  1. Some people speculate that Goliath had a condition such as acromegaly, which would make him less powerful than he looked. I never heard that he had Gath though.
  2. If you're not sure how to pronounce asterisk, say "I only regret that I have but one * for my country." If it doesn't make sense, you're pronouncing it incorrectly.
  3. Should we keep track of asterisks this season? (Asterisk means all 3 contestants got FJ wrong but we got it right.)
  4. Reminder: If you miss an episode, The "What was Final Jeopardy? I missed it!" Thread has several links for FJ clues. I like https://thejeopardyfan.com/category/recaps It gives the clue and plenty of spoiler space before the answer.
  5. What languages does Sheldon speak or read? He said in BBT that he learned Hindi at age 9 (this has not been mentioned in YS), and in BBT he tried to learn Mandarin, rather unsuccessfully. In the Science Bowl episode he said his Spanish was not good ("This is either her son or her butcher.") I don't recall German or other languages. Howard has several languages.
  6. Although they must have wanted to, sometimes. I sometimes mix up Sheldon's backstory with that of Charlie on Numb3rs. IIRC, Charlie went away to college quite young. His mother went with him, and his father and older brother stayed home.
  7. My avatar has no pants, nor any place to wear them. :-)
  8. Article: Gregory House and Sherlock Holmes connections
  9. The episode description included "Andy rescues one of Dylan's students from a legal bind." What happened to that plot line?
  10. The new season starts September 9?
  11. It should have pulled up a PDF. There is nothing at the top of the first page so you need to scroll down.
  12. The story is "The Empty House." Holmes wears a disguise ...
  13. What did you think of Elementary when it started? I liked the characters, but calling them Holmes and Watson just seemed like a cheap way of getting viewers for a show that differed from canon in several important ways. (Sherlock aired at about the same time.) With time, though, Elementary became one of my favorite shows.
  14. Are we sure that was really Sherlock? Maybe it was Clyde in a good sneaky Sherlock disguise.
  15. Saber, thank you for my prize, Secret Lives of U.S. Presidents. It just arrived. I look forward to reading it so that next season, when FJ questions are about POTUSes, I can ... well, I can be extra embarrassed if I miss them.
  16. Arthur was named after Arthur Conan Doyle, of course. Some names from canon, including Ronald Adair and Sigerson. Where was Clyde?
  17. There does not seem to be a forum for "Family Pictures USA" on PBS. I saw and enjoyed the first episode, North Carolina. The host talks with people who show family photos (some quite old), talk about their ancestors, and show where they lived and worked.
  18. Andy -- if you don't want to look like a Ukranian arms dealer, either shave or grow a beard.
  19. You made me wonder if a Russian tortoise can swim. According to the vast wisdom of the interweb, he cannot. So if Clyde was out there, I hope he found a safe place from which to direct the maneuvers.
  20. Two opposite poles of magnets (north and south) attract, not repel. Did anyone else expect that they would do a DNA test to ID Moreland's body, and it wouldn't match Sherlock? Then Sherlock could wonder if the body wasn't Moreland, or if Moreland wasn't his father. Altamont was an alias that ACD Sherlock Holmes used in "His Last Bow."
  21. So would I. Maybe she is running some organization and the government needs to consult her.
  22. Looking back ... why did they call this show Instinct, when it is based on Dylan's knowledge? Also why do they spell INSTINCT with the second N backwards? Sounds as if they are imagining a semiliterate person guessing that what Dylan says is based on instinct, not knowledge.
  23. Neuroscientist Jim Fallon's TED talk Exploring the mind of a killer reminded me of Dylan.
  24. Moreland might have a body double, or access to a corpse that could be identified as him.
