I saw Tim Robbins promoting this show somewhere and he seemed to think the whole point of the show was how relevant it was WRT racial relations in the current (Trump) era. Which is weird because . . . if that's what the show is trying to be about, it's failing miserably. Every reference to racial issues has seen overworked and trite, whereas most of the characters are in tailspins over things that have nothing to do with race whatsoever. I just don't get a sense of what this show wants to say.

The swastika painting and Black Lives Matter sign scenes both seemed contrived and unrealistic.

I was a huge fan of Six Feet Under but this show isn’t really grabbing me.

I find myself with you. The acting class amuses me because they are SO RIDICULOUS but I am definitely most entertained by the Chechens. Especially the one with no hair of any kind. I'm torn between hoping we never get an explanation for it and wanting it to be something like alopecia instead of some evil inspired shenanigans.

    The actor actually has alopecia.

As I watched I kept thinking of Lawrence Block's great Keller-the-routine-hit-man series. Similar character who is sent around the country to kill people and approaches it like a bored business man. Studio apartment and a no-nonsense manager who does her nails while she's on the phone dispatching killers.

I’m not familiar with the author but I’m assuming that’s what Barry’s chosen stage name “Barry Block” is referencing.

Also, why wouldn't his mom know his text was from him?  Did he just get a new phone # and his mom didn't put it in her phone?

I immediately wondered the same thing. Why would her son’s number come up as “unknown”?

The Fonz teaching acting classes was a sight to behold!  And one of the students was D'Arcy Carden a.k.a. Janet from The Good Place!

I wish she had a bigger role in this. She’s one of the best things about The Good Place.

  6. I just finished watching this Iast night. I enjoyed it, but it’s really starting to push the boundaries in the suspension of disbelief department. I was really hoping for more indication of who/what is inhabiting the bodies of Vic, Phil, Sarah, Elisha and William.

Noregard immediately registered with me as “No Regard” the first moment I saw it.

Does Yoorana = “Your Honor” for some reason?

How are they supposed to explain these sudden “disappearances” and the fresh, unmarked graves in the cemetery?

I also think Kirstie is pregnant with Kevin’s baby.

What is going to happen with Beau’s mother/Phil’s wife after she saw all the mayhem Phil and Sarah caused at Noregard?

I wonder if Owen thinks he might be able to resurrect the guy he killed to kind of atone for his actions, or if there really is something sinister about him, or if it’s just a red herring.

Bernadette is such an abrasive, combative shrew that these days I find myself thinking that Howard could do better. He turned into a stand-up guy, loving spouse, and good father and she...just got worse. Everything with her is a conflict and everyone is somehow inconveniencing her. I used to really like Bernadette but I don't know why now.

They completely changed Bernadette (for the worse) from when she was initially introduced on the show, just like they did with Stuart.

  8. Does the “Welcome to the future” line at the end indicate that whoever those people are know that Jonas has traveled forward in time?

Hooters. My favorite is All You Zombies. Probably the most iconic song of the 80s.

That’s also probably my favorite Hooters song. I had a few of their albums (cassette) in high school.

That's where I was at with this ep. It was basically taking everything I do NOT like about the Goldbergs and amplifying it. It was the worst Bev has ever been. It was the worst the whole family has ever behaved. I just did not find anything about it enjoyable. I don't like watching people like this. I just hope it's a one off and we get back to them having at least some redeemable qualities next ep.

Yeah, I found this very tedious.

I like the song We Didn't Start the Fire, but I dislike '80s music in general.  Especially coming on the heels of the beginnings of rock and roll in the 50s, the Beatles and the counterculture in the 60s, and classic rock in the 70s, the music from the 80s just suffers in comparison.  I understand it's nostalgic for some people though.

That depends on what 80s music you’re talking about. Lots of artists released great material during the 80s.

R.E.M., The Replacements, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Pixies, XTC, Hüsker Dü, The Jesus and Mary Chain......

Interesting.  I wonder if whoever created the character of Sheldon knew a Ph.d who held views similar to your sister.  I think Joe/Jane Average would tend to think a "real" doctor is a medical doctor which is one reason that Sheldon's attitude helped make the character what he is.  Eccentric, to say the least.

When Leonard starting dating the doctor (Sara Rue) in season 2 Penny asked him if she was a “doctor doctor” or a “like you doctor?”.

  13. Why the hell would Erica leave the college party and drive home 3 hrs. to see if Lainey was there? It seems like they’re trying too hard to keep her involved in the storyline but neglecting her life at college.

Raj was definitely lying because any hand-me-downs would have been altered by one of the servants. We don't have enough information to know if he ever wore hand-me-downs, but wearing an older sister's clothes may have influenced his "taste" in attire.

His sister dressed like a 70-year-old man?

Raj and Stuart are pathetic.  In the first few seasons of the show, I detested Howard, but somehow while Sheldon and Howard have grown a little, Raj and Stuart are devolving.

I’ve said it before but they completely ruined Stuart’s character. Remember when he went out with Penny? Now he’s completely unfunny and uninteresting.
