I guess KLG wants to continue with her 'red-hot" Movie career! :)  I am surprised tho that she wants to leave, this show definatly upped her visibility...she will stay until April.  Personally, I would like to see Jenna Bush Hager take the spot, she & Hoda get along and have fun together, and Jenna has a nice personality that translates well on-screen.

Yes, we all know her plate is overflowing.  I don't think it matters that much who takes her place.  Somebody with some wit, hopefully.

To base criticisms on this is just age shaming.

Oh, please!  More like bad actor shaming.  I must say that Candice has never been much of an actor, but Frank, Corky, and the rest of the team are nothing to write home about either.  However - I will say that probably some of their stilted delivery is due to poor writing & direction.

I found about half of this episode a warm throwback to the original show - the part with the animal shelter and Murphy adopting a disabled dog. That felt very much like the sort of material they used to write when they weren't doing something topical. With this reboot, it feels like every story is something topical and/or political. So Avery's story didn't sit well with me because it felt very contrived and derivative. They ought to do more episodes with stories that aren't about politics or current events.

Yes, I know the original show was very political but it feels much more incessant now.

I feel that this is the problem with this show.

Guess who got a Golden Globe Nomination:

COMEDY OR MUSICAL SERIES ACTRESS (previous winner: Rachel Brosnahan)
    Kristen Bell, The Good Place
    Candice Bergen, Murphy Brown
    Alison Brie, GLOW
Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
    Debra Messing, Will & Grace

Pretty low standards, judging by this list.  Her performance on this piece of **** is so not worthy of an award.

Way too many people have this "it is my day, my way" line of thinking when in reality, this is a CHOICE you are making, no one gets to fund it either through a "Jack and Jill Shower" (don't ask), a cash bar, a GoFundMe account to pay for the wedding or outright asking for cash for a wedding gift.  You want a party?  You fund it yourselves.  You can't afford it?  Oh well - go find a judge to marry you and go to dinner afterwards.

A friend of mine was invited to a wedding.  They waited and waited at the venue.  Apparently, the wedding party and parents had gone to a restaurant to eat!  There were only a few snacks at the venue.

The cash bar doesn’t bother me.  I’m not keen on the piss-up at a wedding.  There’s usually wine at the table & no charge cocktails before.  (I have some older relatives who can’t control themselves around free booze.  One wife thought she would solve the problem by making her husband the designated driver.  Guess who was searching for a DD at leaving time?)

Especially after the Acosta brouhaha a few weeks ago. Welcome to how this White House thinks journalists ought to be treated? I can see how Murphy would be scared. They can't do their jobs if they are worried about their safety or being mugged.

I don’t think Acosta was beaten up.  Having your credentials revoked is nowhere near a mugging.  I suppose one could say the hyperbole was to make a point, but it was overdone, and inexcusably not done well.  The way Murphy was portrayed reacting to Frank’s situation didn’t ring true.  The show can’t have it both ways.  Is she a tough news person or not?

I'm not sure anyone would have wanted the show to spend tw episodes on this issue.

    One was more than enough.

The show must have done something right! We are still talking about it.

VSEs and teachable moments aren't always for the adults, or the people who are home to watch daytime TV (I'd strongly disagree that Dr. Phil should be regarded an expert in anything VSE these days).

The #metoo moments from Grace (from Will and Grace) and Murphy [Brown] were different situations that younger viewers (and even older viewers) may have experienced and were not sure what to do with a situation that happened decades ago. The recent VSE Thanksgiving episode put ICE right in the middle of Thanksgiving, reminding everyone that these situations are very real, and happening. I'm glad they are back, glad a generation of kids, teens and young adults are seeing these [fictionalized] scenarios played out and I hope they are spawning discussion and action within their own lives.

I doubt that younger viewers watch these shows.

I think at this point with shows like this, or other stuff that's liberal-leaning, these guys aren't expecting the opposite side to become aware, or, for that matter, even watch the show. I think they're focused on reminding those who share their political persuasions that they're not alone in feeling this way about these issues, and want to continue talking about this stuff in ways that can keep supporters aware and motivated to keep fighting/calling/writing/voting/what have you. And if somebody whose politics don't align with this show does happen to watch, and does happen to change their views a little in the process, well, then, hey, bonus :).

You do make a good point that many here are already up on their political news and whatnot, so indeed, it's not like this show's telling us about something we don't already know is happening. But it's one thing to read about stuff like this happening. It's another to actually see it. Yeah, in this case, it's fictional, but judging from the reactions of many here, it gave us the same kind of gut punch we'd have were we witnessing a real life scenario of this sort. Maybe that's another point they're trying to make, too-these people being affected by these issues don't get to escape or turn off this stuff at the end of the day, so why should the rest of us?

I get the argument about wanting sitcoms to stay sitcoms, but if it's a sitcom that's known for having a political bent and tackling big issues already, well...

Point taken.  I guess I’m just annoyed at the lack of  laughs, because I do enjoy political humor!

There are ways to do it which are not as heavy handed and maudlin as this.  See a previous commenter's reference to a Thanksgiving episode during MB's original run.  No, MB has never shied away from serious issues, but they used to handle them with a defter touch.  And since the entire point of this forum is to express our opinions, I stand by mine.

". ..... why I think this show is important. It's always been preachy but we need it even more now."

Totally in the minority here, but I personally don't need it even more now.  I don't need to be beaten over the head with politically relevant problems in one of the very few "comedies" I watch.  I read and support plenty of liberal news sources and am quite aware of these problems.  I need some laughter in my life, undiluted by misery.  All season I've felt it goes overboard on the politics

Yup .....  I am up on current events, so I don’t need this shoved down my throat on a sitcom.   As stated before, they are preaching to the choir & nobody on the opposite side is going to have an epiphany.   I was quite optimistic at the beginning of the episode, but it went off the rails quickly.  Murphy’s rant at the end was cringeworthy.

As far as expressing opinions, I have “ignored” and people can feel free to do the same.  I started watching because I enjoyed the previous series, and hope springs eternal .....
