  1. My bad, I thought it was Rosamund Pike playing Shelby's mom. I was kidding :) Exaggerating like the show.
  2. I'm pretty much out now. I realize they were trying to show a diverse cast but then they go and do the usual Hollywood sexism/ageism thing. The actress playing Shelby's mother is 37. The actress playing Shelby is 29. This isn't the medieval ages where 8 year olds having kids is the norm. There are plenty of beautiful, middle aged blond actresses in Hollywood. No need to have Shelby's mom be ridiculously young to show being on the lam hasn't aged her. Shelby's father's fake country accent was in insult to all southerners. Her mother didn't have a country accent so no reason for her father to have one. Seems like 15 years on the lam in a foreign country would have taught him to get rid of such an identifying accent. Idiot. I knew the "surprise" reveal was not going to be surprising. The only thing surprising to me was the CIA asset reveal. Glad Will is in the future. He's my favorite character, I think. Only thing keeping me watching at this point is to figure what happened to Brandon.
  3. In real life, Tasha would have been dead before the Weller and Reade figured out she was not on the bus anymore.
  4. I hope with the merging of Julia's and Quentin's stories, the show no longer feels the need to continue the weird lighting/color effect. Julia's scenes were always shot in this dingy blue/grey color while Quentin's scenes were mainly shot in a bright gold/red color. Maybe now the lighting colors can be normal for all scenes. If the Library is outside of the time loop and exists in alternate timelines/universes, then the books must be the only thing constant. I wonder if the Librarian has banished Elliot and gang from the Library forever in all timelines/universes? If so, then it makes what Elliot did infinitely worse. Before he only killed Mike's shell body, now he has killed Mike's soul. I am beginning to wonder about this Ember entity. He seems overly powerful. He was able to give Jane a watch, locket, and button that can give direct access to Fillory and stop time and create a time loop in worlds outside of Fillory. Is he supposed to be a God too? If the Ember is so powerful, why can't he stop the Beast from killing people who come (or can potentially come) to Fillory?
  5. Thank you for looking! I know it's type casting, but I kept thinking Joe would turn out to be evil because the actor playing him seems to play bad guys. Or actors who look like him.
  6. My closed captioning said Quentin used the truth serum 27 times and died 39 times. So Quentin was even slower on the uptake. ;) Based on conversations the Dean and Eliza had during the pilot, I think this current time, 40, is the first time he has lost his eyes. Eliza said it was happening faster this time and she didn't know the Beast would take his eyes. This is all reminding me of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series where Ishamael no longer care about the Dark Lord winning or the Dragon (Rand) being defeated. He just wanted it all to end. He literally tries to blow everything up so he doesn't have to go through the Wheel again for the 1000(+) time. What is interesting is Plover, Prudence and the Housekeeper's children were also stuck in a time loop of sorts. So a time loop within a time loop? Now, Quentin and Julia have time traveled and followed the young Jane into Filiory. There are time paradoxes galore. I'm hoping Quentin and Julia can save adult Eliza/Jane too. Again, referencing "The Wheel of Time", there was a concentrated beam of light that could burn someone's life thread out of the pattern so they no longer existed in the Wheel. I am guessing something similar goes on with the books. If someone's book is destroyed, then they no longer exist in any time frame, time loop, parallel universe, etc. Once their book is gone, they are gone forever. Hence, the Librarian being upset about the life being lost and banishing them.
  7. The biggest question for me is why am I still watching? So many other worthy, deserving shows get cancelled but this show gets renewed? I cannot believe I fell for the notion once Hannah took over being in charge there would actually be someone with brains running the resistance. But no, Alex's mesmerizing hair gets to hannah's brains too and turns her into a complete blundering idiot. Seriously, hannah thought the time to apologize to Alex and tell Alex what she did to Ryan was when the situation called for their 100% concentration? For all Hannah's talk, in the end she decided not to tell the director? So many people already died what makes her think them cooperating will prevent more deaths? As Hannah pointed out, Alex has committed treason. What makes them think they will not be punished even if by some miracle they catch the baddie? Alex, Hannah and Simon know Alex's every move being watched closely but somehow they all think the terrorist doesn't know about what they are doing? Alex stands right in front of her window and doesn't think the terrorist won't see Simon in the background? They don't they think Alex's apartment or cell phone is bugged? I totally call the big reveal will actually not reveal the big baddie but show another person being forced to cooperate. The flashbacks getting stupider and pointless. So instead of doing an exercise about what went wrong/right last week, Liam and all decide to do the kobayashi maru to teach them what they just learned and experienced in real life? What is up with the past and present emotions pairing up? Last week future nimah mad at Miranda because of Raina going undercover when they were NATs and because Raina was still keeping secrets from her. This week, past twins and Miranda are seen making up. Did they all have another identical fall out? Why is it when a future person dies we no longer see them in flashbacks? Caleb's dad, Nathalie, etc. I know, I know, the answer is no money in the budget. Finally, my only rationale for Ryan's inexplicable conclusion is he was thinking with his smaller brain. Maybe he was worried his worst nightmare was coming true. The 2 women he has loved end up hooking up.
  8. The editing or continuity fairies need help. We see Shelby storming out of the FBI building after talking to Caleb (about her not dead parents) wearing only a white blouse. She is not carrying a jacket. The next time we see her, she is hiding out in the woods wearing a ski cap and matching blue parka. This is exactly the same cap and parka the other NATs seemed to have conjured up out of thin air and are wearing in the woods. All of which do not make sense if there is snow everywhere and you are trying to be inconspicuous. I hope they do not continue with the flashbacks next season, however I do not know how the show can be called Quantico if it's not based there. Probably does not matter because I doubt I'll be watching next year either.
  9. Oops, thanks for the correction. As some others have posted, I also do not watch the Julia scenes closely. I still think it is incredibly dumb Julia has to do all these things in order to speak to the Goddess who is already talking to her. I hope the show goes into more explanation for Julia having to go through all these cumbersome hoops. On a shallow note, I absolutely love all of Margo's clothes. The dress she wore in the opening scene while sitting on the couch was cool. The jacket she wore when they were walking outside was so cute. Alice on the other hand has the worst outfits. They are ill fitting and most of her skirts are ridiculously short. I wonder if the stylist likes the actress playing Margo more. ;) The Beast's distinctive walk reminds me of the bad guy's walk from the "Charlie's Angels" movie. I too hope they explain why the Beast is fixated on Quentin. Penny, Alice and now Julia are being portrayed as extra special snowflakes. They seem to be going to great lengths to show how average Quentin is.
  10. I was referring to Elliot and Margo, not the first years. I guess as others have postulated, the reason for never seeing Margo and Elliot in a classroom or participating in any learning activity is there is no budget for it. Is the actor who played Joe the guy from the "Scream" movie?
  11. Penny: he's targeting us because we can hear him, because we can travel Stanley: no shit, like I wanna travel to a blue state, never mind other worlds Female professor: the crack, that was a straight up OD, no chaser Penny: you smoked crack? Female professor: I've done things that would make you hide under a blankie Penny: a voice from another world has a thing for travelers FP: so it's an assault? Penny: that's a nice mild term for it FP: this goes on the base of your neck. It blocks the flow to your head, like a dam Penny: you didn't think of giving it to me sooner? FP: it's not approved
  12. So we got a graphic violence warning this time. Stanley blowing his head off and the beast breaking Alice's neck was finally enough to prompt the warning. Then we got a suicide prevention ad at the end. Guess the show doesn't want people to think they are glamorizing suicide now. It was definitely a ménage a trios. Poor Elliot. I guess the school has no mental health counselors (being sarcastic). I hope they deal with his PTSD in a more thoughtful manner then just going to Fillory and being healed by Spring. I had a feeling the girl Julia and Richard euthanized was going to be more important. Didn't think she would turn out to be a goddess, though. So lame. Julia has to find some random 1000 year old worshipper and figure out what 3 gifts to bring him. All this so he can tell Julia how to get to the goddess that is talking to Julia already?! I thought Julia already proved herself to the goddess?
  13. I was using the example of a Harvard degree metaphorically. A Harvard education is traditionally viewed as the best education one can receive. Brakebills is portrayed as the best magic education one can receive, yet what are its graduates doing with this wealth of knowledge? Many of the graduates and 3rd year students seem to wander around with no real purpose. Having a grade A magic education did not make their lives better, richer, or fuller. I'm postulating Alice's parents are actually really good magicians since their children are pretty smart magicians. Richard said he's a good magician, but he turned to drugs and caused the death of his son. Elliot seems to be heading down a path of self destruction, but no one (at the school) seems to care. I would think most teachers would be alarmed and try to help Elliot, but at Brakebills the teachers are indifferent. I guess I'm still not clear why the school exists. Magical education can be self taught or you can be mentored one on one. At this point, I feel the only purpose for the school's existence is to be a central place for most of the characters to meet each other. On the Alice note, I don't understand why she needs to stay at Brakebills from an education stand point. She appears to be as knowledgeable as the teachers and admits she is holding herself back.
  14. That is precisely my point. They are gifted magicians. The show has never depicted them in an actual classroom or participating in any other learning activity. Why then are they still in school? What is the purpose of a Brakebills' education? It appears having a degree from Brakebills is the muggle equivalent of having a $250K Harvard degree and becoming a housekeeper or cafeteria worker. Marina was a powerful Hedge witch before she regained her Brakebill memories. Now she has her memories of her education, but again she didn't actually graduate. Does the 3 months she missed make a difference? In the grand scheme of things, from what we have been shown, having a Brakebill degree doesn't seem to really matter. The other question I have is what is up with this arbitrary way they pick their students and "thin the herd"? Julia is obviously going to be a powerful magician, so why didn't they choose her?
  15. On another thought, what is the purpose of brakebills? Doesn't seem like Elliot and Margo doing any learning. Marina was powerful even though she didn't graduate. Richard graduated and is a self proclaimed "damned good magician ", but feels brakebills was confining and not innovative. Even the crazy Antarctic teacher said the school was soft. Now we have free traders on top of self taught hedge witches. Julia's story seems to imply you can be a powerful magician without going to brakebills. So why all this "thinning the herd" and best of the best crap?
  16. The library scenes were awesome. It was "The Librarians" meet "The Matrix ". It appears the librarians are one of the most powerful groups, even more magical/powerful than the beast. Dean Fogg and Eliza made it sound like humans were completely defenseless and helpless against the beast. The librarian, on the other hand, spoke of the beast like he was a nuisance and not a mortal threat. So many questions from Penny going to the neitherlands. Why does penny go by penny (a girl's name) and not William? How many times has penny been in the neitherlands and the library? How come he doesn't remember his prior visits? Does he really swear profusely every time? Who writes all the books? If the books are already written, then it implies predestination and not free will or thought. So penny should just read the books on Alice, Quentin, Margo and Elliot to figure out how to kill the beast. At first I thought the time magic meant marina or the beast was coming for them. Luckily my close captioning said "light music" playing so was relieved there would be a hiatus on bloodshed and gore in this episode.
  17. TV land FBI shows make the FBI look like a bunch of imbeciles. Patterson was so pleased with herself over the tracking necklace. Really? It's a sex trafficking ring, of course the first thing they will take/remove is personal jewelry. The necklace was displayed prominently, not even covered by her shirt. The worst, however, was the utter incompetence of weller and reade when they were supposed to be watching her closely. They seriously didn't think an unplanned bathroom break was unusual. Then didn't care the truck blocked their view. At least Reade finally came to his senses and forced weller to do a visual confirmation. Proves both of them are being compromised by their personal lives. Glad reade stood up to weller and told him he was being a hypocrite. Hate that weller using the US marshal as a Jane substitute and that the US marshal knows it but still sleeps with him. So now zapata being blackmailed by the US attorney? Show writers, please stop using same plots over and over in the same season!
  18. I think Martin is the beast too. Based on the way Eliza spoke to the beast before he killed her, it seems like she was addressing him as an equal or contemporary and not as a superior. She would have been more formal with the beast if he were Mr. Plover, British manners and all
  19. Giving the show the benefit of the doubt. Jane/Taylor did go to extremes to erase her memory in order to fulfill some long term mission. I can understand why then Tree Tat guy doesn't tell her everyone. Defeats the whole purpose of tattooing her body and erasing her memory. Having dealt with dreary jury duty summons and waiting forever for the judge, lawyers and such to show up, I was LMAO when Keller was giving exposition on how he figured out who the mole was. I find it a little unbelievable judges, lawyers, defendants and guards show up to the courthouse before 8am. This episode felt like a bad version of the Kevin Costner movie about a Russian spy/mole. Must they kill off every bad guy so quickly? Or is there some super duper bad guy lurking around that we haven't been formally introduced to yet? Weller was a big butt head. Who died and made him in the dictator over his co worker and sister's love lives?
  20. Mike turning out to be the beast, not surprising. Mike killing the bunny AND Jane, surprising. So much gore for a cable show that comes on at 6 pm (Southern California). I hope the devoutly religious don't get a wind of this show. There will be calls for cancellation for sure. Multiple Gods/Deities, chaplains using F bombs ?! Not just the students cussing like sailors. The teachers too. Dean Fogg sure full of hope and joy. Just when Julia was perking up. What on earth do 3rd year students do other than "bang", have parties and do drugs and alcohol? We never see them in class. The entire student body must be less than a dozen by now since there are only 3 left in the 2nd year class. How did Elliot and Margo get to go to that beach trip as first years? Glad we got to see more classes and teachers. So many funny quotes tonight. "You counted? Of course I counted!"
  21. Finally a smooth flowing, suspenseful episode. Julia was tolerable, but clueless about being watched. I assume Marina or her minions were watching them at the diner. The camera angles made it seem like there were 2 people spying on them. Probably how Marina knew Kady was lying about finding the invisible spell. Obviously it was a good spell that Marina is going to use in the future. I also assumed Hannah died because she opened the cabinet first. Poor Kady, she may have been angry at her mom, but I'm sure she'll want revenge for her death. Wonder if she'll blame Julia or Marina or both? So Alice is Hermoine Granger and Quentin is Harry Potter, the chosen one? I am glad Alice is an extra special snowflake since Julia, Marina, Kady, Hannah, Margo, etc are not. Margo's talent is being the gossip queen, while Penny's talent is mind reading and traveling. Just not in the same league.
  22. I thoroughly enjoyed the "B" plot where Margo and Penny were competing against each other for the cool mentor. They had some funny lines and looks. The rest of the plots ran from mildly boring Penny and the transporting, super boring Quentin and Alice and excruciatingly annoying Julia. I wish they would stop glamorizing smoking, drinking, drugs and sex. Also, enough already with the cussing. Why does every character have to have a potty mouth? Used sparingly, the profanity can drive home a point. The way the writers use it makes the characters seem trashy. I guess we finally found out what makes Quentin the extra special snowflake among so many snowflakes. Of the beast is from Fillory. What a surprise, said no viewer.
  23. Wow, the show ended on kinda of a dark note. Malcolm being driven off to be tortured for a year before being killed. The POTUS turning into a Batman villain and trying to create his own personal army. My dream is John ditches Pamela and joins forces with Olga to rescue Malcolm. Then they all unite with the VEEP to take on the POTUS's henchmen.
  24. So this is the 3rd TV show to be based on a movie. Joining "Limitless " and "Minority Report" is "Total Recall" aka "Blindspot" I kept waiting for Arnold Schwarzenegger to show up and say "get your a-- to Mars". I'm thinking Jane will have the same moral dilemma as Hauser. They're a better person than the original. I wonder if seeing how much Patterson is hurting will affect Jane's decision to continue with her plan. I think all their intel that's on Jane's tattoos are from a modified version of Daylight that Mayfair's girlfriend is running. Still couldn't find a legal way to use Intel so Jane came up with this. Blackwing, I was screaming this is "Salt". Applies to the Russian sleeper agents who fall in love with their spouses and to Jane. Super spy kidnapped as child. This show is also 1/4th Jason Bourne. Amnesia, government corruption, cover ups, illegal programs within illegal programs, and volunteering.
  25. I love this show but I am struggling with all the hand waving that has to be done. I agree with all the other coincidences/conveniences mentioned. Here are additional ones. Henry read Abigail's account of Adam's injuries and stated "no one could save him with those injuries", yet somehow Abigail, a nurse, did manage to stabilize and "save" him. Adam is a motorcycle vs car victim with extensive, life threatening injuries and they decided to let him hang out in the ER with Abigail instead of taking him immediately to the OR(?!). Or they did take him to the OR and then brought him back to the ER instead of the ICU? Henry and Abigail have super duper forgery skills (Henry, I guess I can give a pass on since he has been alive so long). Hospitals, police departments, etc are supposed to have extensive background checks on their employees for obvious reasons. On this show, those background checks do not exist. Henry can get away with living in New York, NY for almost 100 years using his SAME name including title of Doctor. If this show is cancelled, then the last scene of the last episode better not be Adam shooting Henry (with the gun that originally killed him).
