  1. I couldn't help but wonder if Trevor (or, more likely, one of his writers) is a listener to Dan Savage's podcast. That was something that used to come up on his show a lot -- he tried to get people to start using "scrotum" as an insult instead of "pussy." I was kind of hoping we'd get one last McConnell "turtle" impression from Jon, but I guess this was too serious an issue for that. In any case, it was so great to see him back on the show.
  2. Based on the Republicans I know/am related to, the support falls roughly into 2 camps: (1) moderates/old school GOP'ers for Rubio or Kasich (2) rabid Fox News viewers/tea partiers for Trump or Cruz. So I agree -- nobody likes Jeb! I'm really curious who the guest is going to be on Monday's show because it's still TBA. Frequently in the Jon Stewart era, that would be an indicator of a really big guest like Barack Obama or Bill Clinton. I will be a little disappointed now if it ultimately turns out to be just an actor plugging a movie.
  3. "Cruz Your Own Adventure" is funny, but it is very similar to something TDS did with Mitch McConnell footage a couple years ago under the hashtag #McConnelling. I feel sorry for whichever TDS staffer had to sit through several hours of Cruz hugging his relatives, shooting guns, etc. to find the gems they used on the show.
  4. Next week: 12/7: TBD 12/8: Secretary Thomas Perez (Secretary of Labor) 12/9: Marion Cotillard (actress – promoting movie “Macbeth”) 12/10: Michael Strahan (co-host of “Kelly & Michael” & author – promoting book “Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide to Transforming Your Life”)
  5. Me too!!!! (I grew up in a 99%-white, middle-class neighborhood, and Kool-Aid was very common.) I seriously had no idea that drinking Kool-Aid was a racial stereotype. At this point most of the time when I hear about Kool-Aid, it's in the other context Larry mentioned ("drinking the Kool-Aid"). Live and learn. I found this 2012 article exploring the subject by an African-American blogger, so it definitely seems to be a thing. However, Brian Kilmeade -- the guy who asked about the Kool-Aid (it wasn't Steve Doocy; Stephen Colbert used to refer to Kilmeade as "the brown haired guy who's not Steve Doocy") -- has a reputation as being a very dumb guy. Check out the "Fox & Friends" skits they do on "SNL" -- Bobby Moynihan portrays Kilmeade as a drooling idiot.
  6. I got the email announcing the change at 3:30 PM Eastern time, and I believe the show tapes around 6 PM, so I don't think that's the case.
  7. Wow, apparently the staff was "split" on the booking of Brown, according to this Daily Beast article. Whatever went down, good riddance, say I.
  8. No Chris Brown? Yay. 12/1: Nick Cannon (actor - promoting movie "Chi-Raq")

  10. Anthony Jeselnik says he "hated every second" of hosting LCS and that he'd only come back if they "tripled my money." (Splitsider.com - the part about LCS is about 10 minutes in)
  11. Mo 11/30: Brent Morin, Rick Glassman, Michelle Beadle Tu 12/1: Rob Huebel, Michaela Watkins, Mary Elizabeth Ellis We 12/2: Tone Bell, Tiffany Haddish, Colton Dunn Th 12/3: Marc Maron, Emily Heller, Matt Goldich Mo 12/7: Tom Rhodes, Brian Posehn, Rick Overton
  12. I think the pennies that are "not circulating" are ones that are being stored in penny jars for years on end, thrown away (yes, a lot of people actually do that), etc. If you stopped making new ones, presumably shopkeepers would go into banks wanting to get rolls of pennies to give in change and be frustrated when those were not available. Then they'd have to institute a "no penny" policy and round up or down. Hmm... maybe creating a penny shortage wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
  13. "She had passed the matter to the State Department"?!?!?!?! Wow, talk about not being able to take a joke.
  14. "Quit Digging Your Grave With a Knife and Fork." For some reason, that title has stuck in my mind all these years, though I would imagine the Huckster doesn't care to remind people of that book. Eating healthfully is now too strongly associated with Michelle Obama. His latest masterwork was titled "God, Guns Grits & Gravy."
  15. Well, here's happy news for everyone who was anti-Justin Bieber; he's mysteriously disappeared from tonight's lineup: Tuesday, Nov. 24 Spike Lee; Andy Cohen; interview with and musical performance by Carly Simon
  16. The Ebola story was incredible. This is one special that really benefited from "limited commercial interruptions" -- otherwise Trevor's long anecdotes would have seemed really chopped-up. I knew he was good at doing accents, but his work in this special just blew me away. The Southern accents in the part where he was talking about getting directions were amazing!
  17. More repeats: Monday, Nov. 30 Comedian Aziz Ansari; Shonda Rhimes; Actors Bruce Campbell & Lucy Lawless; Actor Liam Neeson (OAD: 11/10/15) Tuesday, Dec. 1 Oprah Winfrey; Creators of “Welcome to Night Vale” Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor; musical performance by Judith Hill (OAD: 10/15/15) Wednesday, Dec. 2 Bill Maher; Artist Shepard Fairey; Col. Jack Jacobs; performance by The Acro-Cats (OAD: 11/16/15) Thursday, Dec. 3 Actress Julianne Moore; Burt Reynolds; musical performance by Public Image Ltd.; CeeLo Green sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human (OAD: 11/17/15) Friday, Dec. 4 Actress Jennifer Connelly; Judd Apatow; Host of CBS News’s “Face The Nation” John Dickerson; musical performance by The Internet (OAD: 11/12/15)
  18. I looked around Twitter last night and discovered that "Janice" is actually LWT writer Jill Twiss. The penny piece disappointed me too, but only because there was no call to action. I've actually been anti-penny for YEARS -- a college boyfriend used to throw them away, something I thought was nuts (personally, I save mine and use them in the self-checkout machine at Safeway, provided there's no line and thus nobody to complain that I'm inserting 18 pennies into the register). But JO introduced the piece by saying something along the lines of, "Here's something we can actually do something about," which made me think the writers had come up with a clever way for LWT viewers to lobby Congress to get rid of the penny. No such luck.
  19. I just bought tickets for what has to be one of the best-named comedy shows of all time: Brunches with Funches. Yes, it's an 11 AM show at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco starring Ron Funches. The other comics on the bill are Drennon Davis, Joe DeRosa and Maggie Maye. (For what it's worth, I'm skipping the brunch -- which costs an extra $35 -- and plan to eat at Rico's, the fantastic Mexican place a couple doors down, after the show.)
  20. The Tonight Show had R. Kelly on last night. It is very disappointing that these unsavory people are given such huge promotional opportunities.
  21. 11/30: Spike Lee (writer & director – promoting movie “Chi-Raq”) 12/1: Chris Brown (musician – promoting album “Royalty”) 12/2: Lupita Nyong’o (actress – promoting movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) 12/3: Idris Elba (actor – promoting BBC series “Luther”)
  22. I'll bet it was a mutual decision. Joel seems like he's been phoning it in for the last year or two, and he's continuing to get good roles (he has a prominent part in the new X-Files).
  23. I really liked Tuesday's show with Heather Anne Campbell, Derek Waters and Noel Wells. I watched both Monday's and Tuesday's shows back to back and Tuesday's was downright sweet after Monday's raunch-fest. Tonight is FUNCHES, so I wouldn't miss it for the world.
  24. Sad, but it's probably time: E! to End Joel McHale's Long-Running Clip Show 'The Soup' McHale's final show, which will also mark the series' last, will air Dec. 18. In the weeks leading up to it, the host is expected to reflect on the franchise's most memorable moments.
