  1. I'm just happy to see him without that stupid pork pie hat. He looks like poor man's Joshua Jackson in this photo: https://s3.amazonaws.com/tm-photos-production/96978.jpg
  2. It took me a few minutes to find this thread! I thought the performances got better as the night went on. Kenny Chesney’s opening performance was pretty “Meh” and I really didn’t like that dance party crap going on in the background behind him, with women pretending to play the bongos. Pretty lame. Then on to Miranda and Meghan Trainor. Miranda’s vocals were more in the background and Meghan was outsinging her the whole time (and I usually like Miranda). It seemed weird and uneven. Dislike. Make Arianna Grande and her stupid hair go away, ASAP. Take Jennifer Nettles with you, mostly because I can’t stand her and I can’t put my finger on the reason why. I was surprised about Luke Bryan winning Entertainer of the Year but good for him.
  3. I am sticking with this show for now but it is still feeling too much like a poor man’s Happy Endings at this point. It just highlights to me how well HE was written and acted versus Annie’s group on friends on Marry Me. I generally liked this episode but do have some nitpicks: The Gil character is still an unfunny Zach Galifianakis. I did like that he was a doomsday prepper but then he opened his mouth. I’m not sure if it is the writing or the acting but they could do without him. Annie = Penny as far as I’m concerned. I am really not seeing the difference other than Annie has two dads and her mother isn’t Megan Mullally.
  4. Was I the only one who guffawed when Blessing announced to TSwift that he would be singing a John Mayer song?
  5. Yay for Gwen calling out Allison for getting shouty. The judges, specifically Adam and Blake, tend to zero in on pitch issues but never mention the screeching or shouting, which there is plenty of every season. I did a big fat eye roll when Taylor said she was singing Landslide, which for me ranks up there with I Believe I Can Fly in the Top 5 Overdone Songs on Singing Competitions. I preferred Taylor over Allison but I am not sure of her staying power once the Lives start. We’ll see! Menlik never impressed me and tonight was no different. TSwift advised he keeps his eyes open when performing: he didn’t listen and he should have. Also, Blake comparing his arm swing to a grandfather clock arm? Hilarious. I can’t say I am sad to see Menlik go. Rebekkah definitely got shafted with the montages. She is this year’s Kristin Merlin, without the benefit of making it to the lives. I love Craig’s haircut. Gwen did him a monster favor and now he no longer looks like an extra from Dazed and Confused. I am glad Blake stole him back, he’s one of my current favorites. I like Anita too, so I was glad they both moved on.
  6. A few thoughts: Belle entering the SQ's lair wearing tall wedge heeled boots: Does that woman ever wear appropriate footwear? Belle's mother appeared to be approximately 5 years older than Belle. Grade F for whoever is in charge of makeup on OUaT. Does the make up team hate Emilie de Ravin? SQ is killing it. I am liking the character and the actress. I love that she is more deranged/psychotic than just plain run of the mill evil or...(dramatic pause) wicked, like Zelena. Is there a new director? Some scenes threw me off, like the weird camera angle starting at Emma's VW bug's headlight. The mirror saved Belle's storyline for me, as otherwise I was completely underwhelmed.
  7. I love that the Charlie character is used judiciously; a little goes a long way. Josh is an ass, so you can't blame Charlie for taking the opportunity to punch him in the face when warranted! Speaking of punching, Bow's reaction to the "intruder" Josh was great. Dre's laziness? Hilarious. The fridge cam that he checks upstairs from his iPad is pretty genius. My favorite part was Dre trying to kill that blow up Halloween thing at the end and the subsequent popping up behind him. Hee. Dre knew they were planning on doing the home invasion prank because he heard Bow talking about it w/the kids while opening the fridge (remember he has a fridge cam!). In retaliation, Dre had Josh and Charlie pose as masked intruders. As Josh entered the house, Bow clocked him in the face.
  8. A million times yes. The new neighbors are without question the shark that has now been jumped. This was the worst Halloween episode they have done to date and just another poorly written episode in a season of crappy episodes (thus far). I found Lily in her Waldo costume next to the hobo bit funny. Everything else, not so much. RIP, Modern Family. This has been the worst season yet and with every passing episode, my hopes for the writers getting it together are waning.
  9. I agree with the posters above about Taylor 3 Names (T3N) being both Winona and Keanu-esque. In fact, if Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder had a child, I'm pretty sure T3N would be the outcome. I hope the hat isn't his "thing" for the whole competition. I wanted to smack that pork pie hat off of both Josh Kaufman's and Tony Lucca's heads. Don't set off my hat induced rage this season, T3N! Thoughts from last night's show: I enjoyed Troy's Hey Ya. I thought it was fun and I liked the acoustic beginning of the song (good call, Swifty). I didn't see what the big deal was about T3N's song. It was perfectly fine but it didn't wow me like it seemed to wow the judges. I'm sure he'll do fine when the lives start, since he is a generically cute young white guy. I can't stand Elyjuh's singing faces. Technically he sounds great but then I see those faces he makes and I get embarassed for him and I have to look away. I preferred Alessandra over Mia, so I was sad to see her go. Still loving TSwift as a mentor.
  10. That's what all coaches do in the Blinds: they talk up the person auditioning, promise them the world, then only 50% make it through the Battles. If you are going to call Pharell out on that behavior, then you would have to do the same for the rest of them (especially Adam, known for his YourTheBestEverMyFavoriteLetsWinThis speeches during the Blinds, before he dumps half of his stacked team). I find Katriz to have the same issue that I thought Danielle Bradbury had a couple seasons back...nice voice, technical singer, but ZERO emotion or feeling behind it. Danielle was ol' dead eyes and I feared it would be that all over again with Katriz. I would have liked to see Katriz stay around longer to see if she could be coached through it, so that's unfortunate. Notable moments for me: -I am glad Gwen's coaching called Sugar out on that growling nonsense -Bryana is S5's Jacquie's little sister -Jesse Pitt is winner of this year's Affected Voice trophy, joining the likes of Caroline Glaser -I am one of the few people on earth neutral on TSwift...don't love her or hate her. I thought she did great in the mentoring position. I know she doesn't have a phenomenal voice or anything but no doubt, the woman knows how to perform. I like Chris Martin better than her music-wise but she mops the floor with him when it comes to mentoring.
  11. I like the kids playing Jack and Diane BUT....I think they are walking a fine line with respect to the quote above. They aren't far off from getting into Olivia/Cosby Show territory. I am putting my trust in the writers that they will use the kids judiciously and not Olivia us. Even though the preview spoiled it, I still loved Diane's "Dead man walking".
  12. Probably because the bulk of viewers, myself included, have no idea how many stars belong on a cop's patch. Zero? Twelve? I have no idea.
  13. I agree, which then reminds me that I think I am giving this show a much bigger chance than it deserves because I want it to fill the void that Happy Endings left. I keep forgetting that Annie is not Penny. This episode was much better than the pilot. I loved the Botox bit (Bruce Jenner!) and how Annie defaulted to bad 1990s era stand-up.
  14. I keep track by looking at the air date in each thread title; this thread says 2014.10.21, or last night's episode. I think the last Blind Auditions ended on episode 5, so we're well beyond that now.
  15. What a snoozefest. I can't even muster the energy to comment on any of those battles. I intensely loathe the large amount of montaging that goes on with this show and last night was no exception. I wanted to see Allison Bray's performance, since she showed promise with that Kacey Musgraves song in the Blinds. The Voice is on for three hours a week. Seriously, show? You can't free up some time to show all of the battles? I get they want to save face for the coaches if someone really tanks but it makes for awful TV. I remember last season when Kristin Merlin kept getting montaged week after week, when they finally showed her in the Lives I was all "Who the f is that?" It puts contestents at a huge disadvantage if they end up progressing through the show. Also, Gwen? Enough with the last second steals as the person is practically back in their car heading home.
  16. I agree, What about spending a night at the nice hotel where Clive Bixby and Julianna meet up? Instead we are supposed to believe that the Dunphy's would book a stay at a lower budget motel. On the positive side, the Sex Grenade scene did make me laugh. Mitchell going on and on and on about his lack of support for Cam when Lily was talking to him...my god. I wanted to hit him. The Tucker Prichetts have become insufferable. I used to think Cam was the worst but Mitchell has caught up. This was yet another thoroughly "meh" episode for me. I am starting to only watch it these days because it leads into Black-ish!
  17. Yup- he just released an album a few weeks ago that debuted at #1 on Billboard's all genre chart and someone I knew saw him live earlier this summer, so he was on tour. I listen to all genres, including some country. I wasn't terribly familiar w/Blake's music before The Voice but knew who he was. Same with Little Big Town, I have heard of them and I know one terrible song by them (Pontoon- truly, it is awful). I am in my 30s and was a Bush fan in the 90s, so I immediately knew who Gavin was.
  18. YES, exactly. Gavin Rossdale hasn't really been on the radar since the 1990s. I say that as a woman in her late 30s that may or may not have rocked a Bush cassette tape in her car, singing along to Machinehead, circa 1995. Apparently Bush has a new album coming out that I am sure he will be promoting but do 17 year old Voice contestants know who he is? Doubtful. I'm sure most would rather Alicia Keys be their mentor.
  19. Agreed. I have watched every episode of OUAT original recipe. I was excited for and watched the OUAT: IW pilot and found the acting and writing to be atrocious. I am pretty sure I didn't make it through the full hour. For me (and also the few others I know who like OUAT and gave OUAT: IW a chance), it had nothing to do with timeslot and everything to do with the pilot being awful. There are too many good quality shows on TV, so many I don't have time to watch them all. I won't waste my time on a poorly acted and written 1 hour drama. No thanks.
  20. I see OUAT blew their entire CGI budget for this season on the stone troll. He was great; the rest of the CGI was awful as usual. The snowman was laugh out loud horrible. I have never seen Frozen and don’t plan on it so I came into this unbiased and not giving a hoot about any of them. I thought the Frozen stuff was well done though I don’t really understand Elsa’s powers, so I feel like I am missing some backstory by having not seen the movie. I didn’t know Regina still had people locked up. So Sidney was stuck in the hospital dungeon wing…is anyone else there? I don’t mind that Regina and Rumple walk the line of good and evil, teetering in either direction at times. If everyone was on Team Good I would have stopped watching long ago. Shallow end of the pool: I hate Elsa’s dress, it looks like an elongated version of a figure skating costume. I still think Hook is hot, even if he hasn’t embraced modern fashion (including losing the guyliner).
  21. I was so happy that Pez girl didn’t get through. She had that same awful affected voice as Caroline Glaser. Just sing, dammit. Lose the ridiculous affectation. Also, just an FYI: most of America knows what a Pez dispenser is and how it works. I guess that’s what we get when there is an absence of a dead parent/childhood tragedy/terminal illness sob story.
  22. It doesn't surprise me at all that talented people keep auditioning for The Voice. Sure, winning The Voice isn't your ticket to stardom but the show is great exposure for many of them, including the people that didn't win but made it fairly far. Many people have become fans of Michelle Chamuel, Melanie Martinez, etc., people who had never heard of them before but still follow their careers long after their season was over. Blake has boosted the careers of Danielle Bradbury and Casadee Pope with wins, that Swon Brothers song was all over country radio this summer. I am sure being on the show certainly hasn't hurt any of them. So far I am not terribly impressed with any of the blind auditions but I tend to only half-watch at this point. I can't commit to watching this show for FOUR HOURS a week with 90% of it filler sob stories.I will never remember any of these people once the knockouts and all of that jazz starts up, plus we will lose 50 percent of them at that point anyway. It isn't like blind auditions are an indicator of success later on. For example, Bria wowed everyone in the blinds, then disintegrated. Cole got a one chair turn (Cee Lo, I think?) but then made it pretty far. After watching the second episode, I agree with others that Adam is more deparate this season. Pharrell is definitely a threat to his usual stacked team (thankfully).
  23. Cassadee Pope performed a free concert at a casino near me last night, so I figured what the hell, and went and saw her perform. I liked her well enough on The Voice but was pretty neutral on her throughout her season. She put on a good show and sounded great. It was an hour and 15 min long set and she mainly did her own songs from her album with a few covers, including Over You (her big song on The Voice), Bed of Roses (Bon Jovi song), and some Shania Twain song (I hate Shania with a fiery passion). She had a good rapport going with the audience and I found her very likeable. Her band was pretty great, which also helped. ETA: I just watched that Christina Grimmie video posted above and holy hell, the whole time all I could think was it looks like Mayim Bialik's little sister. How have I never noticed that before?
  24. I can't believe Jenna Bush Hager snagged that exclusive interview this morning with President Bush! I sure do hope they are paying her the big bucks /eyeroll
  25. I am so very late to the Sherlock party and am now making my way through S2. I just watched the Hounds of Baskerville last night. I loved this episode. Hell, I love every episode. I didn't guess that Sherlock locked John up in the lab, though the reveal of that made me laugh. Now I can't wait to see what the ending means for Sherlock and John now that Mycroft has apparently let a Sherlock-crazed Moriarty out of jail.
