  1. Watching her video she screams either early boot because she's older/annoying, or is kept around for a vote in an alliance despite her being older/annoying. I'm going with early boot.
  2. I feel like most of the focus for this upcoming season has been on the returning players but here's a video asking some the cast if they'd rather be a legend and not win-or win and have no one remember them/get no respect for winning. No surprise that almost everyone said they'd rather be a legend and be invited back (in some cases multiple times, and then they'll win). Dan "Wardog" already considers himself a legend and wants to win; Aurora says she doesn't think you can win and get no respect. No surprise the returning players said they'd rather win and get no respect.
  3. He lost me at calling Cochran a strategist. However, as a fellow cat lover, I gotta like the guy a little bit for saving that cat's life.
  4. I didn't know she was on Jeff's radar. Reason enough not to like her!
  5. From some comments on her twitter, I'm not sure she takes criticism well. In which case, if people hate her this season that might be hard for her to deal with. Sounds like she had a tough life. I found her video and other interviews kind of annoying, but there's something about her that also makes me think she might be fun. Small side note, but reading these people's pet peeves and I wonder how they expect to make it 39 days in close quarters with people that may do the very things they hate out of habit.
  6. They are (what are the odds). So it begs the question, will she be her own woman and play her own game and manipulate the men or just follow Kelley around star struck?
  7. Based on his comment about Keith Nale, I wonder if he will be a friend or foe to good old Joe. I wonder if they are trying to make the newbies look bad in their bios compared to the returning players. If I was going solely on those I'd have a hard time getting into this cast. Not digging this guy either.
  8. Shows how well I remember MvsGX. I thought David was on the millennials tribe, and that he went out way earlier than he did. That said, he was one of the few casting bright spots in an otherwise meh season. Aside from Michaela, whose already returned, he was really the only other one I wanted to see back.
  9. Well, he's got 4 to pick from this season. Also, past history would tell us that returning players aren't always early boots in seasons like this. And is he saying his pet peeve is himself because he's a sore loser? Again, not sure how that will go over if his tribe is a Ulong or Matsing. Not digging this guy so far.
  10. Same. I actually found her bio annoying, but I did like her video. So we'll see. She seems to have a good grasp on strategy, but again, we'll see. Too many people talk big before the season starts and then just play a goat in the first alliance that will have them.
  11. I loved Aubry her first season (partly because Debbie, Jason, and Scot hated her), and I still say she should have won over Michele. In GC she was kind of a letdown and was way more in the background, getting a quiet edit. That said, I never expected her to be the type to play 3 times. I am excited to see her back, though I don't know what her chances are. Since she doesn't really come off as threatening and isn't a big challenge beast that might work for her to get far.
  12. I don't like him for the nickname alone. I hate nicknames on this show, especially self imposed ones. Why even tell us his first name, since this is what he will no doubt have Probst call him all season. Kudos to him though for going back pre HvV to name former Survivor contestants.
  13. Here's Jeff talking more about what Extinction Island is-basically Outcast Tribe meets Exile Island. Funny thing is, the official title of S34 was Survivor: Game Changers-Mamanuca Islands. Maybe if they hadn't added that last part on there we could have gotten through one season themeless. But yeah, this is why I am not a fan of them permanently staying in Fiji, because it means endless stupid themes and twists and returning players of some variety being brought in. And these themes aren't even that original. I do realize that they probably wouldn't necessarily drop themes entirelyX even if they went elsewhere, but at least there's a chance they would do it or could if they wanted to. So is this the first cast Lynn didn’t have a part of? Or does that start S39?
  14. I wonder if Jeff is going to allude to something happening in the game. This is where my Survivor nerdom would kick in, but if I were a newbie this season, and there wasn't a RI or some other twist to get the returning players back into the game, I'd think something was up. Because aside from the two FvsF seasons and Philippines, there hasn't been a season where it was a small mix of vets and the rest returning players where they didn't have RI. Even BvsW had redemption island, though I think that was for dramatic effect, too. And I don't think they cared about the returning players enough in Philippines if they got voted out early. But with Joe, Aubry, Kelley, and David, 4 well known popular players, and they just get voted off? Yeah, I'd think something was up.
  15. From what I heard Probst say in that Youtube video I posted, they didn’t know about the IOE until they were voted off-at which point they were given the option to either be voted off or go to IOE to return. None of the players still in the game will know until the voted off players return to compete to come back into the game.
  16. If they keep the same filming schedule, S39 should film in March-May, S40 May/June-July. Of course, there’s a ton of speculation that S40 will be some full returning player season. Former castaways are already on SM telling anyone who will listen to @ Jeff Probst and say they want them back. If they want to bring returning players back I wish they’d just do another fan voted season. But they’ve done BBB twice, Worlds Apart, DvG, and HHH could al be considered similar themes, MvsGX doesn’t seem like the type of theme to repeat. They could do another BvsW season. From what I remember reading, this whole theme was an idea they had for S30, without the returning players. I guess they could have just used it without returning players, but it seems like an attempt to keep them in. I also don’t know how I feel about them not telling the castaways ahead of time. When they tried to change the rock draw rule in S34, it seemed to scared anyone to force a tie vote. And clearly this could impact how people vote, but it seems like a pretty big twist. This just screams Outcast Tribe disaster and Probst complaining about the new Lill costing whoever his new Savage is.
  17. My feelings on Kelley are like a roller coaster. I hated her, then liked her, then hated her, then liked...honestly I'm not digging her from the couple of pre-show interviews I've seen. I always thought she felt a tad too highly of herself and her game play. The newbies are putting me to sleep. No surprise, because when I think of FvsF (1 & 2), RI, and SP, they definitely stacked the deck against the newbies. I can barely remember the cast of RI and SP, and Caramoan was a shit show. Micronesia had some promise with the favorites-great characters, and if they could have worked together and gotten along they might have been able to turn the tide. Still, it was clear that they were a bunch of wide eyed newbies who didn't know what they were doing. Last season was so great in every way, that I don't understand why the heck they went this route for this season. And IOE is clearly there to help the favorites get back into the game (because god forbid the favorites are voted out early and have to stay out).
  18. You didn't miss much ;) Oddly I don't see the new cast posted anywhere on CBS, which is why I posted the EW link in the first place. Oh, I didn't realize it was an hour. I'm wondering how exactly the twist is going to play out, and how that will affect editing. If they do a tribe swap into 3 tribes, as the norm anymore, plus the outcast island footage (because that's pretty much what this is is the Outcast Tribe 2.0), that's going to be a lot in hour long episodes. ETA: Here's a clip of Jeff talking about the twist/theme this season.
  19. https://ew.com/tv/survivor-edge-of-extinction-cast-gallery/ Just released today! ETA: and they found an occupation for Joe-multimedia artist.
  20. DvsG didn't seem like the same cookie cutter cast we got every season. Even the stereotypical "types" didn't neccessairly live up to those stereotypes. I can't say I agree with decisions Probst makes, or the fact that he can't take constructive criticism, but if this means stronger casts that aren't the same dime a dozen people we've been seeing for years, than I'm all for it. I think it was speculation that S37 and S38 bombed and that's why Lynn was booted. I'm still skeptical S38 will be any good, but S37 did surprise me. And I still think Ghost Island would have been better if the twist was used more and that idols were also hidden out there vs at camp. The cast wasn't terrible, and it sounded like a lot of good stuff happened behind the scenes. So I blame that on editing.
  21. That was always my thought (and hey, Sean might have been the first one to think of jury management by voting that way). I don't think it's any coincidence that he stopped his ABC voting strategy after Jenna was voted off, since Kelly would have came next. I know he put on this front about not believing Jenna was in any real danger, so that's why he felt comfortable voting for her. He could pretend to be the nice guy who was playing fair for jury votes to Pagong, yet still remain loyal to his original Tagi tribemates. Which makes me wonder, if Jenna had won that IC the ep she got voted off, what would Sean have done? Kelly was next in line with the ABC voting, and if Sean voted for her that might have given the Pagongs a life line where they could have gone to a tie vote. Or would he have just abandoned the strategy and come up with some stupid reason so he didn't have to turn on Tagi.
  22. That was Joel, and that was one reason he was voted out. If you believe the guy, he said he was aware of the alliance on Tagi because the camera man was giving him intel, so that was why he tried getting Pagong to get their own counter alliance. The rest of Pagong had the mentality of just voting how they wanted for whatever reason. It would have been interesting had Joel made the merge, or if Pagong had gone in with a majority, how that would have played out. I still think the Tagi 4 would have pulled through, just because Pagong seemed too naive. IIRC Probst said they were worried when Hatch originally won that he wouldn’t be well received by viewers and end up having the show cancelled.
  23. I can see Joe getting voted out early not so much because he'd be a challenge beast down the road, but I think some people would want to pull a Stephen Fishbach and have bragging rights at getting the golden boy out. I haven't heard those rumors, but it's surprising he wouldn't win either return challenge. I fully believe this IOE idea was set up solely to benefit the returning players anyway in case they were voted out early (I would find it hilarious if all 4 were voted out pre-merge but the spoilers don't indicate that). I'm sure they figured it would especially benefit Joe. There was a screenshot from Sierra's IG when Joe first came home and many focused on the fact that it looked like he hadn't lost any weight. Of course Fiji hasn't exactly proven to be a tough environment compared to some of the locations Survivor has filmed at, and Joe was sitting at an angle. I've learned unless people look like Kelley and Kimmi did when they returned from Cambodia it's hard to tell with pictures and weight loss.
  24. I think a lot of it may have just been the times. When you look at older seasons of Survivor (or really any reality show) there's a lot of things I tend to do a double take on because I know they wouldn't fly today. I remember a few contestants who spoke out after they were voted off about the Sue/Rich incident and they said they didn't think much about it, and thought Sue was being overdramatic when she blew up at Jeff (it might have been Jenna Lewis who said she didn't realize she was really that upset at first and thought she was being a drama queen). If they do an all winners season, I'd be shocked if they didn't ask him. Of course TPTB may not think much of him trying to say there was cheating going on and that they promised to pay the taxes on his winnings, so who knows. They'd probably be likely to not ask him back for that reason over anything else.
  25. I'm going for boring disaster. And I get staying on IOE is basically Redemption Island 2.0...but really, that's a long time to be sitting around doing nothing except the whole survival aspect of the game. It's the game except no TC and no challenges. And I am wondering how many people end up quitting before they are allowed to re-enter the game. I also expect whoever does re-enter the game will probably bring obnoxious to a whole new level, especially if it was someone who arrogantly thought they were in control and the got blindsided (but still fancy themselves a master of the game). I wish they had done it this way, but it doesn't sound like they did. I think part of the point was for the contestants to try and get one another to quit (which makes me wonder if they thought this could go the way of World’s Apart and have things get out of control with bullying). However, if rumors are correct, it didn't work that way, and it sounds like that might have factored into who won the game. I probably shouldn't be rooting so hard for this to blow up in their face, but I am.
