  1. It's actually been going on for a LONG time in Pittsburgh. Since their last Super Bowl appearance in 2010, the Steelers have had 8 playoff appearances. Only in two of those years did they win a game. In addition to this year, they also had 5 one-and-done years with Roethlisberger. They won a wildcard game in 2015 18-16 over the Bengals in 2015 before losing to the eventual champion Broncos in the divisional round, and they won two games in 2016 before again losing to the eventual champion Patriots in the AFC Championship. There is no shame in losing to that Broncos defense in 2015 or that Brady lit them up in 2016, But I can see how all of the other 1 game and they go home appearances are starting to sit poorly with the fans. Since 2017 the Steelers are 70-43-2. The Jets were 39-79-0 in that same period. They have won the same number of playoff games during that stretch.
  2. Yeah. I think that one might be an issue with the guys on the field. They had serious issues with linebackers didn't they? Injury problems that had them really deep into the depth chart? Because that would show up with tackling. It's usually LBs who lead the team in tackles. They also had injuries and old dudes in the secondary. The old dudes need to be upgraded, but there's some hope that anywhere with bad injury issues in 2023 would be okay in 2024.
  3. Ooh! "Impassioned entrepreneurs". I like them more than the blasé entrepreneurs we usually get.
  4. They can certainly make coaching changes, but it is difficult for any team to make sweeping personnel changes, and especially for teams that make extensive use of dead years and future payments like the Eagles. They did the right thing to keep together a veteran team that almost won the championship last year. The downside is that it's harder to clean house and bring in new talent. I'm sure they'll have some tricks up their sleeves to keep themselves competitive. Just look at the Rams. They had to go with a TON of young and inexpensive talent, and they're doing just fine.
  5. We've got about 3-4 inches of light, powdery snow here North and West of NYC. Cold today, but not sub zero. Nice thing about the super light snow is that I could use my little leaf blower to clean off the back porch so that Norman doesn't track it into the house.
  6. The Cowboys are 5-13 in the playoffs and haven't been to and NFC Championship since Homer acquired Tom Landry's hat.
  7. Peacock will definitely be worth the money I spent this summer during the Olympics. The streaming platform is by far the best way to cover that event. NBC proper can show the events that they always show, MSNBC can show basketball games, and I can be watching the 14th Peacock channel coverage of table tennis and air rifles. (Not in the same event, but I'm filing that one away for the suggestion box.) As I'm never super invested in any football games that aren't played by my own team, I actually can't see me as somebody who would sign up for it just for NFL games. Speaking of NFL games, anybody know how the weather is going in Buffalo right now? Are we going to see snow falling as the game's being played?
  8. Right! NBC (Peacock), CBS (Paramount), and ABC (Disney+) all already get like $6 a month from us from our regular cable package. I've resented the way they choose to put good stuff exclusively on the streaming platforms. I mean, I understand why they're double dipping, but it still annoys me that it's working. For what it's worth it appears that from a business perspective, putting the game on Peacock was extremely successful.
  9. It’s Quinn’s vaunted defense that’s getting ass-whooped. Not sure how McCarthy is the fall guy for this game, other than he is the head coach
  10. Dallas is a thug team that runs up the score all the time. I hope Green Bay scores another four touchdowns
  11. The big issue is that the state has a a full travel ban for Erie county starting later tonight. So yeah, if the weather sucks into Monday, that could be a problem. But as long as it isn’t full blizzard, the people in that area are prepared to drive in post blizzard conditions
  12. They just moved it to Monday. It's completely unreasonable to play on Sunday. There is zero chance I would go to that game even if I had tickets already paid for. I have boots that would actually keep my feet warm, but everything else I'm ill equipped to survive in that kind of weather.
  13. Hey everybody! I just wanted to give you a heads up that festivus and I will no longer be the moderators for this Everything Else section. When we are replaced, I'm sure the new moderators will introduce themselves. I've really enjoyed overseeing the area and expect to continue chiming in with my two cents and stories about lost jars of mayonnaise. Much like the way many of you were invested in my mayonnaise saga, I am invested in all of your stories and your experience here. I've recently become concerned that I am unaware of some things that might have been impacting your experiences in the forums. And just to be clear, I am very aware of anything people have posted here or in bugs or officially reported, and I hope that somebody worked to solve those things. I know that if it were something I could do, I did my best! What I would not be aware of would be any bullying or other similar attacks sent as a Private Message. If you have ever received a troubling private message from anyone, regardless of who they are, would you please open up a new PM with me @JTMacc99 and let me know what happened. I really like all of you, and I want to do what I can to make sure this kind of behavior doesn't impact you or any other users here.
  14. I stopped listening to the local sports talk radio programs 20 years ago. I got the gist of it, which was very entertaining for a while to me, which is that the hosts need to voice their opinions in the form of declarative statements. That gets people listen and feel compelled to call up and phrase their own opinion as a declarative statement. And round and round they go. Now days I only listen to the NFL Radio on Sirius, as the hosts are rarely if ever making statements just to get people riled up. The fans are still insane, but that's okay as long as the hosts are NOT saying stuff just to make sure they hit ratings targets. And McAfee was a kicker in the NFL. A good kicker actually, who made a couple pro bowls and one All Pro recognition. Because he has that voice and enough charisma (like or or hate it) to be analyst, that's where he landed after his career ended. He also has made connections with pro wrestling, which I didn't know until I just looked him up, and that makes perfect sense.
  15. I would be careful about fart shaming people. They might have a medical condition or maybe come from a culture that has food rich with oligosaccharides. They could also be old and not have the control a younger person might have.
  16. Washington is actually a desirable job for the first time in forever. They have (one would assume) a stable ownership group, some decent talent already on the roster, and a very high draft pick in a year where it appears they can land a solid QB prospect. Chargers is also desirable. They really weren't a BAD team under Staley, they just weren't good enough. They also have high picks this year and they have a real QB. (Downside is that they have some salary cap issues and may need to part ways with some high paid talent, and they're short on fan support.) Seattle has a very stable organization and good winning culture, so that's also a place where a veteran coach would feel like he could step right in and do well, provided he believes they have the answer at QB. Tennessee, Las Vegas, Atlanta are all to me middle of the road kind of jobs. Rosters are okay, but who is playing QB for you? The ownership isn't terrible. A good coach could make those teams work. And then nobody in their right mind would take the Panthers job, so I would expect that one to go to a first time guy looking for an opportunity.
  17. The Chargers are not in a rebuild; they are more of an underachieving bunch that got hit hard with injuries.
  18. I think he simply loves coaching football and doesn't want to stop doing it. And yeah, I don't think he would go anywhere with the idea of just being there for one year. I could certainly be wrong about this, but the man has eight Super Bowl rings. I just don't feel like he's sticking around to chase records or seek validation that he can win without Tom Brady. I feel like he's not lacking self confidence and pride in what he's done.
  19. The problem cable companies have is that they're the Brick and Mortar Bookstore versus Amazon when it comes to delivering TV. You can get YouTube TV or Hulu with a good cable bundle for like $80. That is essentially selling it at cost (meaning that's how much they turn around and send to Fox, Disney, Paramount, etc. for all of the programming.) Google can do that because they have the ability to make money from advertising and data that cable companies can't do, and losing a few million dollars in that business isn't a blip on their income statement. And they pay exactly $0 to deliver their product to our home. They get 100% free access to the internet. Other than the few places where they have Google Fiber, they have no trucks, no employees, no upkeep dollars at all for the million miles of fiber and cable that connects them to our homes. Traditional cable can't compete. So what they can do is stop delivering cable the way they always have and switch to app based. Meaning, they're also delivering the TV over the internet. And that lets them use the entire system for delivering internet, which makes it MUCH more efficient. Imagine that the cable connecting your house to the cable company is a 7 lane freeway. Like 4 or 5 lanes are being used exclusively for TV and the rest are for the internet. When they go to all app based TV, all 7 lanes can be for internet, and the part that delivers TV might use up 1 lane.
  20. I listened to it on the radio. It sure sounded like Kraft believes that Belichick will be coaching somewhere next season.
  21. I don't think Belichick should move on to another team to be honest. He is still the absolute top at working up strategies and football in general. But is he the guy who can right now also build an entirely new staff somewhere, and what's his thought on working with a front office as opposed to running it? And all of the things a new HC has to do in an organization, is he really interested in taking all of that on? I mean, if he wants to come back home to the Giants and just be a football coach without all of the other BS that a head coach has to do, I'd welcome him with open arms to run the defense. (Can you imagine that scenario? Guys, I'd like to introduce you to our new defensive coordinator...) Belichick has good memories of his time with the Giants.
  22. Holy shit. Yeah... that could be a hell of a problem for FN. All of the hyping him up and feel good stories that they do about all of the chefs isn't going to go over well with anybody in the audience who is aware of the strangulation and menacing charges. Can't imagine they could just edit him out, although they probably could just skip his rounds entirely (if he loses relatively early on) and just show three matches in the two hours and flash up the brackets with no mention of him or his match.
  23. From what I'm hearing, I wasn't wrong about Wink simply not being happy that his boss told him what to do. Oh well.
  24. A place to discuss news about Tournament of Champions.
  25. I use the BeeGreen grocery bags. They're SUPER strong and fold up into a neat little pouch. We've been no plastic bags for years, and I've been using my set of bags for the entire time. Back when I bought them, there was like one pattern that wasn't flowers, so mine are constellations. If there were any reason at all for me to get new ones, I would definitely get this pattern:
