  1. Maybe! Technology is odd sometimes. Some things just work well and have for the same way for a long time. And other things have an innovation every once in a while that makes me think, "why the heck didn't we think of this sooner?" Like putting wheels on luggage. That was an idea that took WAY too long for us to figure out. The steam function is definitely not the reason I bought this model of dryer. It's just something that I've never had before, so I am interested to see if I have a use for it.
  2. I do have a snapshot in time that lives in my head. I remember the exact TV show that brought me to TWoP, and that was 2004. Those forums had moderators in place because they wanted people to be able to express their thoughts without other people being jerks. So yeah, it's been at least 20 years since people have been given free reign to insult other people with no consequences. It's been even longer since people started to believe that stuff should just be free, and it's totally okay to just go ahead and take stuff you didn't pay for. (That's another thing that came with the internet and the lack of any real consequences for essentially stealing music and entertainment.) It's not a big shock to me that people have started getting a little too confident about talking to people in person the way they talk to them on the internet. We've been getting accustomed to the death of civility for two decades.
  3. Got a text from the install contractor late yesterday that they're going to be in my area today. So now I wait to hear from them that they're on the way to replace my dryer. For all I know, I may wait all day to not hear anything, but I remain optimistic that won't happen. I'm weirdly excited about getting to mess around with my new dryer. It's got a "steam dryer" cycle, which I believe can be used to deal with wrinkles for already clean clothes.
  4. LOL. Yes, the Britney and Jackson Mahomes meme-machines were cranked up to full power after that game. They had been sitting in the closet for a while, but this new development in Chiefs land got everybody's creative juices flowing again. The rest of this weeks memes and reels were mostly about Miami/Denver and how bad the Bears are.
  5. Good lord. That guy put way too much thought into it. It's a social satire. Every episode stands on it's own for whatever it is they're satirizing that week. Period. In completely unrelated news, I've been hearing this absolute savagery from Lenny and especially Carl in my head for the last day.
  6. Indeed. Does Facebook Marketplace have a "sellers rating" the way Ebay does? Because that would be a good way to both keep people from doing that and keep us from having contacting people like that.
  7. The older seasons are available on all sorts of different streaming services. I've been watching a bit of season three. This is when we started seeing the interesting blend of part-time smiths and the show starting to dial up some more interesting challenges. A LOT of the work done by the guys in the early seasons is really impressive.
  8. Your post that is now the opening post for the Health & Wellness Pet Peeves topic is the perfect way to start that new topic. I couldn't have written a better example of what the new topic should be and what we are asking people not to post in this topic going forward. Just for clarity for everybody: "The vagueness in doctors' handouts..." This belongs in Health & Wellness The word "colonoscopy" anywhere Health & Wellness "no food after 10 am on the day before procedure..." Health & Wellness We're not going to go back and move any posts prior to the announcement of the new topic. Consider the announcement of the new topic as the K-T boundary of health pet peeves. Before the announcement, dinosaurs and colonoscopies roamed free in Pet Peeves. After the announcement, they will be obliterated by meteors.
  9. Oh, it's going to be ridiculous for at least a couple more weeks. I've heard at least a dozen instances of Taylor Swift lyrics worked into the sports recap of the Chiefs game or one of her songs as the intro into Chiefs highlights today.
  10. Taylor Swift isn't just a musical artist. She's a huge star. The entertainment news media wants to know and report on everything she does. The fact that she's crossing over a little bit into the NFL world is ridiculously big news. Our NFL world will include Taylor Swift for as long as Kelce remains charming enough to keep her interested in him. (In other words, it's up to Travis Kelce's personality to put an end to it.)
  11. I think one engine on the plane they were on lost oil pressure. It sounds like they're almost home now.
  12. By popular demand, the Health & Wellness section of Everything Else now has its very own Pet Peeves topic!!! Please use that super-cool new topic to discuss all of your health and wellness peeves including, but not limited to: Doctors making us wait for hours Insurance claim nightmares Nasal cavity polyps making your aunt's neighbor's best friend's breathing sound funny
  13. Already off to a good start, welcome to Pet Peeves: Health and Wellness Edition! A safe place to air your grievances.
  14. I honestly don't think they've got the firepower to repeat this year. The WR group is a couple sandwiches short of a picnic, and the defense is okay, but not great. I'm not sure which team will come out on top of the AFC, but I do think somebody will have a chance to knock the Chiefs off the top of the hill. And if SF and Philadelphia stay healthy, it would seem as though the NFC will have a very strong team representing them in the Super Bowl. (Says JTMacc99 with 82% of the season still to be played.)
  15. They mentioned it only briefly during the Miami beat down, but I'm wondering if the brutal sun/heat/humidity contributed to Denver mailing it it as the game got out of reach. Miami sets up the stadium so that their side is in the shade while the opponent's side is baking in the sun. The Broncos are a team that's used to the crisp mountain air. It had to be a factor in the second half.
  16. So last week, the NFC East went 4-0. They're 0-3 so far this week. I say we root for 0-4 tonight. Who is with me! I'll defend my quarterback a little bit here. First of all, I've heard the "overpaid Jones" thing on the NFL radio a few times. Ignoring fans, because fans, the VAST majority of hosts/guest who make that statement are former Running Backs and Defensive Backs. Their angle is "The Giants could give Jones all that money, but not anything to Barkley." Which I get, they're defending the great RB, but it's specious reasoning. Decent Quarterbacks are worth a lot more to a team than excellent Running Backs. See: NY Jets 2023 for a demonstration of this fact. Second, Llamar Jackson got twice as much guaranteed money as Jones, and at this moment Jackson is statistically just a fancy Jones because he has an MVP award from 5 seasons ago on his resume. Yet not a single person ever uses Jackson as an example of somebody who got a lot of money. 2022 stats: Jackson: 17 TD, 7 INT, 62.7 Cmp%, Rate 91.1, 764 Yds rushing, 3 TDs 2022 stats: Jones: 15 TD, 5 INT, 67.2 Cmp%, Rate 92.5, 707 Yds rushing, 7 TDs Jackson $135 Million Guaranteed at signing, $185M in total guarantees. Jones $82 Million Guaranteed at signing, $105M in total guarantees. The big difference between the two right now is that Jackson doesn't have to survive games where the five worst players on the field (per Pro Football Focus's evaluation, which matches the eye test) just happen to be the five starting offensive linemen. Here are your NY Giants ladies and gentlemen from that SF game: If you're not familiar with PFF ratings, Blue is very good, red is very bad. The Giants guards got pass blocking ratings of 3.8 and 3.9 in that game. That makes the Denver Broncos performance this weekend look pretty decent. That makes Blutowski's GPA of 0.0 sound reasonable. To get a grade of 3.8, that means that they made mostly below average or bad plays on virtually every passing down. But yeah, let's call out Jones as the problem who didn't deserve his contract. The Giants had 99 problems in that game, and Jones was far down the list of what they were.
  17. This Sunday night game has “unwatchable” written all over it.
  18. Too late! FWIW, dogs have the same amount of bacteria in their mouths as we do, but the kind in their mouths don’t jump to us. So that’s the point of “dogs have cleaner mouths”. It means that it’s safer to get a kiss from a dog than from another human (bacteria wise). Assuming, of course, the dog wasn’t just out in the yard sampling various animal turds as they’ll do.
  19. Heh. Keep them away from my appliances as my dryer decided it was going to start making the same sound Star Wars TIE fighters make about three weeks ago. I decided to let Lowe's do the installation rather than doing it myself. They had a full rebate on the install (a Lowe's gift card, but whatever, I'll use it on garden stuff that I was going to buy anyway) AND when you have the work done here in NY, the state considers it a capital improvement so I save the 8.13% sales tax. First installation date was scheduled to be this past Monday, but the installer texted me that morning to say that he's got van issues and will need to reschedule. Lowe's then checked in with me yesterday and said next available appointment will be October 4th. Sigh... I mean, I know it's a gas dryer, and I should probably let the expert do the installation. And I really don't want to be the one doing all the heavy lifting, and I can go either way with the rebate on the install. But I still could just tell them to deliver the damn thing tomorrow and I'll hook it up. However what's really making me put up with this LONG time between purchase and install is the sales tax. I have no interest in giving that money back.
  20. This is such an interesting question, because I'm trying not to analyze everything I might think about it and just try to imagine my immediate reaction. First of all, I'm sure I've already judged the dog and evaluated what kind of pet owner my new friend is. Meaning, I'm sure that in this situation, I'm probably not going to be taken by complete surprise by a person who prepares a plate of food for their dog. Using the dinner plate might get an eyebrow from me, but not much more than that. I've had as many as four dogs living in my house at one time. I'm pretty over worrying about second hand dog drool being involved in my life. For sure I would look at WHAT kind of food they gave the dog. Dogs can eat, and benefit from eating, all sorts of meats and vegetables. If I saw something that I know to be not one of those good things, I'd ask about it. Sometimes people just don't know. But you know, if the dog is eating a plate of food tonight, it's probably eating plates of food regularly. My default reaction would be to assume that the owner has put some thought into it. (Unless I've also judged my new friend to be not that bright.)
  21. @mojoween whatever the definition of YAC is, the Niners are indeed very good at it. They get a lot of yards and first downs on plays where one would think it could have been stopped earlier. Last night the Giants came after them with a ton of blitzes and Purdy got rid of the ball really quickly. I think I read it was the shortest average time to release the pass in his career. And then all of those really good skill players on that team just tear up the field for extra yards. I'm sure some team has the solution for dealing with it.
  22. Hey! The Giants scored in the first quarter. And they said it couldn’t be done. still watching this game like this though:
  23. Unfortunately facts vs "reports" and social media speculation are all blended together in this story. From what I can tell from actual reputable sources at this point is that Peanut Tillman is FBI these days, but had absolutely no involvement with anything going on here. The FBI did NOT conduct any raids at the Bears facilities. And it is possible/probable that the FBI did go to the Williams home. Information about why the FBI is involved doesn't seem to have any legitimate news. In addition to what people are speculating about on social media per that article, I've also heard somebody throw out drugs being involved. Nobody seems to have any real information. And I would venture a guess that if the FBI turned up something on coach Williams that was clearly a felony, the dude would have been arrested.
  24. Sounds like Dallas lost Diggs to a serious knee injury today in practice. That's a rough one. CBs are not easy to replace.
