  1. Some very sad news to report. Jannes Eiselen, the actor who played the original (and best) Dufresne in season 1, passed away yesterday, two days after his 36th birthday. He had been battling a rare form of cancer for three years that had forced him to leave the show. RIP Jannes, may your memory be a blessing to all who loved and knew you.
  2. I found a screencap supposedly from episode 9 posted on fan's FB page:
  3. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in an earlier post or another thread, but the actress who plays Mrs. Hudson is Anna-Louise Plowman, who's Toby Stephen's wife IRL.
  4. Here's a great interview with Luke Arnold about the evolution of John Silver's character: https://www.inverse.com/article/11016-luke-arnold-the-pirate-genius-of-black-sails-goes-long-on-john-silver Now I can't wait for episode 7! BTW, if anyone can think of a better title for this thread, please change it.
  5. This per tvline's Michael Ausiello: http://tvline.com/2015/11/10/the-walking-dead-jeffrey-dean-morgan-cast-negan-season-6/ Good choice of casting. I wonder if this is development is going to be used resolve the issue of Glen's fate.
  6. Not only is Silver totally menacing and scary in that final scene, but if you stop/slow the action down at 1:54, it appears that Silver's bashing Dufresne's head in with his peg leg. I'm also looking forward to seeing if the Vane/Flint alliance holds up, and what role Blackbeard will play.
  7. And Tom Hopper is fucking hot. That is all.
  8. Funny you mentioned James Purefoy-he already played Blackbeard in a television documentary some years back!
  9. Blackbeard will be making an appearance in season 3- he will be played by Ray Stevenson, who also played Titus Pullo in HBO's short-lived miniseries Rome. Great actor, 6'4" tall, dark, and (at least i think) handsome!
  10. Louise Barnes (Miranda Barlow) is married to Nick Boraine (Lord Ashe) IRL. They're both South African. We can only hope.
  11. Miranda Barlow, RIP. Buh-bye, Eleanor. As usual, it's the female characters on a TV show that end up being the most expendable. I just knew that things would turn out badly for Flint. I believed from the get-go that Lord Ashe intended to see Flint hang and never intended to honor his word. Lord Ashe, and the British government by extension, want to annihilate piracy at any cost. They would never trust a man as high up in the pirate hierarchy as Flint. I can't cheer over Anne helping to protect Jack against Eleanor's men, and getting back together with him. I'm still disgusted by what she did to Charlotte. Interesting to see that Vane is finally pulling his head out of his butt and seeing the big picture. He was actually the smarter pirate this time. His going to rescue Flint makes sense, but what's really going to be fun is what happens afterwords- will he and Flint forge a temporary alliance of convenience? Or will Flint, with the help of John and Billy, escape? Will John somehow be forced to admit that he knows the gold is still on the island to Flint? So many possibilities there. I've always been neutral on Eleanor- she did some bad things, but she wasn't as horrible as some of the other characters on the show. Ruthless when she needed to be, but also frequently incompetent. Her story line made no sense to me. Yes, she directed all the commerce on the island, but she's not actually the one out raiding and killing. I can't believe that Captain Hume would think she was worth 9 pardons..she's not nearly as valuable to the Crown as someone like Vane, Flint, or Rackham. If Eleanor isn't operating in Nassau then someone would step in and fill the void, or the pirates would simply start taking their booty elsewhere. It's known as The Law of Supply and Demand. Seeing Dufresne's smirky face after he turned over Eleanor made me want to take a baseball bat to his ugly, oversized chin. Then whack him again in the nuts. Unfortunately, I've heard that Roland Reed is confirmed for season 3 so he'll be back.
  12. I think this meme is funny: http://imgur.com/0whsVht
  13. John Silver is a weasel, but he has brass balls. I don't think he was right in trusting Max, though. Her ego exceeds her intelligence and she could very well end up leaking the information to the wrong people. This episode really highlighted how almost everyone (except maybe Miranda Barlow) is out for him/herself. Even though Billy's decided that his interests are best served by siding with Flint, his speech to the crew was incredibly ironic- he said he wanted to spare his "brothers" from torture at the hands of the Royal Navy, but did he really believe that Flint (or most of his fellow crew members for that matter) wouldn't torture him if they felt it was necessary? Still not caring much about Anne Bonny. As for Dufresne, he's become totally irritating and useless. He should have been killed by Billy when he agreed to recruit the eight men to mutiny against Flint.
  14. I suspected Hamilton was gay but not gay with Flint. I was just over at another Black Sails forum and the hypocrisy of some of the posters was pretty blatant. Of course, they don't mind Eleanor, Anne, or Max being bisexual, but Flint having sex with both men and women got their tighty whities all twisted into a wad. They were saying how the show was now ruined for them and they would never watch Black Sails again. Like Starz gives a f*&k. My sympathy for Miranda has increased exponentially. It's clear that she loved her husband despite his sexual orientation and wanted him to be happy. She also feels the same way about Flint- plus their shared love of Thomas is part of what's keeping them together. She really is a victim of circumstance like many of the others on New Providence and is trying to make the best of a terrible situation. FWIW-the actor who plays Lord Ashe is Louise Barnes' husband IRL. Still not caring much about Jack, Anne, or Max. Maybe that will change as the series continues.
