Phyllis is an older spinster with no responsibilities so it's easy for her to blow off the money side of things.

What was the pension or retirement situation at the time?  If Phyllis becomes unable to work, will she have some income or support?  She is not a nun like Sister Monica Joan who can depend on the order taking care of her.

  2. Jay could use his fingerprint or facial recognition to log in.

Are there "games" in which a user makes investments in stocks etc., but it isn't real money?  Sam & Jay could let Trevor "sneakily" use one of those so he would think he is making (and losing) real money, but he wouldn't be affecting their real finances.

I figured it was the Western Hemisphere since the UN is headquartered in NYC.

So did I, because it was unclear what "its" referred to.  Not the best written clue.  At least Western Hemisphere got me Peru, although Portugal is in the Western Hemisphere too.

Yogesh's FJ embellishment, "I for one welcome our new Troy overlord,"

It may have been a reference to the games against Watson, in which Ken Jennings wrote, "I for one welcome our new computer overlords."  (Which doesn't mean Yogesh didn't mean it as a passive aggressive "compliment.")

  5. Could Margaret have given Susan the promotion now, and promised a raise when the firm's money issues ease?

At the beginning I knew something was off with the guy because he put a box of eggs into his cart without checking them for cracks.

  6. Since it's State of the Union day, here's a bit from "He Shall from Time to Time":
President Josiah Bartlet: We meant "stronger" here, right?
Sam Seaborn: What does it say?
President Josiah Bartlet: I'm proud to report our country is stranger than it was a year ago?
    Sam Seaborn: That's a typo.
President Josiah Bartlet: Could go either way.

  7. In science fiction circles, if someone asks for a good "first contact with aliens" novel, Shogun is often recommended because the cultures of the Japanese and British characters are so different.

    Maybe he's got another side???

Reminds me of when someone accused Abraham Lincoln of being two-faced. Lincoln replied, "If I had another face, do you think I would wear this one?"

Can someone please stop the theme song of The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp from going through my mind? It hasn’t stopped since Wednesday!

Playing a song you like better, or a song you hate even more, sometimes helps.  Try "Winchester Cathedral."

Once I got the 1812 Overture stuck in my head: church bells, cannons, and all.  For hours, not days, but I had the most awful headache by the time it went away.

I'd love to know why Sass didn't influence Hetty not to marry Elias.

IIRC, Hetty did not have a lot of choice in the matter.  Didn't her father more or less trade her to Elias in exchange for land or something?
