  1. And I’ll add that what this tells me is that said focus groups are frumpy women of a certain age who feel young and beautiful compared to those four ...
  2. Well, I’m excited to see that Cliff Crooks is hosting a new show, Chefs Boot Camp, on Food Network. Looking forward to adding this to my summer-light watch list!
  3. My unpopular opinion: I wouldn’t care (or even mind) if they put Mer back into her coma for good. I find her boring and unappealing. That said, I wonder if the fact that her waking comments were both responses to Richard and Jo’s comments of the last few ... minutes? Hours? Days? ... and not about her kids could be teasing some sort of larger memory loss of her life outside the hospital when she DOES come to ... Zola who? Ellis who? Bailey who?
  4. I. Can’t. Wait. For starters, I absolutely LOVED his book. Plus, no pun intended (and I hope I’m using term correctly) I have stanned LaKeith Stanfield ever since I saw Short Term 12 when it was first released.
  5. My probably unpopular opinion (so please don’t throw rocks at me) is that I think he was somewhat unfairly made the primary — read: only — fall guy for Marcelgate.
  6. Re: why Mer and Derek have not actually touched/hugged on the beach (yet), I have a completely unfounded theory which may have been slightly confirmed by LAST week's ep ... I think that if you saw them touch, it would mean that she had crossed over. Unless I missed it, she never touched DeLuca either, right? (Though that would not have necessarily proved/disproven my theory, since they were both alive at that point as far as we know). But when he ran down the beach and threw himself into his mother's arms, I knew he was dead and probably when he died. I think if we get a scene where she and Derek actually kiss, it will be the sign that she's passed away. And I'm not totally ruling that out because I haven't been reading spoilers (do we know for sure the show's been confirmed for another season or two, or that she'll be back? They're pretty good at keeping things mum but the spoiler folks here are just as good if not better at digging the info up). Also dreading an all-Teddy-all-the-time ep next week ... previews in guide say she suffers a devastating loss or something ... am thinking maybe Koracik dies? Would that be devastating to her or just to me because at this point he's one of the only remaining regular characters I actually like (along with the Chief and Bailey and Zola ... okay, and Maggie and Amelia).
  7. Since I saw this bumped, I just happen to be sitting on my porch for the first time this year with a reread of one of my very very favorite series that I somehow forgot to mention ... the five-book series by Megan McCafferty that starts with “Sloppy Firsts” ... and my daughter is doing the reread simultaneously (also her favorite series). I’m gobsmacked that this series has not been made into a YA/teen series.
  8. THANK YOU!!! This was driving me crazy. I knew he was familiar but couldn't place it.
  9. HELL yes. Looking back at my vacation pix from around 1998 or so (a general guess without going to figure out exact dates but my daughter is wearing a Spice GIrls T-shirt) ... my SIL lived there part of the year (exchange professor at UBelize) and was building a home in Caye Caulker so had become part of the community. We went out deep sea fishing with a friend of hers, a guide named Jimmy who looks like he could be Ryan and Harris' MUCH handsomer cousin.
  10. Discovery+ is as confusing to me as HBO Max. I think it takes a very "special' kind of person to look at the array of options on Discovery+ and fall in love. It turns out I am that very "special" kind of person. And while Mr. Snappy was ready to make fun of me today when we decided to look at everything it offered, it turned out that he, too, is a very "special" kind of person, albeit somewhat closeted (SO many good food and travel channels!)
  11. I’d pay big Pay-Per-View-type money to watch that.
  12. This cracked me up ... I worked briefly (well, about a year) for a court reporter as a transcriptionist and I also laughed at that moment ... the second-funniest depiction I've seen (though perhaps not intentional in this case), after the John Oliver show that had ... OMG 8 YEARS AGO HOW DID THE TIME PASS? ... this amazingly awesome clip. If you don't feel like sitting through all of it, the moment I reference is at, I think (short-term memory retention issues) at 3:46. But hey, do yourself a favorite and watch all of it!
  13. BUT THAT BEARD needed a few nets of its own! Sorry ... Mr. Snappy and I JUST (literally, an hour ago) finished our quarantine-inspired watch of every TC episode from S1 through the end of S17 (one a day) -- we started last June, just after the airing of the finale, to accompany living room lunch hour -- and I really enjoyed this season the most of any of them. And while I never liked Kevin to start with, this time around I absolutely detested him. Along with his being unbearably smug and self-entitled, he was so humorless. And while I don't think I'd noticed it as much the first (two) time(s) around, his facial resemblance to his precious pork is remarkable. I was thrilled (again) by the F3, and by Melissa's win ... if Gregory couldn't win (my all-time favorite cheftestant), then I was glad it was Melissa. And in retrospect, it would have really sucked if having LeeAnne as a sous had been her undoing, since obviously had he been healthy Gregory would have been her sous since he's her best friend and roommate. I cannot wait for S18 to air (ditto Amateurs) ... talk about a lineup of my favorite chefs (and not a Kevin to be found). Also, while obviously this is very much up in the air, we were supposed to go to Basque Country last summer for a foodie vacation and obviously that was 86'd, and now we're trying to reschedule (even if it has to be canceled/re-rescheduled) with our airline and hotel credits, but watching this season has made us think very hard about expanding from two to three weeks and adding in Italy ... Mr. Snappy will be officially retired after this spring, and we had to put off selling our house and moving across the country for another year, so why not live it up while/if we can? Want to go to those cheese caves, please.
  14. I'd say the one thing that bothered me about this episode was having Rosewater appear as such an evil ghost, when the original character was so sweet. I understand Owen being haunted by him, but think there could have been a way to portray that without his seeming like a demon.
  15. OMG SO MUCH THIS! I admit that watching those scenes last night, I flashed back -- for the first time, pretty much, in a few decades -- to the lone home pregnancy test I took LOL ... Mr. Snappy and I had decided to "start trying" in January 1990, assuming it would probably take a few months at least ... I remember taking the home test in late January, shaking the little bottle and setting it on the sink, and coming back in an hour to find it had turned purple and running shrieking through the house in joy and disbelief. A truly wonderful and joyous time. I probably say this every cycle but this season's couples are the absolute WORST (which translates to absolute BEST in terms of sh*t-show must-see TV!) and it's hard to decide who are THE worst (I won't count Ron and Betty who are truly frightening -- though all the stories coming out about them now has me singing "Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals" all day ... if you haven't heard that gem by Gilda Radner, DO Google it ... I used to sing it as an audition song in college because if nothing else it caught people's attention and captured my weird personality). My theory about that absolutely rivetingly astonishingly WEIRD scene with Natalie sniffing and kissing the tree and then skipping down the trail is that she watched too many cheap bad American movies while in Ukraine and somehow came away with the idea that this was how couples displayed being cute and crazy kids. Finally .. and apologies if this is OT but I wanted to respond to brief exchange earlier ... THANK YOU to those who suggested FireStick. Mine arrives on Thursday and the entire Discovery+ world will be mine all mine! I may never get off the bed again except to refill my wine glass! ETA: Oh, as much as I absolute CANNOT STAND Stephanie I CAN sympathize with her complaints about the sandflies. I went to Belize about 25 years ago with my family to visit SIL who was living there/working there part of the year ... while it was quite lovely in many ways (the place we stayed was nowhere near this nice) there was a hole in the screen in our window and the sandfly attacks were so bad in the middle of the night that I was literally sobbing. HUNDREDS of bites and I still have scars to this day.
  16. I love you guys!!! I am the most technologically inept person ever ... now I know what to ask Mr. Snappy for for Valentine's Day!!! And he can teach me how to use it. If not, he's gonna have to give up the comfy living room chair (where the big TV is) 3 nights a week for me and I KNOW he won't want to do that.
  17. I'm with you there ... unfortunately, my TV doesn't accept Discovery + (an older Samsung) and Mr. Snappy won't buy me a new TV to watch all my favorite shows LOL ... so I'm going to try to get it installed on my laptop, even though this is not my ideal place to watch "my shows" (as opposed to sprawled out on the bed with popcorn).
  18. Brandon’s parents are absolutely the worst people ever on this show (well, his dad is ... I think mom has serious battered wife symptoms -- ETA emotional/mental, not physical). And that’s saying a lot. I actually want to watch the Toddlers and Tiaras update. Don’t judge! T/T (along with Showbiz Moms and Dads) was my TWOP gateway drug. But the fact that they forced an hour of unbearable Long Island Medium down my throat in what was ostensibly 90DF (no matter how heinous this season’s people are) pissed me off. Glad I recorded it so I could FF.
  19. SO SO SO SO MUCH THIS!!!! I'm really hoping that now that S2 is underway, they'll do a version of the "XYZ Begins" stories they did with Original Recipe 9-1-1 and I'm really looking forward to a Paul-centric episode. He may be my favorite TV character right now (with Hen a close second). So, hoping someone can help me out (serious medical memory issues, apologies in advance) ... was Tim (the paramedic they killed off) the guy who was generally seen chatting with ... I guess it was Michelle? ... in the previous season? He'd usually be wearing a blue jumpsuit? I knew he was familiar but couldn't quite pin where we'd seen him and I thought the character's name was Jim. Finally ... and I know this is a totally wacko theory ... but I wonder if they haven't gone completely "out there" with these S2 outlandish disaster scenarios to hopefully ensure they don't actually come too close to "real life" for comfort ... imagine, a season or two ago, if they'd had some crazy virus unleashed and killing off everyone, we'd be pooh-poohing it and accusing the writers of ripping of Stephen King.
  20. Thank you!!!!!! I admit it had been a long day when I watched 9-1-1/9-1-1 LS back to back but I KNEW I recognized angsty mini golf dad and could not for the life of me place him ... and this after binge-rewatching all of ER through the almost-end of S14 (I’m not ready yet to watch Pratt die ... plan to finish it out this week).
  21. I also wondered about that poor utility worker. I think he must have been a casualty given the deluge that swept him away. Thanks, show, for one more natural disaster to worry about ... I didn’t have enough!
  22. I just love Paul. I want more Paul. I need more Paul. That is all.
  23. No, because the minute he appeared onscreen my husband commented on it (he didn't remember the actor's name but recognized him from Capote).
  24. I have way too much jumbling around in my mind about all of this, after JUST having watched most recent ep this afternoon (having to time it so Mr. Snappy and I can watch "our shows" together) ... I don't think I watched the 1994 miniseries which would be, on the surface, really odd since "The Stand" is one of my all-time Top 5 favorite books ... but it was also a period where my job/career had me traveling SO much and we didn't have the same kind of ability to tape/whatever to watch later ... So all I can relate to is what I remember from my multiple rereads (including ONLY one of the unexpurgated version), and my memory is extremely corrupted by medical issues that, sadly, seemed to only affect my one "superpower," which was once a remarkable somewhat photographic and seriously detailed memory. Now it's as if someone took all the carefully details index cards in the immense file cabinet of my memory and threw them all over the floor (kind of like the guy in "Memento" ... somewhat the same condition, just less extreme than his). But I digress ... So, we're through Episode 5. I'm trying to approach it as a huge Stephen King fan and an even huger fan of the book "The Stand" but at the same time taking it on its own merits, and assuming that whatever changes "they" made (whoever "they" are) were for reasons unknown to us. With that in mind, just a few random thoughts (please bear with me, or don't LOL!!!!) Having read the book multiple times and this being the first time I've seen it reimagined on screen, I'm only now realizing how "clearly" I had certain characters "visualized" ... and I can't argue with the choices made in actors but it's interesting to see who I was sort of closer on ... Without wanting to sound cold, I imagined Frannie much more attractive. Not va-va-voom, but in a more "crunchy-granola" way but ... I think she's really NOT attractive which suspends some of my belief that these guys would be falling in love with her so quickly. Other than her possibly being the last woman of child-bearing age that they know. Creepy Harold is every bit as creepy though he could not be further from the way I remember picturing him in the book (kind of fat and blobby and dark versus skinny and greasy). I imagined Larry as a white guy who was a "blue-eyed soul" musician and frankly that always rang a little wrong with me, so I feel like this version is what it probably should have been all along ... And YES, the worst is why-oh-why is Nadine blonde???? The black-hair-turned-white is one of the great things in the book, so this makes ZERO sense unless they're going to unleash on us some equivalent morphing ... I don't mind/actually kinda like the gender shifts for a few "lesser" characters if for no other reason than I realize, especially reading some reviews of the show/book, how very very very white-male driven the book was to start with. I think Alexander Skaarsgard was a great choice for Flagg. He has the right combo of compelling magneticism with an "everyman" aura. I'm good with Nick ... I always imagined Tom Cullen as a big Iowa cornfed football-player type boy but really love the actor in this role. I think James Marsden absolutely has the Stu subtle sexiness. LOVE LOVE LOVE Greg Kinnear in his role -- I had not realized what a sexy guy he was LOL. I'm undecided on Whoopi. I really like her a lot as an actress/person but also think this is not an easy role to nail ... so it's not 100% for me but that may be because I don't really know what 100% would be! So this whole post may have been a big waste of time for anyone who's actually gotten through it but it made me feel good to get it out of my system while I await the next/last nine episodes. And yeah, I'm DEFINITELY going to reread the book AGAIN once this is over. ETA: PS ... I could write a whole other personal post re: "Don't Fear The Reaper" despite my not having seen the 1994 version of the series, based solely on my/our own personal experience with music supervision but don't want to bore people to death ... so if there's anyone who's found themselves really enjoying or at least noticing how the music choices have gone so far, let me know and I'll elaborate!!!!
  25. I think Natalie has pretty hair and ... that’s all I got. Her makeup is awful (brown cheeks?) ... wish we could hook her and Tiffany up on an online makeup tutorial. Maybe Yara (do I have correct Ukrainian who’s the wanna-be makeup artist?) can teach it.
