  1. What chemistry? All I saw was a bunch of posturing.
  2. Yeah, but remember...SHE didn't bring it up. The grandfather did. She ran off to smoke from the stress and really her only contribution to the conversation was to explain *why* the grandfather was being so hostile (and she was trying to frame it nicely).
  3. To be fair, my son was 3, my daughter IS 3, I've spent a lot of time recently around kids who are 3, and I've never seen a single one of them (many of whom are ridiculously spoiled just given the area I live in) act like GG did in that episode. She was pure insanity.
  4. I don't know about it really being of "that" world. In MY world, you don't go to someone's home, ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TIME, without a host/hostess gift. And I ain't no Huntzberger. What's funny is how after Rory left to live with her grandparents, she really did get an education on how to run the social events, etc.
  5. Also, Emily knew who Kirk was. He showed her houses. Then she was like, "Who is this guy?!" Oh, and sewers were already addressed season 1. So why that stupid and pointless (and now inconsistent) storyline? Oh, yeah, to match all the other stupid and pointless and inconsistent storylines.
  6. I wonder if it ended (the wishy-washy behavior) with Logan because Rory was older and wiser OR (and this is my theory) because Logan was the first guy Rory pursued. Dean went after her. Jess went after her. Dean 2.0 still went after her. Logan...Logan SHE had to go after. When you actively choose and pursue someone, I think you tend to be more invested AND there is a reason you go after them in the first place.
  7. Yup. Amazing he was so cheesed when he pretty much went out of his way to create the reputation that would make someone think he started some crap. He was always. Starting. Crap.
  8. Yeah. That was super not cool. But it kind of gives you an insight of what Rory really thinks of Jess.
  9. He was ok with prom, but he didn't want to help the band set up or stay for their sets, so I don't know how that is being supportive.
  10. If you do those moments, you have to do every single moment he was dickish about anything else Rory liked. The keg party, The winter carnival, Her friends. Her mother. Her grandparents. Etc, etc, etc...you know, things that Dean made an effort with.
  11. You know, I have watched every episode of this show to a degree my wife finds beyond abnormal but I still cannot figure out the details of Emily/Richard's falling out with Lorelai or what the exact problem was. Sometimes she says she had no voice and was ignored. Sometimes she says she was suffocated by expectations she couldn't fulfill (though then we hear she's at the top of her class, etc). And, btw, if Chilton is such a muckity muck "it" school in Hartford, why didn't Lorelai go there? Seems like Richard knew the headmaster pretty well, etc.
  12. Yes. One of my favorite Logan moments is when he admits to all that (so he's not unaware) and explains to Rory that she also comes from a world of privilege. Totally calls her out. It's awesome. This is not an unpopular opinion (I hope), but I really am enjoying discussing this show with y'all. Just found this forum a couple of days ago and it's just been a delight. Thank you!
  13. My father says Lorelai says and thinks she did it all on her own and was so independent, but in the back of her mind she always knew she had her parents' money backing her JIC so it was not so hard to be so 'brave.'
  14. It doesn't usually drag. There are lots of moments that make you smile-laugh. You know that smile-laugh thing? Where you smile instead of laughing but you mean it as a laugh. Or a chuckle. The fact that so many different kinds of people enjoy it. Heck, even my 70 year old Indian engineer dad liked the show.
  15. Oh, yeah. If I met Lorelai in real life, I would be thinking, "This lady is just...too...much." It's overwhelming and she has that showboaty grandstanding gimme gimme gimme attention queen bee thing going on that I can't stand to be around (since I was a kid - seen it in guys and girls). Don't get me started on how weird and creepy it was that she invited Dean over for that movie night. On the surface it seems nice and harmless, but edging in on her daughter's fledgling crush/relationship is just over the top in the "I must be involved in everything" philosophy Lorelai generally subscribes to.
  16. Oh, I agree she decided not to like him. But that was *after* he was rude to her twice. Rewatch it. There is nothing unfriendly in the way she treats him in the diner the first day and at her house on day 2.
  17. Jess didn't know that. She sees him at the diner and is friendly - blows her off rudely. She tries again at her house - is rude again...then the whole tirade thing happens. Then she's all Lorelai nutty "I told you so" blah blah.
  18. Yeah. the town was pretty down on him, but that was only after he went around stealing baseballs and gnomes, etc. We didn't really see any town opinion on him prior to his tomfoolery and petty crime. I don't blame him for leaving. That town pretty much gives you one chance to make an impression and then never changes their mind. I just recently rewatched the episode in which he comes to town. He is immediately rude to Luke. He's immediately rude to Lorelai (who actually gives him not one, but TWO chances to have a reasonable, non-jerky conversation with her before she goes off on her tirade about how 'lucky' he is). I'm an advocate for kids, but 17 years old is old enough to know better. The only person he's not immediately a jerk to is Rory, but he rectifies that later once he gets her. Then he can't bother to be interested in anything or anyone she cares about. How he talks to Clara is pretty disgusting, too. If he wasn't reasonably good-looking, I don't think as many people would have considered being Team Jess. I also agree with the posters who said that Dean turned into a scary, obsessive whiny baby way too often.
  19. Jess wasn't just a jerk to Rory. He was a jerk to everyone all the time. And we never ever saw that that changed. He simply wasn't on screen long enough after his miraculous transformation to really see it. Anything we did seem him do is simply basic decency. And I guess I know too many people who have had really sucky childhoods (way worse than what we're given for his) who aren't total dicks to everyone.
  20. I have to agree he got better for the 5 seconds we saw him here and there. But his suspicious, unexplained off-screen "growth" is as lamely convenient as it is unlikely.
  21. Everyone loves Richard. The guy who lets his mother act perfectly horribly to his wife. The guy who rudely rants about how Dean isn't good enough for Rory (bc money, grades, legacy, culture/different worlds), but then loses his mind when the Huntzbergers do the same to her for pretty much the same reasons. The guy who treats his wife like crap whenever he's in a bad mood. The guy who stabs his partner in the back to get with the guy who stabbed him. The guy who rather immorally uses his position as insurer of a business to blackmail it into ruining someone else's event so he can have some totally pointless last minute party...and then giggles about it. This is not a good person.
  22. Tick, tick, tick boom is one of my favorite episodes. I agree with those who say that Rory at Yale is a snooze fest.
  23. Zach is a rude, dumb, slovenly man-child who can't sing.
  24. Trying to research it only cemented how truly terrible it was. And why the heck does Rory have that awful garish makeup on? It looks so bad. Just from the very first scene of Winter. She looks way better in Handmaid's Tale. So it's not that she aged badly. Just looks like she let my 3 year old daughter do her makeup. Blindfolded. I said this in another thread, but making Michel gay was lazy, lame, and tired. I hate that they did this.
  25. I like how when Jess does a normal, considerate thing that all non-psycho people would do, people fall all over themselves to congratulate him.
