  1. I've read on twitter that kiss wasn't even scripted that way. That was just EBR deciding to mix it up and see if she could throw SA off lol.
  2. That is a very weird length of time for the show to run. So basically in Canada they've been cutting out just over a half an hour of the show. So dumb. Why show it at all if they're going to cut off 1/3 of the show. I guess the network is just as much of a hot mess as the show! Haha
  3. I know I'm over this show. The only reason I'm still watching is that my daughter still wants to watch so we watch it together. I guess the Maddie fans made up for quite a bit of the viewership and now that she's gone so are they. Also maybe some people aren't that interested in the mini's and watching Abby still out walking around while continuously getting away with pushing back her sentencing. I'm looking forward to December to when she'll actually have to pay the piper so to speak. Hopefully she doesn't get celebrity treatment in court. I have a question about the last two episodes. How many minutes do they run? I live in Canada and Lifetime Canada is cutting them off at the one hour mark to start the next show they air so I have missed the ending of the last two episodes. I know I'm not really missing that much but I was wondering how much I did actually miss lol. Is next weeks also going to be more than an hour on the tv schedules in the US? It would be nice if Lifetime Canada could get their act together and figure it out so that we could see it all!
  4. Disappointed with the results but not as disappointed if JT had won. Not surprised at all that Emma and Tate placed how they did unfortunately. I had a feeling that it would be between JT and Kida but thought that the cuteness factor would bring JT the win so glad I was wrong about that. I think that my waaaayyy too many years of being a dance mom (not like the ones on TV! Haha) and sitting through endless competitions resulted in my frustration that JT had made it this far. I have seen so many 10 year olds at competitions that have much better flexibility and technical skills than JT. Most of those kids know how to point their feet by this age if they have been dancing at a competitive level and their teachers and judges would not have been easy on those who don't. I just couldn't understand the praise and coddling that JT received other than it was producer driven. It was quite clear by the choreography he was given and praise he received that production wanted him to be one of the last ones standing. I am biased towards Tate because I have a personal connection with her but I felt pretty much all along that she wouldn't win. Knowing Tate's abilities like I do they boxed her in with the choreography. While she focuses now on her ballet and contemporary she hasn't always trained that way and still does dance in jazz and hip hop. In fact she's danced onstage with Justin Beiber doing hip hop. She's danced a in music video prior to SYTYCD. Her (and my daughter's) old studio required tap classes as well. Instead they gave her basically the same choreography week after week. I don't blame people who thought she was boring and only able to lift her leg up in the air. That's all they seemed to want her to do. I just know that she's capable of more than that so I found that frustrating. She has had so much talent shining through from a young age. She can sing, she actually has done choreography on her own for a couple of years now, she has done voice over work for a cartoon series. She has said in the past she'd love to be on broadway. She's a humble and sweet kid that has an amazing amount of drive for her age. She'll be fine in the future. This has given her a lot of exposure. The right kind of exposure for the dance world, not the dance moms kind. Because I know she'll do well anyways I'm happy for Kida as I suspect the money is more needed in his family than in Tate's. TL;DR I'm disappointed that Tate didn't place higher but glad it was Kida over JT.
  5. This!!! How a kid that needed to be reminded so many times to point his toes, or Dance 101 as we call it in my house, is beyond me! There are others that deserve to be in the top 4 before him but winning this show isn't about talent as much as it's a popularity contest. I agree if he wins it's on cute not skill. If it was skill it should be Tate or Kida. I have a gut feeling though that JT is going to take it and that's disappointing if it happens. However in the past a lot of the ones who didn't win have gone on to better things than the winners so I'll console myself with that if it happens!
  6. I agree with you, this show is a popularity contest, not about making the most technically talented kid the winner. If it was that then Tate would take it. I'm naturally rooting for Tate based on a more personal connection with her than the others and will be disappointed if she doesn't win but I'm pretty sure she won't. I think that the cuteness factor of JT is too hard to overcome. How a kid that had to be reminded so much to point his toes made it this far is beyond me though. Thought that was Dance 101 from a pretty young age. Seeing as I highly doubt Tate will win I'm rooting for Kida as I think he deserves it more than JT. However my guess for placing tonight will be Emma 4th, Tate 3rd, Kida 2nd and JT will take it. It could go between JT and Kida though. Hope I'm wrong, guess we'll soon find out!
  7. Tate is capable of choreographing by herself and has done so in the past, not sure about the others though. Tanja, Tate's mother, has choreographed some wonderful group and solo numbers and I do believe that skill has been passed on. Tate and my daughter have danced at the same studio prior to both girls moving to other studios. Improvisation was worked on there, as is in most studios, which would build on choreography skills as others have previously mentioned. My own daughter surprised me by choreographing a pointe solo (not her strongest genre either) for a school talent show at that age and it surpassed my expectations (don't tell her that lol). My daughter's number was close to 3 minutes long and these so called self-choreographed numbers were much shorter than that so it could quite be possible that they mostly did it on their own. I imagine the older kids have all had improve training at their studios. The younger ones not as much, JT is the one I had the most doubts about, to me it seemed that his number basically was just using a lot of the moves combined from some of his previous numbers. In my opinion Tate has been poorly showcased in this entire season. She has trained in all forms of dance, not just ballet or contemporary, although those are her strengths. I imagine she's not the only contestant that has done so though so I don't know why they didn't allow all the kids to diversify more in the show. To those interested in 2014 Tate performed at The Dance Awards a number she choreographed herself and sang the song to:
  8. I hope so too! Although it seems that they haven't really been showing as much of the more known ones from the competition circuit. I'm wondering if they're keeping them for more of a surprise for later. I guess if we don't see much of her now we can at least look forward to seeing her in the Top 10! (If the rumours I've heard are correct she's in the Top 10.)
  9. I've seen it happen occasionally at various dance studios. Depending on when the dancer's birthday falls in the year they may stay and dance another year. My youngest would be able to do that seeing as she was born late November. However when she graduates High School she'll be off to college and have moved on from her life of competitive dance. Some girls just aren't quite ready to leave that world yet and stay on the extra year or they are hoping to make it in the professional dance world and so stay on dancing another year for more training. I've seen studios that have girls compete who were actually now teaching other classes at their studio but they were still 18ish so it was all legal I guess. I've actually seen studios have girls or guys dancing that were even a bit older than 18 but the group average age was younger than that so there they were. Not sure how completely legal that was but since no one ever seems to ask to see birth certificates at any competition I've been at they get away with it. TL;DR Not the first studio to do that and not the last unfortunately.
  10. One can only hope. I can't see that this is major blockbuster material.
  11. Looks like Sia has plans for a movie with Maddie. She spoke of it at the Venice Film Festival. http://themuse.jezebel.com/dance-moms-star-maddie-ziegler-landed-her-first-film-ro-1729616771
  12. Exactly! TDA is so expensive when you take into account the cost of hotel & food for 10 nights in Vegas or NYC. Conventions like this are good for getting yourself noticed by the top choreographers so hopefully they'll remember you but they certainly aren't going to ask you where you placed at a competition when you're on an audition. Same with ballet really, intensives are great for building skills but exams really don't matter in the real world. In Canada, or at least where I'm from, the studios are big on Royal Academy of Dance. Everyone does their RAD exams but really for what? Other than making sure you have achieved at least the Intermediate level in order to teach RAD no one is going to ask you if you bothered to get past Advanced 1 on an audition. In ballet or commercial dance it's how you dance and the look they are after that will get you the job, not a medal or exam results.
  13. I don't think Abby had any seniors there, only one teen dancer from what I recall. I'm not sure if there was a top 20 placement. I wonder why there were no seniors there and only the one teen. Either they never qualified or just decided like ourselves and others I know just not to go. As a family dance takes up so much of ours lives during most of the year that we choose to do other things in the summer. My girls do well at dance but they are never going to be among the top 20 dancers at TDA as they have other interests as well and do not plan on pursuing it after high school so we think differently that way. The ones that I do know that went to TDA Vegas or NY are the ones that are more likely to keep dancing after graduation. I don't know if Abby has anyone at the teen and senior level who thinks like us or if that wouldn't be acceptable with her.
  14. Abby was "not happy" with Maddie's fourth place and the judging or so I've been told by someone who was there. Her daughter was dancing in another age group but saw Abby's reaction. No surprise there though.
