  1. Huh. did you watch the commentary with the....director? writer? at the end of the episode? He said it wasnt normal domestic abuse and talked about when you have two strong independent characters. That was sort of confusing because I don't see Celeste as that strong although she hit him back and doesn't seem a hopeless wreck. However coping mechanisms can be complex or so I understand. I do think the show is screwing with us a bit.
  2. Thank you, it says Book Spoilers so I'm assuming its discussing the book, in full as...opposed to book discussion or something for the other book forum? IDK its a little confusing but with spoilers in the title I dont think you should have to hide anything. I had read a review or something on the internet and knew about Perry but I can't place Bonnie. Ohhhhhhh wait, the step mom! So is it real abuse between Celeste and Perry? The second episode made it look like consensual foreplay.

    S34: Hali Ford

Good article. Now I finally know who Sierra is though honestly I still don't really remember her.

    S34: Hali Ford

She is pretty and sweet and I probably would like her if I knew her pesonally but I'm not sure why she is back.
  5. I remember all the people being talked about here but this Sierra. Eventually i will go look her up but for the life of me I can't remember who she is. I was thinking, ike the person above has informed me is not so, that maybe she was Kim.

    S34: Jeff Varner

I too hope he makes it to the jury as I want to see him in Ponderosa. I love his snark which can be catty but also doesn't seem mean. I hope he doesn't get on the wrong side of the some of the testosterone ala Culpepper. I don't know why but I feel like some personality conflict like that might be a factor. That and his health. if he can't do challenges he might be jettisoned.
  7. My impression is that Debbie's hard life and trying to provide for herself and her kids is...of desparate proportions. She said, and I would agree, that life long poverty can really grind you down. I think she'll do anything, include play a crazy character, to be memorable, to increase post production invites etc. Now that I think of it I'm a little surprised not to have seen her on some other reality show. But making a living at that is harder than it looks if you arent young, nubile, breasted. Ask Johnny Fairplay.
  8. I think Dunham has written about the "accusation"? that all her writing is her life. Not much different than the Khardashians if slightly more disguised and written. Tiny Houses and Girls...seems valid. I thought this was a bigger deeper discussion of that in many ways. The writer talked about writers having to have experiences to write about; so if Hanna writes about this will she be guilty? Then the groupie discussion, there was a lot of thought provoking stuff there, all gray, can go either way from different people's perspectives. I agreed that the ATE comments were a huge surprise. I got the impression that the writer in the episode show both half believed what he was saying and half understood that it was all just rationalizing bad behavior and he was purposefully confusing her for fun. I felt like it was a bit of a con from the get go then i thought maybe just a con at the end. But it most certainly was not his desire to connect except in a lascivious way. I wasn't that surprised that she laid down and grabbed his dick. She is a pleaser, women want to please, it will jump out of the shadows and sabatoge us when we least expect it. She had just been oiled up by all his praise. It gives her something to write about..........(evil I know) I did find the staying to watch the daughter play flute was bizarre. Girls is bizarre enough to watch sometimes but the ATE comments really made me feel like I'm watching people from a different planet called generational artistic New Yorkers. I thought it was a smart episode, smarter than me. I just edited after reading the New Yorker article. It was good. Doesn't explain why Dunham, Apatow and that other women seem to be on a different plane of interpretation.
  9. Hello? I would love to be book spoiled! I did find that Perry was the one pushed over a cliff by a character name I didn't recognize as one of the main characters. I do sort of suck at names though. Would love to know who choked Amabella among other things. Not that its anyones job here or anything. Its for people who have actually read the book which I have not.
  10. I liked Debbie. There were flashes of normality and intelligence in between the I'm going to just act as weird as I want to get attention or whatever. Sounds to me like she has had a pretty tough life. I hope she doesn't decide to play a new role just to get screen time. She could actually be a bit nuts, but so far I think its a pretty harmless nuts, a nuts that isn't to stupid.
  11. Whiplash! 1st episode leads us down the path of domestic violence for Celeste and Perry and the 2nd episode takes us....to two people who like domestic violence as foreplay? The commentary at the end the guy (director? writer?) said this isn't your normal domestic violence. Got it. Nicole Kidman can pick her roles and I think picking one where you are going to have to masturbate on screen...I couldn't do it. (I wonder if she has a boob double). The commentator guy talked about two very strong individuals. While I don't see Celeste as a pushover or anything she does seem sort of passive. Like a sounding board for Madeline's character. Its a more subtle character to play so far so I'm glad Nicole is playing her, I think she is doing a good job with a difficult role. Their kids - did anyone clock the video game they were playing in the car on the way to school? It seemed like their was some sort of pointed reference to violence there but I didn't go back to check it. Yea, ripping up the Hippo would seem to indicate some sort of emotional response unless they were just arguing over it and it got pulled off by accident. a possible red herring. Ed and Nathan. I didn't even understand their conversation much less get all those subtle messages. It was like they were talking in code. Lots of what? where did that come from? on my part Amabelle and the kiss - the shot of her while Ziggy walking up to her..her expression looked quite welcoming not terrified. Who narc'ed on the kiss? Amabelle? Or does she go home and Renata pump her about her day? I think Renata will be are next or at least one of our next whiplash events. 2 episodes of Renata as a bitch, then somewhere an episode that shows her in a better light. I've always said if I had kids I'd move to North Dakota. Parenting is just insane now. I don't think the question is whether Bonnie did the wrong thing, I think that is pretty obvious. Yes. The question is who in their right mind would do that? I might if they didn't really have any actively parenting them and were desperate or something. I think everyone is pretty aware that you don't parent other people's kids. She's not her parent. Maybe if she and Madeline had a great relationship. Speaking of which was Bonnie laughing as they left the school after the parent scene with Renata? Madeline and Celeste's convo re sex. I think Madeline may just not be into sex as much as some. That's like a big sin these days but the reality is human traits usually fall out on a spectrum. Some people are going to need sex so much its sort of destructive to their lives, most people will be strung out along the general middle some where, some people will need it a little less. There is some weird thing on this forum where I hit a normal combination of keys (return and something) and my post disappears. Second time on this post alone. argh! Jane, the actor (Shailene W?) isn't doing much for me. Nor is the character. She needs to manage Madeline. Ziggy is 6? And she is still having a lot flashbacks. Maybe thats why she moved. Poor Ziggy. Doth his mother protest too much? He is not a monster but it seems like another arrow pointing to his being the product of rape which could be hard for the mother . Twice there were "somebody watching" shots, one where a car door slammed and one where two characters were sitting on the stairs. Is that going to be something? Not enough Greek Chorus. Apropo of nothing, a much beloved high school teacher died recently (like 88 or something) so my facebook high school page has been full of posts and pictures. There is one where this tall white teacher has his hands wrapped around a black girls neck. Both with big smiles, they were joking around for the camera The chokee is the one who posted the picture with a post of love.
  12. I haven't buried into spoilers deep but I scanned some stuff at Reddit and while very excited about the season I am also super disappointed that none of my personal favorites seem to be around long. I can't even remember who Sarah and Troyzan are and Brad only because he was semi famous and sort of a pain. Its not that my favorites aren't winning so much though as I won't be watching them. At least Ciera (the Ciera/Sierra thing is driving me a bit nuts because I don't remember a Sierra either) isn't supposed to be around long. Maybe Jeff will finally shut up about her. I swear if I have to watch another secret scene of her telling us how she has so much game I'll gag. I'm not into bragging. I'm really not into bragging when there isn't anything to back it up.
  13. I thought this was insightful and smart and thought about it for a little bit. I think where relatability comes up with the wealthy is that they have options. If your kid in the FL projects is getting their ass kicked or worse by drug gangs, chances are the parent has no where to go and no leverage with the school, the cops or anybody else. Most of us probably feel hampered by lack of money no matter how much we have (within reason). We feel a lot of our problems and desires could be fulfilled with more money. Money gives you options to change those problems we are supposed to be relating to. So why do they have them? BLL level of money; someone is bullying your kid at public school? You can send them to private, you can wave your checkbook around and get the cops on it, the school on it. People don't like you (Renata), you can sell and move to some other lovely coastal community or even quit work and suck up to the stay at home mom set.
  14. I have not read the book or watched either the Australian or US version of The Slap. But The Slap immediately sprang to mind, just with a murder. Anyone else? There was a moment where Reese was walking into the school where she was doing the legally blond walk, that with some legal talk.............:) Someone asked if Skaarsguards character was controlling...geez you thing? Plus he is always sneaking up behind her and scaring her. Letting her know she is never alone. Since no one, at leaast no adult saw what happened how do they know how it was another kid or even an adult? Why are they taking her word for it? Could be a rash or an allergy or playground equipment. Really stupid and I think if they don't back and up and look at all possibilities and continue down the must be a kid line I might get to po'd to finish watching. Wonder who Ziggy's father is.......right now I'm guessing a rape or someone in jail. That would certainly add flames to the fire. I think the Greek Chorus was my favorite part. Some redeeming snark in a very unpleasant tense show. Plus I always love the outsider view.
