  1. I understand why they wanted to do a public service type of thing. However the same point could be made without being completely inaccurate. Other shows have dealt with the issue by having veterans without alternative good health insurance have consequences because of falling through the cracks or otherwise having problems with the VA system. Not that I begrudge police officers or other government employees, but health insurance benefits are one of the reasons people opt for jobs as often they have lower pay checks than they could earn in other private fields. My parents were both worked for a large city and their benefit package was good - especially so in terms of retirement with pensions as well as medical care in retirement being paid for.
  2. I am enjoying my journey through Say Yes - am currently in the middle of Season 4. I remember a very few of the brides but some I did. Yesterday there was the extremely sour twin sister who eventually came to the dressing room and told the bride to wrap it up because everyone had other places to be. And the extremely 'picky" bride who eventually confessed that she had found a dress for under $1000 in New Jersey. Randy was a bit miffed by the duplicity since he felt that if she had been honest at the beginning they could have shown her gowns that might have been contenders at a low price point. Ironically the dress in the photo shown look hideous. There was a bride in a wheel chair for whom Kleinfeld's had done a special train that attached to the back of the chair. It was lovely and bride looked lovely. Dress was chosen and altered to look good in the chair while seated. There was the bride who was getting married in India where you sit on a couch and so she needed the dress long enough to cover her shoes while on the couch. I like these earlier episodes as they seem more organic and not people who are obviously doing crazy shtick to be on the show. ETA And I hadn't realized Dorothy was that large when I saw the early episodes originally. She was generally in the background and since a lot of the women wore smock like clothing in black it really wasn't that obvious in those shows. Congratulations to her.
  3. Except that he is a police officer in a major city and would have very good health insurance which he would use. My father was eligible for VA health care but generally used his "regular" insurance he got through work because it was more convenient and less bureaucratic. He used VA for hearing aids which weren't covered by his "regular" insurance and then for some expensive medication which was free through the VA if prescribed by VA doctors.
  4. Diana got a lot of "hate" because of her upselling dresses but kudos to her because that is part of being a sales person.
  5. Claudia was a classic example of the Dunning–Kruger effect which is the tendency of people with low ability in a specific area to give overly positive assessments of this ability. She couldn't accept any corrections because in her mind she was excellent in all areas and it was the managers who were wrong. And to the extent she was failing, it was because she was being given brides who had no intention of purchasing. What isn't clear is whether the customers are allocated to consultants randomly or whether high performing consultants are given more likely prospects.
  6. If you google there are quite a few pictures. I don't know if it is a vanity project but I am sure she inherited enough to finance anything she wants. I think the line is Kimberly Taylor but if you google Kimberly Gindi you can look at it.
  7. I don't know if anyone else remembers a bride from Season 2. She had ordered a custom Pnini dress for about $20,000 and when it came in she hated it because the cups were opaque. They were desperate to keep her happy so she bought an alternative Pnini for $28,000 but evidently they had reduced the price so it was midway between the $18,000 and the $28,000. It had a beautiful full lace skirt which she hated and wanted it taken of so the skirt was just tulle. Her father was there and tried to convince her to keep the lace but eventually he just shrugged and it was removed and she said it would be made into a shawl for the ceremony. As it turns out the family is fabulously wealthy - why they were not getting an haute couture gown is a mystery. Her grandfather had founded the Century 21 chain but the family had also done extremely well in real estate and were no worth about $5 Billion Ironically she now is a designer of relatively refined "quiet" clothing https://hauteliving.com/2019/08/one-on-one-new-york-entrepreneur-kimberly-gindi/673162/
  8. There was a gradual transition in terms of Randy but at least up Episode 9 of Season 2 he is making very limited appearances and the only one in which he had significant air time was when he almost killed the appointment by bringing in the dress he thought the bride should wear based on her shape. He was tactful by saying it was meant for a "taller" woman but he was right as she was somewhat barrel shaped and wanted one of those dresses which are tight down to the very low hipline and those - in my opinion really are not the greatest for a women with a thick middle.
  9. In some ways I liked the early seasons. They evolved so the difference is striking in terms of the original concept of "back stage" view There were less insane situations of brides who were clearly willing to do anything for the 15 minutes of fame. The brides were very much from the area and were the demographic who would be buying at Kleinfelds as there is absolutely no reason for anyone from metropolitan area in the US to fly to New York to purchase a dress. I am no on Season 2 where Randy makes his first appearance and he is being portrayed as a bit of an intruder AND someone who is actually an employee and not infallible. Out of curiosity I went to the Kleinfeld site and you now can pay extra to upgrade your experience. For $250 you get just the VIP experience with a 3 hour appointment plus a larger dressing room for up to 4 guests - regular appointments are 90 minutes and only allow three guests. For $1000 you can purchase the Platinum Experience with Champagne and snacks plus a "senior" bridal stylist. They no longer shoot the show during normal hours so I guess there would be no more shots of other brides in the background
  10. MAX streams all seasons and so out of curiosity I started watching from the first season. Lea, the "modest" consultant was in the first episode and dressed an Orthodox bride. I think the reason why many Orthodox brides might go to Kleinfeld rather than have a custom dress is because they need the gowns quickly and the consultant said that she knows which designers can have a gown modified and delivered in a short time frame - probably those are in New York. The show was a bit different as it was much less formulaic and much more a "reality" show about a bridal salon.
  11. I thought this was a blah episode Maybe because I lack a scintilla of spirituality so it is hard for me to understand why someone - especially in 1970 - would become a nun when there are so many nuns leaving their orders and numbers were declining. One would think Shelagh would have been part of the storyline since she was someone who left the Order and still leads a life devoted to service to others. I don't have issues with the interracial relationship because the reality was that there were interracial marriages in 1970 although they would have their difficulties. Joyce the nurse explicitly dealt with those concerns. Call The Midwife has always been a bit of a "feel good" show even when dealing with hard issues. Reggie - in my opinion - is equally a unicorn in terms of the kind of facilities available in the 1960's. Not complaining as I accept the somewhat treacle stuff as a way to relax - better than a Xanax as for the most part good is rewarded and bad generally doesn't rise to the top and the outcomes are generally resolved in a way that leaves one with a sense of progress.
  12. They had an Orthodox Jewish bride in one of the early seasons but this is the first in in at least a decade. I imagine even those who are buying at Kleinfelds are not willing to be depicted on a television show since it actually would be viewed as not tzunias (modest) to be broadcast. While most Orthodox Jewish women do cover their hair, there are some Modern Orthodox women who don’t and it didn’t appear that the bride’s mother covered as her curly hair was not a wig.
  13. I think tossing the Banchan was up there with the episode years ago when the spare ribs were left out overnight and had to be tossed. As I recall this was the Finale and so there was one of the eliminated contestants who had come back to be the sous. I expected Katianna to be gone because it wasn't just the porridge which did sound wretched. As soon as she added the tofu I thought WTF and no one wants cold tofu added at the last moment to a sauce. And the judges also said there really wasn't any "pickle" element as it was basically a cucumber dish and the elements didn't come together. So poorly conceived and poorly executed. I think the short rib and the sauce was probably delicious and the comment about the meat not being super tender was a quibble. As I recall one of the judges said they were happy to eat the short ribs versus Katianna's dish which they all seemed to find unappetizing.
  14. I wouldn’t call it R&B as I think of that genre as being much more dynamic and not background easy listening. Maybe it’s just incredibly mediocre music because it seems so bloodless and generic
  15. Drew was attempting to claim that royalties DENNIS made from producing Drew's music would pay for Pilar's (the daughter or Dennis and Porsha) college tuitions. That is why Shamea rolled her eyes at it being a ridiculous attempt to make it appear as if it was a very positive thing for Porsha instead of an attempt to exploit the situation. No shade to Shamea because she actually seems to have a very good voice - even when not auto-tuned. But is there actually a market for this kind of music which seems incredibly boring. Low key vocals - not particularly emotionally moving lyrics - and the music itself seems generic and like elevator music. What is this genre - is it considered "easy listening" which is a category I despise in all genres.
  16. The Tan show is still on my DVR so I will watch it. I tend to watch stuff on my streamers because it is easier I liked him on Queer Eye in terms of his fashion sensibility and his demeanor. This episode of Say Yes was particularly boring since it was all about the boring back stories and seemed particularly fake. I mean god bless Dorothy but I don't believe for a nano-second that the second designer dress was not something that had been decided upon before and the wedding of the couple was particularly ridiculous. The weddings in the prior seasons are only tolerable because they are short AND because it is interesting to see how the bride looked in full regalia with her hair and makeup done.
  17. The new episode was a complete snoozer. God bless Dorothy but obviously the second dress with the new designer was staged - that she would fall in love with a dress and have it fit her more or less. And the completely planned wedding at Kleinfelds - do they think people are so gullible as to believe everyone was surprised and that a dress which fit and flattered a large pregnant woman hadn't been tried on prior to the filming day? I haven't watched the Tan show which my DVR recorded but I will try it. Oddly the show didn't air on the appropriate streaming service so I was lucky that my trusty DVR recorded it.
  18. I am amazed that this has gotten so much media attention I saw the trial on either 20/20 or Dateline and it wasn't one of the more fascinating cases I have watched. As I recall I thought she was guilty and should have been convicted but not of murder but of something equivalent to negligent homicide. A plea deal plus a reduced sentence would probably have meant she would have been out of jail by this time Has she received significant money from sources? Gofundme or other donations? I know that theoretically news media isn't supposed to pay for interviews but typically they get around this by paying a lot of money to use photos or other stuff or to film in one's home.
  19. 10 Episodes is standard for streaming services and some are only 8 I subscribe to Acorn and Britbox and their series are sometimes less than 10 for a "season" These are typically UK, Australian or NZ. The British ones seem to have very short "seasons" although some of the older "traditional" ones might be 13.
  20. New York Magazine had an extended interview with Casey Boys who is Chairman and CEO of HBO and MAX Content. They very deliberately wanted to create something that was more equivalent to a network type of show but with the kind of content that is more "streamer" like. So there are deliberately 15 episodes instead of the standard 10. The budget while obviously not cheap was intended to enable them to do 15 episodes versus the kind of extremely expensive programming like Game of Thrones - which obviously also has its place. They also deliberately are going to operate with a hiatus that is more typical of network with the new season dropping in December instead of several years from now. https://www.vulture.com/article/the-pitt-max-casey-bloys-interview.html?_gl=1*16zn6a4*FPAU*MzM2OTQwMzAyLjE3Mzc0MDczOTU.*_ga*MTgyNjM1OTMxMC4xNzQzMDMwNzA5*_ga_DNE38RK1HX*MTc0MzY5NTIxMy40LjEuMTc0MzY5NjI3Ni4wLjAuMTg3NzEyNzkzMA..*_fplc*cyUyQkhaTlQxUzRWUnRVJTJCME1YRzBOJTJGekw1eHRlRXhDRU1IZ09PJTJGN0RGSWdlZDM3blZVTVhxNnpNUVB0d01uaWxOdmtGNE03ZEpnYVlLeTBHd2REUEZEbjZYWmwwUjZTRUFGT2h1QXNYTnRrQ1VlT1pTdFlkajdDZCUyQnFjb2pIZyUzRCUzRA..
  21. I don't think it is manufactured but like almost all of the beefs and feuds with the housewives it has almost nothing to do with the "beef" but everything to do with the hierarchy and power struggle between the cast in terms of money, exposure and control of story line. And that is why these beefs are generally the most ridiculous and boring parts of all of the franchises. I mean who in their right mind thinks that Dennis is someone anyone would hire as an Executive Producer for their music. So it isn't organic because Drew created this ridiculous storyline for drama rather than because she actually would hire someone like Dennis with no musical expertise to be her Executive Producer.
  22. I don’t get this genre of music. At least from what I have heard on the show neither woman has a particular striking voice and so they sound generically bland and the music and accompaniments just sounds like forgettable elevator type music. The style seems so insipid and uninspired.
  23. That was what I didn't understand in terms of her "strategy". I would imagine she could have made some kind of incredibly elevated version of a cold soup incorporating eggs. Completely different cuisine but my favorite gazpacho recipe has a very runny egg that is macerated with raw garlic. I am the furthest thing from a top chef or a top baker but as soon as I saw her attempting to "wing" it with the cake batter I knew she was loomed because you can't wing it with cakes as they rely are more of a chemical project. You can tinker with flavors so long as you are sure that the ingredients you are using to flavor would have the same chemical interactions as what the standard ingredients would have. But ultimately that is what separates a very good chef from being the competitive chef who rises to the challenge. And there have been winners - or at least people who made it to the finals who didn't immediately lead the pack and played it safe but they generally didn't outright fail and the results were generally tasty. Often they were admonished to step their creativity towards the middle as the pack got smaller.
  24. I think Avi is along because it is essentially a freebee to bring him since he is on salary anyway and he is essentially being given a vacation in a resort since he is not going to be spending much time actually working - maybe he unpacks and packs but other than that he would be free to just be a tourist. If he appears on the show he might even be a tax write off. In terms of tax deductions, performers can write off "special" stuff that is used only for performances. It might also explain why the makeup/hair people are shown on camera so much - they might be a tax write off when they style them for filming AND they probably also give them credit in the social media posts. I think I might be an outlier because I have absolutely no desire to look at photos of strangers posing in various places so the idea of spending time perusing "content" created by reality star Is beyond me and I find all of the phones being taken out to "record" what is happening to be ludicrous - at parties there are generally people who are filming stuff happening - I don't need to tape mermaids in a pool or other events at a party.
  25. Because it provides her with what she thinks is a more permanent spot. If she didn't align with Dorit what would her story be? The ridiculous idiocy of two middle aged people wanting to have a child - I fast forward through all of that absurdity. She doesn't want a child and I very much doubt Kelly does either - if he did he would find a woman in their 30's and not someone who needs IVF and probably would be advised not to even attempt pregnancy given her history and age. She must have more of a brain and good sense than she is showing and there are even glimpses of it at time - like when she she told Dorit there was an apology. At that point one could see her leading a large company/department and being a shrewd manager and evaluator of people.
