She suffers from the Dunning-Kruger Effect.  When you are too dumb to realize you are dumb.

In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of low-ability people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence.[1]

There’s a lot of that going around!  ?

I switched to ABC for 15 seconds and they were all lined up at several tables. Why so many of them?

Good Grief, it looked like a telethon!

Yeah, way too many people.  Unless ...... it was a cunning plan to hear less of the ladies from The View!

Holy wow, ABC has 17 talking heads at 4 separate desks. If NutMeg has pundinted I missed it. Just spotted Ahbby, didn't catch what she said, a couple sentences and she was gone. How can a field of 17 not greatly dilute each one's opportunities to contribute? Even tho I was looking forward to it, not sticking around for this ...

I guess the number of people will keep the amateurs out of action.  A good thing, perhaps.  I was flipping around & MM & AH only said a couple of sentences, as far as I heard.

I think Dylan was talking to her mom and in the process of reflective listening Mia filled in what she ‘thought’ Dylan was saying.  Children want to please their parents and agreeing with them is common whether they do or not.  A ball gets rolling downhill and often cannot be stopped.  The child can create a false memory if the incident/conversation grows and is repeated often.

Ronan is several years younger than Dylan.  He did not coach her.

I don't think anyone is saying that Ronan coached her.  They are saying an idea was planted & was misinterpreted.

The Emmys were awarded for the show that was on 20 years ago, and I’m not sure Candice was ever much of an actor.

Wow.  Guess all of those Emmy voters were wrong - five times. Maybe she just lost all of her talent because she's, well, old.

Yes, they were wrong & she's not a good actor.  I've seen crap performances win several times (Julia Roberts, Katherine Heigl)  She was good in "Miss Congeniality" though - her finest work, in my opinion.  LOL

I'm sure she'll be well-behaved there unlike on The View, but I wouldn't have any interest in hearing her thoughts on Ground Hog Day, much less election results.

Depends on who else is on the panel.  Anyone competent will cut her down to size in a hurry.

Nutmeg:  "It's too late.  The cast has been dyed (died?)".   Joy interjected "The die has been cast" but Meggie just ignored her.

OMG!  ???. That is so funny!  So much for higher education.

That seems a bit harsh for a show that won a slew of awards including 3 Emmys to Candice Bergen.

To each his own, but the acting is very stilted and amateurish.  The Emmys were awarded for the show that was on 20 years ago, and I’m not sure Candice was ever much of an actor.

I get that the show needs money, but with the amount of commercials that we get I was hoping we'd be spare from the VyD commercial.

I find that the show is very difficult to watch "live" - too many commercials, too frequently.  I get side-tracked with doing laundry.

I really think that’s what the “reboot” should have been.  Us watching Avery navigate Wolf Network as Murphy’s kid and living at home with Mom.

Absolutely!  I would watch Avery, for sure!  The rest of the cast doesn't seem to be able to act their ways out of paper bags.

The one and only thing I liked better about TWOP was most shows would not rate their own sub forum and they'd get archived after being off air for a while.

I found that there was much more to discuss when there was, as an example, a forum for all sci fi shows and one topic per any show that didn't have its own forum.  Whatever raised to the top of a page would create discussion.

I'm wondering why they don't archive the old stuff.  For example, The View, has episodes going way back.  Nobody is going to comment on them.  Just keep the last 2 or 3 months up.  So hard to plow through when you're looking for something.

I've seen lots of posts over the past year or so saying that Ana never got on board because she isn't interested in relocating. Then today someone linked to the article announcing her Fridays gig which mentioned that the parties couldn't agree on a full-time salary. Sorta gets my hopes up that it might eventually happen.

I hope she's not interested in full-time at this train wreck.  Fridays are just enough, and she can do reputable shows as well.

  12. Pretty good episode.  I think I'm watching more for the repartee, more than the design.  The bakery was cute, but I couldn't help thinking how difficult if would be to keep the place clean.  Can you imagine customers sitting on the banquette & dropping food?  The house was fine, not really my personal taste, but nice.  Those McMansions must be murder to decorate and not have them look like a giant banquet hall.

Unfortunately I am still not feeling the show either, and thought this episode was cringe worthy. Bad writing and bad acting. The only character that I like is Avery, and I used to love all of the main characters. I came across the first season on DVD in a cupboard while fall cleaning, and am going to try to watch a few episodes to remind myself what an Emmy winning show it used to be. I know remakes generally are a few steps down in quality from the original, but for me the differences are huge. Already six episodes in, and I am not seeing any improvement from episode one.

I was thinking that it had improved very slightly with the latest episode, not as preachy.  I find the acting very stilted.  They are like high school drama students waiting for a reaction from the audience after every line.  Maybe the directing is bad?  Maybe a combination of bad writing/acting/directing.  I have barely smiled, let alone laughed out loud.  anyway, I have nothing going on Thursdays at 9:30, so will probably try again, but I don't know for how long.

  14. Just saw an old one.  Boston brides - the Harvard Ph.D/cheerleader won.  Didn't like her or her dress or her bacon bar.  There was Anjali - wanted to be a princess, wedding in a castle.  Her groom was a state trooper & his uniform looked sort of SS.  One had a wedding in a back yard - meh.  The other had her wedding in a maritime museum.  I think I liked her the best.  Some brides didn't like the 'dead' whales - sigh.

I don't think Oprah's southern accent is an affect since she grew up in Mississippi and Tennessee. She learned to speak without an apparent accent when she was an on air journalist. The southern accent is her real way of speaking.

She seems to use her southern accent when she is trying to relate to the common folk.
