  1. While I thought it was a brilliant choice to use that song for that scene, I told my husband that it ruined the song for me. Every time I hear it, I will now forever associate it with 1/6.
  2. Right?!? For a second there I thought I'd been pronouncing it wrong all along (not that it comes up a lot in conversation, but in my head when I'm reading) and then I was like "Come on, it's MTG, why are you second-guessing yourself?"
  3. I grew up in western MA, but I've lived in the midwest for 30 years. Whenever anyone hears that I'm from MA, they're all surprised because "You don't have an accent!".
  4. So much to address in this episode! First, the zero calorie bbq sauce - Walden Farms makes a whole line of zero cal sauces, condiments, dressings & syrups. They are disgusting. I like Guy's or G. Hughes sugar free bbq sauce (10 cals per serving) & Joseph's sugar free maple syrup. They are really tasty. Her ER visit. Based on her nonsensical ramblings in the car on the way to the hospital, I was thinking her O2 levels were too low, or she had taken too many pain pills. I know that when my father-in-law had low O2 levels, he would start to talk crazy (more so than his normal dementia-induced crazy ramblings). In hind sight, I think it was her addiction to pain pills. Although it was believable to met that she might need the ER, given what looked to be an ulcer I noticed on one leg, and the possible celllulitis on the other. I pointed those out to my husband at the beginning of the episode, and I'm surprised Dr. Now didn't address them at her only appt. Also with regard to the ER visit, how dare she use the ER services for a non-emergency! That's one of the reasons our healthcare costs are so high. Thankfully I have very good insurance, albeit with high premium costs. But it costs me $750 to set foot in the ER - so unless I'm having chest pains or there's a bone poking out from my skin, or I'm bleeding uncontrollably I'll be making an appt. with my doctor, or visiting a walk-in clinic. I SO wanted a final weigh in from her, even if it was from a local doctor, or her ER visit. It was clear that she'd lost weight, but I'd like to know how much. At least she took Lacey to the ice cream shop for a single serving, rather than buying a tub of ice cream like other poundicipants have done. It teaches Lacey that you can be healthy by having a once in a while treat, without going totally overboard on an otherwise unhealthy item. Someone upthread mentioned a tax on "unhealthy" foods. Hell no. We don't need anymore of a nanny state than we already have. And who's to decide the value of a healthy food? My family and I are LC/keto - we have improved our health and reversed medical conditions and lost weight by eating cheeseburgers without the buns, cheesy eggs, bacon, sausage and full fat products like cream and butter. Why should we be punished, when those foods have been beneficial to us? These are some more recent photos of Angela (Dec/Jan). She appears to be doing keto now - I only hope she doesn't bastardize the diet to do it "her way" and then complain that keto doesn't work if she gains or doesn't lose enough. https://realityblurb.com/2019/04/10/photos-see-my-600-lb-life-star-angela-gutierrez-weight-loss-photos-update/
  5. I've read a few articles about it. Some claim she lost 200 lbs after undergoing weight loss surgery, and others say she recently lost 200 lbs (making no mention of the surgery). My recollection of the show is that she only lost weight during forced hospitalizations, but was unable to maintain the losses after discharge. I thought she was one of those know it all patients that fired Dr Now so she could do it her way <eye roll>. I highly doubt she managed to get 200 lbs off on her own. More spin by delusional family members.
  6. She was probably a former heroin addict (as opposed to current addict) because her caretakers drew a line in the sand and wouldn't go so far as to buy the drugs for her. Feeding her thousands of extra, unnecessary calories a day was something they had no problem with, but providing her with heroin was a hard no. The People article I read said that her daughter claims her death was caused by illnesses she had, and was unrelated to her weight. Ya, right. The level of delusion in these families is mind-boggling. https://people.com/health/my-600-lb-life-lisa-flemming-dead/
  7. Aw, hell no!! http://people.com/health/my-600-lb-life-crowdsourcing-money-weight-loss-surgery-after-quitting-show
  8. My husband is 3 years older than Janine, and he has had weight problems his entire life. His doctor prescribed amphetamine pills when he was 7. My eyes about popped out of my head when he told me that early in our dating years - I thought for sure he was mistaken, but his family confirms it. Apparently it was common practice in the late 60s.
  9. Did you notice that when Tiffany was rage driving around the parking lot she said "MY refund money is all gone"? No, bitch, that was Billy's money that you all squandered. Tiffany is a flat-out bitch, addiction or not. She is flipping crazy, and needs help with anger issues in addition to addiction issues. She is so verbally and physically abusive. Allen seems like a sweet guy. I really feel compassion for him.
  10. Yup. I said the exact same thing to my husband. We have 4 cats and 5 litter boxes (3 of them are the auto cleaning type). I'm considerably overweight, and the amount of bending over necessary to scoop the boxes and empty the receptacle boxes leaves me out of breath. No way she was doing that. And her freezer was chock full of frozen food (much of it junk, I'm sure), so she's either using a delivery service or she has someone doing her grocery shopping. When she was in the Houston hospital for the infection, she mentioned that they'd given her a medical assistant to get the cat boarded and pick up her clothes. She had to have had someone like that in Seattle - I imagine that she's had medical issues requiring hospitalization there, too, and given that she has no family or friends, social services were likely involved at some point to make sure she's okay at home. I would have paid a pet sitter to come to the house rather than boarding the cat - poor thing is probably stressed enough from the move to Houston and the sudden disappearance of her owner. She didn't need the additional stress of being boarded. Two of my cats like to drink out of the toilet bowl and their claws have scraped a lot of the paint from the toilet seat in our main floor powder room, so there are large areas of black exposed on the seat. I immediately recognized the black areas on her toilet as wear marks rather than shit stains. I'm so used to the toilet seat here that I don't even notice it anymore. Now that I've really examined it, I realize it's time to replace the seat.
  11. Lol. My mother-in-law immigrated to the U.S. from Italy just after WWII ended and always spoke English with a strong accent. Her youngest grandchild is named Caitlin, and until the day my mil died, she called Caitlin Kathleen. But adding in the extra Italian syllable, so it came out Kath-a-leen (with the emphasis on the last syllable).
  12. A recurring thought that I had during this show is that Daddy isn't going to be around forever. Those 2 wastes of space are then going to be 100% dependent on we, the taxpayers. Ugh.
  13. I think you've got that backwards . . . He takes a massive dump and THEN they roll him over to clean him. At the beginning of the show I was skeeved out when he called Lisa into the room to tell her he'd just gone to the bathroom. I was shocked that 1) he asked for help AFTER the fact; and 2) the smell didn't give it away before he mentioned it. They probably have something along the lines of a diaper pail (at least I HOPE they do!!). My 93 yo father-in-law lives with us and last year he developed urinary and fecal incontinence so he has to wear Depends. We bought a diaper genie to deal with the inevitable stench. Works great. Now if only we could get him to change the depends and bathe more frequently. He's obstinate and surly on the best of days, and downright mean and nasty as his dementia becomes worse - getting him to bathe and maintain any type of proper hygiene is a daily struggle that is really taxing and stressful on my husband and me.
  14. Boom! We are a low carb household and our local Chinese place has a delicious dish called spicy shrimp and scallops. They are lightly dredged thru flour (we tell them to skip that step) and then they're flash cooked in the wok with spicy oil, garlic, red pepper flakes and asparagus. Perfect for us. They also offer a dish that are filet mignon medallions cooked with mushrooms and a brown gravy (we just scrape off most of the gravy). They are known for their egg rolls, so I order several and we unroll them and eat the filling. If we do takeout, I'll make fried cauliflower rice to serve alongside; if we dine in we tell them no rice. Some of the soups are also low carb friendly. It's never going to be perfect, but there are workarounds. There is a popular reddit thread about low carb acceptable Chinese food dishes, and one of the commenters is a guy whose parents own a Chinese restaurant. He says it's impossible to go 100% low carb compliant because all meats are marinated in a solution containing sugar before cooking. But it's better than chowing down on rice and sauces full of starch and sugar. It's just as annoying as the fact that IHOP adds pancake batter to their scrambled eggs to make them fluffy.
  15. I had it in my ear lobe, of all places. No open sores that I was aware of, and I'd had pierced ears as a kid but the holes had long closed up by that time. It was an angry red color and was so swollen that the lobe was stuck out at a 90 degree angle to my head. My god it was so painful I left work to go to the urgent care center for some relief. I was put on a megadose of a strong oral antibiotic and was warned that I needed to follow up with my GP for monitoring, in case I needed stronger iv a antibiotics. It never leaked fluid, and it didn't spread to any other body parts - the oral meds worked fine.
  16. IKR?!? In 2006 my dad had open heart surgery to replace his ruptured mitral valve and a few months later he developed amiodarone toxicity from his heart medication. It severely damaged his lungs to the point that he was in a medically induced coma for a few weeks, and was ventilator dependent for 3 months afterwards. He was eventually weaned off the vent, despite being told he would be on the vent for life. For the remainder of his life he had problems with pneumonia and edema. He had to weigh himself every single morning and if he gained more than 5 lbs in a day he would have to be hospitalized until the edema was gone. He was on a strict salt free diet - even low sodium products were forbidden. My mom had to make everything from scratch so as to avoid sodium. Four months before he died we took our last family vacation to Disney World. They were awesome taking care of my dad's specialized diet, the chefs would come out to speak with him re his dietary restrictions, even going so far as to grilling his chicken in a different restaurant's grill so as to avoid salt contamination. But James has a giant salt/MSG laden Chinese food meal mere hours after being discharged from the hospital for CHF!!! Some questions I have after viewing, that haven't been answered or addressed by the awesome posts here: 1. How could he not be under a doctor's care, given his many medical problems? He was catheterized, permanently. He had a severe case of cellulitis. He had an entire shelf full of prescription bottles in some of the scenes filmed in KY. 2. How can the catheter even be inserted, given that he can't spread his legs any further? In one of the gofundme pages linked upthread, there's a picture of him with the catheter snaking out from between his thighs. I'm surprised that the catheter doesn't get permanently closed off from the weight of the fat of his legs. 3. There is something severely wrong with the color of his urine. It's brown! I suspect it's due to dehydration or blood in the urine - either way a serious problem that wasn't explained. 4. Lisa had to have been sneaking food to him in the hospital. How could someone of that size lose barely 50 lbs while confined to a hospital, on a medically supervised 1200 calorie (and later 800 calorie) diet? Dr. Now always tells his patients that if they stick to the diet they should loose 100 lbs in a month. I realize that James is FAR less mobile than the other participants we normally see, but still.
  17. I am SO pissed that they discontinued the IMDB boards! I wasn't prolific poster over there, but I used the boards all the time for stuff like finding out if shows I like had been renewed or canceled, or to find the names of songs that played on certain shows (Shazam can be wonky at times).
  18. We'll have to agree to disagree on this issue. I live with 2 diabetics, who test 4 to 6 times a day. Neither the insulin dependent diabetic nor the diabetic controlling his diabetes thru diet alone in my house can maintain blood sugars under 120 by eating fruits or legumes. The last time my father-in-law ate an Apple, his blood sugar shot up to 253. So much for the "benefits" of fiber. I belong to the school of thought that diabetes is considered a progressive disease only because the ADA promotes the myth that diabetics can eat anything they want because they can pop a pill or shoot insulin to cover it. In the low carb high fat community we refer to the former spokesperson for the ADA, Hope "Carb Up and Shoot Up" Warshaw. She is reviled in the low carb diabetic world. It's like telling a person with a nut allergy it's okay to eat nuts in moderation so long as you keep the epi pen handy. Diabetics deserve the same blood sugar levels as non-diabetics, which is impossible to do by eating grains, legumes or sugars in any form.
  19. Most of these people have diabetes, or at the very least, insulin resistance. Those foods must be limited (in the case of fruit, eliminated) so as to keep blood sugars in a range that will not lead to amputations, blindness and dialysis. Recent studies have shown that even blood sugars in the low 100s, which is considered the high side of "normal" are actually high enough to start causing early diabetic complications. These people should definitely be cutting out the crappy processed and sugary foods, but replacing them with fruits is like telling a person to switch from unfiltered cigarettes to filtered because it's healthier. The whole "but the sugar from fruit is okay because of the fiber" is just an excuse - ask a diabetic to test their blood sugar after eating a piece of fruit - I guarantee their blood sugars are going to go way past 120. There's a reason why fruit is called nature's candy. And hummus is made from chick peas, which are also high in carbs. This is why Dr. Now tells them "no carbs". If you are metabolically healthy you may be able to get away with eating fruits and legumes on a regular basis, but these people are FAR from being metabolically healthy.
  20. When I first saw that trash can I was like, "What the what now???" I truly thought she was going to use the trash can to mix the meatloaf and I just about gagged at the thought of it. On the topic of too much processed and fast foods in the diet nowadays, did anyone see the study released this week about millenials being twice as likely to develop colon cancer in their 20s and 30s, and four times as likely to develop rectal cancer? There is no doubt in my mind it's because very few people actually cook meals using whole foods anymore. Everything comes from a box or fast food restaurant, and the effects of a few decades of shitty food choices is manifesting itself by creating diseases that would normally take 40 to 50 years to crop up. My grandma, who was born in 1910, was one of 12 children, and at least 4 or 5 of them developed colon cancer, but not until their late 60s or early 70s, and that was well before colon cancer screening was commonly available. Mind boggling that young adults are succumbing to this disease.
  21. Crushed up pork rinds are a very popular substitute for bread crumbs in low carb recipes. I've tried it a few times, but it's not for me - tho many people love subbing pork rinds for crumbs. I prefer using almond flour or coconut flour - a bit more carbs than pork rinds, but a better binder and better texture.
  22. Thank you! I even rewound and watched again, trying to figure that out. I made my husband watch, too, and never figured it out. The big truck disappeared, as did the trailer with the car. I was so focused on those discrepancies that I never really paid any attention to the actual journey drama. Also, how much gas did they spend for those 3 vehicles?? Even taking away the U-haul trailer and the car tow, they were each driving gas guzzlers.
  23. Another multi-cat owner here. Four cats, five boxes (3 automatic cleaning Litter Maids and 2 manual scoop boxes). For some reason a couple of my cats prefer the manual boxes, even though they may not be as clean as the auto boxes. I scoop the manuals at least twice a day. I have one cat that sits next to me when I'm scooping and the second I'm done he's dirtying it again. It's like he can't wait to just mess it up, lol.
  24. And as someone upthread mentioned, in the supersize episode it was revealed that the siblings had no idea Jessie had been doing anything at all for Erica, and they were so mad at her they threatened disowning Jessie.
  25. Spot on Elizabeth! You said it much more eloquently than I was able to do. Choice my ass . . .
