  1. For me, the Oxnard performance this afternoon (3 pm Pacific) is like the Emmy nomination announcement. I’ll be distracted until we see something.
  2. You’re right. I wonder what life I the Kalina household was like as VK’s weight increased.
  3. OMG. Just watched the Alumni Workshop from S12. Kelli talks about how opinionated the group was and so she invited them to the evening’s practice. After the practice, Kelli invited the alumni in closed door session to express concerns. Momma Kalina forcefully states, “Tasha...weight! Stephanie...weight!” I about lost my shit. How did this woman let her daughter gain 11 pounds and have the audacity to shit on Kelli for cutting her?
  4. I am with you. Jalyn’s removal from Show Group was shocking. I had counted on Rachel W leaving to work full-time as a talking head. The notion that she might occupy front central may be a tipping point for me. Side note: Watched S11 last night. I was surprised by how much more I enjoyed K&J’s deliberations at Valley Ranch.
  5. That was she in S12. In S13, she was shown flubbing the kick line in rehearsals the same evening that Savannah and Tara made errors in sidelines.
  6. I hope Patti gets her guest Emmy for this.
  7. I agree. I think they finally optimized Maddie—right hair, right bod, right attitude. Watch Amy after the long riffs when the ladies hold poses.
  8. Yep. When point conversations turn to Amy, her attention span is at the forefront of my mind. She’s a great dancer, but seems to just lose it at times. That’s fine for middle or back of the pack; not good for point.
  9. I wonder what impact, if any, Amy messing up in front of a huge audience will have for her position.
  10. Lord, I hope this is the culmination of Kelli’s Queen obsession. Chica has been fangirling them since Bohemian Rhapsody came out. It was cute for a while, but come on now!
  11. I agree. Their performance of Power at Oxnard the year prior was equally rough.
  12. Is it me or does this angle make Brennan look “enhanced?”
  13. Another item that comes to mind is the embarrassment of riches K&J had in S13. Clearly, Lily and Tara would have been great DCCs for the season. Many have expressed anger about their cuts. In order to keep them, though, others must go. Determining who I’d cut has been a fun mental exercise. I am Team Brennan all the way. I believe her spot in S12 was stolen by the dropouts. As a result, I think of her as a vet. Also, I believe the rookie SG were of sufficient quality to keep them. Further, I believe persistence should be rewarded. So, I’d cut the low-end first year TCCs first. So, I’d likely cut Taylor J to keep Tara and would have cut Lily. Lily’s smile sort of creeps me out and she doesn’t seem ridiculously impressive. Have you all played this game? If Victoria hadn’t gained weight, which current team member would have paid the price?
  14. I agree with you. That’s why it’s hard to vilify Victoria. The girl was dealing with a lot of pressure and she must have known how her behavior was impacting others. I do wonder what role, if any, did Tina play in Victoria’s treatment of Jinelle.
  15. After binging S13 yesterday—watching some of the episodes twice—it has been hard to organize my thoughts on all that was shown. It makes me wish I could buy Shelly, Jinelle, Kelli, Judy, Weatherman Scott, Tina, Dayton, Kitty and Victoria drinks (separately, of course). It would be interesting to hear each point of view on last season provided I could get them drunk enough to spill. Dayton Her audition is very strange to me. There are so many dynamics in play. Coach’s daughter, introversion, memory challenges, power challenges, technique expertise, sexy bod in the uniform, and low impact. Everyone keeps talking about “Finals Dayton” but the clips of Dayton dancing in finals were to me neither impactful nor natural. Weatherman Scott I love this on air hottie, but his assessment of Dayton and rebuke of Victoria seems very planned to me. I’d seen his scenes a few times before and nothing occurred to me. Watching him yesterday, an idea clicked, “he is on Team Shelly.” They must be friends as his narrative was no more based in reality (“I could put Dayton in a uniform tomorrow.”) than what K&C kept saying or ignoring about Victoria. Either that or someone in his world egged him on. Tina What a crazy bitch this woman must be! What I saw from Kelli through the season was a love of VK, but also a profound empathy for what TK was putting VK through. In the evaluation clip with Denise we saw on CMT.com, Kelli introduces the idea of pressure from home. Kelli keeps telling VK to be herself, and finally, Victoria is at once afraid to tell her mom that she didn’t make it and wants so badly to be hugged by her mom. In the clips we’ve seen of Tina on the show across seasons, she appears to be an intense alumna with very high standards. This leaves an impression that the lady is toxic, but may have no idea how crazy she is. Kelli Good God, lady, what did you commit to? Those looks you gave VK during evaluations were heartbreaking. You’d move from standard Kelli doing her job to quiet, pleading Kelli in your eyes. It was though you needed Victoria to forgive you for doing your job. God bless you. For one reason or another, this child went off the rails, and you felt compelled to protect her despite the real hit to your credibility doing so created. It seems that your best friend is a crazy bitch, and you were doing your best to deal with it. Shelly You seem like the most authentic one out there, and how difficult all of this must have been for you.
  16. Heck, take VK off the table. Seriously, both Rachels beat Jalyn for Show Group? This is some serious bullsugar.
  17. Has anyone seen any video of Denise Dicharry’s sideline from S13 performed at a game? It was so fun and jazzy, but I can’t imagine it being used in a game.
  18. Binged S13 today. Does anyone have background on Maddie’s place in the triangle. When Judy announces the formation she put Maddie in Lacey’s place. They danced like that for the balance of the episode, but was altered to the final formation by later episodes. Was this an honest mistake? Or did they think Lacey would enjoy a different position?
  19. I love these videos from 2002. It is particularly poignant as we see what a DCC routine for “Baby, I’m a Star” looked like then and how it compares to last season’s choreography. I miss dominant, mouthy Judy. Do you think she’s getting too old for this sugar?
  20. Goodness, we need a cut, point girl information, podcast info, or something else to be announced. Churning Victoria’s fitness to serve and nepotism can only go on so long.
  21. Oxnard is in two weeks. If we don’t know the front of the pyramid/triangle by then, we should have a strong indication based upon the performances there barring a Jenna-level misstep or injury.
  22. I have always found interesting that I never saw an LGBT charity for My Cause, My Boots (and please inform me if someone has). It’s amazing to me that in the years they’ve done it that no one would want to bring attention to such a charity in support of a gay brother or sister. I mention this as potential further evidence of the cultural crackdown on the DCC, and why I think there is a story to be told.
  23. It’s not clear that K&J would be concerned about a PR nightmare at this point. Ultimately, they serve the NFL fans. Only they would be able to force a change. My post was to refute the idea that black ladies looked better in the old cut and thus, had a greater likelihood of making the squad in the 70s and 80s. My point was that then, the technical bar was lower and that ladies’ aesthetics and ambassadorship potential were more important in that even novice dancers could master the more basic choreography of the era. Thus, it was easier to field a diverse team. There are several barriers to entry to becoming a DCC—financial, time, DCC style mastery, physical—that seem unworthy of the effort to some POCs.
