Hi Moose...Booker certainly is a very large man...2,019 pounds. Wow...Just give him the ball and get out of the way!

Ok...I'll ask a different question. How can Rory do so well in college when she returns home almost every weekend (Friday dinner, Saturday wandering around Stars Hollow, etc). When does she actually study? How many hours per class does she actually study?

So, I finished Stephen King's The Stand. This was the extended version, over 1,100 pages. Yes, it is post-apocalyptic...with a population-killing virus with no anti-virus cure. I recommend it for Stephen King fans. Everyone else? No, not really.

Robert: I missed the segment. My understanding is that: Ms. Chao was born in China, and immigrated to the US when she was 8 years old. Graduated from Mt Holyoke and Harvard Business School. She held senior positions in the Reagan and Bush I administrations She also had positions in the Peace Corps and United Way She was the Secy of Labor for all 8 years of the Bush II administration She was also the Secy of Transportation in the Trump admin. My gosh...that is one heck of a resume! But, the Transportation Dept IG found cases where she used her position to promote her father's shipping business. This is a Chinese state-owned shipping business, reportedly with significant work done for the Chinese Navy. Also, the IG investigation indicated that, during her tenure, her Dept of Transportation tried to cut funding and loans to American shipping companies (which would benefit her father's shipping business). There were other reports. But, in 2020, the Inspector General was removed from office.

Agree 100%. Bill would only give Watt a few million at best., then add in incentives. Too bad to see such a terrific player approach the end.

Emma: This is the kind of player that New England's Bill Belichick picks up. Star, veteran, other side of his career, still a solid contributor. Only problem is that Bill no longer has that powerful recruiting tool: We go to the Super Bowl. Oh well.

Hi Lamb18. His resume certainly says he knows how to coach. According to Wikipedia: Finch was a D3 All American with defense as his forte. Played pro in England and Germany. Coached 1st in England, British B-ball League coach of the year in 1999 Moved to Germany to coach, fired for a 4-13 start, not sure of the year. Moved to Belgium 2005 to coach Euphony Bree, won their only Belgian basketball championship Changed Belgian teams, made it to the finals. 2009 took the NBA D-League Rio Grande team to 1st place in the western conference, for the first time, ultimately won the league championship. Assistant with the Houston Rockets in 2011. Well-regarded for his offenses. 2016 over to Denver. Associate Head Coach. 2017 to Toronto, assistant coach. 2021 to Minnesota as head coach

Tomorrow?!! That means TODAY?!! Oh gads...where did I leave my glove?!

Ok...problem: I cannot tell one bot from another. I need a photo array with names. Like a scorecard with pictures. But, I sure do like those huge collisions where both bots go flying.

So, I wandered into the bookstore and found The Stand by Stephen King. For some reason, I avoided his novels, but liked his movies: (Carrie, Misery: "I'm you're biggest fan", Dolores Claiborne). This is the 1,149 page version of The Stand. Ooh, I'm so smart. ONLY 1,000+ pages. And it is about a pandemic. How unique!

OK. Finished reading Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah. I was concerned that it might not have the overriding story line, as with The Great Alone and Nightingale. But it turned out to be a compelling story. Emotional, as with all Hannah novels. Worth the time.

Hi Quilt Fairy... Huge is really interesting. Seems to defy most designs, except for that monstrous spinning blade. The wheels look so fragile. Clearly they are not. Looks like you could attack from the side, if you could actually complete that maneuver.

My pet peeve: I am annoyed by the director taking the camera off the bots and showing the teams driving the bots. The people driving the bots...this shot adds nothing to the show, but definitely detracts from the action. As an old director, I recognize the compulsion to try to spice up the action by switching to a shot of the crews. But, as a fan, I say please keep the camera on the bots.

Hi CatLover... Did Cleveland ever resolve the issue of their name? Will they ever replace "Indians"?

Advice, please. I really, really liked Kristin Hannah's The Great Alone, and Nightingale. Two exceptional stories, featuring strong women in strong stories. Hannah features women in strong roles, but both Alone and Nightingale presented so much more in the story. Winter Garden, to me, was a weaker story, and more focused on women's issues. (If that makes sense). Now I've started Hannah's Firefly Lane, and I'm concerned that this is going to be less of a strong story and more of ...uhh...a story that appeals mostly to women. Is there a strong story here? Am I right?

Dustin Pedroia announced his retirement. Just could not come back from those injuries. A loss for the Red Sox and baseball.

I am amazed at how often a battle seems to be over in less than 30 seconds when a bot with a ferocious primary weapon suddenly loses that weapon. These hits must be ferocious to cause a 250 pound bot to go flying around the battle space.

For consideration: I politely suggest the best PLAYER of all time (both pitcher and hitter) was Babe Ruth.

Wow. Houston Texans were 11-5 in 2018, 10-6 in 2019. Made the playoffs in both years. Then in 2020, they fell off to 4-12. Gadzooks! What happened to cause such a drop off?

I had enough of serious books (Lessig's Republic, Lost) about money in politics. Gads...insightful, but depressing. So I switched to Spencer Quinn's Of Mutts and Men. Private Eye Bernie teams with his canine partner Chet. Most of the story is told through the insightful and humorous thoughts of Chet. Much better!

Oh boy...not a fun read, but an insightful one: Republic, Lost, by Lawrence Lessig. Substantive discussion of money in government. We all know that money drives government...this book maps out how it works.

Twoods and emma675 and Grosonwalls I offer this...How about the coach and/or GM talk to Kyrie, one of the team's stars, the guy they pay tons of money to, the co-leader of the team and inform him how they are going to improve the team. For pete's sake these managers know Kyrie is a bit twitchy on these issues. Yes, they pay him lots of money, but they should realize what they hired when the brought him on board. It is no secret that he wants some attention. They could easily have talked to him about this move. But, failing to do so, puts one of the league's star players into a funk. And puts the team's success into jeopardy. Yes, he is flakey, but he sure can take the rock to the hole.

Melorah... Excellent choice. Quick read. Could very well work as the first entry in a series. Enjoy!
-
Well now...Durant, Kyrie, and now Harden. on the Brooklyn Nets. My old high school coach would be mystified by the inability to play with three basketballs at one time. He used to strongly suggest SHARE THE ROCK...and he said it with, um, loud emphasis

A question: I decided to purchase Stephen King's The Stand. I like post-apocalyptic novels, and I recently heard this one recommended. But, it is over 1,000 pages. Agh! Is it worth it?
