At least Kaine responded that Republicans will have to do the same. I like that he said that. Hopefully Hillary will be able to work with (some) Republicans but not be overly accommodating to them like Obama was his first two years. I feel like she's too savvy to fall for that. We'll see! -

What did Rachel do that you all are thinking needed to be set right? I only get the podcast and videos they post on TRMS web site, so maybe I missed something. -

So from comments, it looks like TRMS was on tonight? I watch online or listen to the podcast, and they have been sloooow putting those up lately. Usually I wait patiently until they're posted, but tonight I can't wait to hear what Rachel has to say about pussygate. -
I was rooting so hard for Rik because, if he won, I was planning to immediately go and buy that swim suit and cover-up. Unfortunately, it turns out it's way too expensive. But I want it so much! That's a first for me watching Project Runway.

I was glad Rachel, Joy Reid, et al. didn't try to spin the vice presidential debate in favor of Tim Kaine. The story about Sarah Palin calling Joe Biden Obiden was hilarious. I don't think I'd heard that one before. Rachel's bit today about how all the big guns in the Democratic party are out in force for Hillary right now gave me a huge warm fuzzy. Special kudos to Bernie Sanders, who is really coming through. -

Wow, you really nailed it with this prediction. I came on here to say just that: Alec Baldwin's impression brought out how grotesque and sinister Trump is. Darrell Hammond's Trump is way too likable. I know this is blasphemy to a lot of people, but I've never been blown away by any of the Hillary Clinton impressions on SNL. Why can't anyone get her distinct midwestern accent down? Don't get me wrong-- McKinnon's Hillary is funny. She emphasizes a robotic quality that Clinton critics think she has. But I guess I most enjoy impressions that are truly uncanny like Tina Fey's Sarah Palin. The best Hillary impression I've seen was actually by an amateur comedian who had her own YouTube channel back in 2008, but I can't find it anymore. -

Richard Engel talking to Rachel tonight was my favorite commentary on the debate. He has so much credibility because of his extensive knowledge of world affairs, and typically he is a reporter and not a pundit, so his reaction to Trump's statements about foreign policy really brought home to me just how dangerous they are. -

And then after Hillary's statement: "What, no kiss?" That was funny. It's also a perfect encapsulation of the differences between the candidates when it comes to foreign policy. Trump likes to talk big, but of the two of them Clinton is the only one with the balls to stand up to world leaders. I was so happy to see Elizabeth Warren back on the show! She's so awesome. I'm glad Rachel let her talk about the banking stuff most of the time and waited until the end to ask about politics. But I still wish Clinton had picked her for vp. Arguably, the lack of enthusiasm on the Democratic side is one of the main reasons Clinton is on the verge of losing. Tim Kaine seems to be helping her keep a lock on Virginia, so there's a big strategic advantage there, but otherwise, he doesn't seem to bring much to the table. Warren potentially could have really energized the ticket. I know I had multiple nerdgasms watching her tell off that Wells Fargo guy yesterday. -

Tonight's episode was an overdose of crazy. First of all, Paul LePage thanking the person he just called a cocksucker at the end of that call is never not funny. I know all the violent stuff he said was terrible and disgraceful and it's not really a laughing matter. But still, lololol. I am obsessed with the interview with Trump's doctor. There's so much going on between the lines! I mean, the real story is probably pretty close to what the doctor said--Trump's people called him up and asked him to write the letter, and then he procrastinated all day and didn't start on it until they arrived to pick it up. Knowing that Trump expected a glowing health endorsement, he sat down and wrote that bizarre document in five minutes, thinking "astonishingly excellent . . . Trump will love that!" He definitely seems crazy enough to have written it himself, and he uses phrases somewhat similar to Trump's when he speaks, as when he describes Clinton's health as "not so good." The timeline aspect doesn't bother me as much as it does Rachel, because the doctor seemed pretty vague on it. He began his statement about Hillary releasing a doctor's letter with "I guess." I think he was literally just guessing. But, there were also a lot of suspicious things in that interview. For example, the doctor hesitated when the reporter asked if he wrote the letter himself, and the wife had to jump in and answer for him. Also, when he read the part aloud about Trump being the healthiest president in history, he acted like he was reading it for the first time--"I like that sentence actually." Was he high when he wrote it, or did he not write it at all? And what was with the wife's defensiveness? I guess she was upset that the letter has been ridiculed in the media and become an embarrassment to her husband. At one point in the interview she says, "It's not who he is.". Did she mean he didn't write it, or that it's just not representative of his brilliance as a physician? She was really on edge! Regardless of how the letter came to be, the whole situation is extremely sketchy. It seems pretty obvious that this doctor has not examined Trump in a good long while. As a 70-year-old billionaire, Trump can have any physician in the world, including ones who don't act like they just dropped a lot of acid. Why didn't someone in the Trump campaign look at the letter and say "hey, this is nutso" and just get someone else to write it? -

Rachel's discussion with Dan Rather tonight was strange. First, she started from the premise that Clinton is heavily favored to win, which is somewhat misleading. Yes, all the major forecasters predict that she'll win the electoral college based on their models, but most of those predictions were made before she started to plunge in the polls a few weeks ago. The most current polling data has her even with Trump or even slightly behind him in some polls. Nate Silver still has her ahead in two of his three models, but in the last few weeks she has plummeted from an 80% chance of winning to a 52% or 61% chance, depending on which version of the forecast you look at. His "now cast," which predicts what would happen if the election were held today, has Trump winning. So Rachel's take-away is worrying that Clinton might get complacent in the face of those numbers? I would think being in a dead heat with Trump in the current polls would have the opposite effect. Then she asks Dan Rather whether being a woman is an advantage or disadvantage in the election, and he talks about how Clinton's speech wasn't "soaring" but also wasn't "warm"? He answered the question alright, but not in the way he intended. Rachel at least called him on that, but the whole exchange made no sense to me. -

What happened to Maritza was horrible, but the scene where she told Flaca was so sweet. I love their friendship. I was kind of sad that Judy King backed out of movie night when she saw what was going on. I was hoping she and Black Cindy were forming a genuine friendship via their fake romance. It would have been a nice balance to the racial strife. I like to think I would stand up for someone being mistreated like Blanca, but if she had just branded me . . . probably not. It does seem like there are more realistic and effective ways for Piper to handle the situation. I can see guards getting away with all the behind-the-scenes bullshit, but something this public would get out. All the stuff with the sister was great. I loved the note passing and her holding the phone in her cooch. Why did Aleida leave her cousin's and go back to her boyfriend's babymamma? Her cousin did seem like nothing but trouble, so maybe Aleida was just being smart. I hope she doesn't end up back in prison like Taystee. I hope we continue to see her struggles in the real world as she tries to make a new life for herself. That's something we haven't seen on the show so far. -

I don't get Rachel's love for those silly PPP poll questions. The 538 people called her out on it the last time she mentioned one of those on the air. I was hoping it would get back to her and she would think twice before doing it again. To me it seems like including joke questions just encourages people not to take the poll seriously and undermines the credibility of the whole enterprise. -

So Rachel mentioned that Clinton and Warren were tag-teaming against Trump yesterday, but she didn't mention that Clinton also name-dropped Warren twice in her economy speech. I'm probably reading too much into it, but I'm so obsessed with knowing who the VP nominee will be I scrutinize every move like a fortune teller reading tea leaves. I'd never thought about it, but Rachel's piece on the scammy nature of the Trump campaign made me realize the Republican party may now be paying for the greed of its members. Arguably Trump could have never gotten the nomination if the field hadn't been so huge. The gravy train is getting too crowded to sustain itself. -
It's not just the marshmallows (and the brand she is eating does have gelatin). That's just an example. Her whole lifestyle makes me feel like she's the kind of person who puts on a big show about her convictions but then doesn't really follow through on them in her day to day life. But that impression may also be because of the ignorance of the writers. Maybe they're not trying to make her seem fake but are basing her character on their stereotype of someone who lives an earth-conscious lifestyle without actually knowing anyone like that? Either way, I find her annoying.

Just caught up on the last two episodes. Samantha Bee is definitely the only person in media who can get away with mentioning Hillary's tits (though it did make me kind of uncomfortable). Sam portrayed Gary Johnson as a goofy, likable guy and the only adult in the room at the libertarian convention. She's not taking him seriously, but if this election is close, he could be a spoiler who hands Trump the presidency. I could see a lot of so-called progressives voting for him if he starts to catch on and get traction because he's "cool." Like when I lived in Austin, this zany character named "Kinky" Friedman ran for governor, and all my hipster friends were shocked that I wasn't voting for him and was instead choosing the Democrat, aka someone who actually knew what he was doing. Even though their economic policies are polar opposites, I could see a lot of Sanders supporters voting for Johnson because he'd be fun to smoke a bowl with.
