  1. The only thing that comes across at all genuine is Whitney's response about her mother's stroke. The rest of it is more manufactured idiocy and drama. Ohhh... Lenny is with an attractive woman who's skinny and Whitney is so jelly because he should be panting after her. Who cares. While seeing a real emotional response from Whitney is novel, I hate that they filmed her at that moment. When my mom got sick, I was bawling at the drop of a hat. I'd start crying at work and have to run into an empty office so I wouldn't drawn attention to myself. This would be one time when I would expect her to be screaming at the camera crew to back off and leave her alone. As someone who had to deal with a catastrophic illness of a parent, I cannot fathom allowing my family situation to become fodder for a bottom-feeder cable show.
  2. Not gonna lie... I'll watch it too. If only for the pretty factor and to watch Jon and Tormond snark at one another for an hour each week.
  3. Let's be real... if Whitney's love life wasn't going through a deeper dry spell than the Gobi desert, she'd be happily spilling all the details. But after getting burned with the fake engagement storyline (and having so many people seeing right through it), I can get why she's now demanding privacy over her relationship (or lack thereof). My guess is that the actor that they hired to play Le Blur got cold feet and dropped out. After the last season ending with Whitney abandoning everything to chase after tru luv!, having it all fall apart off camera had to be embarrassing.
  4. That is exactly the point that I was (in a much more long-winded way_ was trying to make. If Whitney had an ounce of human decency in her, her first instinct should be to protect her mother. Babs is not in a good position to make a decision about appearing in the show when she's in this state and to be fair to Glen, I doubt that he is either. I just remember how my father put everything on the backburner because nothing was more important than caring for my mother. This show is nothing more than a circus sideshow attraction with a collection of freaks for the audience to gawk at. A woman recovering from a stroke should not be pressured to appear alongside her obese fart-bubble of a daughter.
  5. They may also be contractually obligated to appear for a certain amount each season. Their legal commitment is something that, I'm confident, has at least something to do with it. And for the most part, the show wasn't particularly intrusive on their lives. They would show up a few minutes each episode, join their daughter on trips paid for by the network and basically have to give a superficial window into their lives since Whitney is the focus. The stroke, IMO, changes everything. When you're dealing with a catastrophic illness or injury, it should not be made into another storyline for Whitney's show. Out of basic decency, Babs should be allowed her privacy so she can recover. If this were my mother (and I would give everything I have and would ever have for her to be back in my life), I wouldn't give a shit about the show and contracts and network expectations. They could sue me for every penny I had, but there would be no way in hell that I would allow them to film my mother in this situation. I would tell the go fuck themselves and call my lawyer if they had a problem with my decision. I would do anything I had to in order to protect my parents. And Whitney wouldn't need to cancel filming. Just any filming involving her parents. It's not like the majority of the show isn't scripted. Her mother's illness can be mentioned and we can get updates if it wouldn't be too intrusive (and her viewers would be concerned) and they could write Whitney another fake romance to fill up time. If the network objected, Whitney could use her social media pull to get her fans on her side (and I don't doubt that even the most idiotic of them would be in full favor of her protecting her mother). There's just no reason to put Babs on display when she's in this state.
  6. I feel like I can be especially critical because I have been dealing with being the caretaker for a parent for the past three years. First for my Mom when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, declined quickly and spent her last days at home on hospice care. Now I have to care for my father, who had an ocular stroke and was diagnosed with a cardiac issue this year. It's been a never ending roller coaster where I barely get a chance to take a moment for myself. I could never, in a million, billion years, ever think about putting my parent on display when they are at their lowest. The thought of having strangers watching my Mom when she was sick and in pain and needing me or a nurse to clean her after she soils herself and discussing just how sick she really is makes me absolutely nauseous. While Babs has been a willing participant on the show, the state she's in now changes everything. I can't imagine that Whitney would even want to focus on the show and not devote every waking moment to helping her mom. Instead, we're going to get maybe five minutes per episode of Whitney "helping" to care for her mother (which will probably just be barking out orders and getting in the way of any skilled professionals working with Babs) and the rest of the time bemoaning her love life, complaining that Buddy isn't devoting himself to her in her hour of need and having the barnacles blowing smoke up her over-sized ass about how "brave" and "strong" she's being for her family. This heifer can't care for herself or the poor creatures unfortunate enough to be her pets, so we're supposed to believe that she's going to be any real help to her mother? If I were in Whitney's clown shoes, I'd be cancelling production until my mom was better. Her illness should not be treated as entertainment fodder. But Whitney can never allow anything that she might be able to channel into sympathy and admiration from her hoard of sycophants. Who cares that it might be embarrassing or upsetting for Babs to be seen like this on television?
  7. You're right about that and with the drama surrounding poor Cordell right now, romance is not going to be a major consideration for at least a little while.
  8. You know that it's a good season finale when you're sitting there at the end, yelling "No!" at your television because it's going to be months until the next episode. *shakes fist in frustration* Glad that the Davidsons are wrapped up and will be reduced to a vague annoyance for the Walkers going forward. My sympathy for Gail is still at negative 1000 because she not only murdered her own husband and used his death as justification for her vendetta against the Walkers in general and Abby in particular, but she allowed a young teenage boy to carry the burden that he might have caused the death of someone else. That's pretty unforgiveable to me and I don't care how much remorse she shows now. Abby was right that Gail hadn't apologized for the harm that she'd done to so many people and she deserves a nice long stay in prison. Denise is little better, admitting that she did sabotage Cordell's saddle in order to let her family win the ranch. That is just the capper on a long season of bad, self-serving behavior (the worst being trying to railroad Bonham for the death of her father). She's going to have a long road ahead if she wants any kind of redemption, and she can start off by giving up her job in the DA office since she's proven that she's an unethical snake. Who would have thought that Dan would be the best of them, and I'm glad that he was willing to stand up to his wife but also want to repair their relationship once the truth came out. The Walkers, as a whole, are such a contrast. Despite everything that they've been through, they're optimistic, forward looking people who respect the past but don't let it rule them. They've got their ranch back (yay!) and Liam is now able to explore the idea of taking it over one day. I hope that he doesn't give up law permanently, but I like that he's considering other options for his life and that the Walker legacy will be a strong one. Stella is growing up and while she might be a little naïve about her relationship with Colton given the feud between their families, I'm glad that she's showing the strength of not letting it dictate her life. Now it will be Augie's turn to find his way. Glad that Trey is going to have a place in the series that doesn't circle back to him being Micky's ex-boyfriend. He'll make a great Ranger. And Cassie has really grown on me. She's got a good dynamic with the other characters and I'm looking forward to seeing her story develop. As a whole, the cast has been amazing and did a great job this season. I understand Geri needing time to figure things out, as she's had a lot dumped on her this season, and I get that trying to be in a relationship right now isn't the best idea for her. Hopefully she won't take too long in getting her head sorted out because Cordell doesn't deserve to be strung along. Speaking of Cordell... he got his closure about the barn burning down and can let go of a lot of the guilt that he'd been carting around this season. Between believing that he'd been responsible for Marv's death and then losing the race, it hadn't been a good time for him emotionally. But he's got a loving and supportive family who stood by him and I love the relationship he has now with Liam and Trey. The three of them are going to be a serious handful for Abby to corral. And that ending... *yells at television again and pouts*.
  9. Another Jared-light episode. Hopefully by next week he'll be back in full force because it just feels wrong not having him front and center during this crazy time for his family. Stella, you're cute but dumb. It's one thing to be dating Colton, because he seems to be the one decent member of his family, but it's another try to try get the families together to be nice to one another. Liam had good reason to try to get the dinner going in order to try to get the Davidsons to slip up about the race, but Stella seems genuinely invested in trying to make peace. Of course, it goes as well as could be expected. Geri is getting on my last nerve. I am still steamed at how she all but cut the Walkers out of her life in order to facilitate bonding with her birth family, seeming to forget how the Walkers have embraced her for the whole of her life and that the Davidsons have been stomping all over the Walkers from the instant they showed up. She just can't seem to grasp that the Davidsons are not good people, but... family. Of course, Gale and Denise are putting on their best faces around Geri, but she's not stupid and knows what the Davidsons have done to the Walkers. It's only when Gale said something sketchy that pertained directly to her that she starts to have questions. Nice sense of loyalty to people who genuinely love her. Gale can go find the nearest Saguaro cactus and sit on it without pants. What a nasty, vindictive, self-absorbed bitch. Getting the Walker ranch was all about screwing over the family that she felt screwed hers over. She's got zero interest in actually running the ranch and maintaining it. It's just about erasing any evidence that the Walkers were there. Destroying Abby's vegetable garden was not just petty, but stupid and Abby was right to call her out. Nothing will satisfy Gale and she's all about destroying and not building. Winning over Geri seems to be at least as much about taking something else away from the Walkers as it is getting her daughter back (and if Geri's suspicions bear out that Gale knew that Geri was alive... yikes). And Denise... you can go fuck yourself too. You tried to railroad Bonham on a murder charge and the Walkers should rightfully have sued her for malicious prosecution since 1) she was dead wrong and 2) had a personal interest in the case. It was so big of Denise to admit that she was wrong but still... you can join your mom on that cactus. Cassie's old partner certainly brought a huge mess of trouble into their lives and that was a hell of a firefight. Curious to see how this plays out. Hopefully the Davidsons will be wrapped up and sent packing soon. Although Colton and Dan can stay.
  10. The problem is that the network as a whole has become a complete cesspool. Once they were taken over by Discovery, they went from entertaining, educational programs and focuses like "Cable In The Classroom" to these "reality/entertainment" shows like the Duggers and Whitney because they're cheap to produce and popular with a certain segment of the viewing population. These "personal" stories focusing on the kind of people that middle-America might find endearing work until the darker aspects of their personal lives are revealed. Looking at the shows for the network, "Learning" is a priority long left in the past. As repulsive and obnoxious as Whitney is, she's not a child molester or a criminal the way so many of the other personalities that TLC has featured over the years.
  11. It was a genuine surprise that Denise was responsible. I would have pegged Gail as the first suspect and then Dan since Denise still seemed to have some kind of feelings for Cordell, but she has been proving to be very corrupt and self-serving. After trying to railroad Bonham, it's not that big a stretch to buy her as the mastermind to utterly destroy the walkers. Looking forward to seeing her taken down. Glad that Liam was able to shake their tree enough to get some real answers. And I totally bought Dan turning on his wife. Their marriage has been rocky and she was willing to turn suspicion on him to protect herself. He did a lot of shady things to try to win his wife's affections and at seeing how little he really meant to her... He's welcome at the bbq. The rescue story was enjoyable and it's good to see that they figured out what to do with Trey since he's just been hanging about looking decorative. I'm glad that he's moving on from Micky and that he and Cassie are becoming friends. And of course Miles being alive was no real surprise but I'm genuinely curious to find out just what's going on with him. Totally understandable why this was a Cordell-lite episode, but it gave everyone else a real chance to shine on their own. Next week is going to be very interesting... Hope that the Davidsons didn't throw away all their packing boxes.

LOL - all the ladies want Cordell! Denise still is carrying some kind of torch for him, Geri wants to mark her territory even though she broke up with him (stupid girl) and Twyla is getting all up on that while she can. Can't blame them as hot man is hot. Geri was really overstepping her bounds today. She might have been right that Cordell's children wouldn't be thrilled at the prospect of him being involved with Twyla, but let's be real here... she wasn't just acting out of concern for August and Stella. She broke up with Cordell in order to foster a closer relationship with her birth family and therefore had no right to interfere with Cordell's new relationship. August probably would never be turning handsprings over his father and Twyla being an item, but Geri's inference pushed Cordell into revealing it too quickly and too soon. Which is a shame because there was some interesting chemistry between Cordell an Twyla. Hope that she comes back soon. And last I remembered, the Walkers were at least part owners of the Side Step. So where does Geri get the right to remove Denise The Boar from the bar. Especially as it had been a gift from Emily to her husband. I get that she's trying to make nice with Denise, but she and her family had done nothing but make life hell for the Walkers since they strolled back into town. Where does Geri get off on wanting to make the Side Step "comfortable" for her sister. It's not her place and I really hope that she gets her eyes opened to just what kind of people the Davidsons really are. Glad that Cordell and Liam are finally putting their heads together and looking at what really happened during the race. The idea that Bonham would set his son up with shoddy tack just isn't at all believable. Here's hoping that something comes up from it because I'm fed up with seeing the Davidsons swanning about like their shit doesn't stink. It's past time to take them down a few pegs.
  13. For me, because I love SPN. I've watched it from Day One and am deeply invested. I was looking forward to seeing what possible spinoffs might happen and I'm allowed to express that I'm disappointed with TW and not happy with how the whole thing played out. I'm sure that there are many who only want to see positive responses, but those of us who aren't pleased should be allowed to express that as well.
  14. I think that you're giving us far too much credit. Most of us (myself included) just won't watch. The show will succeed or fail without us. Beyond being somewhat offended that Jensen has grabbed onto the first really viable spinoff opportunity to feature himself alone (and without his "brother") while apparently trying to fix what he feels was deficient in the show's storylines, I'm just not interested in the rehashing of the John and Mary story again. It's low hanging fruit that does little (if anything) to build on the world that the original series created. And I'm going to give Jared a lot of credit (more that he'll ever get here) that he's being very supportive of Jensen's efforts now that they've hashed out the dispute over Jared being blindsided and shut out. I'm not going to go into the ill-advised tweets from Jared again (as I've already said repeatedly that as upset as he might have been at the moment, it was the wrong way to handle things) but it doesn't excuse the idiocy on Jensen's part to not make sure that his "brother" was aware of his project, that for the time being Jared would not have a part to play and at least make sure that his costar and acting partner of the past 15 years wasn't completely shut out. It was an unforced error that ensure that the very extra SPN fandom would end up divided and he would lose a portion of the audience that he very much needs to hang out and at least give his show a chance to win them over. Whether of not Jared ever has a part to play in TW means nothing to me because I'm just not interested in the premise and I don't like how this all played out. And I will agree that I don't think that Jared wants anything to do with it at this stage. Jared has said many times that he was very open to revisiting the show at some point. He spoke before that he wanted to see an ending where Dean and Sam went out in a blaze of glory together, but that he was happy with the ending as it played out. There's no crime there. And I wouldn't blame Jensen for not being thrilled with the conclusion. But I do want to put it out there that Kripke originally intended "Swan Song" to be the series finale, which would have ended the show with Sam trapped in hell forever after sacrificing himself, while Dean got to go on to his apple pie life. That the only reason why the episode ended with Sam watching through the window was because the network had already renewed SPN for a sixth season. Would anyone have blamed Jared and his fans for being upset if the show's conclusion had played out like that? That Sam's reward for saving the world was an eternity of torture while Dean got to live on with bendy Linda? Or if afterwards, Jared launched the first spinoff without Jensen in order to "fix" what he felt was wrong about his character's conclusion? I really want to give both Jared and Jensen the benefit of the doubt and just as I can criticize Jared for his poor reaction to getting the news (even if I do agree that he felt that he was blindsided by it), I can also criticize Jensen for how he played this out and the total used teabag that TW looks like it's going to be.
  15. The problem I have with focusing on them at such a relatively young age and retconning John's understanding of the supernatural world. It's easy to like characters before they're broken and damaged. John was clearly a wonderful and kind man before Mary died and we know that losing her under the circumstances that he did turned him into the obsessive and bitter man that we met in season one. Maybe a more interesting premise, if the point was to understand his parents would have been for Dean/Jensen to explore the immediate years after Mary's death and see John slowly learn about what was happening in the world around him. That would make a lot more sense and fit in better with the canon. And I'm sorry, but I fail to see how TW will do anything to address the problems that Jensen's fans (and in their opinion, Jensen himself) had with the finale. It won't change anything about Dean's story. Maybe another option would have been to focus on Dean's namesake as he learns more about his family history and the uncle that he was named for. But then, that might deprive Jensen of the opportunity to do his Dean cosplay and his fans to act as his he and only he was SPN.
  16. Walker is hardly a "vanity vehicle". The one thing I will agree with is that it's doing well on the CW - well enough that they greenlit a spinoff where Jared will not be appearing. That to me speaks highly of how strong WI is and that Jared and the network believe that it will be able to stand on its own as a series and not need Jared to bridge the two. WI will focus on Walker's ancestor but it doesn't require anyone to watch Walker in order to understand and enjoy it. We won't have Jared's character researching his family history to try to understand the feud between his and their rivals. The shows are linked, but not so much that one can't just watch one and enjoy it. TW isn't like that. I don't see that it's going to have much appeal outside of the SPN audience, though the feel that I got from the trailer feels like they're trying to pull in a younger audience because it has more of a teen show feel. Spin offs are hard to get right and many of them pale badly in comparison to the show they were based on. The ones that fail, like "The Lone Gunmen" (X-Files) usually do because they cannot stand on their own while the ones that succeed do. And I won't be. I wanted to give it a chance because I do like Jensen and I love SPN but this looks awful. And Jared/Sam not only not being involved but openly shut out in order for Jensen to film his SPN fanfiction was going to set off a segment of the SPN fandom. Like it or not, Jared and Sam do have fans and they've generally been a lot more generous to Jensen and his projects than I've seen returned by many of Jensen's fans.
  17. That remains to be seen. It has some serious challenges in that it needs to find an audience with two groups. The first, the original SPN fans where many are openly rejecting it already. They're not enthusiastic about the concept and a lot of the comments on YouTube have been pretty savage (and no, they're not just from bitter JP fans the way it's been implied by some). Failing getting a majority of SPN fans to stick around, it needs to find an audience with those who might never have seen the original series and that, IMO, my be steeper hill to climb. TW needs to both being linked to the original series while also being able to stand on its own. Very simple... because SPN was what it was because of both Sam and Dean as characters and Jared and Jensen as actors. Jensen latching onto the legacy for himself did anger a lot of people, though I will argue that after seeing that dumpster fire of a trailer, most JP fans are thrilled that he's not going to have anything to do with it. Trust me... we're happy with how Walker is playing out and that Independence looks pretty fantastic (and doing what a spin off should - have a link to the primary series while still being original and able to tell its own story).
  18. John was always presented on the show as a complex and tragic character and the show has spelled out very heavily that the overwhelming majority of his bad actions were a result of unresolved trauma over Mary's death. Not that their marriage was perfect (as no marriage is) but he genuinely loved his wife and losing her so abruptly and violently destroyed him. He went from a loving family man to being obsessive, a control freak and forcing both his sons to become soldiers (both to help in avenging their mother and to protect them from what he now knew was out there). I was out of the country so I just caught the trailer and while I was very dubious and unenthusiastic about the premise, I wanted to give it a chance because I do love SPN so much. But holy smokes... this was terrible. If a trailer is supposed to give you the feel of a show and reel you in, this failed miserably. The production values are awful and cheap looking. Very little of the costuming looks like it belongs in that era, which had a very clear and distinct style. The effects and monsters looked terrible. I won't go into the cast and how the actress playing Mary doesn't look like she could fight her way out of a tea party let alone become the figure that we knew in the original series, but don't get me started on the ridiculous "meet cute" moment that ended up with badass hunter Mary punched in the face multiple times. I get that CM is a new production company that wouldn't have a huge budget for the show right off, but even given that it looks cheaply made. The original series didn't have a big budget for its first season and managed to create a compelling atmosphere and (for the most part) good storylines. Rather than SPN, it feels like the only that it's missing here is a talking dog. All the action is cartoony and over the top. And for all the BS that Jensen wasn't going to have much (if any) of a physical role (in order to tamp down the controversy of Jared being shut out of the show), seeing him on the screen did anger me a little bit. This isn't just him narrating the show as has been argued before we saw the trailer, but him having an active physical presence. My guess is that the network balked at not having the original characters there in some way to link the spinoff to the original (since the show itself can't manage that on it's own) and Jensen will have to have at least some kind of an on-screen presence. Which just rubs salt in the wounds of those who believe that the SPN legacy belongs to both him and Jared. Dean wasn't SPN on his own and making this all about him wanting to learn about the parents that he grew up knowing makes zero sense (especially given that Sam never knew his mother under her resurrection and never knew John prior to losing Mary). Sam wanting to know more about his parents would make more sense, but this is Jensen's vanity project so we can't have that. This is just a mess on every level.
  19. I hope not. However distasteful I find her daughter, I would never hope to see the suffering of someone else's parents. Having gone through the worst myself, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Instead, I'll happily mock Whitney's other pictured and how photoshopped they are to slim her face face. She's not fooling anyone.
  20. As someone who was in high school during the 80s (am dating myself and don't care), makeup was a very different game than it it today, Blending was barely a thing. And forget about color theory. I look at some old pictures of me (as a baby Goth before Goth became the subculture that it was) and it's kind of scary what I thought looked good. I was particularly fond of drawing my eyes with Egyptian-thick eyeliner (complete with the tail). And don't get me started about my hair. Waist length and permed so that it would be as big as possible. Bangs were coated with styling gel before being fried with a curling iron. And I avoided the plague of neon by living in black from head to toe. But it was a dark time for fashion.
  21. Speaking as someone who's studied agriculture and worked around horses a lot, land maintenance is a never-ending job. Weeds and toxic plants just need a little bit of neglect before they overrun a pasture. The first rule of maintaining grazing land for animals is to make sure that there was nothing in there that could harm them. I'm going to be generous an assume that the Davidsons just don't know how to run a ranch properly (otherwise Ben wouldn't have tried to convince Bonham to take on the job of running the place).
  22. I thought that it was pretty clear that the financial side of things was a major consideration. She did scan down to the cost of school and had mentioned that her college fund wouldn't cover it. With the family losing the ranch and having to start from the ground up, I could understand her questioning if going to a very good but very expensive school is the right thing at this point.
  23. I like them too but it's not one that I can see lasting too long. I really want Geri to get her head out of her rear end and see the Davidsons for who they are before she ruins what she has with Cordell in particular and the Walker family in general.
  24. A solid episode that covered a lot of bases. I'm enjoying the dynamic between Cassie and Cordell. She's a bit of a goof, especially compared with Micki, but it's nice to see her partnership developing with Cordell. As much as I liked Micki, the show seemed determined to show just how good a Ranger she was (and often at Cordell's expense) so seeing Cordell as the senior officer and treated as such is always something that makes me happy. I love Trey, but it seems like the show isn't quite sure what to do with him now that Micki is gone. He was brought in specifically to be her love interest and now that she's out of the picture, he really hasn't developed a storyline of his own. I hope that they can figure something out because I like him but for now, he just seems to be... there. For reasons. I guess. I'm disappointed that Geri seems to be drinking the Davidson koolaid and abandoning the family that had taken her in since she was a kid. I get that she wants to know her blood kin, but this deep dive into their embrace and giving up her other relationships is very sad. Especially since she seems to be walking away (at least for now) from her relationship with Cordell. Speaking of the Davidsons... color me surprised that they were quick to put their stamp of ownership on the gates (and man... that had to grate on Bonham's nerves) while letting the whole ranch go to pot. They have no idea about how to manage the land and livestock and while I give Bonham credit that he wants to preserve what his family built over the past century, part of me wanted him to laugh in Dan's face about working for him to manage the ranch. It would serve the Davidsons right to have everything fall apart because none of them know what they are doing, but that would mean the animals suffering as a result. And maybe Bonham can use his position to keep an eye on things and find a way to regain their property. Good to see Jared looking so well here, though I'm curious to see what they're going to do for the episodes where his recent injuries are going to affect filming. But he seriously needs to keep that suit because... *growls*.
  25. The dress isn't helping but it definitely looks like she gained weight. She's always been very round but looks positively apple-shaped now.
