  1. Still bugs me when the contestants jump all over the board.......................................................... it turns into pinball J! It would be like someone posting here like this except with the mords all wixed up!
  2. Very surprised none of them knew the Celestine prophecy, being champs and all... there again, I'm always surprised when I know an answer and none of the contestants do - it doesn't happen very often! (happens most often when there are questions on Canada. LOL) LOVE the blue ribbons in tribute to Cindy. Very admirable, Jeopardy!
  3. I've only been watching since 2010 - but I think that trio of Lindsay's with Jordan and Corbin was the best I remember seeing. Wow. (I'm not invested in who wins the MBT, but I do wish it for Lindsay - I've seen her in the tour shows she's been in and she's 100% energy ALL the time... I also really like her choreography.) Her QS with Jordan was incredible too... however, I'm not a fan of the psychadelic (sp?) circles on the floor. Ugh... I must be getting old! Lindsey, Mark, and Kristi were also fantastic! Great show... didn't want to see anyone go...
  4. Agreed, SueB. Well said. There's a saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears." That is how I feel about motherhood in some ways... it wasn't always me teaching them - my kids taught me so many things about boundaries, expectations, etc. I believe the biggest lesson was on loving unconditionally. That's truly how I feel about them (and that doesn't mean they don't piss me off at times). I don't remember the line from the show, but I do remember having the thought that, yeah, babies are very smart. They know exactly what they need and if a parent follows that gut instinct intelligence, they'll know what to do... when to feed, burp, rock... change... bathe... play... chat away... and sometimes just hold and make eye contact. My kids taught me when it was time to wean, and when it was time to be potty trained. It's quite organic. If anyone doesn't know about places in your heart that you didn't know existed until they seem to burst with an undeniable, pure love... wait until you have grandkids. (And to think I was mistaken for so many years, thinking I could never love anyone the way I loved my children. I love discovering I've been wrong!)
  5. Like you, Browncoat, I didn't have Legos as a kid... but my kids did (and much as I loved helping them create their masterpieces, I equally hated stepping on one of those tiny pieces with my bare feet)... and now my grandkids do. You said it - the kits nowadays are incredible. Let me warn anyone not aware: have tweezers and a magnifying glass, and make sure you read every word of the instructions (unless your grandchild has already flipped ahead and is working on step 11 while you're still reading step 5).
  6. I would take Austen anyday over Kara. Oh. My. Word. Obviously, she reminds me of someone very annoying... because everything from her voice inflections to her reaction when she hit every single DD (ClareWalks mentioned this) made me cringe. During her interview, when she said "Yesssss..." and then fondled Alex's hand when he was holding the Lego, made me gag. Yuck. Oh, how I wanted Nicole to win (or Monica), and wished my knowledge of La Paz (thanks to Jetpunk) could have transmitted somehow to one of their brains. Truly - I do my best to not be so judgmental... so I'm really curious why she bugged me SO much. So. Much. I may skip the next show she's on and hope she's a one-time winner.
  7. I am probably a "softie" when it comes to fulfilling the wishes of my kids, especially when they were little (oh who am I kidding... it carries on to this day)... so I was on the fence about Jack supporting Kate's wanting a different costume. I understood where he was coming from and actually thought how incredible it was that they managed to find a blonde wig, etc. Being so last-minute, I expected Rebeccah to give him the gears about that... and yet, she didn't - instead, she took the "she needs to learn..." approach. Both are legitimate parenting perspectives. JMO. I always made my kids' costumes, so I definitely know what goes into the preparations - buying material, cutting, sewing, etc. Nowadays, I see my grandkids in mostly purchased outfits - it's a different world. Two memories that come to mind. My youngest wanted a new winter coat with a "puff" (for those of you who don't know what this is, it's a one-piece tubelike creation for both hands to fit into, with a string around the neck to hold it ... similar to the mittens on string that's threaded through the arms of a coat). She walked into the kitchen where I had the material laid out, pattern in place, and said (in an obviously disappointed tone of voice), "Oh. I was hoping for a red coat." (I'd picked grey. It was probably on sale.) She didn't whine - she simply stated her feelings. So what did I do? I packed up the grey, went to the store and bought red... all in secret (I used to sew at night after the kids were in bed). When she got up in the morning and saw her new red coat with matching puff and hood, lined in white fluffy fake fur, she was ecstatic. She still talks about this as one of her "best" memories of her childhood - the fact that I heard her and made her dream come true. (Ironically, that coat came in handy for a "Red Riding Hood" costume for Halloween.) When my oldest was 2, she kept answering the question, "what do you want for Christmas?" with this response, "All I want for Christmas is a tree with lights." For weeks, this is all she'd say... even when asked by her puppet (she told her puppet everything - even what Daddy was getting Mommy which was a sworn secret! Bwahahaha.) On Christmas Eve, she casually mentioned that she hoped Santa Claus brought her a jack-in-the-box. There was some quick scrambling to get one at the last minute (the traffic! the crowded stores! who had a jack-in-the-box?!!!)... and yet she remembers that present under the tree and how happy she was to "get what she wanted most!" Perhaps I felt that they had enough years left to learn about disappointment... perhaps my choices weren't what the parenting experts deem appropriate. What I do know is that my kids' memories of happy times make me smile - inside and out.
  8. I saw Jenna on the tour show, and in SWAY, and she's exactly the same in person as she is on the show - very out there. Have to say, though, she and Val danced the best jive I've ever seen... incredibly fast and precise.
  9. Slightly off topic... I'm a huge fan of Natalie ever since I saw her in Toronto back in the 90's... and I'm also a fan of Leahy (Nat is married to Donnell, correct?) - they got a lot of attention when they opened for Shania Twain many moons ago - and I simply adore the entire family! Uber-talented! I find it amazing how they sing + dance + play an instrument all at the same time. Unbelievable. Wish they'd have them on DWTS ;)
  10. Re Rebecca in her "old" mode (with the bad wig)... I'd love to see her get a makeover... get a really good cut and go 'natural' (a silvery gray) - a short, semi-funky look. JMO. I think Mandy could pull that off and it would also make her less drab. At the same time, they could reduce Miguel's spray tanning sessions!
  11. Lots of posts covering many of my observations... Loved Mark and Lindsey's paso - it was different and clever! I'd love to see Lindsey and Natalie McMaster do a musical duo someday. Just putting it out there. Thought the costuming and makeup were incredible last night... the eyes especially! Mark always seems to win the "best costuming" in my book. His creativity is OTT great. Loved the Phantom dresses. (Didn't think that team was 6 points better than the Monster Mashers.) Sasha was hilarious, as always, and Erin looked super tall... or maybe Tom looked shorter? Tom, as usual, was spot on fabulous with his ad libs. Witney is impressing me this season for some reason - there's a freshness about her choreography. I'm almost always impressed with Lindsay's, and Mark's. I'm hoping to see these 3 in the finals, and (don't throw stuff at me) Emma and Drew also. Drew's come a long way since the beginning. My only real complaint is that I dislike the way they call couples in jeopardy right before they go out to dance. Why??? It does nothing to improve the show, and it's not as if there isn't enough drama already. As for the elimination, I wasn't surprised - yet, I was shocked when they were both gone. Zap! I always wish they could just leave it at 8 teams until just before the final week and then eliminate 50% - JMO. TPTB don't listen to me. I'll miss Artem.
  12. Thank you! My brain was circling 'round and 'round, searching for her name.
  13. Mark and Lindsey were my faves (OMG... her eyes!!!) and Jordan and Lindsay a close second. Cheryl and T's jive was decent... the rest are a blur. It was time for Nick to go. Shania was "off" tonight - being Canadian, I give her a pass... but I think DWTS having a guest judge (who isn't a dance expert) is a huge mistake - it was awkward (I felt sorry for her when she was searching for words), and her scoring was strange at times. JMO. I'm positive she was lip-syncing (sp?) her song. Looking forward to Hallowe'en! Especially Mark - he always has the best costumes!
  14. I think Manny's angel took a hike. Bonehead risk on his part, IMO. I expected that sort of wager from Austin - but then he probably would have got the right answer (question).
  15. It always amazes me how contestants will know obscure facts - and then not know something I learned as a young child, like Roman numerals. Am I the only one who shouts the answer at the tv, hoping the contestant will "get it" via my yelling it? "D! D! D!" What a finish! I hope Manny bought a lottery ticket the day this show was taped... I swear he had an angel hovering nearby. I wonder if he'd tucked those gold wings (the ones his Dad gave him) in one of his military uniform pockets.
  16. Thanks, friendperidot... I shouldn't have used the term flag - I actually click on the heart symbol. Just did it for your post and a window pops up telling me I'm not allowed to like the post. It's so weird, because the 'like' actually registers (the heart fills in, and the corresponding # changes). This is what the pop-up window says: "You are not allowed to like content from this user." There's an "ok" inside a box to click. My issue is that when I click the ok, sometimes my system freezes. I think there's a glitch somewhere! Or maybe my computer is wacko.
  17. Technical question... I'm new here, and don't know all the rules. When I click the heart flag (to "like" a post), sometimes a window pops up saying I'm not allowed by this user to like their post... WTFrig? There's an "ok" button to click to close the window. The window doesn't always close - and a couple of times it has frozen my system (which makes me hesitate to 'like' posts). Weirdest part? My "like" registers and the heart changes to include my "like". Colour me confused. Do some posters have their account set so that they don't get notifications of a "like"? Might this be why I'm getting the pop-up window? Just curious.
  18. Maks and Vanessa... just had a thought about these two. There is obviously something going on... it's anyone's guess what that 'something' is. Could be some sort of personality clash, with Vanessa being a strong-willed woman. Could be a professional challenge with the two couples in competition with each other. It's obviously challenging for all of them, having wee ones at home. (That clip of Peta and Nick with the animals was cute - seeing Peta and Maks' baby - priceless!) However, there is a perceptible change in Maks these past couple of weeks. He's hardly saying boo. The way he stands there, almost expressionless... this isn't the Maks I know from previous seasons. Methinks he's been told to keep quiet and not reveal what that 'something' is. JMO. I don't see Vanessa getting to the finals. There's too many other stars with as much - if not more - talent and potential. Can't quite put my finger on exactly what the issue is... it just seems there's some shade on her and I don't know if it is Maks, or her own limits, or the fact that Nick is also in the competition. She's not shining or blooming the way I thought she would be by this point. At the beginning of the season, she came out gangbusters... and now it's as if she's lost her zing.
  19. Agreed! Nice chest... hips... back... Artem is a bit of eye candy - JMO (and I know several people who agree with me LOL). He's subtle in his movements and yet that subtlety is what makes him stand out. He also doesn't mug for the camera - or create a lot of drama - the way some pros do. Sounds like I'm an Artem fan! I'm glad Artem has a partner who has dancing potential this season. Just going from memory, he often (like Keo) gets the older or less talented *stars*. I'd hoped he'd get farther last season with Nanci K - perhaps I'm biased with skaters as I also wanted Evan Lysacek to win his season.
  20. Great game! Can someone explain to me why it irritates me when a contestant starts a category somewhere in the middle? Am I OCD or what?
  21. Loved this show and I hope DWTS reads these comments. Tonight was SO much better than the MMY (last week). JMO. My picks for the finals: Lindsey, Jordan, Frankie and Drew. Simply because I enjoy their energy and lack of drama for the most part. Their dances are the ones I watch over again. Nikki is the wild card (and who doesn't enjoy Artem!) and might force Frankie or Drew out of the finals. Again, JMO. I used to be a huge Maks fan... I seem to have lost my enthusiasm for him. He's just not the old Maks anymore!
  22. If this is true (that every single new winner was a one-and-done)... is it possible that there's some hanky panky going on? Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist at all... (I'm really not)... however, it begs the question, how does someone do as well as Scarlett did during taping "x" and then appear to lose her zip and do so poorly during taping "x+1"? Is it possible the show leaks answers (questions) or categories or hints in such a way that it can't be discovered? Or do the writers know the "one-and-done"'s knowledge base and tailor the answers to suit them (just for taping "x")? Just thinking out loud here. I find it statistically rare that whoever beats the running champ doesn't last at least 2 shows. Bizarre.
  23. First time posting here, so don't hit me too hard. I'm a J! fan (obviously) and from Canada... and my first thought when I saw Austin was that he reminded me of the guy who plays Riggs in Lethal Weapon (Clayne Crawford)... similar face shape, messy hair and goofiness. The second thing I noticed was that he missed the "What is Canada?" portion of his answer (early on) after he got the Panama portion... seemed so easy to me! Had to ponder why he intrigues me - because he does, and only partially due to his extensive trivia knowledge. There are things I like about him: the way he runs a category, starting at the top (smile); his big wagers; his speed; some of his quirkiness. There are things that irritate me: his hair (better now); the rest of his quirkiness. All in all, he's a J! champion and he'll go down as one of the best ever in terms of his winnings and OTT personality. Big thank you to the person who posted the dog video... love it!
