Masterchef (US) - General Discussion

I don’t like group cooking challenges, for the same reasons I hate working in teams. You always have the leader who doesn’t know how to lead and the person who believes he/she should be the boss screwing up the whole team. The “I told you so” or “I knew that everything was wrong “ person. -

Micah has to choose wisely, Dorian, Sarah or Jamie, because they seem to be his strongest rivals in MC. But..... what if if the producers are just cutting whenever Shuba cooks good things? Today Sarah admitted that he didn’t do good in team challenges. in MC 6 Claudia was considered the weakest rival. She was saved from elimination challenges because she was not considered a true threat....but she ended up winning the contest. -

I remember that one, he was David. In an earlier episode the runner up, Line, decided. to save herself and everybody was giving her a hard time. Later David didn’t save himself when he could and he was almost sent home during elimination. Eventually David would win MC Canada 2. MC Canada 2 was one of the best MC editions I’ve ever watched. MC Canada 3 was rubbish. -

The problem of being a vegan in a food contest and just cooking strictly vegan food is that you are limiting too much the choices of your plates. I have had excellent meatless dishes, but I don’t think I could eat them forever. -

The show is very heavily edited and of course, they try to keep the stereotypes of southern and midwestern regular Joes and Janes who don’t know how to cook sophisticated foods. Even if they win in the contests to the “cosmopolitan” cooks. It it is like in MC junior, it gets tired to hear these kids telling the audience that they have sophisticated palpated because their parents take them to the best restaurants. -

Noah may have said he was overweight, but I don’t remember, probably he just mentioned the first day of the contest. At least he doesn’t try to use as a tool with the jury. Some people try to use the sad stories in MC to get sympathy, such as this is my only/last opportunity... really? Last time I watched MC Spain, it was embarrassing to watch too many candidates trying to use the “abuela” (grandma) story to get into the contest. -

In my hometown he has rescued a couple of places and the owners said later to the local press that Taffer was very nice off camera, he just yelled for the show. -

I just watch it as a comedy, not to take it seriously. i miss the educational parts and sometimes I feel that chef Burrell has to win, no matter what, but is still watchable. -

Sometimes I think that the producers are showing as Shuba in the same light they showed Claudia in season 6. She was even saved of elimination challenges because people felt she was not a real competitor. Sometimes I miss Christina “did I told you I am a baker” Tosi, specially when writers give Aaron the lamest lines in the show. Gordon doesn’t seem too mean this season, but maybe because my idol, the hot Joe Bastianich is there. -

I I understand your concern, contestants can make mistakes under that kind of pressure. in the other hand we never know how it was edited. When I have watched Chopped in the food network I have noticed that the time warnings sometimes are not synchronized with the action in the kitchen. You hear a two minutes warning and somebody just throws something in the pan. -

I think Sarah believed it was easier to make and when she tried it, she discovered she had to do some kind of special frosting. After that almost everything went wrong. -

I don’t dislike any of the remainder contestants, but I am rooting for people like Jamie or Shari, hard working, quiet types. I have met a few people people like Dorian, nice when everything is Ok but ready to throw you under the bus when something is wrong. But she is not a villain compared to other contestants from past editions. I liked Wuta, but he seemed to have an excuse for everything. I am also glad the snotty New Yorker who knew everything is gone, but I still feel this is probably the mildest, PC edition in the history of MC USA. -
I liked the couple from Miami, one of the few ones whose comments were kind of professional and they knew what they wanted... except when they wanted to convert a garage in a media room for his daughters.🤔

It is heartbreaking to see how some people take advantage of people who genuinely loves them. Erica is been used and the worst thing is that she may become dependent on AJ.

It is easy to screw up in a difficult/very technical plate, but Renee was able to fail when she cooked a cheesecake and a meatloaf. Anytime the producers focus on somebody telling at the beginning of the challenge how good they are in that particular dish is usually a recipe for disaster. Except for Shari and the macarons, of course. -

His office is situated in an affluent neighborhood in Houston. In fact there is a Whole Foods supermarket across the street. Sometimes can be seen in the show. -
Too many. I can’t remember the name now, a woman who made her girlfriend travel to Houston to take care of her and then basically dumped her when she was feeling better. Just remembered, Annjeannette.

Whataburger beats most restaurants in any southern town. -
When you watch more episodes you notice the producers usually try to present the victims in a positive way, even if they had committed offenses before.

My bet for the next programs: Next eliminated: Bri, Nick, Micah and Suhba. Group of main players, but they will be eliminated almost at the end, when the contest doesn’t need any more drama: Dorian, Noah and Sarah. Underdogs who may go to the final: Jamie, Fred, Shari. i feel that MC US likes underdogs like Claudia in MC 2016. Renee and Bri shared something in common, the difference between what they say they could cook and the disappointing results at the end. I agree that she may be using the crying thing to hide her mistakes, but I also found manipulative that several contestants try to use the pity card, trying to convince the judges and audience that being in MC is their only/last opportunity. I was reading about former contestants and a good number of them don’t work in the food business anymore. Never seen the Bachelorette show, but one of the reasons I stopped watching Top chef was the viciousness of both judges and contestants. -

Penny was mean, but her food was better than most of the contestants in any edition of the next food network star. I have observed in different forums that women who are considered good looking usually receive the harshest criticism by some viewers, even when they have a correct behavior with other contestants during the show. I remember Ana Quincoces in the next food network star for example. -

I won’t hold against Gordon Ramsey not having a position as iron Chef in his resume. I stopped watching that program because the “iron chefs” where grossly favored by the judges. I wish they had tried the food in a blind testing. It was great to see Mark Dacascos again. She said she baked them every week at home. -

The concept of tapas in a restaurant is to be able to try different foods at the same time. In Spain people usually have a small drink (wine or beer) with each tapa. I still remember what an older Spanish cook told me about tapas: they should be salty, fatty and spicy (with spices, not crappy hot sauces), because the beverages are the big moneymakers in a bar. -

For group challenges: never, ever pick the so called best contestants. They usually don’t know how to work as a team. i remember MC Canada and in the second season a guy didn’t pick the “best” cooks to cater a wedding. When he was asked why he had done that he just grinned and answered: “because these guys are going to kill each other in their team”. He was right, they went to elimination. -

I am glad Renee is gone. She couldn’t cook some of the easiest dishes.
