The Great Food Truck Race - General Discussion
Colorado David replied to a topic in The Great Food Truck Race
Very good point here. Is the intent on a food truck just money raking, or providing good food to compete against established restaurants? Are we trying to redefine the definition of a food truck, or just make buckage? I think some teams are one, some are the other. My 7-11 does killer at lunch time with construction and outside worker teams. They fill a much needed niche for those guys and the hard work they do (and god bless em for doing so.) They aren't providing great food at all, yet they are raking in the $$ I am completely sure. It seems to me we need to discern what is Tyler looking for - higher cuisine or dollar intake?? -

Food Flight was mostly invisible - you gotta have personality it seems to win at this race. Seoul Sausage being an exception - they won, but if I remember correctly they weren't that big on showing personality. Pleasant but nothing stand out. Dave from Mac n cheese is just obnoxiously outgoing at times. Contrast her to the leader of Mystikka Masala from last season - now she was outgoing but definitely not obnoxious about it. -
Agreed. You can see his age in his face now - he still has a great smile, but it's not the cocky-charmer smile he had in days past. His eyes also show age and a maturity, esp when he's emoting feeling sad or regretful. Glad this movie is doing so well, it seemed a big risk after so many years after the 1st one.

Have we seen future Pike in his robotic chair? I remember seeing him trapped behind a clear wall and appearing severely burned, but do we see him after that? Do we know he gets 'encased'? -
lol exactly. The beauty of TOS was the inside joke: if you wore the red shirt, you knew you were doomed either to do something incredibly dumb (redshirt in 'The Apple' running through the rock mine-field and blowing up), or be the victim of incredibly bad luck (2 redshirts on guard duty for 'Nomad', it did not appreciate being fired upon.) We don't have that inside joke yet for Orville yet I don't think - if there's a pattern I'm not finding it yet. Yeah they are making dumb mistakes, which happened in TOS as well. I think we are way less forgiving for Orville, because we expect better clever writing now.

I think the Lime Truck has a good reputation and works the social media really well. The prods knew they would win, they wanted to see if any of the other trucks could provide any sort of competition. Judging by Tyler's reaction, they did not. -

Agreed. yeah TIE THAT HAIR BACK or put it up in a rag. lol Amawele's: "why are we whispering?". exactly. I felt bad for the Saute Kingz, nothing was going their way. I wonder if Tyler visited all the trucks, but maybe the show only showed his visit to Mac n Cheese? Otherwise yeah definite foul if he only assisted them. Man those ESO pasta dishes looked KILLER. I'd so hit them up. Fresh pasta is worth the higher $$ in my appetite opinion. Do all the trucks have ice cream makers, or is this another one of those 'we brought our own equipment' situations??? -
Fun frantic movie from 2002, about meth users and a wacky situation one of them gets into. Great star studded cast: Jason Schwartzman, Mickey Rourke, John Leguizamo, Patrick Fugit, Mena Suvari, Brittany Murphy, Peter Stormare, Debbie Harry and others. If this film had more and deeper dialogue, I might mistake it for a Tarantino movie (for me it is that good.) Has anyone else seen it? Check it out!!!

paigow, you are a genius. didn't care much for this episode - depressing. the sentimentality of it having to be a kid is more than i can stomach. are we gonna get an episode where kittens must be sacrificed?? i thought we might get the doc's daughter dilemma resolved, but nah thats just a teaser. boo. yay uhura figuring things out. and boo pike, he gave an order using a first name? that seems contrary to ship protocol. -
weak episode. spider bug beings, ooooooh scary. as someone not creeped out by spiders, this came across as so lame. charlie can just be vaporized at any point - it would irk me if the show's producer just arbitrarily cast his/her girlfriend in a 'lead' role. an extra, fine, but no lines for you. more lamarr please. or bortus. yeah where was klyden and the kiddo?? worst episode thus far.

Agree on the buying food from someone walking around carrying it - who knows how many people have breathed on it when sniffing or looking at it?? Eh I don't mind the cheekiness of Girls Got Balls - its a food truck so I know I'm not getting haute cuisine, so I don't mind the sense of humor. -

Peppers are so subjective too - some people have iron tongues, some people like me are sensitive to even milder peppers. It's a bit too hit or miss trying to guess what Tyler would like or consider 'not spicy enough'. I like the Cuban food truck, I hope they do well. I live in SLC and have never seen the salsa truck, which surprised me. I too am interested in what the South Africa twin team puts forward in their dishes - I love trying new things. Hopefully they won't bicker with each other too much. I like the ESO team too - chef made his own pasta, which adds to the quality. And his bio says he's worked in michelin star restaurants, so even more bonus points. -
What a weird dynamic to have to contend with, to be in Homelander's shoes - he can pretty much do anything he wants, until Butcher finds whatever weapon. I would not have eaten Timothy, I'd have walked out. Carrying Timothy to safety, to put it in Homelander's smug ass face. It's like eating a pet.

I wonder if part of his Vulcan upbringing is being able to put up mental walls for certain memories, to protect himself? Maybe he's hidden Michael's existence in his vault.

the whole transporter concept sports an entire box of questions, re what can and can't you do. it becomes headache making, the same way going back in time dilemma does. so i think the writers don't delve into it much. and i don't blame them. -

I put it down to nerves, but Shayne it is pronounced Vietnamese, not Vietmanese. 😋 It's a fun batch of people this time, I like it. Willie, everybody luvs you man. I hope you do well. Tommy, my man you are such a fun goofball to watch, welcome. Glad Dara made it, I think she can really go places. Happy to see Bowen back, I think he'll be a serious contender as well. -
awwww Norm...we miss ya buddy. Music overload on this episode!!!! Most of the time I don't notice, but it was so intrusive here it actually grated on my nerves. Great during action, but I don't need it when ships are just flying around looking pretty (and man, they upped the detail big time - well done production team.) I thought the Charly plot a bit weak - she is the ONLY one good at this 4 dimensional geometric talent??? I would think a LOT of the engineers would be good at this. Maybe she's the best, but can't be the ONLY one. She's not a different race that is super-advanced in this field. (I guess one could pose she's a savant with her talent, if it comes down to that.) Why so much time spent on watching them remove plates on the side of the ship? I get it's a CGI fest, but still it seemed excessive IMO. The doctor did a great job, dramatic but not over the top. Riding right on the edge, but she pulled it off. Bravo. Isaac does some interesting acting with his hands. His fingers emote for him at certain times, which is a nice detail. (And interesting as watchers, if we don't have a face to look at, we start paying attention to posture, nods, hands, etc for emotional clues.) A good start! Keep em coming.

I don't think they've figured out what kind of character the new Chapel is yet - she's not comedic (tho I think she's had a couple of "funny" lines), she's not dramatic so far. Maybe she'll go down the Kes route and want to become more than just a nurse.

Masterchef Junior (US) - General Discussion

Okay, IMO this brings up a good thing - not all kids are the same. Some we see as 'good', some as 'bad'. We have the luxury of seeing them thru adult eyes, and adult expectations of behavior. We need to be careful not to apply our own experiences on them. Not all kids are taught the same things, expectations and behaviors. Different cultures have different rules - I'm thinking of eastern cultures which adhere more to teaching and learning over childhood enjoyment of entertainment. So...A'dan, while abrupt and direct, I agree in thinking he's not a bully, just used to being direct like he is. It would be interesting to see what he's like when he turns 20. I bet he's a completely different attitude. Also, not sad to see him gone. He wasn't a great cook. I don't really have a favorite to be honest. -
Lol great point. You made me wonder, howabout some battery powered backup medical instruments in case there is a power outage??? Can't cost them anything, I'm sure they'd be small and portable. Like the kind you take in an emergency kit for away missions??? HELLO???

'MARSCAPONE' always drives me insane. Do they also say Pahmarshan? Pasghetti? It is not a hard word to learn to say correctly. -
Hemmer is everyone's grumpy smart alecky uncle. Agreed. Or even new holidays, as we are in the future. One relating to alien races would be cool. That was the reason for my question, as I know things go loopy around black holes and things that are supermassive (cue the tune, fans.) And no more of those little 3.5" plastic cartridge things Spock used to use to record things. And no bee-hived yeoman (bummer) for the captain so far. I do like how friggin huge the bridge is - I wonder what the logic is for all that space? Just a luxury treatment because they can? I get the captain's room is huge, that makes sense - go up the chain, you get the nicer amenities. I wonder what an admiral's room looks like in this time. (And SO YES to the earlier person who wants an admiral Rowan Atkinson - tho not an admiral, IMO he could actually work as a scientist type, maybe a foil to Hemmer's personality.)

I will be happy with an Evelyn or Buddha win. Sarah seems very much like a Karen-type to me.
