks like today on camera !

  4. For me, the first fifteen minutes was pre-empted for coverage of the supermarket shooting (I guess ABC felt there wasn't enough coverage by cable networks, so they had to share with their viewers?).  When they did come back, looks like the show came back from commercial.

Of course,  the solemn 'piano music' played (just a couple of keys on the piano)  before the camera went to Whoopi, so that cued me and other viewers in that 'we're going to be very dramatic and serious in this conversation'. If they came back with the upbeat theme song "Let's go! World's gone crazy...Ima go change the view!" it wouldn't have the same effect on viewers that they were having a 'serious conversation'.

The spring break discussion was odd. The topic was kids ignoring covid restrictions but Sunny veered off into a conversation about police treatment of black vs white students. Of course that’s an important issue worth discussing too but the point was supposed to be no kids should be partying it up in Miami.

Sunny's talking points on just about every topic lately has been 'people of color'. As you pointed out, this discussion had to deal with ALL college students, not a particular race, gender or religion of the students. I think if Meganutz was there, she may have called her out on it.

  6. Today's VYD was the worst of the bunch in a very long time. What doesn't help is the fact that Gretta Monaghan has to read from her index cards on every product. How hard is it to memorize the key points of every product* and highlight them in her descriptions? Then she feigns enthusiasm over every product, pretending her home is 'filled' with each product, as she needs help with her index cards describing it ? Talk about fake and phony.

    * Disclaimer: I owned my own retail store for 24 years, carrying many of the same type of items on the show. It didn't take long for me and my staff to read up on each product (just on the labels or prom ads!), memorize the key notes and sell the product to the customer. If we had to read off index cards about every product when customers came in, I'd never sell a thing.

So Joy doesn't get to give her opinion about what happened in Miami? Because...why? Instead, stoopid producer told Whoopi they had to go to break, and when they returned, the interviews with Courtney B. Vance and Cynthia Erivo.

I may just do the trial of National Geographic, because for some unknown reason, Hulu refuses to enable my closed captioning!

They didn't even cut to the celebrity interview  -  they went straight to Kardashian's make-up artist topic! I mean talk about insulting to Joy. Maybe the Kardashian discussion was a nod to viewers of 'The Talk' since that show's on an indefinite hiatus? Maybe they're trying to attract that audience ?

If they have decided to cancel, that would be another reason to postpone an announcement indefinitely. A couple of days ago, I posited they did that because they are having to difficulty negotiating a contract end with Sharon, but having to negotiate one with everyone would take some time too.

Canceling is easy - all the network has to do is contact the manager of each host and inform him/her that they've decided to cancel the show due to low ratings, and have them ask their client to come in ASAP and clean out her Office. The terms of cancellation are already in each host's contract, so the severance pay is already spelled out for each one.

Then the network immediately puts out a press release saying the show is canceled, before any of the hosts gets hold of the media.

I missed it if they said something - why isn't Meg on?  I'd lay odds if there isn't a reason given it's to avoid having to deal with the John Oliver swipe.  I can't see her admitting she was wrong and being an adult about it.

She ran out of janky hair extensions and cheap make-up this morning. She'll return tomorrow  after she makes a quick trip to the dollar beauty supplies store today. 😄

It can. The ratings are down therefore the ad revenue is down. It might be cheaper just to create a new show.

This is what I've been saying all along. Financially, it's just not worth saving. It is not making revenue for the network, it's gotten all negative press in the past few weeks which they can't use to their advantage - so why try to save this ? Just tear it down and start over - which is what I think is happening behind the scenes now.

As a matter of fact, I think they may be working on introducing something for 'May sweeps' which starts in about 4 weeks - so they will probably just keep running repeats until then. The new show may just run for the summer, and they may have a more permanent replacement for September. Or it may be a hit and stick around permanently.

I'd be shocked if this show returns at all.

If this were The Sharon Osbourne Show, I'd agree. However, The Talk is a panel show. Yes, the ratings have gone down and this Sharon fiasco is yet another headache for the network, but they still have a chance to repair the show. Everybody and their mother knows Sharon's a goner and after CBS puts their plan into action by sending her on her way with a nice chunk of change, they still have four other hosts left. It wouldn't make sense to throw the whole thing away without attempting to save what's left. Especially since this scandal is putting them on the pop culture radar. It's up to them how they maneuver this, but I don't think there'll be any slow singin' and flower bringin' just yet. We'll see.

It doesn't matter that this is a panel show compared to Williams. What matters most is that this is a NETWORK show and Wendy's a syndicated show. A syndie show does not cost as much as a network show, and there's much more leeway with a syndie show (and just one host to deal with). This show is a money-loser for CBS, and Osbourne is their easy way out. Don't forget - September - February ratings were released just before this spectacle aired, and no way was CBS celebrating their low ratings.

This is the lowest rated network daytime show this season, with a history of problems (since the Moonves fiasco in 2018). They can easily cancel this show, which wouldn't cost as much in pay-outs for their five hosts as it would if they fired Osbourne. Firing as star / host comes with more repercussions for the network than just canceling a show due to ratings.

I would agree with you that the bad ratings coupled with an even lengthier hiatus are the final nails in the coffin for the show, but then I remembered the drama going on with Wendy Williams two years ago: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/wendy-williams-show-returning-without-2305000065.html. Her ratings at the time weren't as bad as The Talk's, but her show could've been axed with the constant failed return dates and two month long breaks (along with the BS excuses for why she took so much time off). She should thank her lucky stars she weathered that storm.

    Tow completely different situations.

WW was on hiatus due to a medical leave, not because she said something offensive/racist, or had a blow-up with her cohosts.  Audiences are more sympathetic  and understanding with a medical leave, no matter the issue.  WW also has more decision-making in her show, as she is the creator, her production team is co-owner, and her show is syndicated (not network owned). She's not answering to a major network, so she could return whenever she wanted. If she lost some syndicated stations during her hiatus, she could sell her show easily to a competing station in the same market. Any way you slice it, it was a win for WW.

TT has much more at stake, as this is network-owned. The hosts aren't making decisions, they are not deciding the fate of the show, and if CBS axes them they have nowhere to turn. They don't have the same leeway as a syndicated show. And Osbourne is not gaining any sympathy or understanding from her audience.

Again, my belief is CBS is wasting no time to find a replacement for this timeslot, and will ax the show as soon as they have one.

I like Courtney Vance and Robin Roberts. I can do without Andy Cohen.

    I do, too.

But I'm not eager to watch Whoopi and Sunny fawn all over them and Cynthia Erivo (and throw up the word 'amazing' every chance they get) like they did with Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and Wesley Snipes a few weeks ago. They're going to call 'Genius: Aretha' an 'amazing' movie, their acting 'amazing', etc. Same with Roberts and whatever she's promoting - it's all 'amazing'.

  13. So now the show's off indefinitely, with no return date even suggested by CBS. Sounds like 'cancellation' to me.

I say the show is a goner, and CBS is now trying to fast-forward something into production at this point to fill that hour for the remainder of this season. The newest ratings for this season (after the February 'sweeps' but before the March 10 disaster) has the show at an all-time low in 11 years, down 27% from last season. They're now averaging half the audience of their rival 'The View' in it's 24th Season, which is drawing in 3M viewers each day.  Osbourne unwittingly did the network a favor, and helped them dump the show.

Just my opinion...we'll see what happens.

BTW, KUDOS to ABC and 'The View' for not even mentioning Osbourne on their show so far.

And now an angry Elaine has something to say:

At least Sara is willing to consider that there can be multiple factors affecting a person's behavior, especially when violence is involved. The other panelists seem to push for more simplistic explanations.

Agree - but Sunny shut her right down and dismissed her theory. It was rather humiliating, as Sara was trying to gain traction, but then Joy also shut her right down. Let's face it - they never really cared what the pretty little step-sister ever has to say.

  16. I believe if they do have Osbourne come back (which I doubt), it would be the most humiliating insult to Sheryl, Elaine, Julie, and Sara. And if Sheryl and Elaine have an ounce of self-worth left, they should leave should* Osbourne make it back. (*Osbourne made a veiled 'blackmail' threat to CBS  the other day, saying if this goes to litigation, they don't want her to start talking about the show because she's been there for 11 years and 'knows all the secrets' they've kept quiet.)

I also think Wendy W has the right idea - don't come back until next season (if CBS really wants them) and have a replacement for Osbourne. Show repeats until then. Erase this fiasco from everyone's memory and let them start new again.

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time in today's ICE T segment, in which she was going to tell him her friends from all over the world have invested in CAR SHIELD, and they have all said it's nothing but a scam. She was just talking to all of them in a group chat this morning before he joined the show. So she was going to filet him over this scam he endorses, but ...

She switched strategy and wasted time on his wife 'Coco'.

  19. I'm so glad we have 'three mental health experts' on this show weighing in at the same time - Sara, Joy, and Sunny. And they can't agree on a diagnosis for the killer in Atlanta. I'm sure Sara, who suffers from anxiety and depression, was happy Sunny shut her right down on national TV after uttering a half of a sentence.

The common denominator seems to be Sharon. There've been no accusations about racist or toxic behavior among the other hosts. Seems like it would've come out by now if there were.

Remove the source of the problem (Sharon) and the show has a better chance at bouncing back from this. If not, at least they tried. I doubt CBS is going to dump it just because there are a few people who wish they would. If that were case there'd be nothing on TV.

Speaking of The View, didn't Sunny Hostin allege that she was racially discriminated against by someone at ABC? I don't watch the show and don't follow it, but I remember hearing something about that last year.

The common denominator has not always been Sharon. If you read the email from Holly Robinson Peete that SO shared, you will see that HRP blamed Julie Chen for their toxic environment at the show and blamed her initially for her firing.  Back then, Leah Remini also blamed Chen, and she blamed Sarah Gilbert for not having their backs when they got fired - she had some choice words to say about SG back then, who was supposedly the exec producer and creator of the show. LR accused SG of knowing everything which was going on behind the scenes, and chose to side with Chen and Osbourne.  Both LR and HRP painted a different picture of their reality than the 'happy sisterhood' they presented to the audience in Season 1 (and still try to do today). Chen and Gilbert are long gone, but it looks like SO has kept up with the toxicity that she, Chen and SG initiated.

Yes, last year there was a story which broke in which an ABC exec said some horrible, racist things towards Sunny. She's was promptly removed from her position, and then fired from ABC. Sunny had her say on the show, and she addressed it eloquently.  This is quite different from having your colleague say such racist things on the show you work on. Again, none of the hosts have ever accused their colleagues or the show's creator (Barbara Walters) of such hateful things.  They have their political differences, for sure, but never attack each other (or others) on race or sexuality.

This show has run it's course, and the ratings this season prove it (I think at times it has dipped below 1 million viewers during this current season).  I'm surprised it has run as long as it did (but then again, the fact that Les Moonves trophy wife was the moderator for so long has everything to do with it).  Time to pull the plug and put it out of it's misery.

With all the 'breaking news' which happened overnight, this was their lead-off discussion that took forever ? Who really cares about Cannon? And if they're going to discuss Cannon (because this is worth talking about?) shouldn't they be covering Sharon Osbourne's situation which has definitely attracted more press ? Geez.....
