I think once Jordan has her own children, she will understand Mina better. Shawn seems a little guarded with Aliyah. I hope he loosens up a bit. He's kind of acting like a disciplinarian. Contrary, Morgan seems to have been playing a parental role with her dad. Who clearly needs guidance, and now he doesn't need her as much anymore. That is probably a little hard to deal with.

I'm watching Season 5 where they are in Chicago. Great fun season. Sort of takes me back to more innocent times. Padma is so young and shy, Tom is exactly the same (he makes the show) and Anthony Bourdain is a guest judge and no one really is that impressed with him as a judge-- he didn't have the same respect as he did in his later career. All said, Richard Blaise made a dish and SERVED it with the plastic wrap on, so when it was removed, they could smell the steam. And Tom said that everyone should know how to make a souffle. And they grilled the "losing" group hard at judges table, and THEN made their decision. The chefs were more green-- now they have elite chefs that have a different level of skill and confidence and experience. But mostly, I think having all the money prizes means they need sponsors, which means a lot of time in the show is spent on highlighting their sponsors' product/service. In the early seasons, there were no tangible or money prizes.

S14.E16: Sutton on Trial at Sea

OMG. There is yet another episode? What can they possible keep talking about? I'm ready for this season to be over. -
I know! Now that they don't show the chef's outside the show, commiserating, partying, or gossiping, they should have more time. I think this episode; they did a lot of the judges table there at the dining table. It might be a different style with Kristin-- Padma always took the conversations after dinner to the judges table, where Kristin talks about it as soon as they are done eating.

He's perfect. No matter where he is from or where he lives. Massimo calls himself "Maximum" so I call him Maximo. hehe. With this challenge, it was really about how to use the "right" amount of maple syrup, so you taste it, but it's not cloying.
-
That brunch meal was just way way way too much sweet. There needed to be some fruit or something light-- it was just sugar, on fat, on carbs. The tartars would have been a good way to include some greens. I know it's brunch, but a nice salad with maple-mustard dressing would have been a good relief. Maybe some granola made with maple syrup and a yogurt? I don't know. I'm too basic. I'm weirdly in love with both Maximo and Anya. Where I think Maximo would break my heart with love crumbles, Anya would be a solid partner. I'm a married heterosexual BTW.

S14.E16: Sutton on Trial at Sea

The amount of time they spend getting ready is crazy to me. I see it with Boz, because she has A LOT going on, but I sort of appreciated Kathy's low-key look at dinner. I also caught that when she said, "Rome wasn't conquered in a day" Boz made sure to correct her, with "You are, right Rome wasn't built in a day." I thought Kathy looked strangely at her after that, but I could be wrong. It was a pro move on Boz's part to not directly correct her, but she definitely caught on (Kathy). There seems to be a disconnect between Kyle and Kathy. It's like they are both there, in the same room, but not really sharing much or talking much. I don't think they are that close, or Kyle is just really careful what she says around her. I've always thought Garcelle was mean and judgmental, but I didn't get how Sutton didn't have her back-- Sutton told her already that she thought they should drop the Morgan talk, and has nodded when Garcelle has complained about Kyle not talking about Morgan, but why she is so curious is beyond me (aside from the obvious storyline reason). No one else seems to care, or respects Kyle's privacy, and Garcelle is determined to bring it up. Maybe she thought it was an opportunity to show Sutton's alliance, but Sutton clearly isn't concerned or cares about Morgan and Kyle. IMO, Garcelle is getting into single white female controlling with Sutton, being upset with who she is friends with, and pointing out why Kyle is not her friend. She comes off as needy, controlling, insecure, and fake. Sutton seems like someone who needs A LOT of attention from her friends, kind of like Shannon Beador, and a LOT of loyalty. Kyle will never be that friend, but Garcelle IMO, will always be around Sutton, without a falling out, because she is happy to be attached at her hip, listen to all her problems, be sympathetic, and basically, make it all about Sutton. I've never thought Garcelle was a genuine person though. She hides too much, and is too quick to judge. She's always composed and deliberate in her speech, but her "Wows!" and fake sympathy "therapist" voice when she talks with Sutton when she is upset just seems like acting to me. -
When they all went back after judges table and started toasting Bailey, I knew she was gone. They were giving her her send-off. Having to buy sabotage ingredients for the other team actually seemed pretty fun-- they were having a good time with it. They had to find some way to make a segment for that credit card that is sponsoring them. I would have got stuff they couldn't pick off of-- like pizza or lasagna which is actually a bunch of different ingredients. I would have picked stuff with one strong flavor-- like fish sauce, anchovies, maybe canned smoked oysters (which Tom hates). Tripe would have been amazing, but it's expensive. Yes, I just read that Top Chef, where they used to use audition tapes, now really relies on word-of-mouth recommendations from previous contestants and other chefs they know and their own recruiting from meeting chefs at different events. There is another chef on there that works with a past Top Chef contestant this season.

Back when I was in college and before streaming was a thing, I would watch my shows at the gym-- lots of TVs and they all had cable. -
90 Day Fiance: The Last Resort

They are cognitive behavioral therapists, not psychodynamic. The psychodynamic therapists build off of Freud and think issues are from childhood. CBT therapists focus on present thoughts and behaviors and changing them. CBT is evidence based so therapists can bill insurance. Psychodynamic therapists just rip people off and mess them up more (IMO). I went to school for clinical psychology so had to learn all the different types of therapy orientations. -

S14.E15: Trouble in Paradise

You know, it's actually really true. It's society. I have friends who are gorgeous, and my husband and his friends think they are hideous because they are a little bigger. Men don't care about the "pretty face" thing, which is weird. That's all I notice on people. Who cares what they weigh. I am drawn to expressive eyes and a happy laugh. I think Dorit is well put-together. She's not gorgeous, but she does a good job with her makeup and hair to create the illusion of being pretty. -

Dorit has changed. When she first started, her fashion was "eh" and she wore kind of dumb stuff. In the last couple of years she has become consumed with her outfit. Her first season, she asked Boy George if her outfit looked nice. Now, she is hyper focused. I think she is trying to find an identity. Especially after PK set her up to be robbed at gunpoint for insurance money. Trends change over time, and I think the yoga Pilates body is in right now, so that might be her thing. She's never really seemed that interested in food or talked about it. Kyle has expressed insecurity with her weight. Rinna was very obviously careful about what she ate and I think had a "good food bad food" list in her head. When you are single, the thinner you are, the more dates you get. Your face can be whack. White men value and romanticize thinness with goodness, self-restraint, and "taking care" your body. It's just the way it is. Maybe Dorit is trying to get back on the market. Unfortunately, men don't realize the thinnest women are probably the least healthy. It's just the era we live in. It's not real. That said, I think it's easy for Dorit to not eat much, especially with "healthy weight" PK being absent and thus not being around food all the time. That man likes to eat and drink. I bet she's stressed to the max. I do not believe for a minute PK is sober. He was the biggest asshole ever in the last episode and his face was red and his eyes were glossy. And he was kind of mean. Maybe he is doing coke. Coke can make you really internal and you just ride that high and don't care about anyone else. -
No one really cares about Alec Baldwin. He hasn't been a big star for decades and no one really wants to watch an older man deal with a bunch of kids and a wife that talks like a baby. It's clearly a money grab, likely to pay for all their attorneys. The only thing I liked about the show was his wife's bathroom. Otherwise, it's like watching my dad wondering his house complaining about everything. I like Mina. She has oodles of personality and is fun. I think she really loves Mark and if she only cared about money she would have gone for a guy with money. She chose a guy that had a cool factor (a plane!) and loved her children. Makes sense to me. Mark seems like a nice person, and Mina also seems very fun and sweet. One interaction with Jordan and I would have peaced out.

Now I see why Shekinah is already preparing for Sarper to live with her friends. I don't even think she lives in her apartment. She basically doesn't have a home-- she lives in her office. Stevie kind of looks like Miranda Lambert to me. She is very pretty. Mina is a mom with a young child. She's going to be extremely protective of her family. She wants her daughter to have a family and be with her mom and dad and is going to fight for it. Moms are fiercely protective of their families. How can Shawn's kids not know about Aliayah? He was already on the show and it already aired. They definitely know. He might not have talked to them, but they know. I don't think he has a good relationship with his kids. Even his mom (grandma) doesn't seem to like them that much.

It looked gross-- BUT the lack of salt and flavor in hospital food is why I said that. Mimi said she was going to really focus on flavor.
-
The producers are just trying to keep things moving and not spend too much money. They don't care at all about the challenges. They have a different group of people that project manage that.
-
Mimi said she was late tending to the pork because of the potatoes. Which were awful (and looked terrible on the plate). Maybe trying to doctor them up she made them worse? She said as long as they tasted good it would be okay. They looked dreadful, and I would never have thought they were mashed potatoes by looking at them. That said, I'd be thrilled to be served that dish in the hospital.

YES! I was like, how to describe her scatter. It was kind of like Demi Moore in "The Substance" when she becomes a monster and is scurrying about frenetically all hunched over like a character from Lord of the Rings or something. Is she super tall? It's so distinctive her gait. Cheat sheet: Each chef revealed a selection of six ingredients that represent their respective regions: West: Pacific salmon, salt spring island lamb, red fire wheat, foraged mushrooms, hazelnuts, plums Prairies: Ribeye, walleye, red lentils, sour cherries, tomatoes, cold pressed canola oil Central: Rainbow trout, peaches, corn, ice wine, pea shoots, pork Atlantic: Cod, dulse seaweed, potatoes, snow crab, blueberries, screech rum North: Beets, carrots, crowberries, turbot, arctic char, oats I don't know what a lot of these ingredients are. But I love meat with fruit. Turkey and cranberries are my favorite ever. I don't know about fish with fruit though. I think the West, with the salmon and mushrooms would be most delicious for me. I'm surprised no one made a desert with the fruits.

Bailey bragging about working with and learning "everything" from Top Chef Texas Season 9 Sarah, who was the meanest bully ever, was borderline racist to Beverly Kim because she only cooked "Asian" and teamed up with the other bully to make Beverly feel as unwanted as possible, I knew everything I needed to know about Bailey. And she did exactly what Sarah would have done, leaving out the person from a different culture and acting like they didn't exist (Ana). Her food wasn't very well liked and I think she will make more mistakes because her ego is too big and she isn't aware of what she is good at yet. I love how Anya is so happy about being from Russia and loves cooking cabbage. I don't think I realized that cabbage was THAT big of deal in Russia (I thought that was Ireland), but now I know! Paula (from Ecuador, in KY) is very lucky she didn't go home as well with her really gross lamb chops. She wasn't freaking out that much when they were all different temperatures, so I wonder if she might be too chill for this show, where you need to panic in order to get the energy to pivot to plan B or C or D. She was more, "They aren't cooked evenly. Oh well."

S14.E15: Trouble in Paradise

I think so to. Remember when she took her whole family (sans Mauricio) to get Portia's ears pierced? It was like a whole thing. Kyle was so stressed out. In the earlier seasons, Kyle was pretty much in every scene. It was her and LVP. That was a fun dynamic while it lasted. Why did Kyle stop drinking? Did she ever say? Dorit has an interrupting problem. To be kind. At Ericka's housewarming, Ericka was explaining how she felt about getting put in the hot seat when her shit blew up, and Dorit jumped right in. The look on Ericka's face was anger/annoyance, but very obvious. Dorit really doesn't nail it with social interactions. It's almost a little weird that she hasn't figured it out by now. I don't think Dorit and PK's "break" is fake. As long as Dorit keeps begging PK to take her back, PK will happily hang out in his tiny apartment and throw some bones here and there. Who knows if they will actually file or not. Of all the shows, I have to say this city has the best kids. Kyle's daughters are lovely. Dorit's kids are so sweet and cute. Garcelle's boys are pretty awesome as well. Of course, Boz's daughter probably is the most amazing kid ever to appear on this franchise. They are all respectful and kind.- 151 replies

Definitely. I thought it was kind of matronly and too old for Kyle. She looked like she was going to church. -

That's not what I think, that's what I see her doing. I don't see it as "needy" per sey. She seems very anxious attached to Sutton. More like insecure. Being independent in your own life doesn't mean you have a perfect social life. https://neurolaunch.com/anxious-attachment-with-friends/#:~:text=Anxious attachment is a relational style characterized by,relationships%2C it’s equally prevalent and impactful in friendships. Not going to fall on sword defending my observations. And totally happy to entertain other interpretations. :) -

I was wondering the same thing. The friendship between Sutton and Garcelle doesn't seem balanced. Garcelle just is glommed onto to Sutton, not letting her out of her sight and has commented many times on Sutton wanting to be friends with Kyle so bad. Sutton would drop Garcelle in a heartbeat and Garcelle knows it. But it seems like Garcelle is right there making sure that doesn't happen.
