  1. Yeah, I figured what poem it was, but would have written the wrong thing anyway.
  2. YES. Of course they think they are picking based on straight quality. But when the decision-makers are all middle-aged white men, you end up with a self-perpetuating cycle. I actually think Effie was talking about gender more than race, but that's hard to hear from a black woman. Seriously. And having to say out loud, when she hasn't even raised her voice, "I'm not angry." Just ugh. Seriously. I don't think diversity in any respect even crossed anyone's mind, other than Effie. This just seems like the most ridiculous choice possible. He barely wanted the job!!! Also, everything Nick Reinwald-Jones said.
  3. Oh funny, I thought Liz was basically unrecognizable, because she's actually so generic looking -- the hair and makeup made her look like a different person! Vanessa looked like Vanessa with dark hair.
  4. Best moment of the episode: Johnny Mac telling Vanessa about his conversation with Austin, Vanessa freaking out about his "making a deal" with A and freaking about and asking why he did it, and it was because she told him to! Someone on one of these threads said Vanessa is playing " a game and a half," and that's about right.
  5. Some movies really benefit from watching them over and over again, and with a group, and that feels pretty unlikely to happen when I'm only seeing it for the first time as an adult.
  6. I went looking for the movie and didn't find it On Demand -- I should look again! I think it's fascinating to think about how Shia could have turned it around as he grew up, but obviously didn't. I mean, Matt and Ben were kind of dicks as wunderkinds, too, but they both grew up fine, you know?
  7. Same. Except for the working from home part.
  8. I saw Stephen King speak last night, and at some point he made reference to Under the Dome, saying "not the TV show of the same name...." and of course I immediately thought of Tara. And also Sarah saying "...Domer." FYI!
  9. If it had been two men, they would have been "brothers," as noted by Cat! Does anyone else on this board listen to Extra Hot Great? When Virgil started his solo, I was subconsciously waiting for a beat to drop in, and then I couldn't figure out why, and then I realized it was "[Coop!] There It Is!" and not a real thing.
  10. And my favorite thing that makes you realize that this takes place in Olden Dayes is how they are constantly writing someone a letter.
  11. I called him Cinnamon Toastencrunch exclusively for a LONG TIME after that.
  12. Re: "Cheesy Sunday School script," I loved it when Ben said something about Davey and Goliath. Did other people watch that show??
  13. September 14 is a Monday, at least, unlike October 14?
  14. I'm guessing they didn't think so much about that latter part especially. It was so long ago! I just finished watching S1 for the first time last night, and what a clusterfuck! I agree with Chris Moore that the whole process needed a firmer hand. Of course making a studio movie, even a tiny studio movie, is very different from making a movie on credit cards and dreams!
  15. Seems like it's got to be time to put up the Austwins, no? With three people, you could get one of them out for sure, regardless of the Veto! I mean, if anyone was willing to "get blood on their hands," and not wait for "the house" to do it.
  16. I once again felt like the Alex/Kevin O'Leary interactions were right on the verge of SNL Celebrity Jeopardy! Alex: "This number blah blah blah..." Keven: "What is blue!" Alex: "This number, Kevin."
  17. Didn't he say to someone that being nice at the beginning was part of his strategy?
  18. You know, that hadn't really occurred to me -- when I have two people I know I want to use a power on, to just alternate! I'm not sure I've been in that position, but it's good to think about for the future! PS: Did anyone notice how many times I said I was "reading the story"? :)
  19. I feel like Austin could have put James up, telling him (and meaning it) that it's so he's guaranteed to play Veto, has a good shot of winning, and then taking himself off. That gives Austin the ability to either stick to evicting John or swapping out for Vanessa (which clearly will never happen). I really don't understand having to convince the nominees to "agree" to go on the block, but I guess it is the result of everyone having some level of deal with everyone else. What ever happened to "I'm not here to make friends!"??
  20. Yeah, I appreciate anyone who is trying to entertain (1) himself, (2) other houseguests, (3) me.
  21. Huzzah, huzzah! Good game. So, nothing catastrophic would have happened if the Grandfather was killed?
  22. I would have said just tag it, because obviously it's not a huge deal, but you know there are people in this world who don't watch previews, so.
  23. Sarah, I was also obsessed with Vanity Fair/the Millers at that time! It bums me out to talk to people who don't know who I mean. "Duty-free scions? Married well??
