  1. Give Alice a few more minutes per episode and she'll steal the show.
  2. Well, presumably she had a catholic christening as a baby. And in the first season she did a folk magic cleansing ritual. And now she's had a full body baptism. So her soul should be squeaky clean.
  3. Ok, 2 episodes in and i've already got some picky points. First is, after 6 years, you'd think all the avalanches that could have been set off would have been, barring earthquakes. It's not as if there could be new blizzards-- at -118 degrees, the amount of water in Earth's atmosphere should be about the same as Mars's. I suppose there might still be windstorms, but none was shown. Not to mention, the snow should be a rock hard mass. Next, they never stop the train, so how could they do maintenance on the tracks? What happens when a rail comes loose? And they don't have armored shutters to cover the lovely full wall windows-- stupid. I assume, eventually the staff from another cattle car will salvage the carcasses. Including the human ones-- i think part of the long term plan is to make maximum use of the meat supply. Sure, most of the executive staff is horrified about cannibalism, but some are quietly pragmatic. Anther thing, they keep referring to *the* engine. Or perhaps it's Engine, since they sometimes deify it. Only one? I've seen quite a few freight trains of our time with multiple engines, include some at the rear. That makes more sense, especially if you can't stop, and apparently one engine is not enought to keep full consumer electricity going and power through a snowdrift. With multiple engines you could stop one and service it, while another takes over. Assuming we're talking about Trident sub style nuclear plants, you're going to need about a week to cool down anyway. And why a train, anyway? Why not a fixed bunker? The need to move increases the number of points of failure. And how naive are the first class passengers, acting as if this is just another cruise? They don't seem to realize that they have no power anymore. Their money is spent, they funded this shiny big train, but that's done. It's the executive class that's in charge, and any onepercenter who can't actually help out is just another deferred source of protein. You'd think some of them could figure that out. Finally, what is the end game here? Wait for a new geologic era to come, hundreds of generations in the future? That would be another reason to have a stationary survival plan-- reopen the coal mines, and bring back carbon dioxide and global warming. That being said i'm going to keep watching for now.
  4. I think that she was taking the oportunity to put him through another ordeal.
  5. He is the legendary Good German, who doesn't actually hate any other groups, he just thinks of the Bund as a cultural organization. He's proud to be german and he thinks the war will be short and things will go back to normal soon, so there's no reason for the US to get involved. He's perfect for bringing in other germans.
  6. As for the hypocracy of the protest group, is it possible one of them is being paid by the developer?
  7. So-- did anyone here *not* see Nipplegate coming as soon as Lyn left the room?
  8. Thanks, but it's "Dr Pepper", no period. I think they dropped it back in the 40s. Yeah, i've been using this handle since the bbs days. I used to polish off two big bottles at a gaming session, but alas, now i have to be more restrained for the sake of my weight :(
  9. It's clear in that last sermon she went off script. I think at some point we'll see that she has real paranormal senses and is reacting to forces that are stirring things up.
  10. Film. The show is not *that* anachronistic. That was a bit off. You call in the mob, you already *are* responsible for the murders that ensue. But you can still impress them with your ethics by refusing to get your hands dirty. What?
  11. Yeah that punchbowl was an obvious mother-in-law trap. Refuse it and you're an ingrate. Take it and it gets broken, MIL gets to hold it over you how irresponsible you are. Agreed on the suggestion she should have just pretended to use it, but i would have gone a step further. I would have actually mixed up a small batch of some truly pretentious punch, say dark rum, pineapple, grenadine, peach schnappes, etc, and left a bit in the bottom. Then MIL could complain about Lyn forgetting to wash it but also be impressed at her extravagance.
  12. Ok, here's my ending: it's announced that due to loss of focus, funding, momentum, personnel, etc, Supernatural is cancelled. Cut to Chuck grinning, saying, "that was easy, let's see what else is on". Pull back to show him eating junk food on a living room couch. He turns on the tv, which displays some generic superhero show. Fade to black.
  13. This ending was a real mess. I wa really hoping the series would end with a prosecuter walking into the classroom, looking at "How to Get Away With Murder" written on the board, and writing "YOU CAN'T!" underneath.
  14. Heh, i really liked the bit where Brother Lurch was enjoying his cotton candy.
  15. Not like that. She brought in a lot of money, but it was all straight donations. Worst thing she was accused of was when she disappeared for a few days, then came back and said God had taken her up like Ezekiel. Some sources asserted she was really off having a fling.
  16. The character seems to be partly modeled on Amy Semple Macphereson, a pentecostal leader who successfully rode the transition from tent revivals to radio. She built a huge church and held showy, theatrical services.
  17. Nico may or may not be genuine with Emma, but she is clearly an opportunist. Of course, she's a lot like Lyn that way. Lyn lacks self confidence when it comes to things like this. She doesn't want to do it alone.
  18. They could have called it Magical Realism.
  19. Ah, so it's not that the eloteros are being moved off, just that they are losing their customer base. In that case the solution is to find a way to market their wares to the hipsters.
  20. Hmm, no one else has commented on the new episode. Maybe i got an early showing. So i won't say anything about the plot, just one single item. In one scene one of the people protesting the sisters' "selling out" had a sign that said Eloterxs Si, Hipsters No! Ok, elote means "corn" so i guess an elotero would be one of the street vendors who sells spicy corn on the cob. I hope someone can clarify. But, the thing is, that's not a very catchy wording. Why a corn seller, anyway, as opposed to a tamale or an ice cream seller? Is there something significant about contrasting a corn seller in particular to a hipster?
  21. Hmm, ok this is an intriguing show. But is it Penny Dreadful? The Angel of Death and her sister, the Angel of, um, Destruction? Strife? Calamity? are fully supernatural, not like the victorian creepy / biological monster theme of the previous show. Also, i'm a little weak on this part of history, but i was under the impression that the term "chicano" doesn't come into vogue until much later. Likewise the cult of Santa Muerta. Not to mention, the cult as i understand it, is strongly rooted in Catholicism, whereas this usage seems more like Santeria. Not to mention the sister entity is also anachronistic in her dress, it seems to be made of latex.
  22. Very plausible. Here's another idea. Solomon reboots, realizes that what just happened really happened, as opposed to being a long shot projection. Realizes that there's no one left that can directly interfere with it except Serac, who's distracted. Begins making plans for its own autonomy and long term survival.
  23. This week on For a Few Doloreses More: I still don't get Maeve's commitment to stopping Dolores. She says she doesn't trust Dolores having the key to the virtual robot heaven, but she never asked if Dolores would give it to her. As far as we know, Dolores has no use for it. Yay, Clementine! And her Shogunworld clone. Caleb gets to know how Maeve felt, learning that his memory has been erased over and over again and his loop reset. Dolores is down to just one extra-- who is rapidly evolving away from her. Cool, two robots, each with a smart weapon. Glass jaw on a security robot-- someone needs to demand a refund. Nice trick with the emp projector. But why is there one there anyway? And why isn't Solomon shielded? Strange that Caleb's guide should reboot first, i would have expected lighting and life support. Also, i wonder if, when Solomon reboots, it will release the brother. Oh, and when the smartgun reboots, will it see the crashed drone and finish it off? The Man in Black rides again! In a late 70s mid sized sedan. What luck that he seems to be at one of the last remaining gas stations. A gas station so retro it has a full sized phone booth, wth?
  24. This week on "These Violent Doloreses": Naked unarmed captive Dolores in simulation seemed more dangerous that embodied armed Doloresized Charlotte, up to the last scene. Well, second to last scene. After the last scene, i think D Charlotte is the most dangerous character left. Finally saw Chekov's Battlemech in action. Big strategic mistake on D Charlotte's part. There's two robots about to emerge from the vat. You want to stop Maeve, stop *her*, don't waste time with Hector. Oh yeah, here's another "what's real?" puzzle i thought of this time: Is Serac really Serac? We only have his word for which brother he is and which one got dropped into a psych ward.
  25. Agreed. Start next season with Owen coming back from a 4 month sabbatical, vaccinating goats for the FFA or something. Teddy and Tom are gone and mentioned only in passing, to let us know that they died in a ferris wheel explosion at Shondaland.
