  1. There's an even more reasonable entry fee for the upcoming 5E. $0. Wizards is going to be releasing Basic D&D at the same time as the Starter set, as a free PDF download from their site The first version will allow players to make a character from the 4 core classes (Fighter, Mage, Cleric, Rogue) in the 4 starting races (human, dwarf, elf, halfling) at any level from 1 to 20. After the PHB gets released, the Basic edition will get updated with some monsters, treasure, and rules for DMs. One could assume that they might be able to combine the last play-test release of Next (if they have it) to Basic D&D to infer character creation for the expanded classes and races. and update it with at least the release of the PHB.
  2. I'll agree that the fault in the main Villain team losing this game was bad luck and our (ok, my) own mistakes, and nothing to do with balance. Hindsight and all that. I didn't think I was overplaying until after Mark got twigged. Then I realized I had. So I really can only blame myself. But I'll blame Mark anyway; it's more fun that way.
  3. Good. That plan did work. Just not in time for it to be useful to the people that enacted it. The other half of that plan was killing Spruce the first night, to make it look like he was on to something with the clues. If only he hadn't been a kamikaze.
  4. Thanks guys. I'm no longer at work, and have slept since my last post. So I'm feeling a lot less sad. More wistful now. Anyway, back to the silliness!
  5. Since it's Night, it's time for some non-game talk. There is one subject I need to talk about, and I think you all know what it is. Even though we had over a month to prepare for this day, it's still hard to deal with it. I think all the words that could be said were...especially up to the final minutes today, so I won't repeat them. But it still hurts. And part of me knows that it's silly, to be in mourning for something as ephemeral as a website, a thing at never existed as something tangible. But more of me knows it's not silly. So the sadness hits me in waves. Which is a little bad since I'm at work right now. But I've been doing this job for years and am a fair-to-middling actor, so I can turn on the autopilot and the "sincerity" to get through when I need to. One of the biggest things that has helped though? This very game. The one we're in the middle of right now. Playing it forced me to come here more and more, and that's helped me make the transition to thinking of this place more and more as home. Not the same home we've left behind, but home nonetheless. Helps that we know the new landlords too. So a round of drinks for everyone, and one last toast. To the TWoP forums. Gone, but never to be forgotten!
  6. *floats in* *looks at the clock* yeah...it's time. *grabs a 40 from the bar* *opens it* *pours it out* *cries* *floats out*
  7. *floats in* You do know that an mmmbop is a unit of time, right? *floats out*
  8. When talking about TV affected by 9/11, my mind immediately goes to the cases of two reality shows that started in that September, and the different courses they eventually took: The Amazing Race, and The Mole. TAR 1 premiered on September 5th, 2001, and the starting line was New York City. Episode 2 was originally scheduled to air the following week on the 12th, but understandably it did not. However, they did start airing again the following week, on the 19th, and continued on to the end. Final result for the season; a one-time preemption and only a one week delay in ending. And with the ratings just good enough (and possibly with the help of the first TARCon), they got a second season. Then a third. Then more. Then the first Reality show Emmy, Then 4 more of those Emmys in a row. All the while building its audience. Thus it still airs to this day. In contrast, the second season of The Mole started airing at the end of that same September. However, after airing only 3 episodes, it was pulled from the schedule entirely. Eventually, it was burned off in the summer of 2002. That dealt a devastating blow to the show. The audience had dwindled. The 2 celebrity seasons that aired year later didn't help either. The Mole quietly died. It came back the once in 2008, but it never really recovered. Which is a shame, because it was very good, even the bad seasons. The two shows each had elements that were related to the situation. TAR had lots of international travel, and thus lots of commercial aircraft, which could be something of a trigger. However, The Mole's central concept of "there is a traitor among us" was even more of one. Understandably, it was not conducive to the zeitgeist. But I have to end this with what I have to assume is a 9/11 reaction, and one of the cheesiest (and therefore best) ones: the lead-in to the results of Survivor 6 (peaking at around 2 minutes and 23 seconds)
  9. Actually, I don't think you'd need to do either. Go for the somewhat easier middle ground. Most cable networks are in corporate families along side broadcast networks. The Fox channels are the easiest to identify as related; ABC and ESPN are owned by Disney; NBC, SyFy, USA are Universal properties, and CBS owns CW and Showtime. So 4 teams*, named after the Big 4, but consisting of stars from members of families of networks. Which would actually make things a little easier overall. 4 teams leads to a consistent bracketing system; A vs B, C vs D, winner vs winner. The only restrictions I would add would be: The team captain has to be from the Big 4 network. He or she may be the only person from the network on the team, but there has to be at least that one. only 1 male and 1 female ex-pro-athlete from ESPN for the ABC team only 1 male and 1 female pro-wrestler from the WWE for the NBC team (corporate partnership) And only reality show hosts for any team; using contestants could be a way of getting ringers in. *There is even the possibility of 6 teams. Add the HBO/Turner network family as #5 and a catch-all team from any unaffiliated networks and PBS for #6.
  10. Damnit. I need a beer. *grabs a Boho Black*
  11. Whoa there! Just because I questioned someone's logic, and pointed out that their behavior looked suspicious to me, I get lynched?!? Ok, I can see that now. I'll concede that point. I still think the overall clue is reaching, if it's really a clue. As I was saying, number clues would seem to be the easiest to fabricate, and they would have to point to because she's the only player with numbers in her name. And doing that would be a decent tactic for a villain to use to hide for at least one round. Multiple rounds if you can get an innocent third-party, like ME, lynched too. Like this: 1 @MarkHB (SVNBob) 4 to eliminate. 5 SVNBob (MarkHB, RA, Dougal, Helena, CuriousParker) 0 to drown in a flood of beer. You jumped on me rather quickly Mark. Helena I could understand, but not your reaction. Seems a bit trigger happy to me. There's still time for you guys to change your minds and switch your votes, or just withdraw them if you want.
  12. That's a bit of a reach. In that section you're pointing out, I see only one set of 2, then a set of 1. Where's the other set of 2? And if it's supposed to point to jessie, shouldn't it be a 2, a 1, and another 1, not a 2? It's also a bit convenient, isn't it? jessie's got the only name with any numbers in it, so any "clue" based on numbers would point at her only. It's like you're trying to make people suspicious of her.
  13. Which one? Both shows were cheesy '80s toons.
  14. B is . Whoever gets A can have the next turn.
  15. No, that's ok. There was a clue in that section of story too, but since it was Night story, we haven't been allowed to discuss it until now (per the rules. No game talk between Night X and Day X+1, only off-topic silliness like the bar. All game talk must be between Day X and Night X.) So, if "Professor Cleve" is a clue, who could it be pointing to?
  16. It also means that the bar is officially open. Belly up and pick your poisons!
  17. No. Woo got only one vote; Tasha's, which we saw inside the voting booth. If Woo'd received any more than that, we would have seen Jeff read them to stretch out the drama.
  18. And as I said above, there are several K-dramas with Spanish subtitles on Dramafever. I imagine the crossover potential there is with a telenovela loving audience.
  19. (Never mind) I'm not sure we really have enough to go on just yet.
  20. Actually, if this was Looney Tunes, Tony would be Daffy Duck to Spencer's Bugs. Kass is Elmer. And to complete the analogy, Woo is Porky, the character delegated as Daffy's sidekick.
  21. No, Woo's Bunny all the way. Just a very athletic one, which is why he stayed in place of the Bear. Normally for an F2 season (which has basically been confirmed this season is), the normal plan is Dispose of all the opposition Cull the alliance to the 4: Fox, Bear, Goat, Bunny. At F4, cut the Bunny. At the FIC, Fox and Bear battle each other, and the winner boots the loser and takes the Goat. If the Goat wins, then they're basically choosing the winner. Victory for the Fox or Bear. There are three ways this plan has gone awry Tony's jumped the gun and finished Step 2 first. Granted, part of that was because of a bigger "problem"; Spencer. He (and Tasha, yes, while she was still in the game) spoiled Step 1. So the alliance kind of had to complete Step 2 first. And with Spencer winning at F5, the alliance partially panicked. If they'd stuck with the plan, Bunny Woo should have been cut here. But Woo has the better chance of besting Spencer, thus allowing them to finally complete Step 1. The other main problem is that they don't know it's F2 this time. They seem to be operating with an F3 plan: Dispose of all the opposition Cull the alliance to the 4: Fox, Bear, Goat, Bunny (or second Goat) At FIC, Fox and Bear battle each other, and the winner boots the loser and takes the Goat(s) and Bunny Victory for the Fox or Bear. (or Bunny if the Fox/Bear is really an Ox). Again, with Step 2 completed and Spencer spoiling Step 1, Tony moved correctly on to Step 3 and eliminated the Bear. Which makes sense. Other than the opposing Fox Spencer, Bear Trish was the only person liable to garner more votes than Fox Tony. It helped that Bunny Woo is more likely than Trish to defeat Spencer in an IC. Slippery as an eel? Having nine lives, like a cat? ... Hard to kill, like a cockroach? Yeah, I like the last one. I'd use the Cat personally. Less negative connotations that way. Plus there's the "landing on his/her feet" adage bonus if they make it to FTC and/or win.
  22. PM Confirmation time! If you've got yours, detailing your side and any powers you might have, check in. Just say that you have it, and nothing more. Like this: Got my PM! Not just an example, as I do actually have mine. Looks like the bar is ready. Got the rum from before, put in some beer from my stock, and what accoutrements and supplies I could salvage from the other place.
  23. If anything, that might have helped him with the jury. He was poking fun at Public Enemy #1, Kass. Whatever ill-will Kass might have wanted to throw on Tony, doing that to her in front of them probably reversed it.
  24. It could be a victory jump. As in he was the last man standing and was celebrating beating the odds again with a flip into the water. I would need to look at the clip again to see if anyone else is still standing when that happens.
