It was a segment where they were talking about post show success and was trying to make the point that just because you win, it doesn't guarantee you success and that you don't have to win to be successful. The way it was edited did Kris no favors. They did not even include him in the interviews.

Meh. I could have done without rehashing the Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj. And what was up with the shade edit that Kris got.

Season 15: Farewell Season Spoilers Discussion
perfectstorm replied to yourpointis's topic in American Idol
J-Lo has said many times that she knew Phillip Phillips was going to win from his audition. He sang 2 songs and he also got to play the guitar - which was not allowed at that point. Jessica was a Saved contestant. TPTB actually wanted Josh to be in the finals with Phillip. During the Idol tour, he got the pimp spot of opening before Phillip. Of the top 5 EP sales, Josh ranked #2. Jessica #4. She didn't sell out in her hometown on the tour. Both Phillip ad Josh did. Jessica was signed, but there was little interest from Interscope. Her CD wasn't even released until a year later. Whereas Iovine promoted Phillip's CD, to the point of appearing on the cover of Billboard together. -

There wasn't a contest, but Home was written at the end of 2011 by Greg Holden and Drew Pearson, with the intent of submitting it to American Idol to use as a coronation song for the winner. It was brought to Jimmy Iovine, who thought it would be the perfect song for Phillip. Holden, who is singer, never planned to record it himself. But as a song writer, he ended up making tons money from sales and licensing. -

No, 19E did not come up with Home. It was Jimmy Iovine of Interscope, who had guided Phillip's career. 19 has a horrible reputation in the industry of mismanagement. The problem with Josh - his sound was too outdated and Jessica had to clue to who she was as an artist. She did herself no favors by dressing up in flowing evening gowns. No surprise both struggled after the show. Their mainstream marketability was always limited and TPTB knew that. It's ultimately the marketplace that determines the real winner, i.e. Phillip, Kelly, Fantasia, Carrie, Jordin, David Cook, Scotty. -

Phillip Phillips will be performing at the finale. Nick Fradiani spilled the tea at the I Heart Music Awards, that he, Phillip, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, David Cook will be doing a tribute to David Bowie. For the last 3 years of the Forbes most successful Idols list, he has ranked as the top earning male winner. He just announced a big 40+ city summer tour. -
Huh? The show has been sinking in ratings for the several years. In fact, the last time they had a profitable tour was Season 11. It was also the last time they produced a successful winner. In the summer of 2014, Fox actually blamed the downward spiral with Idol in the last 2 winners (Candice and Caleb) not being successful. 19 has always had a horrible reputation in the industry for mismanagement and bilking of their clients. It's no coincidence that all the Idol alums have broken free from them and sign with other management.

Boring, boring, when the same team continues to dominate. I hope there is a Justin-Diana shock lost at the end. Scott was a class act!
-
Interscope produced 2 of the biggest winners with Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips. They also gave Idol its biggest song with Home. With Candice and Caleb, the problem was their limited marketability. BMLG has yet to produce any successes. I think Nick Fradiani's newest single is a one way ticket to him being dropped.
-
Scott Borchetta's picks clearly showed he has no clue what so ever with his artists. Trent is a not Country singer. He was obviously playing mind games with his pick for La'Porsha. Props to her for giving an intelligent response. The Final 2 should be La'Porsha and Trent.

Why is Mischa Barton on this show??? She just looks so miserable. I feel sorry for her partner, Artem. I would have rather seen her go than Geraldo Rivera. At least he tried to have fun with it.

I think Dalton's fans do him no favors by focusing too much on his looks, what he is wearing, etc. Something tells me the screaming teen fans would feel differently if he looks like Caleb Johnson. I also think Dalton invalidates himself - by focusing too much on the façade (the guy liner, his outfit). He had said the boy band thing was really more him and that MacKenzie was more the artist, musician. I'm just not clear who he is as an artist - and I'm sure if he knows himself. Whether it's Cook, Kris, Lee, Scotty, Phil, they knew who they were and the music always came first with these guys.
-
If Dalton has the largest Twitter following, it means he won't win. If you look at the last few seasons, neither Nick, Caleb, Candice, had the largest Twitter followers. It was Jax, Sam, Angie, none of whom made it into the finals. It can't just be assumed that the followers Dalton had prior to Idol all are still all active fans who watches show and voting for them. The ratings have been pretty much on par with last season, so it's not like a lot of new viewers are tuning in. Twitter is known for Spam accounts, inactive accounts. Also, fans outside the U.S. are not allowed to vote. There's one obvious theory as to why Dalton was in the Bottom 2 - his performance has been lacking.
-
They bussed Mackenzie because he deserved it. At this point, in the competition, mediocrity isn't going to cut it. How do you know Dalton has the largest fan base? Twitter Followers? It's well known that social media followers have never been an accurate measure of Idol voting patterns. And then there's the impact of limited voting, which is even more limited this year. It's not like back in the day when fans can spam votes for their favorites.
-
But when he got to Dalton and Sonkia, he specifically said these are your Bottom 2. In fact, he said it twice. In the past, he would not make the reference "Bottom 2" if it didn't apply to both. Also, at Top 5, they usually do reveal the 2 lowest vote getters.
-
So, this was suppose to be a girls season. And leave it to the voters to take out 5 girls in the Top 10 and only 1 guy so far. I hope either MacKenzie or Dalton goes next week. Both are over rated. I don't get why Scott Borchetta is pimping MacKenzie. But then he also pimped Nick Fradiani last season. The Final 2 should be La'Porsha and Trent.
-
La'Porsha actually has been getting a lot of media coverage - not just within the Idol bubble. It's been to her advantage that she has been riding her own lane (music genre). I think the fan base for Dalton can be skewed. The unknown is that how many of his fans from IM days are still engaged and active for Idol. It's not like the ratings have really changed that much from last season.
-
Why does the show always feel a need to cast a fodder like Geraldo Rivera, who has no chance of winning. I prefer Julianne Hough to Len Goodman, who is so out of touch. For me, the athletes are always the most fun watching.
-
The stories of MacKenzie, La'Porsha weren't exactly deep dark secrets. They had been mentioned at some point this season. And when Dalton left his boy band, he told fans it was because of his bi-polar. I get what people are now saying about Dalton. I loved his audition. But he has been losing steam and now I'm sure who he is as an artist - and I don't think he knows either. "Dalton nizing" a song is really not a career path.
-
Scott Borchetta signed on to Idol with the intent of launching a pop star (he is struggling with Nick Fradiani as is). He has enough Country artists on his label. He defaulted to Tristan because he was worry about La'Porsha winning. Once the show is off the air, the Idol brand goes with it, and there's really no incentive for him to invest in alums from the show. He has other less costly, lower risk options for scouting talent, like Social Media.
-
If he didn't sign Jax, he's not going to sign Emily or Tristan. On BMGL, he already has The Voice alums, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbury, Raelynn.
-
Probably not. The tour has been losing money the last few seasons. It was always intended to promote the show, but now the show will be ending.
-
OK, so going by the above, how is your argument of comparing Pope and Bradbury to Candice and Caleb fair? Neither had big singles to support their albums. They are on different labels, different management. And it's well known that neither were really marketed. Also, there's really no direct correlation between viewership and post show sales.
-
Hardly. In the on-line blogging of show, fans were ripping him apart; saying he actually gave the worse performance of the night. I do not know what Borchetta was thinking with this single. The song sounds nothing like Fradiani.
-
Yet, with all the promotion, Cassadee Pope's CD only sold 181K, Danielle Bradbury 136K. They would be consider flops if they were on Idol, especially for major label artists. Even Lee Dewyze's CD sold more than Bradbury. Kris Allen sold much better than Pope. Another example of Scott Borchetta over promising, under producing.
