I absolutely cannot stand Keira Knightley. I'll admit that part of it is physical, specifically the way she holds her jaw when she talks, like she has lockjaw or something, which drives me nuts. If I thought she was a good actress, maybe I could get past the jaw issue. But other than her one good performance in Bend It Like Beckham, she's been dreadful in pretty much everything I've seen her in, and her presence in a film is pretty much guaranteed to keep me away. (Should she ever make a movie or tv show with a particular semi-obscure Scottish actor of whom I'm inordinately fond, I'd force myself to watch her, but otherwise, just no.

The other women in my office think he's the bomb. I think he's a minimally talented lunkhead, and not attractive in the least. But he's seems like a nice guy, so that's something. Can't stand Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Leonardo diCaprio. Don't think they are attractive at all and don't think they're particularly talented as actors either.

I got stuck trying to make "Control-Alt-Delete" fit somehow. So do I. Having worked in a bookstore for more than a decade (now nearly a decade ago!), I can honestly say I don't remember ever seeing a male author's name on a romance novel. Erotica, now, that's a whole different bag.

Eh, I've read lots of things (took a lot of lit classes in college, although most of those were English lit not American lit), even some Frost maaaaaannnny years ago, and I had no clue. Didn't get Salinger either, but then I've never read anything by him. But missing Virginia Wolfe when "a room of one's own" was in the clue? That seem more egregious to me. Got the Heinz FJ as a guess based on the "57 varieties" slogan, but had not one clue about last night's.
-
I could hear the song in my head, but still took a moment to remember the ship's name. Got it before the buzzer, though. I was more surprised by no one getting the Artful Dodger. I said Jackie Robinson right away for the FJ, then starting second-guessing myself because I thought the date might be too early.

Wow, this pretty much sums up my frustration with Owen, both in general and in this specific episode, perfectly! I was so annoyed with him early on, what with tricking Callie into helping with the project and the whole yelling in the hallway (again) thing. Then came the speech about Cristina, and the fact he was actually talking to someone besides Dr. Wyatt about his feelings, and I couldn't stop watching. Between Kevin McKidd and Justin Chambers, I just can't quit this show, no matter how hard I try.

S21.E08: The Girl Who Says It's Over

They did. Did anyone happen to see what Matthew's breakdown was? I looked up at the screen too late and missed his. -

Well I'm out for the season. I like Lennox, Will and, to my surprise, Shei, but I was really only watching for Matthew. Tyra completely screwed him over. There's no way that the photo she chose for panel was his best; they showed us better poses during the shoot. (Same goes for Shei, actually.) And those scores for Keith and Denzel were totally jacked up. UGH! -
Oops! Forgot about Canada! Despite having been there 3 times and having a good friend who's Canadian at that. <hangs head in shame> Edited to thank Trey for posting the link to the poll article.

Honestly, this episode would've been 100% better if it had just stayed in the shower with Alex.

No, Ellis tried to kill herself in Seattle, and found out she was pregnant then. Alex and Mere saw her medical records when she was admitted to Seattle Grace at the time of the suicide attempt, and the notes clearly said she wasn't aware of the pregnancy until then. Ellis took off to Boston with Mere after being released from the hospital after the suicide attempt, and had Maggie in Boston.

That was a tricksy Final Jeopardy! I fell into the Napoleon trap at first but quickly realized that being born in 1732 would've put him in his 80s at Waterloo so changed to Washington before the music ended. Washington won, thereby causing the British Empire to lose an entire continent. The others (Napoleon, Hitler, Kaiser Wilhelm) all lost eventually.

I knew the basic premise, but had no idea it took place in New Mexico, so nothing in the clue said "Breaking Bad" to me. I answered the Marlboro Man, even though I was sure that wasn't correct. I also thought Don Quixote was easy as hell, and I was really surprised that only one contestant got the right answer. I'd like to say that this means I pay way more attention to books than I do to television, but . . .
-
That's what would've happened to me (well, assuming I'd done well in the earlier rounds) because I have never seen a single second of Breaking Bad, know very little about it and had no idea it took place in New Mexico. I also would never have bet $10,000 on the last Daily Double in the second round when I was that far ahead, but if it had worked on Monday, it would've been a genius bet.

Unless they lived in Cleveland or Miami or were NBA fans, I'd be extremely surprised if anyone knew the name of the Cavaliers coach. And honestly, I couldn't remember who Eric Cantor is. My father worked for the Pennsylvania RR when he was young, and loved everything about railroads. He probably wouldn't have minded me not remembering Boxcar Willie (maybe), but he'd have been disappointed that I couldn't come up with hand car. I did get the arm motions though.

The Escape Artist - General Discussion
proserpina65 replied to photo fox's topic in The Escape Artist
This was mildly diverting, but really, Will's plan to get the killer was just so damned convoluted! All he had to do was let the guy die of anaphylactic shock, set fire to the house and walk away. No one would've known. Was the point to make sure people knew how smart he thought he was? I just didn't get it. -
I agree completely. What was the point, really? I can't figure out why, exactly, they were running this under the "Masterpiece Mystery" banner. Unless the mystery is how they managed to make something with Jack Davenport in it so absolutely unappealing to me.

That was one of the very, very few recent Triple Stumpers which did not surprise me in the least. I suspect most people, even highly educated ones, have never heard of him unless they were specifically interested in the Civil Rights movement. I actually saw the headline for an online article about him yesterday morning, and still wouldn't have know his name from Adam. It's not like he was freaking Margaret Thatcher.

Hell, I absolutely suck at math, and I could add that! (Okay, I knew the answer anyway because I do read a lot about television ratings, but still . . .) These have been some of the lamest contestants lately. Why the hell are they leaving so much money on the board at the end of each round? If you can't pick faster, at least go for the big amounts at the bottom when it gets late in the round.
-
And given their track history, both will probably die of old age before that happens. Which means lots of great Jeopardy games for us to watch.

I, the medieval history major, must shamefully admit to getting Joan of Arc wrong; that I had no idea that GBS had written a play about her is my only excuse, but still . . . Oh, and I guessed about Diamond Head but fortunately got that one correct. Kilauea, I would've known without hesitation, but I hadn't heard or read anything about DH in years so I kind of forgot about it. But at least I got Hitler right, although I did vacillate a little between him and Mussolini. Lately the contestants have really been breaking what is the #1 cardinal Jeopardy rule (imo): Don't freaking leave money on the board - however fast you have to pick categories/clues, clear the damned thing! I know I didn't. My answer was "the bureau of CFPs?" - yeah, those initials meant absolutely nothing to me, but then, politics and government are almost my worst possible categories. They do seem to have been dumbed down quite a bit. (Not all the clues, but a significant enough number of them to make me wonder.) I'll miss those darn Etruscans!

I'll preface this by stating that I'm not a fan of Batman or of shows/movies based on comic books, so I'm definitely not the intended audience for Gotham, and now I know why. I taped the premiere on Monday, and tried to watch it later in the week. After about 15 minutes, I found myself fast-forwarding through everything except Sean Pertwee's scenes, and kept thinking "I must be at the end of this crap by now" and was shocked to discover I wasn't. I'll probably keep taping it for awhile and watch Sean's scenes, but only for someone like him would I slog through this show. He looks more and more like his dad all the time. Except for the hair, of course.

You've obviously never seen the members of the all-volunteer fire companies in my county - they're almost all older, out-of-shape guys, mainly because it's retired guys (and some gals) who can drop everything and answer fire calls at a moment's notice. (I realize that major cities like Boston have professional firefighters, but it's generally a surprise to me when the firefighters on tv are hot.)

Initial reaction: Mediocre cast - There are one or two likeable teams, three totally hateable ones (the orthodontists and their freaky teeth, the obnoxious pro wrestlers and the blonde bimbos - thank goodness they're gone) and mostly 'eh' ones who might improve with time. Location - NYC added nothing to the premiere, but the USVI locations were beautiful, the diving task looked fun to me, and man, that roadblock was a killer. So, to sum up, not the greatest premiere, and I may end up hating all these people (the orthos must die! figuratively speaking of course) but it's AR, and they're going to the UK next week, so I'm in.

Yes, they did, in what was, to me, the best episode of last season, The Midnight Ride (the one with the beheaded Masons). Other than the continued uselessness of Katrina (who can't be too kick-ass without being completely Mary Sue-ish for the 18th century, but still . . .), this was a terrific episode. Can't wait until next week.
