  1. IIRC, Sam saw the pillar of light and said that someone had, uh, ascended.  The ghosts did not appear to know until she told them.  Maybe the pillar of light was caused by something else, and none of the ghosts are actually gone?

  2. Last night Stephen was unhappy that a big news story was expected today, when there is not a new LSSC scheduled for tonight.  What would it take to produce a new show with a day or two notice?  Probably not every staff member would be able to participate, but some could (given extra overtime pay).

  3. Yes, I suspect the desk is for the judges.

What can the contestants see during the game?  They can see the big board, although at an angle.  Where can they see everyone's score, and where is the screen for video clues?  Maybe the podia have little screens?

  4. As for what jobs women can do, on one episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Mary and a friend tried to think of jobs only men can do.  They came up with only two: sperm donor and female impersonator.

  5. At first I didn't think Audrey was really breaking up with Gerald. But he clearly thought she was. If she really only wanted to delay getting together, she could have clarified, but she didn't.

Smokey was a pretty calf. Jersey? Male calves did not necessarily get so much care, so maybe they planned for him to be a breeding bull. If so, I hope he would be more successful than the bull a couple of seasons back (Clive?).

  6. Week 22: 2/5 + 1*.  Tuesday I got as far as Kurt but that doesn't count.  Wednesday I was sure it was the Great Pyramid because it originally had a shiny cap.  Country music is not my category but "I" got this one.

  7. FJ:  I have not read "Heart of Darkness" but I know a little German so I said Kurt, which might be someone's name.  On the grounds of pronunciation I assume that it would not be ruled correct.

  8. Why did they name Margaret's husband Donald Penobscot?  From what we heard about his family, they were upper crust New Englanders who might tolerate the Winchesters.  But Penobscot is the name of a Native American people, whose homeland is in Maine but who would not have the snooty attitude that Donald's family did.  It sounds to me as if the writers chose a New Englandish name but didn't do their homework.

Why did I think Trapper was from Boston?

There was a line (maybe in the movie?).  Trapper was silent but someone else said, "He's from Boston and he was drafted."

  10. Eliza writes with her left hand.  I don't recall anyone criticizing her for that; maybe they have enough ammunition from her being an outspoken woman.

But in this episode she started to peel a potato, holding the knife in her right hand.

  11. The new vet, having been introduced to Mrs. Hall, thought Gerald was Mr. Hall.  By 1940 was it no longer the custom to address a middle-aged housekeeper as "Mrs.," whether she had ever been married or not? (Therefore one should not assume that a Mr. Hall existed.) If it was still the custom, maybe the new vet didn't know that, or maybe he was flustered or deficient on social graces.

  12. Tumblers do not have to have flat bottoms.  Originally they had rounded or pointed bottoms, so they could not be set down between drinks.  Maybe taverns chose them so patrons would drink more.

  13. Week 19: 3/5 + 2*.  Sorry I'm late. but over the past week winter storms caused power outages and 6 days without wifi, so I'm just catching up from the archive.  Bringing clean snow with hot maple syrup to pour over it.
