I really think the worst part of all this is the fan base might not ever forgive Fitz they may think this is to Dark to overcome

It may be too much for Fitz/FitzSimmons fans but as storytelling goes, it's kind of riveting. IDC has been great. If by the end of the series Fitz ends up truly evil (not cartoon Grant Ward evil), I'll be disappointed that Leo and Jemma didn't get a HEA but I won't be disappointed by the way the writers have evolved the characters.

  2. I don't think Fitz was instantly forgiven for what happened in the Framework - they went from that straight into the future insanity, with no time for them to really process.  Fitz actually had more time after the team disappeared for his mental state to become worse.  Since they've been back they've been focused on other crises.  As for Jemma, she's trying to make sense of it, not handwaving it but obviously a mental break makes it more complicated.  "In sickness and in health" and all that. She can't just walk away.

But I'm installing Vue next week in anticipation of seeing this show again. I've looked all over Sling's offerings and do not see TLC, so Vue it is.

I've had Vue since it launched nationally and like it but if you are only in it for TLC, you might want to try Philo instead. It's $16 a month.  (No sports, no news channels though.)

  4. Well, that was... dark.

It's weird but I kind of feel like that if they actually prevent the world from being ripped apart, Daisy might forgive Fitz more readily than we think. Because Quake is who she is and running from/denying that because she believes the "Destroyer of Worlds" thing is hurting her in a different way.  (Not that it justifies it - at all.)

For once, Deke didn't annoy me.  And I'm glad Jemma's got that sliver of hope now.

Back to our show, my money is still on Justin. Every "Yes Man" cracks at some point; this was his. My backup is Caroline, which makes me sad, because I'm one of the few that loved her & Ridge, & totally bought them as being crazy in love. Ugh, I wish misunderstanding night had never happened, but I'm betting Douglas doesn't get retconned now.

I was on the CaRidge ship myself but it wasn't misunderstanding night that ruined it for me exactly but rather, the acting choices that LG made there in the end, the baby voice being a major turn-off.  At that point it was just weird bordering on creepy.  But I still wish we'd get a Douglas retcon, so that Thomas would be clear of any entanglements with Caroline.  Any time they are even mentioned in the same sentence is a reminder of how all that started.

  6. Liz decides to represent her son’s favorite teacher after she senses the school fired him for illegitimate reasons. Lucca enlists the help of Elsbeth Tascioni when an unanticipated lawsuit hits close to home. Despite the recent chemical scare, the firm throws a party to celebrate their new offices.

That along with hate of Skye/Daisy and I guess now Deke has been a reoccurring feature of talk about this series.

Thanks for the link.  I guess I don't get away from PTV enough (though even I am aware of the Skye/Daisy hate). I've always liked Daisy and Coulson's father/daughter vibe, enough to balance out how annoying hacker Skye could be.

  8. I don't actually know what a SWW fandom is but if it's about Ward, then that's probably why.

Right now, it seems to me that the team is barely tolerating Deke. They are (quite pragmatically) using him for his ability to go out in public, for what he knows about the end of the world and because he inadvertently came through the monoliths because of them but otherwise he's treated like a nuisance, at best. However, I'll admit you're likely right - there's a good chance they will handwave what he's done once they find out he's related to FitzSimmons and skip the real redemption arc.

I don't think that slavery needs to become an issue that we're willing to overlook simply because the person who engages in it had a difficult life. It's the kind of mindset that lead to the SWW fandom making excuses for every horrible thing Ward did because he had an awful childhood.

I don't think you can compare Deke and Ward. I didn't like Ward and don't miss him. Deke might be redeemable, or not.  We'll see where the writing goes.

ok we might not ever find this information out but do you think Kasius May have done something to Deke's mom because Deke's Mom knew who Fitz and SImmons really were

I'm terrible at timelines. Do we know how long Kasius was in charge or when Deke's mom died?

    From the ABC press release:

Roseanne and Dan’s house becomes full again,
while Becky makes an important decision about her future.

    &

Roseanne and Dan’s grandson, Mark, is bullied at school,
while Becky brings Andrea home to meet the family.

    ----

    From the episode guide description:

Roseanne and Dan adjust to living in the same house with Darlene and her two kids when she loses her job; Darlene's son, Mark, is found with a pocket knife after he experiences bullying during the first day at his new school.

The only long-term man of color this show has ever had (without killing them off) is Mack - Trip and Andrew were killed off after getting bits of storyline, Joey and Robbie didn't get much before their vanishing acts (Radcliffe and Deke, for example, were given considerably more), so it would've been nice if this season had been different and veered in another direction with a long-term character. If you didn't have the character sell someone into slavery (because the show has never properly handled that, and at this point Deke is basically just a walking easter egg for FitzSimmons with no real purpose except to be woobified because he's the grandson of Fitz and Simmons), it would've been nice. As it stands, it's one of the problems with AoS, and if this is the last season, it'll be one of the flaws with the show as a whole.

AoS deserves some criticism on the diversity front - like most mainstream network shows.  But focusing on Deke selling someone into slavery doesn't take into consideration that all humans in that future were basically slaves, even if it looked like there were some like Deke who were flying under the radar. Evil Overlords tend to ignore that stuff - allowing a limited amount of prohibited activity because it works to their benefit.

It seems to me that Coulson and crew are treating Deke like a collaborator, more or less. There are always collaborators in any subjugated population - like African slaves who were also overseers or Jewish guards in concentration camps.  It's a complicated and sensitive subject that I don't feel up to making judgments about.  I'm sure Deke thought turning in Daisy so he could help the others was really the right thing to do.  Maybe we would too, if we were born into that environment.  I hope not but we didn't see many heroes in that future. We saw survivors, survivors who did ugly things or turned a blind eye to those who did.

And folks here think Steffy is made of teflon? So let's see, Thomas raped his fathers wife and now he is the most romantic nice guy ever? Caroline not only gets raped, but then the writers have her misunderstand the night, get pregnant, moon over her rapist, fake an illness and now she may have shot Bill so she can lose custody of her child to her rapist? Awesome! Destroy the victim of rape and redeem the rapist. Way to go show!

And the thing is, I think the actors playing Thomas and Sally have chemistry and they are adorable together, but good god!

I cannot stand Steffy or Hope, but I think this would be hilarious. Unfortunately, these actresses have no chemistry.

I don't disagree but with this show (or most soaps) you eventually get to a point where you have to go with the retcon or stop watching.  Granted, it was much easier to do with Caroline off-screen and with the fact that PF/CH had such amazing chemistry.  Not to mention Thomas was rehabbed quite a bit by his friendship with Sasha.  I think that's where I decided to give him a chance.  I've never forgotten - though I blame the writers and not the character now.

So, I actually do know someone from another fandom of mine with this disorder, and she has been adament that this is almost exclusively a disorder brought on by childhood trauma, and not for adults who had a few years of being around jackasses. Plus, I don't trust this show to do justice on this anyway.

And almost completely associated with sexual abuse, so I'd rather they didn't go there either.

  16. Hah.  I was just going to mention OLTL.  I personally dislike DID storylines but early on, OLTL was occasionally compelling.  Later on it just became a cheap gimmick connected to some sordid retcons and shoddy storytelling.

But is Liam that fragile?  Just because someone is fundamentally a good person doesn't mean they are weak. In fact, it's been so nice seeing Liam stand up for himself and draw some lines against $Bill and Steffy.  (Unfortunately, with Steffy he has to come to terms because of the baby.) It was nice while it lasted anyway.

I'd rather see Liam with an evil doppelganger/twin.  But that seems a little complicated for B&B.

  17. True, but IMO maybe not enough? The similarities with Red Dwarf (on paper) were kind of what caught my attention but Gary is no Lister. Maybe because Lister is pragmatic and grounded even in the most surreal surroundings.
