This damn show keeps teasing me with moments where I think Alicia is going to see the light and drop out of the stupid election. Everytime she realizes (which keeps happening over and over and over) that Prady is a better person than she is, I think it'll finally be the moment. But nope. It keeps not happening. Apparently I have no real conception of her ego size. Please let her lose. PLEASE! I just can't even stomach the idea of her running the State Attorney's office.

The quotes were printed on the crotch panel. While I get the concept in theory, it's just strange. And her 14% repeat customer rate is low. When women find a bra they like, they become loyal to it. If only 14% of her customers liked the product enough to buy again, that doesn't sound good. It seems like a fashion product, but not a utilitarian product. And while women like pretty bras, the utility is the higher priority when you're buying for everyday use. -

That's not an unreasonable or unusual price for a quality bra. However 10 million dollars or whatever for an unknown lingerie company? That's insane. And I rolled my eyes hard at the fact that she announced everything was sewn by single mothers. I had to do a little googling to find out what she was talking about with the "giving back" claims, and it does appear the goal is to help women in Colombia, but she did a terrible job describing it. I'm sure she's an intelligent businesswoman, and she probably does well in corporate boardroom environments, but her attitude was off-putting and she made no effort to get the sharks to want to work with her on a human level. -
I was hoping that all of her fantasy strategizing would make her realize how much she missed actually practicing law and convince her to withdraw from the election. All of the stuff she hates-- the gladhanding, the interviews, the politicking-- is basically what a State's Attorney does full time. They almost never handle cases in a courtroom (unless it's a publicity stunt for a high profile case). It's a political position whose duties are basically administrative tasks and media-related obligations. Frankly, from what we've seen of Alicia over the past couple years, it's a job she would hate.

She reminded me a little of Kristen Schaal (appearance-wise).

I really hope Alicia loses the election. I miss when this was a show about lawyers being awesome.

The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst

Yeah, it makes them bad lawyers. If you hire me for legal advice, and I advise you not to do any interviews, and you choose to do them anyway, I'd tell you to hire a new lawyer. Not to mention, even though it appears he has legal counsel present during the interviews, they haven't intervened at all (that we've seen) to restrict the subject matter of the questions Bob has been asked. -
I feel like Cleo's parents wouldn't be up in arms about the piercing thing. At this point, among that age group, piercings and tattoos are pretty commonplace-- particularly among the kind of NYC kids who go to the kind of school the show is depicting. So whereas my parents would have murdered me, hers would probably shrug and think its about "individuality" and "creativity" or whatever. I assume that scene was more to show the audience how inappropriately comfortable Hannah is with her students, but not as a set up that will bite her in the ass careerwise.

So, I guess Jarecki has now decided he's gonna be the one to crack the Berman case? Instead of notifying law enforcement about the discovered letter, he's going to hang on to it, and try to get Bob to confess? Say something incriminating? I just feel like Jarecki's desire for an Angela Lansbury/Jessica Fletcher moment isn't the right way to handle this. Also, Bob's current lawyers are the worst lawyers in history. I'm a criminal defense attorney, and there's no way I'd let my client go through these interviews when there are potential murder charges out there. -

The sorority women will do well in that they've identified a market that has the means and desire to pay for affordable outfits they'll only wear once (ie. sorority girls and bridesmaids). It isn't a market I can understand, but it definitely exists and its members tend to have a good amount of disposable income. However if I had to sit through a business meeting with those women, the cadence of their voices would drive me crazy. The coconut thing boggled my mind. Instead of buying a uni-purpose tool set for $60, couldn't you use that same money to buy a shitload of coconut water? Other than restaurants or vendors that cook with coconuts, who is buying this? Maybe it's the go-to gift idea for Brooklyn-ites, but it doesn't seem like a sustainable business to me. -
Virtually every grocery store sells mason jars made by a brand called Ball that is intended to be used for canning/preserving-- they're in the same section as the kitchen gadgets (that no one actually buys at grocery stores). You'd only notice them if you looked for them. But more importantly, I'm exhausted by all of Nicholle's attempts to show how "out of touch" she is. And I'm sure she thinks it's cute, but it really just enforces the stereotype of Republicans not being able to relate to "regular folk". When she claimed not to know about Chick Fil-A and the CEO's donations to anti-gay marriage organizations, it just made her seem ignorant about current events. Which is probably not a good quality for this gig (as well as the other shows she regularly appears on).

Eve's Marathon Diary: Design Not Quite Within Reach
marny replied to Primetimer's topic in The Wire [V]
Reading these recaps really makes me wish I could watch this series again for the first time. -
I wonder if Stacy sits that way because she has trouble crossing her legs at the knee under that table. The chairs are kind of tall and she has pretty long legs. When Rosie O sat there, it wasn't an issue because she didn't cross her legs when she sat. Some women are just more comfortable sitting cross-legged than others. Also, I think she's trying to turn her body to face out to the audience so that they don't feel like they're being excluded from the conversation.

The interviews today were terrible. Apparently they didn't have enough to talk to Kate Walsh about, so they had to "play" some stupid "game" where she had to identify which famous Kate said random quotes. It was painfully dumb. Then, they had Mark Duplass on, and after about 3 questions about his work, Nicholle loudly and shrilly announces that they both love donuts and recites for him (off her blue cards) some random thing he had said on twitter once about liking donuts, and Rosie P brings out some donuts, and the interview is over. I've heard Mark Duplass interviewed before by much better interviewers, and he's truly an interesting, talented, funny, and smart guy, but unfortunately you'd never know this from The View. What a waste.

I loved hearing Mimi-Rose's speech to Adam about not needing him there, but rather wanting him there. To me, that's the healthiest relationship description I've ever heard on a TV show. And I feel the same way about my husband: I love him dearly and I want him in my life and in our home. But do I "need" him? No. I can choose my own clothes, financially support myself, handle my own matters, etc. I think too many women choose men they think they need instead of men they actually want out of fear of being independent. As for the abortion-- I'm not sure she needed to discuss it first. She knew she didn't want the pregnancy, so why did she need another voice in the decision-making? Even if Adam desperately wanted a baby, that doesn't mean it would have changed her decision, so why create conflict? My only question about it is whether she should have told him at all. It seemed like she wasn't totally planning to except that the issue of her physical activity came up, and she didn't want to lie about why she couldn't go jogging.

Why on earth are any of these people friends with Melissa George's character? She's terrible, and is raising her kid to be terrible. So stop inviting her and her awful family to your birthday parties! When Uma Thurman's character refused to take sides, all I could think was, "Why wouldn't you jump at the chance to get that horrible woman and her brat out of your life?"

The Millionaire Matchmaker - General Discussion

My husband and I like to refer to the master dates as "Masturdation". So, yeah. -
I think the other three's issue with the Daymond/Laurie offer to the Scholly guy was that it came across as super-patronizing. They heard a guy who came from a poor background, who worked hard to get scholarships to college, who created an idea to help other kids get scholarships-- and immediately threw money at him. They asked him nothing-- nothing about the app, nothing about the amount of debt the company probably has, nothing about how the money will be spent, nothing about how they expect to grow the company, literally zero. They've never let a single other entrepeneur get away with explaining so little-- even when their ideas have been much better and more obviously lucrative. So it came across like "Aw, poor little cute college kid-- here's some money." It teaches the young man nothing, and it sets a terrible example. And every time Laurie kept saying the bullshit about, "You guys are just mad because you got scooped," she sounded dumber and dumber.

I thought the bathing suit version of the sports bra was a good idea. When you go to the beach, you don't want to leave your money sitting on the sand unattended while you go in the water. Or if you go to a waterpark, it's a good way to carry money without having to tote a purse around. As a sports bra, I can see putting a house key in there when you go for a run, and that would be flat enough that it shouldn't be annoying. But it just didn't look that supportive to me. Plus, I have several pairs of spandex running pants that have a small zippered compartment on the back of the waist band that serves the same purpose. -

I think the Dr. Oz audience has a big overlap with her QVC audience-- and I think she knows that. -
She did have him vaccinated. She claimed his autism was caused by the vaccines. And then she later claimed she cured his autism with diet or some such voodoo. And then retracted that and said maybe he wasn't autistic to begin with. Or he was. Or not. But she also said she'd rather he had measles since that's way better than autism in her stupid brain.

I was surprised MM found in favor of the mother in the saxophone case. It seemed to me to be parallel to cases she's heard where someone purchases an item that comes with a warranty-- if there's a problem, you have to give the store the chance to fix it. In this case, the item had a problem, and the store was able to fix it the very day it was brought to their attention. It's only because the mom got her panties in a bunch about her kid's feelings possibly being hurt that she suddenly didn't want the sax anymore. If she'd taken the sax back and there continued to be a problem with it, then I can see letting the mom return it. Otherwise, nope. And the fact that the store was far from the mom's house really shouldn't even be taken into consideration. Mom chose the shop. If it's too inconvenient for her, she should have shopped elsewhere.

The problem with the contract the AI winner signed is that it (allegedly) violates the laws regarding the treatment of performers. Of course, the View ladies didn't bother finding out the nuances of the lawsuit so they couldn't ably discuss it.

As soon as Lori mentioned wanting to make the Lumio lights in different colors, I knew he wouldn't pick her. I know she's a good businesswoman, and great at hawking her QVC wares, but she's just so tacky.
