Yes, this a thousand times! OK, Bev, you've voiced your concerns. You've let your sister know you're there for her. Now butt out! My god. Get a damn hobby.

I did too, and perfect for a beach wedding! I had her pegged for a sparkly, mermaid style, not the very classy, understated flowy number she wore. She looked great. God, he gave me the heebie jeebies with that statement. You know what that means. He has life insurance, all right. But Nikki is not the beneficiary. She will have nothing unless he decides to bestow it on her. I bet he makes her feel bad about the food she eats. He'll say "take it easy now, Nikki! I don't want my songbird to turn into a Strasbourg goose! Cool it on the pop tarts!" I'll bet anyone here five dollars that that ring is a CZ. He's a controlling prick and that poor kid has Stockholm Syndrome. She's kept under control by the occasional crumb of kindness. Loren made me laugh A LOT. I ended up liking her. She's learned a thing or two, and was able to laugh at herself. She's always going to be a drama queen, and Alexei seems fine with that, so more power to them. He's very laid back and soft spoken, they'll complement each other. Right? He sounded like he had one eye on his watch and wanted to get this thing overwith. My theory is that he was some random homeless guy they gave $20 and a bottle of Southern Comfort. Was that the $10 dress? Nikki looked really pretty. Oh yes. LOL, I got married when I was 33-just before my sell by date! I had no idea how lucky I was! Whatever Melanie and Devar have, it seems genuine and works for them. I really enjoyed Devar's dry sense of humor--I think he will enjoy winding up Bev the hosebeast in the years to come. His and Hunter's interactions were really cute and Hunter seems like an awesome little guy. I wish them the best. Agreed, he did himself no favors by appearing on this show. He was insanely creepy. Run Nikki, run!

The trouble with dried chickpeas is that they have to be soaked overnight. the quick soak method is very hit or miss--they might get soft enough to use but they might not. They are a temperamental legume! Even using the quick soak, would she have had time?

S01.E03: Teamwork Is Hard
Pepper Mostly replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Project Runway: Junior [V]
I do agree, I apologize! I was reading quickly and thought you were saying that Tim was correct that the Peter Pan collar would never have been seen on Twiggy. Proves I should not read at work! (hangs head in shame). I also agree that the collar change up was very well done. (Looks like we both Googled images of Twiggy, I found the same one). I am spending waaaaaay too much time thinking about Twiggy, Peter Pan collars, and 60's fashion! -

Not to nitpick, but Tim was clutching his pearls and saying Twiggy would NEVER have bee seen in a Peter Pan collar. I think changing up the collar was the right way to go, and the dress looked better and more modern, less of a throwback -
I have no idea. It seems Frances didn't think using organic canned chickpeas was such a heinous offense, so I guess she didn't think, as she was rushing through the aisles at Whole Foods, trying to get all her ingredients together in a short time, that she should get dried chickpeas and hope there were pressure cookers available, or rethink her whole dish, or any of the other things she didn't think to do. I don't think that makes her lacking in ability. I think she had an idea, she wanted to make it work, and made a decision. Tom annoys me because he has the luxury of sitting back and being able to come up with every possible permutation, then snark on the cheftestants for not thinking of them.
-
I've only seen dried chickpeas in the store, never fresh. I use them myself for chickpea soup. According to Anne Burrell, you can't use the quick soak method for chickpeas, so Frances was kind of stuck there. I certainly don't fault her for using canned chickpeas, she already had an idea and was probably just focused on executing. Time is tight and I can see her thinking "vegan" not necessarily "freshly harvested in season vegan". Tom annoys me because he expects the chefs to read his mind. (well, among other things. Tom annoys me for many many reasons!) Yes, she could have switched gears and tried to find something else, but she didn't.

Squish over on the old lady couch. I remember them well, and Summer Song comes up on my Pandora from time to time. That was bullshit from Tom about the chickpeas. The chefs were sent to Whole Foods for their supplies. They did not have fresh picked, in season chickpeas. So what was Frances to do, exactly? Go pluck them from the earth at their host's garden? Jesus, Tom bugs the shit out of me.

Padma's still a bitch, I see. "So, Renee, tell me about your reason for existence and why I should even deign to taste your flyover country food". Sorry, I know lots of people like her but I have never been a fan. She seems to be very insecure in the presence of another attractive woman and once someone's in her sights, she can't seem to be able to resist getting her digs in. Like that poor guy with the spoon. Yes, he was wrong, but he knew it and was mortified. Let it go already. I don't like Tom either. Why do I torment myself? I remember liking Grayson in her original showing, so I hope she can adjust her attitude! Me, I'm rooting for my homies, Karen and Carl! Boston, represent! Hahaha, I remember that! He stuck his finger in the sauce to taste it, and was summarily thrown out of the kitchen. Then he was the first to go anyway. That was another person--an older lady who was wearing sneaks. I cannot believe I remember that!

That dress with the Peter Pan collar was totally 60's! I was maybe in 7th grade when Twiggy hit big--she wore a lot of cute little collared dresses. thirty seconds on Google Images tells the tale! I understand changing the neckline to make it current, but she was not off base with the choice of the Peter Pan. I knew they'd lost when they said "no prints". And in case there was any doubt, they went with earth tones. The 60's to me were bright colors and prints galore. Little flowered print skirts and dresses were all the rage, big splashy flower prints, paisley, orange, hot pink, and lemon yellow. The color palette was all wrong. If they were going for early 60's, Mad Men style, they missed the mark with the shapes. Once Matt said Jacki O. I got it, but it was a stretch. And Kelly Osborne, love her or hate her, is a bit of a 60's aficionado. She knew it was all kinds of bad.- 57 replies

Mark & Nikki: Touch That Window, Lose Your Hand
Pepper Mostly replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
oh god, I just had a horrible thought--what if he pressures her to get her tubes tied? I wouldn't put it past him. -
Yup. Just like you could see the coldness in his eyes and the cruel set to his mouth when he told Nikki to sign the prenup. He's getting a do over with his ex wife all right. He's probably spent years plotting this. "NEXT time, I won't be snowed! no diamond ring, no expensive wedding dress, no car, no nothing! She will be obedient and cater to my every whim."

She tried to ask how much she should spend. He didn't giver her a budget, just told her that if she found something she loved, he wouldn't say no. He knew it would be 15 minutes on the beach before she went upstairs to the salon. And I contend that he knew all along that she wasn't getting a dress that day. He could have taken her to David's Bridal at the local mall and gotten away with a few hundred bucks. But he didn't. He wanted to twist the knife.

I'm an old hippie so I don't object to facial hair. He does look nicer with it trimmed. The thing I noticed and liked about Neil was that he had a houseful of friends over for the Ceremonial Beard Trimming. I just loved that he seems to have a large, supportive, fun bunch of friends. The tattoos cracked me up.

I worked as a bartender all through my 20's. Its a great job for a young person, fun and good money! When I worked in hotels I worked with people who'd been in service jobs all their professional careers--waiters, bellmen, doormen. (there's a corner in Boston named for a well known and loved doorman at the Parker House Hotel). I don't think it says anything about Kyle's character that he works as a bartender.

Social Media & Spoilery Speculation
Pepper Mostly replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
Carolina better watch out--might get shanked if she doesn't stop cleaning like a baby. I'm sayin. Grand theft! Fraud! She has aliases! Fernandito is romanticizing all right. Holy moly. She didn't just kite a check, she stole a goddamn CAR! -

omigod--can I just drop this in here? http://mugshots.com/US-Counties/Florida/Unsorted-FL/Anicia-P-Verdini.2264051.html (If its against the rules I apologize! Too juicy not to share, but of course I'll remove and take my punishment like a grownup) -
If he has life insurance, the kids are beneficiaries. He'll leave Nikki penniless and he doesn't care one iota.
-
Agreed. the poor girl still has a zip tie engagement ring! Mark is all "I'm so whimsical and quirky!" No, you are a cheap prick who won't even get his fiancee an engagement ring. Nikki is being broken down, isolated, and being trained to expect little, so she'll be all the more grateful for the crumbs of kindness Mark will occasionally bestow. I loathe him.

If that old tightwad takes Nikki to Hawaii I'll eat my hat. He'll probably take her to the Jersey shore and tell her its Hawaii.

Was I the only one who thought that Mark and Nikki would go to Kleinfeld? When reality teevee worlds collide! First it was poor Kyle with his Intervention-bound mother, then wedding dress shopping. I was positive they'd go there!

Grandma was so pleased with herself! "that will make for an exciting wedding night", giggle. So naughty! That nightie would not be racy on a nun. Poor Vlad. I felt so bad for him. He doesn't speak English and was stuck in a room with the scintillating male relatives, watching them play video games. I hope he and Svetlana went out to a bar afterwards. I'm sure he needed a drink!

Live Free Or Die - General Discussion
Pepper Mostly replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Live Free Or Die
I just love them. I saw a little video of him answering a viewer question (on the FB page for the show). The viewer wanted to know what his education was and what profession he'd had before. He graduated from college with a degree in Environmental Studies, worked as a barista before going off the grid, and says he'd like to be a writer. I wish he would write a book about his and Amelia's homesteading adventures. I would read it, I eat stuff like that up. I wouldn't DO it, but I love to see how other people operate and make the choices they do. I suppose its too much to hope for, for Colbert to write a book? He's really interesting to me, going off to the swamp to live on his own, leaving the rat race behind. -
Oh Beverly. Loved her super klassy boob tattoo. That woman is just a walking ball of rage. Ugh. Loren is a hell beast. Her interaction with her mother was GOLD. In an awful, cringeworthy way, but gold nonetheless. And really? She had NO IDEA that her BFF would take her to a strip club? They've probably been planning each other's bacherlorette nights for years. All she had to say to Alexei was "I'm sorry", but of course Miss Princess couldn't manage that. It was just defensive whining and mememe. "Its my last night to have fun!" Girl, take a goddamn seat. You are not being banished to the women's quarters, never to see the light of day again after your wedding. Seriously, this woman is exhausting. If I was in a room with her and her BFF for more than 5 minutes I'm quite sure I'd be capable of mayhem. When Carolina stormed off and Fernando just sat there, I SAW the thought bubble over his head--"Wow, she's really upset. Maybe I should.....but it would be a shame to let these clams go to waste...." Kyle and Noon were utterly adorable. The scenes with his mother were absolutely painful to watch--90 Day Fiance by way of Intervention. Mama looked rough. I'm glad she didn't make the wedding. I'm sure lots of unnecessary drama was avoided. Mark is a contemptible old cad. The scene at the wedding dress shop was all kinds of wrong. He lied and told her to pick out what she wanted and he wouldn't say no. Then he said no. He's treating that poor kid like a hostage, doling out the occasional act of kindness, but also setting her up and letting her down. And the implacable, cruel look on his face when he was telling her to sign the prenup? My blood ran cold. He is a cold, unfeeling man who wants arm candy and a nurse. Yuck.
