  1. What a stupid woman Shannon is. I watched the episode with the new scenes by fast forwarding to the new scenes which are captioned in red. Shannon and Heather were at the table discussing how Shannon has told everyone about the issues with John and Shannon claims Heather texted her a threat. What the text actually said was I’ve always said this is your story to tell I’ve always advised you that if you don’t tell your story, it might come out in a way you don’t like This was not a threat but a statement of reality Shannon said the first statement was attempting to force her to discuss when the realty was that it was actually assuring Shannon that Heather would not out her Shannon claimed second statement was threatening her that if Shannon didn’t talk about it, then Heather would smear her when the reality is that Heather was stating that when the story hit, it wouldn’t necessarily be telling it in the manner Shannon would like. This is standard PR advice. Get ahead of a story so that you can be first to present it in the way you want rather than having to play catch up.
  2. There are kids who go to commuter colleges because of the cost of living away from home - either in a dorm or in an apartment off campus. However - unless one is going to college in a super expensive place, apartments are generally much cheaper than the total expense of dorms. Beyond the cost of the dorm room, you generally have to be on a relatively expensive food plan which costs more than buying food at the store and cooking it in one's apartment.
  3. Most kids in college don’t live in dorms after freshman year. I lived off campus in an apartment with friends I had specifically chosen and it is a great way to learn independence while still not being completely in one’s own. There are great life skills to be learned like really budgeting, chores, responsibility for bills including utilities.
  4. Frankly I thought the Indiana HH was making a poor decision by buying a huge family house when it appears that her family is almost grown and on the way out. Besides the cost of purchasing a home, it also costs more for utilities and I would assume property tax as well as maintenance in general. And for what purpose - if the kids are launched as adults parents shouldn't want them to remain at home unless there are unusual circumstances. If the kids remain in the area, why would she need bedrooms for them to say in? When I moved out I stayed in the same general vicinity, and so almost never would have stayed overnight at my parents house. Indiana is a relatively low cost of living area so I assume that apartments are affordable unlike some areas like Long Island where apartments are so expensive that it is an economic necessity for some new graduates to move back home. I also thought there might have been an unhealthy dynamic with the girl who was on the hunt - between saying how much she relied on her AND the girl coming back twice a month to visit. I went to college a bit further away than that but it was drivable for a weekend theoretically - but I went back for Thanksgiving, Spring Break and Winter Break. I had zero desire to go back home on the weekend when I could have fun at college and I think my parents were probably relieved to have the house to themselves :-)
  5. The best use of her "abilities" is as a fund raiser and "face" providing promotion for the group. While it is true that lawyers don't "major" in law school, most lawyers do specialize once they start working and criminal law is a specific set of skills and knowledge so Emily would have very limited ability doing the kind of legal work that is needed - even Post Conviction Criminal Law is a subset speciality of law. FWIW, criminal defendants who are convicted and want to appeal often hire lawyers who specialize in appellate law - assuming they actually have the money. What organizations like this need is money in order to pay lawyers and fund office workers to help people.
  6. well in fairness the HH DID let people know that her parents helped her with the down payment and on national television. It isn't as if she was pretending. When younger HH are buying homes they often mention and thank their parents for helping with the down payment because it becomes part of the story line. Or they explain how they managed to come up with the down payment - many of them say they lived with their parents or shared cheap housing because their goal was to save up for a down payment. The reality is that lots of parents help with the down payment. The reason is that they have the money and they would rather give it to their kids now to help with an important financial goal than wait and have the kids inherit it. My parents got help with the down payment from my maternal grandparents and they were just blue collar workers. It is still a major responsibility to own a home versus renting. You are now responsible for property taxes, maintenance and - at least in most areas - the mortgage plus property taxes will be significantly higher than rent would have been. It is a completely different feeling than living a rental where a landlord essentially takes care of everything in exchange for the rent. Homeownership is viewed by most people as something very "exciting" - a big step in life
  7. I don't mind style preferences but FFS at least know what you are asking about or commenting on People want granite or quartz and ask if a counter is granite or quartz People want wood floors and ask if floors are wood People think a single bowl kitchen sink is a farmhouse sink And then there is the overall stupidity - must have a white kitchen but absolutely ignores the terrible layout with no lower drawers and sometimes with the cooktop on the island with no hood for ventilation must have island and ignores island that is squeezed in and makes food prep more difficult because the sink is separated from the refrigerator by the island ETA - Must have double sinks in the master and ignores that the bathroom vanity is small so that the two sinks take up all of the room which effectively makes the bathroom LESS functional.
  8. You know honey oak is kind of classic - what was a flash in the pan were the pickled oak cabinets that were kind of a pink tone.
  9. You can get hardwood floors in a gray stain but typically the gray floors are some form of plastic - either laminate or even the vinyl planks - or as they are called "luxury vinyl". Anyone who buys a home with gray floors at this point is really making an error. They were trendy for awhile which was bad enough but at this point it is the end of the trend.
  10. It is odd but I imagine it has to do with the HOA being responsible for taking care of the "lawns". If they had steps people would probably start placing furniture, grills and other stuff that would make it hard to efficiently mow the lawn, My parents lived in a ground floor condo unit when they retired. They had a very small enclosed area that was tiled like a patio with a very small planter running under the windows. It had a bit of a wrought iron fence to separate it from the bit of lawn that was the true common area. The HOA took care of landscaping that portion and my parents were responsible for their small attached portion.
  11. My post was in terms of why people want open floor plans so they can watch their toddlers. Homes until fairly recently did not have open floor plans so it would be impossible for a parent to watch a child if they were in the kitchen - for example. You could have the child in the living room and know that they weren't going to crawl or get into trouble because they were confined. Obviously they still sell playpens but it appears that many parents want free range children and the ability to watch them at all times which is why you get so many people who talk about the need to watch their children from the kitchen.
  12. I understand the logistics but sometimes the house they chose is really awful functionally. I can deal with outdated but certain things would be a deal breaker like bedrooms on a floor with no bathroom or stairs that are so narrow or low yu have to stoop. I also would never live on the ground floor or a basement level. So I look at the home they chose and think I would have just continued to look because eventually there would have to be something that was a better fit. The other thing I wonder about is when the HH Is looking for a condo and they are shown a unit in a great location but they are shown the penthouse which is bit out of their budget. Why not get a unit on a floor below and then you wouid be on budget.
  13. I think it is really baby and toddler stage because obviously children do play independently unless the parents are helicopter to an extraordinary degree. Years ago the problem was solved because young kids were put in play pens and so the parents didn't need to watch them constantly. Child raising customs have changed and I don't think parents use play pens anymore as a way of not having to be in the same room as a crawling kid or a toddler.
  14. She is imitating Gina’s accent. Capitalizing the misspelling to underscore that it is a joke 😂
  15. I always assume that whenever people move because one person in the marriage has been offered a fantastic job opportunity, that indicates that person is the chief breadwinner because absent very unusual circumstances, you are not going to have the high earner quit their job. Often they mention that both people found jobs or one person can work remotely - which they didn't do in this case. Or it is a situation in which a person is pursuing a graduate degree and so that makes sense in terms of the long term interests of the marriage. I was completely bored by this episode as it seemed even more predictable than usual. Of course they were going to take the first home - they weren't going to take the ranch with the carport or the third home which was "dated". On the general subject of peeves 1) May I never hear another HH praise a stair case because they will be able to take photos of their child coming down it for prom - a subset of this are people who discuss homes in terms of having a window to display a Christmas tree. Of course this was taken to an incredible degree by some lunatic in HHI who had a 14 foot artificial tree shipped to Australia and therefore needed a home with 15 foot ceilings. 2) People who look at a room the size of a closet and state that it is fine for the baby. Babies grow into children and most babies also come with a lot of stuff to be comfortable - typically a changing table or dresser; crib and a comfortable chair for nursing.
  16. No doubt but the weight loss made her less attractive because she looked emaciated and her face was skeletal. She was such a beautiful woman and her body was gorgeous.
  17. I just saw the show - Luanne doesn't really say much - at least in the edit. But she is painfully thin. She was always slender and had an enviable figure but she was never unrealistically emaciated looking. Her face is really gaunt.
  18. There had to be some unknown factor for the Philly couple to opt for that awful place. The only explanation is that they needed to be reasonably close to the schools the kids were going to - she had mentioned moving closer to their school district. The basement would be difficult to convert into a safe bedroom for a kid. I think a family of five would have issues with one toilet. You can schedule baths and showers and limit time in the bathroom for washing faces and brushing teeth but it really is difficult to deal with kids needing the toilet - or even adults. Even a powder room with toilet and sink makes it much easier. The guy was delusional in terms of what he would be able to DIY. Plumbing and electrical work for a bathroom needs to be done by someone who is licensed and experienced which is why bathrooms and kitchens are expensive to remodel or to add. And equally delusion - although obviously they didn't buy the home - was to think you could just add a room - albeit a sun room to a home and DIY. Even elevated decks are tricky because they need to tie into the home in terms of waterproofing. But a "room" is a whole other thing thing.
  19. I am going to have to rewatch the consignment shop scene because I didn't see the LV she bought until the receipt was on the screen - and I wonder which LV it was. Some of the authentic discontinued styles are quite pricey like the Sprouse bags and even the original Murakami collaboration aka the Multicolor bags. On the subject of bags, last season there was a lot of discussion about Crystal's $80,000 Birkin 20 which looked like a house with windows. I am on a mailing list for the super high end Hermes replicas (the ones that start at $2000 and go up from there) and they had a replica of the bag for I think about $2500.
  20. I went to the website and I still don’t understand how she generates income. I assumed she would actually be selling an extensive line of home decor items as well as offering design services. There was literally only a few items of clothing which seemed to be actually sold by other websites There just be some source of money that isn’t mentioned. The husband said he was a life style photographer and I can’t imagine that is a huge niche.
  21. To be fair I don't think Che has had any real money to be smart about. I think the series would have been her shot at making real money. Even a pilot - even though it pays more than episodic pay wouldn't be super lucrative - after deducting agency fees; manager fees; taxes and whatever. I don't think Carrie regretted her abortion in her 20's. None of the women I know who had abortions when they were at the stage of their life with random people regretted their abortions or ever second guessed their decisions. There is nothing to suggest that Carrie was infertile or that having or not having children wasn't a conscious decision. If Big built her that closet I am reasonably certain he would have been fine with having a child with her if that was what something she pined for. With his money, it wouldn't even have crimped their life style although they would have been rich married with children like Charlotte.
  22. I truly don't understand the enmeshed relationships these teenagers have with their parents. I don't have a problem with Charlotte not freaking out because her daughter is having sex - seems to be a high school junior. I just don't find it believable that the daughter would announce plans to be deflowered at breakfast nor do I think a kid would call their mother for condoms. Also if Charlotte knew her daughter was planning on being sexually active, I am 100% certain she would have taken her to the doctor for the pill because condoms are only effective when used properly and I wouldn't trust kids to be 100% careful in the moment. But I also found the idea of Brady calling his mother for emotional support because he broke up with his girlfriend in Europe to be ludicrous.
  23. I grew up in Brooklyn when even the Von Kemps wouldn't have set foot there. I went to school in Manhattan from 7th grade and I was seriously embarrassed about where I grew up/was living and would kind of cough when asked. It is astounding to me how gentrified Brooklyn has come.
  24. Isn't that the point of the franchise - especially New York and Beverly Hills which are supposed to be about the lifestyles of the rich and fabulous. If anything franchises like Orange County are banal because the people are wannabes and so they only thing they bring is boring fake drama. Bring on the housing and clothing porn - the shoe closets.
  25. To be fair Potomac is mentioned frequently and has even been a storyline several times. Who lived there and who didn’t. Potomac was originally supposed to be about women living in this enclave who were part of the whole Jack and Jill social group. Karen’s shtick first season was that she was the doyenne and social arbitrator of this group Now that the group pretty much doesn’t live in Potomac, geography isn’t mentioned.
