S08.E06: Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby
aphroditewitch replied to humbleopinion's topic in Married At First Sight
It is possible that the description is a typo because I don't recall either Jasmine/Will or Kate/Luke confirming anything like that. But it is also possible that one of the twp couples has and tried to keep it private but eventually the producers or experts got the info out of them. -

I think Realitycraycray might have stuck with the show had it not been for Kate and Luke. I got the sense that the hosts were pretty sickened by watching Luke be abusive each week. And frankly, I feel that Kate and Luke should have been left out of the final edit of the show. With three other couples, there is no reason to keep around a fourth unless something happens to one of the other three that isn't obvious yet (speculation not a spoiler because I have no idea). Frankly is is shameful that Lifetime is normalizing verbal and emotional abuse with virtually no critical observations about the abuse from the show itself. Aside from Pastor Cal's quick and ultimately weak rebuke of Luke. And I'm sure people will say that Kate can just leave but that is a dangerous message for abuse victims because it is victim blaming that puts the responsibility on the victim rather than the abuser. -

It is disappointing but the show made bad choices that make it less interesting. I barely watched the Dallas season because it was boring. They had potential for a juicy storyline with Mia's criminal activity but they squandered it. And they are doing the same thing this season. The drama casting and bad editing take away from what made the show interesting in earlier seasons. Also what happened to Dr. Jessica? I feel like she is barely there this season. Did she get benched due to Jon? -

But Kate is the one who would have to deal with the online harassment and death threats that inevitably happen as a result of getting a bad edit. -

I have doubts that Kate is hoping Luke will like her. She knows it isn't going to happen. And I don't think she wants it to happen. IMO, she is there because she was given a choice by production. She could either stay and pretend to work on things or she could leave and get the bitch edit were the audience is never clued into the extent of Luke's verbal and emotional abuse. -

If Kate had gotten flirty with his friends, we never would have learned about the terrible things Luke said to her. Their storyline would instead have been about how Kate is a terrible person who flirts and is possibly cheating with any man she sees including her husband's friends and she would have been dragged for it. -

The problem isn't Kate. The problem is that Luke is an abusive asshole. You can find someone unattractive and still treat them decently. It is not complicated. It doesn't matter whether Kate flirts with him or ghosts him, he decided how he feels about her and he feels entitled to be terrible towards anyone he decides is unworthy of his time. We saw it with the way he decided to proclaim Keith as an alcoholic despite there being no evidence of that from what we have seen and most of the places where we have seen the two men interact are places where a person would probably have a drink like a dinner or bachelor party. -

If it is true is sounds like something from another era. I don't feel it matters much if he is closeted. None of that justifies how he treats people. He is an equal opportunist going after Kate and then Keith. -

They didn't marry in a Catholic church so a Catholic annulment should not be needed. And not consummating the marriage would not work for a legal annulment in Pennsylvania either. -

I found the discussion between Kristine, Keith, and Dr. Pepper to be really strange and bizarre in the editing. I also don't recall a conversation like this for A.J and Stephanie. I would be surprised if a woman like Kristine who is career-minded is not on some form of hormonal contraception. -

Will is making a lot of passive-aggressive comments. I think he made up his mind long before the financial conversation that he was not into Jasmine. But I don't think Jasmine is into Will either. I think she is willing to go along with the experiment more than he is but she has no investment beyond decision day. Kate is going through the motions and saying what she is told to say. I don't think she is hoping for a future with Luke. -

Those pictures are strange. Luke's face looks too young in them to be from the years listed. -

At best they have met Kate once and if they are his friends, then their behavior makes sense because I think the only people Luke could be friends with are people who are as awful as he is. -

Based on Kate's face during the meeting with the other women, I think she just wants to be done with the show. Luke projects his own issues onto everyone around him. He made the alcoholic comment to Keith but we have seen Luke drinking alcohol numerous times on the show. Luke is just an asshole who picks apart everyone around him because he thinks it makes him look better. -

Will is a bad fit for the show. It happens every season. People who are open to the process at least have a ok time even if the relationship doesn't work out. People who are closed off and picky make themselves and their temporary spouse miserable. -

I find Will super awkward. He is not much better than Luke in how he acts. He probably won't ever say that he feels repulsed and dead inside but he has really negative energy about everything. -

She might be on contraception, they just cut out her saying it. Or not. People make dumb choices. -
MAFS Social Media, Spoilers & Speculation

Jasmine's styling is really good in the reunion photo. Kate's dress would have been ok if she had styled it better. It has a retro vibe to it and needed different styling. I don't like jumpsuits and don't care for the one Stephanie is wearing here. Kristine's dress is just not a good style for her, it is a shame since red is a nice color on her. -
I feel like the side chick got a crappy deal if she stayed with Nate following that season. Because even before he and Shelia split she revealed to the experts that he had never given her la petite mort.

Depends on who the peers are. Most childless women who stay home are part of communities where it is the norm for women to not work outside the home. Although usually women in those communities start having children early on in their marriage. If someone is infertile in those communities, they might receive pity but they are also left out because so many of the social functions for women in those types of communities involve being a mom. I don't recall Jasmine saying flat out that she didn't want to work before having kids. Just that she didn't want to be contributing equally to finances despite it being unclear who makes more money. Although if Will is in finance, then he probably makes more. The whole finance conversation was so clumsily done and it should have been handled better. Even for a fake conversation it was really bad.

Reality TV has actually been around for over 40 years if you count things like An American Family. I think it is important to remember that many of the people for these shows are recruited and don't apply outright to be on the show. I think this is significant because I think it gives the impression that the show wants the person specifically and that person will get better treatment as a result. Not that that will ever really happen but the impression is there. There is also the fact that most people who go on a reality show have a rather uneventful experience overall and don't need to worry much about a bad edit. And I would even argue that most MAFS alum went through relatively unscathed in terms of their own appearance on the show. Season 1 really didn't have a true villain, IMO. Davina in season 2 was given a needlessly harsh edit but I think that season was so notoriously bad in terms of all men having issues that should have disqualified them, that Davina and the other women were vindicated in the end. It is incredibly important to highlight that people have a tendency to think that they are the exception. So while it is easy to say, well you should have done your research, that doesn't mean much to people who genuinely think they can be an exception. And of course there is the real thing the MAFS has going for it. While MAFS is a shitshow, it is a shitshow that can tout about a handful marriages over the first 7 seasons that have lasted for several years and four of the couples have either had a baby or are about to have a baby with the person they married on the show. That is a powerful thing that MAFS has going for it in terms getting people to agree to sign on for the process. Yes, people who want to find a relationship can sign up for various other methods. And most of them probably won't go through this nonsense. Yes, they will weed through bots, scammers, criminals, cheaters, jerks, etc. But most won't have it put out in the media unless they are the unlucky person who finds a Dirty John type match.

I've never claimed that anyone is forced to do the show. I'm arguing that people don't truly know how bad it can be until it happens to them. These shows tend to use less than 1% of what they film and that percentage is still heavily edited. The comic book festival comparison doesn't work here. The people filming aren't going to be using the footage to manipulate opinions of specific individuals that they catch on film.

Kate is an easy target because of what she is representing whether willingly or not on her part, what people fear. People fear both rejection and being made to look weak or foolish. As a result, Kate is the perfect target for animosity because no one wants to admit that they could be in that situation, regardless of whether it is on tv or just in their real life.

Is it confirmed that he is in a RN program or a BSN program? Because it might be a LPN program which is not nearly as intensive. I know Ashley from season 3 was in a BSN program but I don't think she had a true outside job at the time and was doing work within her school.
