  1. They had to change the actor anyway, either between 4th and 5th episodes or later. The former had the benefit that the first four episodes were shown weeks earlier than the rest.
  2. In the secon season we learned that Margaret was pregnant in the same time as Elizabeth and both had a baby on their laps when the family picture was taken in the end of the last episode. But there simple can't have too many characters. We never heard Anne or Edwards' kids, either.
  3. Doesn't his former affair make his kissing Marian suspect that he regards Marian as the next woman who he can seduce? Why was Raikes condemned for kissing Marian in the hotel but Larry isn't?
  4. It has already been done better in Buccaneers. And Gladys is dull.
  5. It wasn't only breaking the rules of the society but also those of friendship. How can they meet again as friends without feeling themselves awkeward and embrassed? And if Larry declares himself after the kiss, it's the lamest plot in the world.
  6. There is an elemental difference: Jo and professor Bhaer kissed after they had just been engaged. Larry hadn't even declared his love, nor his intentions, unlike Raikes did. Many here have earlier resented that Mr Fortune kissed Peggy in the barn after Ku Klux men had passed as well as Fellowes for describing first racism and then romance. But it's well-known from the time of war that being in danger can increase sexual desirs.
  7. All persons are different with other people and in different situations. I don't think that only a private self (or rather one of the private selves) is real. That would mean that a person's work didn't matter, nor its influence.
  8. In Gone With the Wind Mammy called Scarlett always Miss Scarlett akthough she was married thrice.
  9. Ada, liked most people at that time, isn't used to live alone. She would crave company at meals and in the evenings.
  10. I thought that, too. I am sure young people kissed also at that time, but not in the place they could be seen. And it was rather odd that after Marian said "we will be friends forever", Larry reacted by kissing her. Wouldn't it be awkward to meet again?
  11. I think just the opposite: the Queen saved Charles and, before all, Camilla by giving the public time to get used to her as Charles's wife. Not to speak of William who would have become the Prince of Wales in his twenties - his granny gave him time to live a normal life as long as possible.
  12. William was IMO wrong to snap although it was human. Royals and celebs must always behave well even towards impolite people because if they don't, it can be told to tabloids. Continueing: Actually, Kate and William's current girlfriend's comparision with what girls have to endure not so long ago wasn't so bad. I mean, what if they behaved like William when some man interrupts their speech, invades their company, makes intimate comments about their body, makes a pass uninvited? They would always behave so they don't hurt that poor man's feelings - if they snapped, they would be called worse names than being rude.
  13. I agree. "All is like before" is no good plot in fiction. Characters need real trials in order to develop. In addition, it wasn't at all witty as Fellowes thought but disgusting to hear Agnes behave like she had met the worst possible accident in the world - moving to a smaller house and having only two or three servants isn't poverty. Real ladies didn't wallow in self-pity! And it was really stuoiud of Marian to say that Oscar was unlucky. She herself was unlucky when her purse was stolen in the train station, that is, she didn't cause that to herself even partly. Instead, Oscar lost his mother's fortune by being both incompetent and greedy.
  14. Giving up journalism is only good to Peggy as she has no need to earn her living. Now she has time to write her novel. Re: Peggy, Agnes's maid and "not deserving pity": haven't they heard the maxim: "You get pity for free, but you has to deverve envy." Bertha once again deserved Turner's envy.
  15. During WW1, George V ordered that the the royal house is called Windsor. When Elizabeth II became the Queen, it was announced that the name stands, despite her marriage with Philip Mountbatten (see Season 1). Before Andrew was born, the Queen announced that her descendants who aren't in direct succession order would use the surname Mountbatten-Windor (see Season 2). The royal children who are in direct succession order don't use surname, but are called by their father's current title. Officially they were Prince Wiliam of Wales and Prince Harry of Wales. However, at school and in the miliitary they were called William Wales and Harry Wales.
  16. Well, Agnes said that she can't testament any money to Marian because everything was her husband's fortune and goes to Oscar after she dies. That sounds like she doesn't actually have the full ownership of the fortune but only its tenure so long as she lives. Yes, but that was characterized by aristocracy. In Sense and Sensibility Mrs Ferrars has full ownership of her fortune and can determine who inherits and who will not.
  17. Despite Bertha and George's faults, I think they both have some sort morality of their own. As Bertha said to a wife who came to ask for help after she had snubbed socially her and her husband had tried to ruin George: Are I in debt to you for something? That is, Bertha is good to those who have been good to her, but those who had treated her and/or George wrongly, don't get any help from her but must meet the consequences of their own actions. It has been said here that George "drive a man to suicide" by refusing to help him. Actually, that man chose to do a suicide because he was afraid to face financial ruin and social shame caused by his own foolish actions, thus showing that those outward things were more important to him than his family that he left to face them alone. Although George wasn't guilty, he was evidently shocked but also calculating; he was ready to leave the feud behind him on the condition that, as he said to her husband, Aurora helped Bertha socially. On the other hand, Turner continues vendetta towards Betha although she has really no valid reason. By trying to seduce George she showed that she lacks basic morality and also that she is a fool. She could have with justice been fired already then. When she came to Russells' house as a wealthy wife, Bertha was willing to hide her past but she begun a competition with her. Mrs Astor is a worthy adversary with Bertha, but Turner is surpassed by Bertha in everything.
  18. Yes, a greedy fool. "Never put on a risky investment more money than you are ready to lose." Oscar could have got a decent interest on his and family's money in order to live well, but that wasn't enough for him.
  19. There are many ways to react to to loss. William is openly angry, so his family and notice how he is hurting and at least try to help him. Instead, Harry shut himself from feelings, so it would have demanded a psychoatrist to notice that he isn't okay. Also, Charles's siblings never got much space.
  20. Kate has two siblings and have good relationshio with them, so she evidently thought that three children is good. Also, Charlotte, is a girl which probably makes her more like Anne than Harry.
  21. Actually, as was shown in the first episode of the season, Philip was a very poor match by all: he was born a foreigner, had nothing but his meagre salary in the navy, and was rumored to be a ladies' man. But Elizabeth fell in love with Philip when she was 13 years old and she never loved anyone else.
  22. My guess is that Morgan got his idea that Mou Mou had made Dodi court Diana by his bizarre behaviour irl shown in this episode. Because we were shown in 3rd episode that Dodi didn't dare to tell his father the truth, Mou Mou had a reason to believe in the engagement. But even then he isn't ready to face the facts that the Police says: the driver and the bodyguards were paid by al Fayed, the driver was seen drinking in Ritz and it was Dodi who decided that they go back to his apartment. I add: it was Dodi who insisted that they fly together Paris. Nobody else knew of their plans. On the basis of this episode, Mou Mou had severe mental problems. Yet, he was an adult who had other children.
  23. As Philip said, Harry's fancy uniform had two errors: soldiers in the Afrika Korps (actually none of Wehrmacht soldiers) didn't wear the swastika on their arm and it was the "original" swastika that has been used for centuries in many cultures whereas the Nazi swastika lies on its side. On the other had, Harry had an Iron Cross ribbon. Even if Carole Middleton had been scheming", what was the probability that William and Catherine would stay together after the university, not to speaking of marriage. Usually royals meet their future spouse later than in their early 20ies.
  24. I would have liked to get more about Tony Blair - success really get his head although history should have taught him better. Also general happenings that were so interesting in the earlier seasons were now limited.
  25. William is indeed an adult who can look at the large picture (the boys can have a better relationship with their father after he ceases to resent that he isn't allowed marry Camilla) whereas Harry is a rebellious teen who had just caused disgrace to him and his family. The Queen also sees the large picture: it's better that Charles is married when he becomes the king than that he is "living in sin" (let's remember that he is then also Defensor of Faith).
