Masterchef (US) - General Discussion
Colorado David replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Masterchef (US)
I did not care for the 'keep up with Gordon' challenge. Cooking is hard enough because you need to pay attention to what you are doing, not trying to split attention tween eyeballing speedy GR and your own pans. It's like an algebra teacher solving an equation at the board at lightning speed and expecting students to solve it on their own just as quickly. Fast food i can see this concept working - elevated dishes, NO friggin way. That and why the urgency? GR has years behind him so has built up speed, no need for these learners to have to rush things, it just promotes screwing up the dishes.- 3.3k replies

Glorious. I can watch the Jimmy footage all day long and be so happy. oh and russ can just get eaten by a shark sooner than later. playing the social game but zero contribution to the overall team IMO. in fact, creating rivalries. i'd like a competition show that does not have to go down to that level.
-
Jimmy is definitely the twister/stirrer on this show. He bent Tara, she buys whatever BS he spews, and then she twists her knot of women. I dont see racial or sex motivations at work here, I see manipulators - and so far Jimmy is winning that title. Funny how Elliott leads yet skates under the radar? How is this happening. Leaders typically get called out for being bossy etc. Dunno what was up with CJ and doing the slack, unless that's just editing for the audience's drama sake. Garrett seems like an ok dude, I hope he goes far.

Joe is a permanent curmudgeon, which is so strange as his mother is so nice and polite. -
Ok this bugs me. There is no rule regarding the cultural breakdown of the people on the raft. This fear of being seen as a racist seems false to me - if I'm on the raft, I'm viewing you as a competitor with skills, NOT your culture, sex, orientation, even your beliefs. I would be polite to everyone and not backstab so as to not piss off everyone - there's not enough people to me to justify creating alliances and stir things up. Jimmy way to easily got considered to be kept out of fear of the rest being seen as racist??? PHONY producer shenanigans IMO. They are building a villain for the raft because everyone's getting along too well. BOO.

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars - General Discussion

also while i am no expert by no means, i can taste the freshness of a pizza sauce. but that is it. nothing ingredient wise tastes me wow anymore, its always the same spices and tomatoes in ratios. i have yet to find a pizza sauce that WOWS me over. fresh or no, spicy or no. anything better i have yet to find. -
boo on the chicken incident. this was staged. elliot is smart enough to know chickens on the raft wouldn't work at all (feeding them, chicken poop, drama when they have to be slaughtered) so i think they were coerced into having to bring those chickens on the raft. boo show runners. ah clashing of cultures, it does create great tv drama. that is why diplomats were created, to help reach understandings of different behaviors should not feel threatening to either side(s) even if certain behaviors seem that way. my case, i have a somewhat unfriendly weathered face (think bad guy in the movies type face), which i see as offputting to people I meet at times. you can read that in their face when they meet you. this i understand, so then it becomes MY task to put them at ease - again, this is part of understanding different cultures see things different ways. totally surprised tho, i thought russell would go before lashonna. and i'm surprised merissa's opinion carried as much weight as it did.

Basically Russell hijacked the vote and the others didn't speak up. NOW if they had had b*lls, I would've asked the host (forgot his name) "ok if russell volunteers to go, are we still able to nominate someone else and he can still go?" You know, put his smart ass in its place. His volunteering should NOT trump the others' choices.

who picked the chicken as a choice, was it sav or kendal? abs wrong choice - fried nuggets yes, not grilled breasts. and NO on slaw, slaw is an adult food. and why go the sweet potato fry route? do you see that at any fast food joint? NO -

oh that was such wonderful cringiness. timing all off, yelling instead of presenting, not able to fill the off timing with banter, and caroline running roughshod over everyone (seriously was she nominated as team leader, as she darn well acted the part.) ashley should have fleshed out the juggling act more. while i love the sway girls act, i wonder with the long hair if that didn't hit the desserts - which is mighty gross. -
so russell pulling out the tactical game....pretty smart but i dont know if it earned him any friend points.

I'm 99% sure I've heard Gordon call someone a "donut" before as an insult on Hell's Kitchen. -
tv reality, exactly. real life doesn't give you edits, which is why life has its ways of making us all humble...even dumb a billionaires.

Couldn't agree more. I wouldn't have been surprised to see them do a Macarena type choreographed number, or an Ice Ice Baby knockoff. -
Off the bat bickering, this is fun. DRAMA DRAMA. It could be editing but yeah seems like we have everyone offering up opinions and not so much listening for team building. I have trained for 16+ years at work, and you can so see when you have people who want to be on a team, and those who rock the boat. Fish killing guy? We can't say spear fishing guy or his name (CJ I think)? Fish killing guy strikes me as a bit disrespectful. I eat meat but I'd prefer not to be referred to as cow killer. (Not arguing, just pointing out something I noticed.)

i wonder if the prods created a villain out of khana, to encourage us to watch and despise them? kinda like survivor and evil russell, you tuned in to see what mischief he'd cause. because without khana was this a very watchable season? (no slam on the vegans, i am so happy they won. but they were't terribly exciting. i did like the overall look tho, that was fun and made me smile seeing them.) -

So we know his hobby (one of) is cooking. I wish we could see the hobbies of the other main characters too. -

exactly. i know it's california but man their prices seem exorbitant for the amount of food you get. this is not gourmet food, despite the truck owners spouting the contrary. for those prices i want a nice sit down in a reasonably nice dining area, and i expect an attentive wait staff (grumpy old eater here.)- 1.5k replies

I get the feeling the meals are comped for the customers even if we see them pay. Whoever makes a 'good' customer gets the tv time on camera. -

I would like a rule that you can't park in the same place more than once (no planting). Finding a spot is part of the challenge, esp like in Cali where i'm sure parking can be a total nightmare. AND I miss seeing them have to shop for their stuff - I know that isn't interesting for everybody, but I like the franticness (sp?) of it esp when they don't have a ton of funds to spend. And discussing price points, TF used to coach them on that. NOT so this season that I have seen. I also want more curve-ball ingredient challenges (you HAVE to include this ingredient in one or more of your dishes.) Seems like anymore it's just make what you are good at and see where it all falls. YAWN. I would like to see the easy vegans make a cookbook, some of their stuff (that maitaki mushroom burger) looks amazing.- 1.5k replies

S02.E07: Those Old Scientists
Colorado David replied to starri's topic in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
ok totally silly episode with the crossover, but i enjoyed it immensely. as long as its considered a one-off and not canon, i'm fine with these fun episodes occasionally.
