S02.E05: Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est
Loandbehold replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
I disagree. Rape is about power and Rachel made it perfectly clear that Paul didn't have any power. She had him poor two glasses of wine, then wouldn't let him drink a glass. She told him exactly what she wanted him to do and wouldn't let him do anything else. And, she reminded him about Afghanistan. (I don't recall if that last point happened earlier in the episode, but, even if it did, he knows he is under Rachel's thumb.) I loved this episode. We learned a lot of different things, which, in keeping with this show, led to more questions. And, as others have said, all the male characters, with the exceptions of Art and Brother-seestra Felix, have unknown alternative motivations for their actions. I believe Art is who he says he is - just a cop. So, I am forced to consider the possibility that Felix is the ultimate man behind the curtain. Maybe his name is really Abraham. I'm being facetious, but with this show, you can't know for sure. Helena was awesome for all the reasons others have said, and I just loved the look on Art's face when Sarah and Helena walked past him with their arms around each other. And, before that, Art frisking Helena when Felix brought her to his house and finding the pen. Yeah, don't leave anything sharp or pointed around our avenging angel. Basically, Art and Helena can go on the road together as a spin-off. And now, I have to ask myself, who is "Cal"? He has a camper in another name (and not the only other name) as a go-bag. Has anyone ever had as much chemistry with herself than Tatiana? I am always stunned by those clone interaction scenes, but especially the ones between Sarah and Helena. -
1 hour 9 minutes to Orphan Black Episode 5!

Yet another saying to go on one of our t-shirts. We'll have to re-name our collection now that the MM is no more. Literary Annotations? Have fun this weekend @KPC. If you and your friend's siblings got together, could you buy her a gas-guzzling lemon? It's the gag gift of the 21st Century.

Hey, I'm also a NY Rangers fan, so had to wait for 38 years, which was my entire life up to that point, for a Stanley Cup. Trust me, I'm used to frustration. Still, even I recognize how difficult it must be to be a Cubs fan.

What happened to the girl Paige met on the bus that got her interested in the church group in the first place? If we ever saw her again, I guess she could be Paige's newest bestie.

Well, if we're talking aliens, I would assume it's Area 51. But, if we're talking THE discoteque of the 1970s, it would be Studio 54. We already have the mirror ball from that place, so why not put the entire warehouse in both that place and time. Just think of Artie dressed as Tony Manero.

It's tough to be a Mets fan. You learn all sorts of things about intestinal fortitude, delusions of grandeur tinged with a healthy dose of realistic skepticism. And, everytime they start to play better, something happens (like Gee going on the DL). So, I wouldn't expect them to get past the Braves. Still @AnnieF, you gotta believe!

Boliver, I am so jealous of your tandem skydive jump. I've only done a static line jump (so technically not free fall), but it was incredible. I also didn't tell my parents until after I safely landed. And, you're right, the person you're jumping with has just about as much incentive for the jump to go well as you do, so you and Silver!Kid sit back and enjoy the ride.

I'm a little late to the party, but I hope all the moms had a great day today.

Absolutely, @KPC. I'm a little disappointed that there aren't a lot of Elton John fans here, since we were discussing Saturday night songs.
-
Re my last post - only 1-1/2 hour nap this afternoon. I don't know if that means I'm feeling spry, or that I have afternoon insomnia. As it's a Saturday night [insert song lyric here], I'm here to remind everyone that it is 1;45 minutes until episode 4 of Orphan Black. I was able to convert my cousin, who, despite saying that he didn't have the time to watch another show, tore through season 1 and the first three episodes of this season this week.

There has to be a worst episiode of every tv show, and this one is it. Sorkin at his most treacly. I'm just glad that Danny solved the homeless problem and all it took was one half of a turkey sandwich.

Bastet, if you feel like it, why don't you spread it out for us in a nutshell.

Weekend will be a typical Saturday - morning errands, followed by working out and a two-hour afternoon nap. What can I say people, I'm an old man. Sunday, I'll go see mom. Normally, after reviewing her mail (especially bills), seeing if she's taking her pills, and has enough food in the house, we go out for brunch at a diner. The waitstaff there are extremely nice, although it's rare that they get our entire order right. But, since it's Mother's Day, I'm going a step up and taking mom out for either Chinese or Japanese. Then, I go home and take a two-hour nap. 'Cause I'm an old man. Good luch with the inspections, @AnnieF. And the dog-sitting @Earl Is Dead. Hooray for work, @KPC and, hopefully, your ends will get tighter (tight-ish?) soon.

Big new job vibes, @Harvester!

As for worrying about Marth quitting, in a prior episode, he convinced her not to take another job in the FBI. Presumably, that position is now filled. So, she has nowhere else to go. As Joystickenvy said, how that she's staying, he needed her to continue spying on them for him.

@AnnieF, that's fantastic news! I'm sorry to hear that @Endeavor. I've got the same situation with my mom. Please don't hesitate to come here and blow off steam when you have one of "those" days dealing with your mom. While I was hoping for a better morning, weather-wise, softball went well. My team won big both games and I hit like I rarely have before. Some people were accusing me of taking some additional help.I promised to have my own tests done by my own lab, and will furnish everyone with a report written by those I have hired. (A little Chris Christie riff.)

I never knew that. I used to differentiate baby sitting for my niece and nephew from times when I was just playing and hanging out w/ them, which I called "uncling." T-1 hour 12 minutes until episode 3 of OB.

My deepest condolences on your loss Littlevoice. And, vibes to @buffyjunkie, @harrie, and KPC. And, I'll throw in some for @Erratic, who will likely need them, by my count, sometime next week. Good luck on the house bid, AnnieF. Edited b/c sometimes the "@name works, and sometimes it doesn't.

Sorry to hear about your fil, buffyjunkie. You're in my thoughts.

While his jealousy definitely played a part, Xander also had good reason to hate Angel/Angelus. In School Hard, Angel serves Xander up to Spike on a silver platter with his "let's share him" ploy(?). And, in BB&B, Angelus pulls Xander out of Buffy's second story window and tries to kill him. So, two attempts on Xander's life gives him good cause to hate Angel in my book. He also had to shame Angel into going to the Master's lair to try to help Buffy. And, let us not forget that Angel is jealous of Xander as well. Xander is 17, Angel is 240. I would expect Angel to be the more mature one.

Harvester, I believe Miss Manners would say that you should "pay it forward." I know that I could use a large screen HDTV. Just a suggestion. Or, you know, go the safe, boring (and totally reasonable) route of buying your sister dinner, or a little more expensive gift the next time such an opportunity presents itself.

[PSA] Two hours and 8 minutes to the next episode of OB. [/PSA]

I didn't bother voting, but it has to be someone who knew about Alec's lab. I don't remember if Julian knows about it. If he does, then either he or one of his followers could have done it. If not, then I don't see why any of them would have been there. Of course, they could have followed Keira there, but it's very dangerous to follow a seasoned cop around - especially after your group held her hostage. I would have a difficult time believing that they were able to "get the drop on her."

That scene surprised me in another way. I expected there to be a small window that Sarah notices, and the next thing is Prolethian guy breaking down the door and seeing the window ajar. Of course, he wouldn't be able to get through it. I've seen that scene dozens of time. In fact, we saw that scene in last year's finale - it was how Helena got out of the basement when the cops came. This time, as seamusk and others have pointed out, we get to see another example of Sarah's street smarts at work in getting through the weakened wall.
