Responding to this in the Jaclyn thread.

While Momoa stood out to me too, I'm not too sure it's a clue. With the info Spruce just gave us, I think it's another Easter egg that Mark dropped in, like Adam West in the first story. The other thing that stood out to me was this passage: And going over the list of names, there's only one link I can see. And it's someone on my short list of primary Villain suspects. ('Tis the season and all. Make your lists and check them twice.) When dealing with pro wrestling, if you eat the Keebler, all you have left is the Stacey. I'm not 100% sure about this, so I'd probably be more comfortable with a revote for the known. But either way works for me.

Argh. I need a drink after that one too. The usual please.

Winner Edit vs. Loser Edit: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
SVNBob replied to cooksdelight's topic in Survivor
Thank you. It appears that the various edits fall on the intersections of various spectra of certain qualities. We've talked about the Victory spectrum (Winner vs. Loser), the Virtue spectrum (Hero vs. Villain) and the Continuity spectrum (Narrator vs. Spotlight). And there's probably others. I thought I might have seen another one while thinking about this question, but I don't have a full bead on it. Keith, as well as everyone else in this F5, has had mainly Spotlights, and generally heroic at that. He's mostly been shown reacting to events around him, and not pro-active like Natalie, Baylor, or Missy (in descending order of hustle shown). And even though he's been shown as a weak link in alliances ("Stick with the plan."), he wasn't shown as totally clueless (he was the only Meathead we were shown that thought about talking to Jaclyn while Jon was on Exile the first time). So, a good overall edit, but I don't think enough to be a Winner edit. He's also kind of been put into another "role" edit; the Jester. Of the entire cast, he's been the most like a class clown and had the closest things to one-liners and jokes. This is a role that goes all the way back to the first season of Survivor, with Rudy as the first Jester. And very occasionally, the Jester is the Winner. Fabio and Cochran come to mind for that. Natalie's Exile Spotlight moment may be the signifier of her win. It's kind of equivalent to Earl on the mountaintop. -
That's about where I stand too. A short list of 3 or 4 others I think I have figured out. Everyone else is under question. Some more than others. That's basically my stance with this vote too.

That is an interesting point. And Tabby was the only person that did not participate at all in the cluster that was yesterDay. But for the sake of thoroughness, I must point out a couple things. The "copper" "clue" was not actually in the story, but part of the background research Stormm did into Ketel One. That may just be coincidental to the other references. Second, if the red/ginger references are indeed a clue, there is one other person it could point to. Well, animal. And one that was on the same side of the vote as TJ and JayKay yesterDay. Not a cat, but a (photo) fox. However, I won't start anything new and go with the open vote this time. Don't want to go through that foxtrot again... 3 to David Lynch Tabbyclaw (BizBuzz, egavasc, Bob) 3 to tame the beast

True, in what actually played out. And technically, for all we know that's what did happen. But I was referring to the hypothetical scenario of Jaclyn playing Jon's idol and thus not part of the tie and eligible to vote. In that case Missy would have to vote for Jon to avoid another tie and the possibility of facing the Rock of Death.
-
That couldn't have happened for 2 reasons. First of all, Natalie had immunity. Mainly though, per the rules of the re-vote, the only possible people to vote for are the ones that are in the tie. So in this hypothetical scenario, Missy would have had to vote for either Jon or Keith. And if she wanted to avoid another tie, she would have had to vote Jon. Granted, if there was a 2nd tie, there would have been a discussion, prior to Jeff needing pulling out the Rocks of Death. And that would have been a draw that only included the women (except Natalie). But we're getting increasingly hypothetical here.
-
I think I see what you're saying here, but I'm not 100% sure of one reference. Research into one very likely possibility hasn't lead to anything matching that. And if you're claiming kill-steal via power...ok, why the hell not? Same research into the same character would bear that out. I probably do owe you at least the benefit of the doubt after yesterDay, 'cause I'd have been shot dead otherwise. So I hereby rescind my vote for now. 0 everyone () 6 to keep the action going.

I've known that since you tried to get me killed for no reason. Yes. Yes. :) Per story, yes to both. Kind of. Since we're talking about the death of the SK (with a Villain being the other death and not attributed to the SK), that means that Zsasz was the target of the Villain team kill. So technically, at least 2 people killed him, even if only one did storywise. Not per the story we have so far. Are we sure of these numbers and rosters? Because while I'd prefer to believe this (better odds for us heroes), I really think it's 3 villains and 8 heroes. The key point of difference is the handsome man. He killed the SK, which has to be the Villain kill for the night as I've deduced. So the handsome man has to be one of the Villains. And we do know who that person is. 1 Spruce (SVNBob) 5 to get back on the right track.

Winner Edit vs. Loser Edit: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
SVNBob replied to cooksdelight's topic in Survivor
In addition to the Winner and Loser edits, and the Hero and Villain edits, there are two other edits. First, there's the Narrator edit, which is what Josh and Jeremy got in retrospect. As it says on the tin, the people that get this edit are the ones that are narrating the events of the season. Not for just one particular episode, but over the course of several. There's always at least 2 to start, one per initial tribe (again, see Josh and Jeremy). But in the event they don't make it all the way to the end, other Narrators have to be found. Jon's edit would now also be classified as a Narrator edit to some degree. There's also what I'm calling the Spotlight edit. That happens when someone that hasn't really been a Narrator gets Narrator duty for at least part of an episode. Typically it's their departure episode, and this edit is usually one of the signs that a lot of people pick up on. Drew this season is a classic example of a Departure Spotlight. We barely heard from him at all until he hatched his "brilliant" plan while staring at Jaclyn's ass. Kelly's edit would probably also be a Departure Spotlight. However, sometimes the Spotlight just serves to highlight certain moments from a contestant affected by them. The best recent example of this comes from last season. Woo was the primary narrator telling us about the experience of the "Survivor helps the locals" reward. That and a few other Spotlight moments were the dots on the line of how he made it to FTC. Of course, some the various edits tend to overlap. Winner edits and Narrator edits look a lot alike, often because the narrator wins, or at least makes it to FTC. And depending on the person and their play style, the Winner/Narrator could be either Hero or Villain. While I don't want to make you do this, think back to Hantz-Prime in his first season. He got a major Narrator edit coupled with a Villain edit. Whereas Natalie of that season mostly got Hero Spotlights. -
Ok.... That's not exactly what I expected to happen. It's still a good result, don't get me wrong. But I thought the result would reveal, well, something else. In either case, I need a drink too. Something seasonal... Barkeep, a tankard of egg nog, if you please.

S29.E11: Kind Of Like Cream Cheese (11) / Still Holdin' On (12)
SVNBob replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Survivor
It could be an indication of the "gross" food challenge, and someone says the line about a delicacy they've eaten. I've heard that brains are often cheese-like, and that does get used in that challenge. -
A round of shots for everyone. And a toast to one hell of a Day.

Good summary of the actual facts, TJ. I'll add one thing and expand on another. Halcyon Days was revealed to have a protection power that shielded the target for both a Night and the following Day. (And it is implied that there is another protector out there with an even stronger power.) Not only have I hinted as to my identity in the past, but I continued to do so in this game, in every post I made, and not just the one time. The hints are not based on the shows themselves, but (one of) the comic universes that inspired the programs in question. Oh, I dropped a hint in that previous bullet point. The same kind I've been dropping throughout. So let's examine what's in question. I'll respond to what I can. I'll explain this. Those particular hints are indeed hints, but not for my identity. I was speaking directly to Biz at the time, and as such, I was hinting my suspicion of her identity. To clarify, when I posted that, I believed Biz was Zsasz. However, since then, Biz made a hint-claim at a hero I thought I knew the identity of, but the person I thought was said hero has made no counter-claim, and has in fact made statements that support her claim. Therefore I no longer think Biz is the SK, and I offer an apology. She's just a misguided hero that rushed too quick into acting against me. We really are on the same side, Biz. I don't know what else I can say to convince you of that. But the bomb I thought I had is a dud. Putting these all together because I think they're all related and very important. I wanted this to be kept quiet, but since it's already been put out there.... Yes, Athena and I are Masons. That's the real reason I asked her to be my proxy. If you believe what I've been saying about my identity, you ought to be able to determine hers too. I concede to this information. It seems valid to me too. See my apology above. It won't do nothing. It'll eliminate a Hero and allow for the possibility of 2 more kills in the night. Several people on your side of the vote must. But the people on my side don't. They must have a good reason for it. But not that one. Except if this were true, Spruce would probably be denying wd's hints and claim, and wouldn't be in on her lynch. But he's not. He hasn't made any moves to deny wd's claim, and is supporting her lynch. Therefore, this is probably the case. It is in fact what Spruce is claiming. Could he be a hero as he says? Yes. I'm not as convinced he's a hero as I am about at least 2 other people (sorry Spruce), but I am more convinced than I was when I started that lynch. I was 99.9% sure then, about 25% now. Which is about as suspicious as I am about the majority of the rest of ya'll, so that's pretty good. Not knowingly.

Not exactly. In my few seconds of searching, I think I found the same artist jessie did, Eva Cassidy. And she does a beautiful cover of the Sting song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vr0Q6fz2gw

Now that's an unexpected turn of events! This may sound a little strange, but I'm glad I failed in getting you killed Spruce. Because you've thrown a giant wrench in the works. I'd kiss you for that, but we all know I'm not into guys. Now we have a paradox. Which side is Spruce on, Biz? You said he's a Hero and that's why you started this lynch. But he's disagreeing with you, so he obviously has to be a Villain. But that's what I said, so I was telling the truth. But you started this lynch because I was Villain lying about Spruce being a Villain. Who's the real liar? Me, Spruce, or you?
-
Thanks Dougal. By reposting that section, you helped me identify another hero. That makes someone else I can trust, if only they'll switch their vote off of me this round. But I have to ask, where are you getting Constantine in this? The person "attacked" is the "man with blue eyes". By logic, he must be Spruce. But he's definitely not Constantine. Constantine has dark eyes. At least in the DCTVU he does. Besides, Constantine is someone else. So to help spell it out: Only one person actually "attacked" the blue-eyed tree. Montoya. Now, who started this attack of a lynch? Do you understand now? Biz, of course I want to save my neck, same as you. That's part of the game. True, I'm not voting based on evidence against JayKay. I'm trusting in another player because I believe I understand who they're claiming to be. And I think I understand their power, which is how I assume they got their evidence. Do I know for sure? No. Could they be wrong? Possibly. Could I have misunderstood? Absolutely. But I have to have faith in this play. And Biz, if I really wanted to deflect, I'd drop a huge bombshell. And you really don't want me to do that. I don't really want to do it either, which is one reason I haven't. But you're overplaying a bit much, so I will do it if I have to. Then we'll see who the Victor is.
-
The numbers are going against me again. Bet you're happy about that Biz. But you shouldn't count me out just yet. But then, I want you to stop counting people out, period, if I'm right. So will everyone else, if they understand what I'm implying. JayKay, just to let you know, my joining the vote for you this round has nothing to do with you voting for me last time (or this time for that matter.) As I said, I believe that wd is also hinting at her identity (and not her power, but I think I get that too after additional thought), and if I interpreted the clues correctly (always the question in these cases), I think I know her Heroic identity. As such, I was supporting her lynch regardless the target. It could have been anyone she was trying to smoke out; TJ, Spruce, Athena, etc...., it just happened to be you. It's truly not personal or revenge based, and I don't think your votes for me are either. Besides, there's obviously no way I'd support the lynch of myself. There's a couple of other people I'd switch my vote to this round instead, but again, I'm the one that's under question. Any votes I start would be highly suspect by the masses, so I can't. Dougal, you are correct. CP was eliminated by the serial killer. Here's the relevant information in question from the story. Yes, that last line is important. Not for me though. But I thought I should remind the Heroes of it. Something for additional thought. Thank you for bring that up Spruce. Everyone, please note that section of story again. Yes, one character was attacked in that Night 2 story, which we could assume is Spruce. Now note who made said attack, and equate that to the lynch itself. See what I'm saying without saying here?

Let me begin by giving kudos to Mark and Lisin for working in not only a name drop of a couple (and actually, the couple) of the Rogues, but for also mentioning an old friend of the game, What say I? What is there to say? I may have lost face and made a mistake. But who can't say that in this game? I was just more sure that Spruce was a Villain than I was of Halcyon (say 99% vs 20%). I never said Halcyon wasn't a Villain; I even said I'd support that vote if the momentum hadn't swung to the vote I started. As much as Biz is trying to build it up, there's no conspiracy here. I'd know. So applying Occam's Razor, let's try to determine what really happened. Working backwards from with Halcyon's power, which provided protection for both a Night and the following Day. Since the Spruce lynch was on Day 2 and failed, the simplest logical solution fitting the facts is that Halcyon put said protection on Spruce during Night 1. Now, why would Halcyon, a new player and (now) a known Villain, put protection on anyone? Probably because that person is also a Villain, and one that was likely to draw fire. And again I point out, on Day 1 Spruce was the person we were all questioning whether or not to target first yet again. To be precise though, Biz started us down that line of thought by claiming to see a clue and not wanting to act upon it. Followed by photo fox bringing Spruce up, and Biz giving a non-answer answer. Soon after that, Tabby mentioned a single possible clue word, and that got us, myself included, looking in a tree-ward direction. There's two ways to clear my name: Biz's way, and the non lethal one that I'd prefer. Investigate me, please. If there is still a heroic investigator in play, use your power on me if you haven't already. You'll see that I'm a Hero and that my purposes are not sinister (unlike those of aglets.) I could also use the protection, because Biz clearly has it out for me. Although it does seem odd that she didn't start a lynch right away. In fact, it sounds to me like she's planning on taking out the villains all by herself, and there's only one way she could do that.... But since it's my suspicions that are in question, I'm not going to go there now. So on to the open vote. If I'm reading things correctly (which is always the question), then wd is also hinting at her identity. And it's one I'm inclined to agree with. Therefore: 2 to David Lynch JayKay (writingdreamer, SVNBob), 6 to fight heaven and earth. (Recalculated. 14 living players, so majority is now 8.) ETA: Seems we crossed lines Biz. I was writing my defense up while you were posting.

Yes they did. Recall when Reed beat Baylor for Tribal Reward after the swap (and Rocker's booting) and sent her to Exile. He was going to choose Julie to join her, but Natalie volunteered. Those two did get a clue to an idol (Baylor by urn selection, and Natalie because Baylor shared it), and it was different from the clues seen prior; the second clues starting from the tribal flag instead of the well like the first set. So a second pair of HIIs had to have been put into play then, probably while the tribes were at the arena doing the swap. And Natalie finally decided to look for it in this episode. I personally believe the second HII that was hidden at the Blue camp was dug up by TPTB during the merge feast and reused for the HII hidden at Exile.

Remember, that's on my tab. And a beer for me as well. So, story time. The reason I planned for a proxy over the weekend. Like at least a couple others here, I'm having to work this Black weekend. So last weekend was my last opportunity this year to go to one of my favorite places, TRF. I normally go at least twice a year so this was my last opportunity for 2014. I decided to do something different this year, starting with camping on-site. Friday morning I finished packing the car and drove up to the campgrounds. Shortly after arriving, I found a good spot. Well good-ish. Just off the road in the quiet section of the grounds, and only about a minute's hike from the nearest portasan, but not the most level of spots as I would find out later. I got out of the car and started to set up camp, and that's when the weather stopped cooperating. Wind picked up a little bit and it started to sprinkle shortly after I got my foundation tarp laid out. But I still got my tent up rather quickly and with very little hassle. The air mattress was another story. The compressor I had didn't really work for the mattress, and the valve on the mattress broke so it would no longer hold air. That meant sleeping much closer to the ground, which was when I found how uneven the ground actually was. However I was thoroughly exhausted, so I was able to sleep fairly well. I do recall waking up at least once during the night, but I was able to roll over and go right back to sleep. Until it was time to wake up on Saturday and get ready for opening cannon. I got garbed up (I wear a mean kilt, if I do say so myself), and hiked my way to the opening gates with time to spare. After the earth-shattering kaboom, the day started. A couple hours later, so did the rain. And it continued to rain off and on throughout the remainder of the day, putting a damper (pun semi-intended) on the proceedings. Still I did some shopping, had some good food and drink, saw some great shows, and visited with friends throughout the site. However I did leave earlier than I intended. Between the weather and the uncomfortable ground from the night before I was rather tired. But my day was still wasn't over, even after that. I hiked back to my campsite for a little rest and some food before I had to change again. Something new is happening at the festival this year and I decided to go see... King Midas's Masquerade Ball. This was a special late-night event taking place in a new pavilion set up in the campground. Just about a five to ten minute walk from my campsite. Another reason I had picked that location.so once I was dry and rested, I changed into a different outfit (including a different kilt), put on my mask, and made my way over to the site of the ball. I arrived just as they were starting to let people in for the evening. The concept for the ball is a combination of past, present, and future; so there was a wide variety of costumes. There was even one person in a full French aristocracy dress like that of Marie Antoinette, including a white powdered wig with a model ship and a treasure chest inside it. And man, did that dude rock that dress. He really looked good, even with the full beard. It was a little hard for him to get on the dance floor though. He tended to stay off to the side while the DJ was spinning some wicked beats in between the entertainers. There were dancers, singers (well, sirens), aerialists, magicians, and clowns. Gods, satyrs, and muses. Wine, women, and song; the whole nine. Even the thunderstorm around midnight couldn't intrude on the rest of the evening. And when the festivities were over, I made my way back to my tent and fell asleep. Sunday morning, I broke camp and headed home. Once there, I went back to sleep until I had to get up for work again. That's when I could finally check back in here on what had (and hadn't) transpired. So that's what I was doing away this weekend.

Barkeep, put Spruce's drink on my tab. And the next one too. The least I could do, right? I agree with this. So maybe post the Day story Friday night/Saturday morning?

If you've got a PS 1 or 2, Square did release FF2 alongside FF1 as a remastered Playstation Final Fantasy Origins edition. FF4 got a similar release packaged with Chrono Trigger as Final Fantasy Chronicles, and FF5 and FF6 were released as Final Fantasy Anthology. It looks like they're all available from Amazon. Unfortunately, FF3 was not included in any of these releases.

This isn't either of those. I just didn't have time to explain before, and wanted to get this second vote started before Night falls again. Now I have the time to explain my theory.During the first Day discussion, the main point of talk was us circling around the idea of lynching Spruce first...again, putting him in danger...again. Now look at the Night story after that. One character gets surrounded by danger, i.e. the villians. Which character was that? Laurel. Mark likes the story to reflect the gameplay. Look back at the old game he linked to to see that. So I took the two parallels of thread and story as a connection. Which lead me to think Spruce is Laurel and could be trusted as a Hero. And I wasn't going to participate in any lynches for him if I could avoid it. Until Day 2 broke. Laurel had been turned to Team Villian. Which, if I'm right (and that is the question here), that means Spruce was recruited and thus an unavoidable target. And at this point, he's really the only target I have any real confidence in, well, targetting. HD could be a Villian too. For all I know, HD's the one that recruited Spruce in the first place. I'm not exactly a sage after all. And if the vote goes that way, I'll be fine with that. I'm willing to change my vote to HD to complete the lynch if need be. All I'm saying is that it would have been wrong to lynch Spruce yesterDay, but not toDay. Does that make sense?
