  1. The Cable Live +3 ratings are in for "Still Gotta Mean Something": “The Walking Dead” moved into first place among adults 18-49 for the week of March 26 thanks to delayed viewing. After three days of catchup, “The Walking Dead” has a 4.1 rating among adults 18-49. That moves it ahead of the primetime NCAA men’s Final Four game (3.3, unchanged) between Kansas and Villanova. (The other Final Four contest wasn’t in primetime and therefore isn’t included here; it would likely rank third in adults 18-49 and second in viewers.) The Kansas-Villanova game remained the most-watched on cable with 10.78 million viewers. “The Walking Dead” is at 9.29 million, adding a little under 3 million people over three days. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/dvr-ratings/cable-live-3-ratings-for-march-26-april-1-2018/ And here are the Live + Same Day and Live +3 ratings for Season 8 so far: 10-22-17 “Mercy” 11.439 million; 15.047 million 10-29-17 “The Damned” 8.923 million; 12.247 million 11-05-17 “Monsters” 8.519 million; 12.086 million 11-12-17 “Some Guy” 8.688 million; 12.361 million 11-19-17 “The Big Scary U” 7.845 million; not reported 11-26-17 “The King, The Widow, & Rick” 8.282 million; 11.878 million 12-03-17 “Time For After” 7.468 million; 10.737 million 12-10-17 “How It’s Gotta Be” 7.885 million; 11.510 million 02-25-18 “Honor” 8.282 million; not reported 03-04-18 “The Lost or the Plunderers” 6.820 million; 9.894 million 03-11-18 “Dead or Alive Or” 6.604 million; not reported 03-18-18 “The Key” 6.663 million; 9.761 million 03-25-18 “Do Not Send Us Astray” 6.774 million; not reported 04-01-18 “Still Gotta Mean Something” 6.295 million 9.291 million
  2. Some interesting TV stats: In the adults 18-49 demographic, the sweet spot for ad sales on broadcast and a number of cable networks, the top group is even smaller. Just 79 shows — a scant 2.58 percent — managed a 1.0 rating (roughly 1.28 million people in that age range), which is an OK-but-not-great mark for a network show and pretty solid for cable. More than 40 percent had 0.0 ratings, meaning no more than 64,000 adults under 50 watched. And: The most-watched primetime shows of the week were pretty much what you’d expect: “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Walking Dead,” “This Is Us” and the like. Here are the top 5 shows across Nielsen’s three measurement periods — same-day, Live +3 and Live +7. First, adults 18-49: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/more-tv-news/one-week-in-tv-3000-shows-133-networks-4-months-worth-of-programming/ Yeah, I just don't see AMC cancelling this show anytime soon...

  5. The Sunday Cable Ratings are in for "Still Gotta Mean Something": After an improvement the previous week, “The Walking Dead” hit a season low in the ratings Sunday. It was still the top show on cable by a lot, but “The Walking Dead’s” 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 was down from 3.0 a week earlier. It also slipped in viewers from 6.77 million to 6.3 million. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/sunday-cable-ratings-april-1-2018/ And here are the Live + Same Day ratings for Season 8 so far: 10-22-17 “Mercy” 11.439 million 10-29-17 “The Damned” 8.923 million 11-05-17 “Monsters” 8.519 million 11-12-17 “Some Guy” 8.688 million 11-19-17 “The Big Scary U” 7.845 million 11-26-17 “The King, The Widow, & Rick” 8.282 million 12-03-17 “Time For After” 7.468 million 12-10-17 “How It’s Gotta Be” 7.885 million 02-25-18 “Honor” 8.282 million 03-04-18 “The Lost or the Plunderers” 6.820 million 03-11-18 “Dead or Alive Or” 6.604 million 03-18-18 “The Key” 6.663 million 03-25-18 “Do Not Send Us Astray” 6.774 million 04-01-18 “Still Gotta Mean Something” 6.295 million Not looking good...

  8. The Cable Live +3 ratings are in for "The Key": Although it’s down to some of its lowest ratings since early in its run, “The Walking Dead” is still far and away the top show on cable. It’s true in the same-day rankings and true after adding in delayed viewing. The March 18 episode of “TWD” grew by 1.4 points in adults 18-49 (2.8 to 4.2) and by 3.08 million total viewers (to 9.76 million), easily the biggest bumps of any show in the top 25. In fact, its gains were more than double those of the next-largest boosts in both adults 18-49 (“Teen Mom” +0.6) and viewers (“The Alienist,” +1.29 million). http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/dvr-ratings/cable-live-3-ratings-for-march-12-18-2018/ And here are the Live + Same Day and Live +3 ratings for Season 8, so far: 10-22-17 “Mercy” 11.439 million; 15.047 million 10-29-17 “The Damned” 8.923 million; 12.247 million 11-05-17 “Monsters” 8.519 million; 12.086 million 11-12-17 “Some Guy” 8.688 million; 12.361 million 11-19-17 “The Big Scary U” 7.845 million; not reported 11-26-17 “The King, The Widow, & Rick” 8.282 million; 11.878 million 12-03-17 “Time For After” 7.468 million; 10.737 million 12-10-17 “How It’s Gotta Be” 7.885 million; 11.510 million 02-25-18 “Honor” 8.282 million; not reported 03-04-18 “The Lost or the Plunderers” 6.820 million; 9.894 million 03-11-18 “Dead or Alive Or” 6.604 million; not reported 03-18-18 “The Key” 6.663 million; 9.761 million

  14. I've never read the comics, but I gather that more than a few cringe-worthy phrases & bits of dialogue have been lifted straight off the page. *Jerry Seinfeld voice* Kirkman!

Here are the Live + Same Day, Live +3, and Live +7 ratings for Season 7 of Game of Thrones: 07-16-17 “Dragonstone” 10.105 million; 12.201 million; 12.743 million 07-23-17 “Stormborn” GOT 9.270 million; not reported; 12.367 miliion 07-30-17 “The Queen’s Justice” 9.245 million; 11.973 million; not reported 08-06-17 “The Spoils of War” 10.167 million; not reported; 13.940 million 08-13-17 “Eastwatch” 10.718 million; 13.643 million; 14.411 million 08-20-17 “Beyond the Wall” 10.236 million; not reported; 13.985 million 08-27-17 “The Dragon and the Wolf” 12.072 million; not reported; 15.442 million *There is a discrepancy between the initial Live + Same Day ratings and subsequent references to those numbers in the Live +3 and/or Live +7 reports. This does NOT occur with ratings for The Walking Dead, and may be attributable to some quirk in HBO’s data. Since the TV season has traditionally started in the fall and ends in the spring/summer, the proper comparison would be with ratings for The Walking Dead Season 7 episodes from last spring: 02-12-17 “Rock in the Road” 11.996 million; 15.932 million; 16.837 million 02-19-17 “New Best Friends” 11.075 million; 15.243 million; 16.171 million 02-26-17 “Hostiles and Calamities” 10.423 million; 14.740 million; 15.756 million 03-05-17 “Say Yes” 10.163 million; 13.669 million; not reported 03-12-17 “Bury Me Here” 10.676 million; 13.682 million; 14.430 million 03-19-17 “The Other Side” 10.318 million; 13.880 million; 14.776 million 03-26-17 “Something They Need” 10.543 million; 14.014 million; 14.771 million 04-02-17 “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life” 11.314 million; 15.637 million; 16.427 million Arguably, then, The Walking Dead will remain the #1 cable show of the 2016-2017 season. My understanding is that Game of Thrones will not air in the summer of 2018, which would leave the path clear for Gimple et al to squeak out another #1 for 2017-2018. But yeah...they were saved from losing the crown by a technicality, and going forward, the bloody writing is on the wall.

No other show in the top 25 added more than 0.6 points to its 18-49 rating, and the next-biggest bump among total viewers (that of “Major Crimes”) was 1.69 million people. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/dvr-ratings/cable-live-3-ratings-for-dec-4-10-2017/ Here are the Live + Same Day and Live +3 ratings for the first half of Season 8: 10-22-17 “Mercy” 11.439 million; 15.047 million 10-29-17 “The Damned” 8.923 million; 12.247 million 11-05-17 “Monsters” 8.519 million; 12.086 million 11-12-17 “Some Guy” 8.688 million; 12.361 million 11-19-17 “The Big Scary U” 7.845 million; not reported 11-26-17 “The King, The Widow, & Rick” 8.282 million; 11.878 million 12-03-17 “Time For After” 7.468 million; 10.737 million 12-10-17 “How It’s Gotta Be” 7.885 million; 11.510 million And I thought I'd post the equivalent ratings for the first half of Season 7, for comparison's sake: 10-23-16 “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” 17.029 million; 20.793 million 10-30-16 “The Well” 12.455 million; 16.849 million 11-06-16 “The Cell” 11.721 million; 16.225 million 11-13-16 “Service” 11.402 million; 15.718 million 11-20-16 “Go Getters” 10.996 million; 15.267 million 11-27-16 “Swear” 10.403 million; 14.275 million 12-04-16 “Sing Me a Song” 10.481 million; 14.940 million 12-11-16 “Hearts Still Beating” 10.583 million; 15.198 million Seriously, that has to sting!
  22. The Cable Live +7 ratings are in for Episode 807, "Time For After": “The Walking Dead” was at a six-year low in the same-day ratings for its Dec. 3 episode. But it was still a top show on cable, and after a week of delayed viewing its numbers are ahead of everything else. The episode grew from a 3.3 rating to a 5.2 in adults 18-49 with seven days of DVR playback. It also added 4.15 million viewers. Both numbers are a little behind “TWD’s” average gains this season, but they were still far and away the biggest ones for the week.
